    It wasn't until the late 90's that this riff was conquered....as so many tab books had it written incorrectly, with UA-cam the community put it's ideas on how it was played together and eventually it was cracked - absolutely great tutorial :)

      @@IndianNuclear1 you just jacked my swag comment about the bass line in that song. The vocals are what most ppl focus in on, the guitar riff is iconic and so are the drums in the intro. Everyone knows it whether theyre a musician or not, but I invite anyone to isolate the bass track to learn the extra special ingredient that makes the whole song move

    very interesting lesson. I liked your suggestion about slopping in other notes on the 10th fret, as well as the open string for double tracking. Those are great and I can never be reminded too much about them as useful tools for the toolbox
    I think you're missing one thing. What i am hearing are the first three notes (the low C) are not swung, but played straight. At least with the guitar panned left (the one panned right has a lot of variations).
    This gives it that Chuck berry feel over and over and over again, which I find very very cool

    Sped, mate, I've got a special secret way of playing this one, for when you're the only guitarist in the band and you've got to fill the room: tune your A string down to G. Now you can bar the C chord at the fifth fret and reach all the tasty notes to make it swing. Also gives you access to the high notes for those signature 'deet deedee' moments. Sure, now you've got to move the main riff, but it's well worth a try x

    This is great. I’ve always struggled with this riff because of the stretch and my disobedient pinky. Did I think of transposing it to another part of the fretboard? No. No i didn’t. Too busy watering the garden.

    The 1st way the correct one, and I assume the extra bite is coming from Perry doing a Page and rolling off all the bass on his amp.
    Edit: just seen Tim Pearce say that Whitford was playing an LP, and Perry was playing a Strat. Panned left and right.

    Haha, I haven't the slightest intention of trying any of this! Too hard for me, at my stage, and anyway, I like watering pansies! Not really, but adding Perry Peri 🌶 and the Purple Pansies to the future group name list. Love the deadpan throwaway lines 🤣. God knows what your US audience makes of them 🤣🤣 Rock on!🙌😮

      Build your way up to it and come back whenever you feel ready! And in response to the throw away lines, haha yeah, me and Gab sometimes watch my videos back before posting to check them and I often say "people must think I'm either Schizophrenic or Mad. Probably both. 😂 I'm not, they are jokes.

    I used to be able to play the intro riff really well. This was 20-25 years ago. Nowadays, after a wrist injury on my fret hand, carpal and overall neglect of a regular practice routine, I feel like a beginner when I try to play this song. Probably sound like one too. The verse riff always gave me a hard time. Never saw the 3rd variation, I'll have to try that one!

    I’m gonna try the variation 2, the first variation is tiny bit problematic for me when I am playing on stage, standing up. I find myself raising my guitar just for this tune and then lowering back, may be I can avoid that with variation 2.
    Thanks for the lesson! A lesson the “Crazy” solo would be nice if you can do it!

      It would totally depend on the gear that you have and the gear that I have. Historically on this channel I’ve either used a plug-in or my fractal. And usually any time that you can see me using an amp going through my twonotes torpedo studio you’ve probably been able to see the settings, et cetera. I do have a tone video in the works though. Keep your ears peeled.

    The other way is the lazy way - how I imagine Billy Gibbons would’ve written it if he had to sing as well, which is to fret an open C cowboy chord and use all the open strings. So your octave, for example, would be c at the third fret a string, and 1st fret b string. It gives you that bite that you mentioned. The palm muting is essential but a bit trickier, because you’re covering more strings, but I always thought they could done it for one of the double tracks on the original track.

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  Місяць тому

      Yeah that’s also cool! I didn’t use the B string C because it just felt too think with my amp settings. Not to say it isn’t on the track though. Walk This Way Gibbons edition would be cool. 😏
