Mercer made a late start to his career and was a nightmare match up at his peak for any of the top fighters of his time and any era. Probably many guys avoided him.
Yeah, He was especially a Nightmare for Jesse Ferguson hahaha, lost his title chance against Riddick, but hey better for him , not be massacred by big Daddy
Never heard of Cooper . He was a Tough Cookie with a granite Chin . As for Mercer he could face any top Contenders and do really Well . Respect to both
Great fight from 2 tough Boxers .......... Thats why i gotta respect how JESSE FERGUSON was able to beat RAY MERCER in their 1st fight, then have a tough close fight in the rematch. & i respect how CARL (the truth) WILLIAMS was able to outbox & destroy the tough SMOKING BERT COOPER
@@nikolailic431 yep, thats why i know HOLMES wasnt really washed up when both MIKE TYSON and MICHAEL SPINKS beat him, simply because HOLMES lost to them in the 1980's, before he beat MERCER in the 90's
@@entertainingsportshighligh7525 He went into the Tyson fight with no tuneup's though at 38 years old at a almost two year layoff. It showed too, he had no legs to get away from Tyson. I think had he fought 95 Mike Tyson(all power not much movement) he would have been a problem for Tyson.
Two of my favourite fighters of the period . When you look at Tysons record he never faced either of them and also Oliver McCall another good fighter of the era
It's not Tyson's fault that Bert Cooper lost to Carl Williams and Oliver McCall lost to Frank Bruno. It was enough for them to win their fights to get there.
Amazing fighters! The isn't Human beings walking the earth today that could beat either of these guys, the fitness and TOUGHNESS is absurd. For me bert cooper had probably the best chin in history.
What???? Bert Cooper had the best chin in history? How many times was he stopped again? You can see very clearly from this that only one fighter was never hurt, despite taking massive shots, and it wasn't Bert...
Ray Mercer has to be in the top 10 of best chins in Boxing Heavyweight history. I have Ali #1. Tex Cobb as #2. Mercer at #3. Now, regarding Cooper, if he had better defense, he'd be an all-time great. But he threw so hard while winging his shots it left him wide open for counters. Nevertheless, Cooper had an Ali-type short right that smashed. I'm sure there are others with granite chins. I would like so say something, not word for word, but pretty close of what Champ Evander Holyfield once said, 'in boxing we all can punch.....it's taking a punch that defines'.
Cooper was ripped and athletic, but not a "big" heavyweight. More of a pumped-up cruiserweight, and it showed. It's tough for a guy who's 5'9 to compete with genuine heavyweights. Especially a guy like Riddick Bowe, who was huge. He blew Cooper out. Mercer wasn't all that tall, but was exceptionally strong & tough.
Mercer, Cooper, Bowe, Tua, McCall, Ibeabuchi, Sanders, Holyfield, Stewart, Toney, Botha, etc. were all way tougher & resilient than current hw fighters. Big difference in my opinion.
Mercer had a head full of concrete and could hit with sledge hammers. Just a great fighter but his stomping Tommy Morrison after Morrison was knocked out turned a lot of people off. Sometimes "just doing your job" is no excuse.
What a fight well we know that Marshall got the decision but all I can say that both fighters whooped the other fighter real good they whooped up on each other good and if you look at Mercy you think what he must have lost if you didn't see the fight yourself
I cannot believe these two actually went the full 12 rounds vs each other.
They had some real heavy weight's back then.
Gutsy and entertaining 🥊
This might be the most insane heavyweight slugfest I have ever seen..
Mercer was a fucking tank.
Gave Lewis his toughest fight.
Respect to Cooper also..
Two all times great warriors.
Hell of a fight!!!! Mercer, as we all know, had a granite chin!!!!
Yes . He was going through those shots like nothing.
What a chin for both fighters

Do Lol u even now what u are saying Mercer used spar Bowe and kicked his ass all the time
Two fantastic fighters with incredible will to win. Gave lennox Lewis hell of a fight did Mercer in a Losing attempt, full respect to both men
Great Fight. both Warriors. Mercer a beast like always, Cooper too 💯 🥊🥊
two tough, tough guys, Mercer has always been one of my favorite fighters
Mercer is insane
Won that fight with a busted jaw
Damn I miss watching these type of fighters. This is what real men look like
More attractive than Usyk vs Fury 2
Mercer was tough as nails.
Never heard of Cooper . He was a Tough Cookie with a granite Chin . As for Mercer he could face any top Contenders and do really Well . Respect to both
Cooper had some legendary wars with Moorer and Holyfield too.
One of the best fight where no dirty tricks and only boxing 🥊💪
Mercer's jaw omg.😬

Mercer fought even better against Lewis. That fight should of at least ended in a draw.
And dont you forget fact that old Larry Holmes toyed young butcher Ray Mercer!

the tyson fanboys excuse after excuse.
@@richarda3514 ffs Tyson would have eaten Cooper alive.
Mercer would have been a much tougher fight.
Rip Bert
Cooper had the power of a heavyweight power puncher but the body and chin of a cruiserweight. This is honestly the best I’ve ever seen him look.
A a true war wow🔥🥊
Thanks for fulfilling my request
No problem
@@crazykocounters4741 Hey man I've just discovered another hidden gem fight. Have you seen Jesse Ferguson vs Carl Williams ?
MERCER has tremendous CHIN ABILITY.
Amazing fighters! The isn't Human beings walking the earth today that could beat either of these guys, the fitness and TOUGHNESS is absurd. For me bert cooper had probably the best chin in history.
Tex Cobb had the best chin ever.
I'll fight him and Cooper in prime. Ray tough but that's what body shots are for
What????
Bert Cooper had the best chin in history? How many times was he stopped again?
You can see very clearly from this that only one fighter was never hurt, despite taking massive shots, and it wasn't Bert...
Mercer was possessed.
Lol
#LEGENDS
Two good ones
Two tractors 🚜 The surprise was that it went the distance
Cooper was one tough SOB but Mercer was tougher and more skilled
Real heavyweight boxers 🎉🎉🎉
I can hear berts grunts and all ole smoke

You forgot Oliver McCall.
David Tua
Foreman 2.0. No one moved that mountain of a man.
@@quarantinetheater5612 Ali only stopped him through exhaustion to be fair....
Cooper was not an easy fight at all. Mercer was vicious.
I’m convinced both these guys were made of steel! because there is absolutely no way, the average man can sustain these blows!! 😮💨😮💨😮💨
These the type of fighters top fighters avoided. Mercer gave Lewis all he had but most people don't remember that Mercer won gold in the Olympics.

Mercer had power and that chin. Underrated...undervalued...robbed against Lewis
Ray mercer highlights
It defies reality that this fight went 12 rounds...Mercer possibly had best chin of all time...Cooper not far behind...
Wow
"The question has been answered, Ray Mercer can take a punch!" Could he ever...
That was some scrap too..
Copper showed in shape and ready to scrap this time!
The winner. Mercers jaw
ADD THESE TWO....
Thats boxning
This is why we bang on about this era being so much better than today's average bunch. ( barring Usyk). Mercer and Cooper would have killed AJ.
Mercer, Cooper, Bowe, Tua, McCall, Ibeabuchi, Sanders, Holyfield, Stewart, Toney, Botha, etc. were all way tougher & resilient than current hw fighters. Big difference in my opinion.
Ray mercer looks physically stronger than Michael Moorer when comparing there respective fights with Bert cooper.
Mercer had a head full of concrete and could hit with sledge hammers. Just a great fighter but his stomping Tommy Morrison after Morrison was knocked out turned a lot of people off. Sometimes "just doing your job" is no excuse.
Tell me Burt Cooper didn’t have the toughest chin in boxing
Clearly Mercer had the better chin.

Mercer jaw was broke in this fight and he still fought on and won
