I just checked the GoPro site and it is not for the GoPro Black. Per their site "Get $100 off HERO7 Silver or Fusion.". You have pick one of the two camera only. 1) Choose - HERO7 Silver or $100 off GoPro Fusion - $100 off 2) Trade - Send us any old digital camera. We'll cover the shipping. 3) We'll ship your new GoPro once we receive your old camera.
I took the Hero 7 back and im sticking to my Hero 4. In some cases the H7 have some grainy image that i hate!! Yes, even outdoors. The H4 in same conditions dosent have any noise/grain! Yeah i loved the stabilization and hyperlapse but thats it and for me image quality matters and just dosent worth to upgrade.
I agree, but only if the Hero4 is mounted on a stabile item, such as my helmet or gimbal. I love my hero 4 Silver, it's great. But if I want smooth footage wen I'm skiing I take my Hero7 black on a stick...
I'm in the market for a second GoPro after having gotten a used, Hero Deuce back in 2014. The 4 seems sufficient, but the image stabilization on this latest model seems quite useful. If I could blow money on pop-pops, this camera should be well within my range.
Everyone does. The HERO 4, especially the silver music series had outstanding audio for being an on-board microphone. I refuse to upgrade until the waterproof mic sounds at least as good at the HERO 4's.
Jordan Williams Yup, that is the cost of making a waterproof mic. The Hero 5 and 6 really sucked for audio and with the 7 GoPro is finally almost caught up with the 4, maybe the 8 might be the first to finally improve on the 4 but I’m not holding my breath for it. Go the mighty 4!
GoPro HERO 4 silver has the best on-board mic I've ever used, and I've worked with $3K cameras. Unless you want to go pro and use an off-boad mic, HERO 4 wins every time concerning audio. This video doesn't do it justice. And the HERO 4 silver Music is even better supposedly.
If you're filming in 1080p 60, the GoPro HERO 4 silver is all you need. (Silver has a touchscreen on the back.) Better mic too, even in the waterproof case.)
Thanks for the comparison. I notice the 4 seems much more flare-resistant than the 7, which would be a big benefit to me as I kinda like shooting into the sun, and my current 3+ black never had flare issues once the camera was out of its plastic shell. The 3+ black audio is great to my ears too, and here I am shocked at how vastly superior your Hero 4 audio is compared to the awful, muffled indistinct Hero 7 audio. Glad I watched this as I was about to replace my 3+ with a 7...Now I release the trigger finger pressure and wonder if the 9 will have decent audio, and revert to a removable lens cover.
I hate to point this out, but the Hero 4 line was definitely released in 2014, not 2015. I bought two Blacks and a Silver in November 2014. I still use them to this day. I also have a couple of Hero 6's, and have ordered a couple of Hero 7's. I must admit, I actually prefer the image from the Hero 4, to that of the Hero 6... 👍
I still record with my hero 4 sliver and is the best one ever with the mic input and now the new got good features but the mic is the big box it sucks 5 6 7 8 all requires a big adapter
How about the Garmin Virb Ultra 30, shoots 4k30fps. Has 3 axis electronic image stabilization up to 1080p/60fps. Has built in GPS/Accelerometer/ gyroscope/altimeter/compass & ANT+ conectivity, bluetooth audio, live streaming at 720p/30.& voice control. Has slow-mo at 1080p/120, 720p/240 or 480p/300. Released just ahead of the Hero 5.
Awesome video! I owned both 7 and still have my 4... 7 is awesome WHEN it works... unfortunately the hero 7 has too many glitches, I owned it for one for a day and returned it after many “freezing” episodes while recording. I tried multiple recommended sd cards, manual updates, rang go pro for support and they basically said I did all the right things and that this is a KNOWN common problem!! ... that the updates WAS supposed to fix it. My opinion would to be to keep the 4 which has no glitches and don’t waste your time or money on the 7 or risk losing a lot of footage
I use a Hero3+ Silver. I'm considering upgrading to the Hero 4 Silver (which has a touchscreen), since I don't shoot in 4K. For ease of use, you can also buy an optional touch-screen module for the 4-series (and 3-series), but it's kinda pricey. To preserve a compromise between toughness and audio quality, use a Skeleton Case that has cutouts for the mic and the charge ports. It's still not waterproof, but you get that wonderful sound quality, and the full impact protection. These cost significantly less than the touchscreen module. I also have a v4 Session, but that's its own thing and fills a role in my shooting as an auxillary or quick-grab camera.
I don't think you need to nut and bolt restore it. Clean it up, correct the paint and rust, replace all the belts and anything else that is worn out or not working. Looks like a great car, I'm looking forward to this one.
Great video. I have to disagree with the stabilization though. Stabilization on something like Vegas, Pinnacle Studio, etc is better than what the 7 offers. That said if you're not going to edit your videos in a program like that then the built in stabilization might be helpful.
It does look like the the Hero7 has a tad too much contrast compared to the Hero4, but then again sharpness of the 7 is through the roof. Deffinitly need some tweeks but i'm stoked to get one myself.
OK, the big factors I think are image stabilization,LED screen, and ease of use. The 7 has all of these over the 4 but....BUT...I can pick up a 4 Black with a massive accessory kit for $99.00 shipped and add a 3 axis gimble for under $80 and you've got a strong camera setup for less than $200. Do I need a full on action camera? Nope just like 90% of Go Pro buyers I use it for standard 1080p video. The 4 and 7 Black's both shoot awesome 1080p video and both shoot 4K all be it the 7 has a higher frame rate but the 4's 4K looks great as well. I can add an LCD screen to the 4 for under $50.00 if I really need it and still keep it under the 7's base price. The 7 is a great camera but if I want one I'll give it a few years and pick one up really cheap. If you don't need all the features of the 7 just get a 4 black or silver. Frankly, the 4 black was technologically ahead of it's self by about 2 years thanks to the 4K video and the advanced sound.
I’ve been using the hero 4 for a ages now and it becomes and the ease of use gets better as you go it’s almost muscle memory for me changing the settings without using a touchscreen.
Bought the hero silver 4 used for 45.00, with a zhun gimbal for 80.00...works great for me. While carrying a gimbal around sucks, gimbal stabilization is way better than digital
Just picked one up in great condition. The silver edition. Already have a session and few hero three’s in silver and black editions. Haven’t tried any newer ones like the old ones
Just purchased a brand new Hero4 Black since I need a bluetooh connection for motorcycle vlogging (using Sena Audio Pack). I saw many motovloggers using this cam, because of this add on hardware from Sena. Excited to try it! This will be my secondary cam for motovlogging with vocal audio, alongside HERO9 Black that will released in a few days :)
Something that nobody seems to mention, and annoys me about the 7: you can not use SuperView at 4k-60fps, only 4k-30fps. If I would have known that I wouldn't have bought the 7 (and yes, for me it was also an upgrade from the 4 black). I think GoPro should make a 7 "professional", with an external case, 4k60fps SuperView and better audio. (not that they will listen to me).
I’m deffinitly saving this video cause I know in 2022 when we ALL have the gopro 11 super black action camera we’re gonna look back and say .... gee. The gopro 7 Black .... what were we thinking ... garbage ...crap... pos.......... and we ALL know we’re all gonna own the gopro 11 super black admit it !!!! Lol Can’t wait till you do that video in 4 years !!! Love your videos you do a fantastic job !!
I bought my Hero 4 black to strap on the bottom of my Hexacopter way before DJI bought out the drones with gimbals. Still got the hero 4 awesome bit of kit.
But the go pro hero 4 does night footage way better than the 7. Overall 7 just has a bunch for fancy features. 4 is better in my opinion especially for what I wanna use it for.
I like the Hero 7 in a gimbal because analog stabilisation works better than EIS in lower light. But the ability to take the 7 off gimbal for tight spaces, water, and body mounting with stabilisation makes the camera so much more versatile. Having said that, my old Hero 4 is showing signs of old age and needs new batteries, but I always thought it an amazing workhorse camera and on a gimbal it is stabilised plus the gimbal increases battery life. The 7 is only an addition to the 4, not a replacement. The 4 is better than the 5 and 6, and still matches it with the 7 on many levels. All hail to the mighty Hero 4 Black! Plus it is still the best looking GoPro ever!
just going to mention because I just got a hero 7 black. my hero 4 can change settings just as fast. the touch screen on the hero 7 is nice but a bit laggy or slow compared to physical buttons. The hero 7 has great eis though so It's nice.
Some points this youtuber failed to mention are.....Point #1 - Ease of Use: changing settings on the GPH4 may not be as easy as the GPH7 (body vs body) but IT CAN BE through the use of the LCD BacPac Display Screen Converter Box Adapter! Point #2 - Durability: if you don't plan on shotting vids underwater using the GPH4, than a waterproof case isn't necessary. In addition, if you swap out the Standard Housing to that of the Skeleton Housing not only will you have the same durability/protection but it will also enhance the audio quality thousand folds compared to the GPH7. Point #5 - Stabilization: gimbals can be had for less than $50 these days. All in all, if feel the GPH4 is the best bang for the buck because the GPH4 can be had for less than $140 + accessories compared to GPH4's price tag of $380+.
Is it just me or is the GoPro four better in image quality since it looks like it has a flatter image profile and better audio. Idk I own every GoPro and I still use the 3 Black and 8 as my daily drivers
Just traded in a hero 3 white for the 100 off a 7 black. I use a hero 4 silver too, and I have to say, I prefer the 4 for doing nighttime timelapses. But over all, I`m digging the 7.
7:14 the image quality in the 7 is way better than the 4. Look at the detail in that grass and the trees. Look at the pattern on his t-shirt. Also appears to have better color depth. I don't know how you can say the image quality is comparable. The 4 looks okay, but the 7 is noticably superior. Although the 4 does seem to have a wider angle lens which is kind of appealling... depending what you prefer I guess. Also the audio clarity seems better coming off the 4.
picked up a hero 4 black for $65 on ebay. I have a hero 7 black, but I only have 2 micro SD cards that are compatible with it. Whereas I can choose virtually any class 10 micro sd card 32gb or above in my hero 4 black. Now that lack of image stabilization is rough but i have a zhiyun smooth 4 and an adapter for action cams so yes I have some gimbal support.
For me I have had the 4 black since it went on the market. has been great but for what I do, motocross and downhill mountain biking the 7 Black I just bought is going to be so much better for me. Also for skiing too.
The audio isn't all that different, for as much better as the 7 is. My curiosity wants to know how the 7 will look in a gimbal anyways, since I already own one that was used with the 4 black
Recently. I sold unopen Hero 4 silver and Hero 5 black. I got Hero 7 black almost like free because of trade...I kinda regret sold Hero 4 silver but I have other used Hero 4 silver. I decided to sold because Hero 7 black is crazy awesome with hypersmooth and Time Warp that wins hand down...
2020 and I still use the hero 4 black for my MTB videos. I’m considering for a crisper video though and wondering how the 7 is. I use a Karma gimbal so I’m not looking for the weak stabilization.
Nice review Dad but I am not upgrading yet and keeping Hero 4 and in some scenes the Hero 4 has even more natural colors . In other scenes even slight change in the angle of shooting video will produce slightly different image quality , I guess the stabilization is the one big plus for the Hero 7
IMO hero4 has better colors than 7. Love how new hero's oversaturated, oversharped and has too much contrast :D (burn skin) to make "better and cleaner picture" :D. audio... when you realize that how separated waterproof case is not so bad when you hear much difference in audio quality :P
hero 3+ black better battery life maybe 10-15% than hero 4 black. hero 4 black better menu(presence button wi-fi). hero 4 have bluetooth and speed wi-fi. Maybe sound at hero 4 black better hero 3+, but hero 4 silver has sound better than hero 4 black.
Let me just say this: GoPro Hero 4 Black, is the result of a company actually caring about making an amazing product. GoPro wanted to shine into the 4K era, and they did so good, that now even the 7 has to find small ways to sell itself and outshine just a tad. I wish GoPro would’ve just cared more about actually moving forward. But with all the launches after the 4, it felt like GoPro just wanted to sell something to sell something. It was just rushed and you can tell they no longer cared as much.
Great, so no mention how the older gp's had way better water resistence with that case... Why I still havnt upgraded from a hero 3 black in 2020... that plus the sensor quality is basically the same as a modern smartphone. How can you justify such a cost when your phone is now just as good. (Miss the days when a standalone action cam that cost the same as a phone was actually bettter :( ....)
Great video, I bought a used GoPro Hero 4 about a month ago based on reviews and comparison on UA-cam, yes I'd like to buy the 7 but budget minded I bought the Hero 4 on Facebook Market for $125.00 with a few accessories.
@The Everyday Dad I want a camera for mountain biking. GoPro offered a trade-up program where they give you an additional $50 off of the $329 price for any camera working or not ($279). That makes it a very attractive offer because I was originally going to buy a used Hero 4 or 5 Black and use a gimbal with it. The cons to using a gimbal are, more weight, another thing that could get damaged, the camera can pick up the motor noise from the gimbal, and it looks a little silly due to the camera sticking out so far. Do you agree?
Hi great video! I am torn between these 2 cameras. I am a motorcycle vlogger and want a great camera. My only reason for wanting the go pro 4 is the adaptability with external mics. The 7 requires a bulky additional attachment (ugg). Is it worth it to lose stabilization and a little vid quality, or just deal with it and get the 7? Assuming they were the same price, which should I get for moto vlogging? Do I desperately need the added stabilization of the 7? Thanks so much for your advice!
I just buy a hero4 in a very good deal with all accessories and I see it’s nice camera I just started using it for two days and it is awesome thanks for giving all that information can I fix hero7 battery on hero4 thanks again
Have you tried the Hero 4 Silver? It’s my first (and only) gopro. If I upgrade to the 7 black.... what will I do with my 4 silver? But.... you are really persuading me to upgrade.. hehe
The audio on the HERO 7 is poor compared to the HERO 4 silver. HERO 7 sounds better than the 6, but this video makes it sound better than it is. HERO 4 silver master race!
I would find this more interesting if you kept it in 1080fps fight since many people use just that resolution. I have 4K on my action cam, but never use it because my laptop isn't that muscled and I don't even have sd card that can keep that up.
Unduly harsh ! Mention the lack of audio recording capability of the hero 4 in its case. only time I use the case is in the water. Where neither has audio recording capability.
The Hero 7 simply isn't good enough to justify moving up and spending a whole bunch of money of new accessories and fittings. Since we already have gimbals for the Hero 4 and a clip on touch screen, moving to the 7 just doesn't make sense for us. For anyone with a bunch of gear for the Hero 4, what would be the point of moving platforms? Hero 4s second hand can be picked up for around $200. It is hard to find better value than that.
Hero4’s quality control is way much better than Hero7. GoPro didn’t solve the battery door uneven issue since Hero 5. But for the hypersmooth simplicity, Hero 7 is unbeatable for skiing.
I am amazed with GoPro. I’ve had a hero 7 since they released and I was just at Best Buy and picked the hero 4 up for $30... also got the hero 2018 for $60 and the GoPro fusion for $199....
I have 2x GoPro Hero 4 silver I use for vlogging. I have FeiyuTech G3 and a a G4 gymbal. If I can get away from that I would upgrade BUT I can get a Hero 4 for £100 where a Hero 7 black is £380, hmmm and there-in lies the crux of it. If one fails and I quickly replace it on the cheap. Let not even start talking batteries and filters, that's another expense. So my 2c is if you want to start vlogging on the cheap get a GoPro Hero 4 but if money is not a big issue go for Hero 7 black. I will be getting one in the future though to really skew my opinion.
I am convinced that a GoPro is a better choice for use as a dash cam versus actual dash cams. I do a lot of narration in my travel videos while driving. So, good audio is important. I like the audio quality of the Hero 4 Black, but it doesn't have image stabilization. I am concerned about image quality, both on the highway and everything in between, including dirt roads. Can someone tell me if the Hero 4 Black can be mounted on some type of gimbal, which then can be mounted on my windshield or dash? Or will the lack of IS not be too noticeable and therefore acceptable for UA-cam videos? Also, does the Hero 4 have an audio out jack for an external mic?
hey sometimes it is even fun to watch especially in a motorcycle doing the video with hero 4 becoz u can feel the action, there's a bit shaky yes, that's the reality of it, it's immersing the viewers into action. it's not even annoying.. theres more action to it unlike with a more stabilization like go pro 7.
Nobody needs a touchscreen. We need better image quality. The Hero4 side by side test appears to suffer from very bad CMOS blocking giving a very blotchy image in the middle to far distance. The image of the Hero 7 is much clearer and has far superior colour saturation. This goes to prove the 4 was little better than the cheap chinese knockoffs of the same period even though it cost almost 10 times the price. A few years later the Chinese knockoffs havent improved in quality, so a used Hero 7 will be a better buy for anyone looking for a cheap good performing action cam.
Good analysis. Hero 7 Black with the $100 trade-in deal makes it pretty sweet.
You know what I forgot about that deal, that is a really awesome addition and makes the deal even better 😁
@@TheEverydayDad And even better when you find that old 2 MP camera with 256mb memory to mail in!
Ha! That would have been an awesome find 👍
I just checked the GoPro site and it is not for the GoPro Black. Per their site "Get $100 off HERO7 Silver or Fusion.". You have pick one of the two camera only.

Used Hero 4's sell for more than $100 on ebay. I bet GoPro is just re-selling whatever they got in trade and not losing anything in the end.
Is It just me or is the hero 4 the best looking gopro ever
It is pretty darn good 😁👍
Looks like it was and still a awesome camera

Pioneer MTB Agreed. It isn’t even a close race in the beauty race :)
I have GoPro hero 4, 5, 6, and 7 but I must tell you guys hero 4 is the ultimate GoPro product
Bullshit. Shaky footage. The stabilization is required.
Could you please elaborate? I have 4 black and not sure should I get 7 or not? Thanks.
@@MutaharFarooq Thanks so much.

@@Ranstone I was going to say, my mic works fine in waterproof case. Thanks for confirming

Bud Stephens haha! This made me crack up.... GoPro 11 SUPER Black!
I will replace my Hero4 if it breaks before I die. I'm an old fuck and just got my Hero4 and housing.
That's what i've been talking about Audio Test .
Feels good that I have them both now...thanks for the review 👍🏼
I got a GoPro 4 from a yard sale with all accessories for 80 bucks
I got one with all the kit for $70 on Ebay but the housing cracked, so I bought an aftermarket housing. Works fine.
I prefer the image and the sound from the 4 over the 7.
I have the hero 4 and the audio doesn’t work
Weirdly enough I'm looking at either the GoPro 4 or GoPro 7 and found this video. Thanks for the awesome video!
Well nice! I hope it was able to help 😁👍
Thanks for this. Talked me into buying a Hero 4
just going to mention because I just got a hero 7 black. my hero 4 can change settings just as fast. the touch screen on the hero 7 is nice but a bit laggy or slow compared to physical buttons. The hero 7 has great eis though so It's nice.
Wow the quality of gopro hero 4 is AMAZING
The 4 black is definitely a great camera
It really is.
GoPro hasn't made any good product after Hero 4, which was reflected by its stock price in the past 3.5 years.
Thanks for the vid, was looking for this comparison. I feel better about keeping my 4 now.
Hero 4 silver is like the Nokia 3310 of Go Pros
picked up a hero 4 black for $65 on ebay.
This makes me wonder...why not put the sensor and lens on a gimbal within the body of the gopro
At 05:00 you said the Hero 7 by itself is waterproof to 33 meters... surely you mean feet? That's like over an hundred feet!
Great comparison and has me thinking. Can I give up my 4 Silver and Feiyu FY-G4 gimbal for the 7 Black? Don't know. Need to ponder on this one.
You might be able to, I’ve been seriously impressed with the hero 7 black stabilization 👍
Does the 7 work at all with ur gimbal?? I have a 4/wearable gimbal and I haven’t seen anyone put the 7 in a gimbal yet. Great vids btw!!
The Hero 4 Silver did have a touchscreen tho, although that one wasn't a "true" 4k cam as it only records in 4k15 which imo is unusable fps
For me I have had the 4 black since it went on the market. has been great but for what I do, motocross and downhill mountain biking the 7 Black I just bought is going to be so much better for me. Also for skiing too.
Around 5:00 you said that it's around 33M of waterproof. It's 33 Feet and 10 Meters
Compare PS2 and PS4 ?
Why not!
PS2 was a piece of crap and 4 wasn't much better.
Love how new hero's oversaturated, oversharped and has too much contrast :D (burn skin) to make "better and cleaner picture" :D. audio... when you realize that how separated waterproof case is not so bad when you hear much difference in audio quality :P
hero 3+ black or hero 4 black or hero 4 silver in sound quality and video 1080p60 which one is better to buy?
Whoa, @ 5:04: I think 33 meters would find a wet inside Hero 7. Would you like to bring that to 33 feet?
Please refresh me and what was the diference between 3+blk and 4 blk? Was it only 2K vs 4k? and nothing else or was there anything more?
hero 3+ black better battery life maybe 10-15% than hero 4 black.
hero 4 black better menu(presence button wi-fi).
hero 4 have bluetooth and speed wi-fi.
Maybe sound at hero 4 black better hero 3+, but hero 4 silver has sound better than hero 4 black.
Let me just say this:
GoPro Hero 4 Black, is the result of a company actually caring about making an amazing product.
The best feature of the Hero 4 Black... If I'm patient and I search, can buy nearly 3 of them, brand new, for the price of one Hero 7 Black.
Luckily I have both.. the audio from the 4 is insanely good, just like this channel.... cheers Gary
Nice! I'm glad you enjoy them! Thanks so much for the comment.
Bro, if you like stabilization, then you’ve gotta check out the Insta360 One X.
Yes, you can make 2D videos on a 360 Camera
Great, so no mention how the older gp's had way better water resistence with that case... Why I still havnt upgraded from a hero 3 black in 2020... that plus the sensor quality is basically the same as a modern smartphone. How can you justify such a cost when your phone is now just as good. (Miss the days when a standalone action cam that cost the same as a phone was actually bettter :( ....)
You’re amazing for doing this! I have a gopro hero 4 black and I’m considering upgrading I haven’t even watched he video just thank you!
Great video, I bought a used GoPro Hero 4 about a month ago based on reviews and comparison on UA-cam, yes I'd like to buy the 7 but budget minded I bought the Hero 4 on Facebook Market for $125.00 with a few accessories.
What's better hero 2018? Or go pro hero 4 black
I have the hero 4 silver and it’s by far my favorite GoPro ever the mic is by far the best out of any GoPro, and I love the original silver look to it
Hi great video!
You totally answered my question in my mind 😂😂 excellent review 👏👏
I just buy a hero4 in a very good deal with all accessories and I see it’s nice camera I just started using it for two days and it is awesome thanks for giving all that information can I fix hero7 battery on hero4 thanks again
Have you tried the Hero 4 Silver? It’s my first (and only) gopro. If I upgrade to the 7 black.... what will I do with my 4 silver? But.... you are really persuading me to upgrade.. hehe
I haven't used one before, but I like 4k 30fps for non action things and the 7 silver doesn't do that unfortunately.
The audio on the HERO 7 is poor compared to the HERO 4 silver. HERO 7 sounds better than the 6, but this video makes it sound better than it is. HERO 4 silver master race!
Hero4 is a BEAST!!! I have a 4 Silver and Still impressed with the video quality from a couple years ago.
3:15 explained...the hero 4 black is eddie brock and the 7 black is Venom 😲😲👍👍👍
That’s a good explanation 🤣
your hero4 doesnt have a touchscreen in the back?
I would find this more interesting if you kept it in 1080fps fight since many people use just that resolution. I have 4K on my action cam, but never use it because my laptop isn't that muscled and I don't even have sd card that can keep that up.
Nice review, I need to look into getting one of those Hero 4's.
The cameras are backwards you have the hero 4 black in the hero 7 black video and the hero 7 in the hero black 4 video when you show the cameras
I have a hero 3+ black and its pretty good. But i might need an upgrade soon and the 7 black is real tempting.
Good deals👍
Hey, i cant choose between the gopro hero 7 silver or the gopro hero 4 wich one to buy and why?
What gimble did u use in the video for the gopro hero 4? Couse i need some stabilization but I don’t wanna switch to hero 7..
Just get a hero 7 now
hey sometimes it is even fun to watch especially in a motorcycle doing the video with hero 4 becoz u can feel the action, there's a bit shaky yes, that's the reality of it, it's immersing the viewers into action. it's not even annoying.. theres more action to it unlike with a more stabilization like go pro 7.
