As a creator on a budget, this is the setup I’m working with right now. The microphone definitely helps, and you can mount your/a phone as a side monitor if you need.
Finally!!! Someone who shows actual footage and in different lighting. 🙏🏽

@Cindy Daws well, if you don't mind being limited to 20-30min of aerial only footage, and don't mind being restricted by environmental factors, and don't mind being limited by laws/regulations... drones are a nice accessory to have. If you want to have stabilized video, smart photo, Time Warp, recording anytime and any place (including under water), then the HERO7 Black might be a better choice.

that's cause of stabilization. if you turn it off in lowlight, its much better

𝐘𝐎𝐔 mentioned before sony's flaw of not having a flip out screen to 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 at yourself. 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄, the problem with the gopro is also 𝐓𝐇𝐄 aperture doesn't open up enough to get a shallow depth of field too. I mean I guess, if you're just expecting any 𝐊𝐈𝐃 on the block to start vlogging it might be useful, but 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 a film-maker's perspective it just doesn't allow enough control for me to pick one 𝐔𝐏.

I vlog on this setup and I love that "press and record" aspect to it, I'm still just getting confortable with vlogging and not having to to too much everytime I film something is great. It was kind on the budget too and I really like the gopro look. Sometimes I wish I could be a bit more "cinematic" though but as my content is mostly story driven this works fine for me at the moment.

I bought the Hero 5 for family blogging and it was nothing but painful.....I traded in for the Hero 7 and its soooooo much better!!!!!! I have a series of videos on my channel showing my journey from the Hero 5 to the 7.....
When you got in front of the soft box it looked SHOCKINGLY good with that nice soft light

Awesome video and what a great little camera. I've been using the Hero 7 for my outdoor Vlogs and the feedback I've had is great. I agree that the audio isn't quite there yet but it's definitely usable. The Rode is one of my recommendations for use when weather permits. Thanks for sharing. Paul

I don't want to have to use an external microphone. The hero 7 has the best audio of a Gopro to date.

I am so surprised the GoPro actually has decent audio! That mic and your audio enhancements did great! How did you edit the audio? Is there a way to not allow the shutter speed to decrease in low light? That is the only jarring thing I saw? Other than that a solid vlogging setup especially in the day time!
I just got the hero 7 and it's an amazing camera and sound quality awesome, it shoots in 4k and there's no gimble needed. I guess the attachments are by preference but straight out of the box with some mounts and a tripod you really couldn't ask for a better starter cam

Can you do iPhone XS Max vs Gopro Hero 7? They're very comparable which is not a good thing for a $400 dedicated camera.

I just bought the GoPro 7 and while it’s really stable and nice I’m now wondering what clear advantage it brings to the table over vlogging with your iphone. Your phone is with you and you can easily add a light and microphone to it at a whim. Unless you’re vlogging during serious action vlogging with the phone is more convenient and image wuality is the same if not better, is not any better, and the front camera of your phone gives you a selfie screen too. So, I don’t know.
Real World Endo I dont own a gopro sir, but according to some feedbacks, it is more durable than a phone like you can drop it and no cracks and still works. And Gopro have some nice stabilization.
Real World Endo the phone is a perfect vlogging camera, but it’s also your phone. Sometimes it’s hard to not use your phones imagine vlogging in a new city and having to use your gps at the same time. It would be very inconvenient.
Reminisce 🥴 The video that made me know about Potato Jet. I remember subscribing immediately. I've never seen a funnier UA-camr and a so genuine human being. Having a grumpy day watch a Potato Jet video. Guarantee it will lift UP your spirit.

Great one, Gene. I think I may buy a GoPro 7 when I start my channel. It might also be helpful for people to know that the 4 versions of the GoPro Hero 7 are priced differently because they have different capabilities in terms of resolution - for example, some can shoot in 4K and others can only shoot in HD.

I really enjoyed this. I use a Hero5 now as our primary camera for our family Arcade and Claw Machine channel. I have a Hero7 on order and this video was a real world example of what to expect.

I Just purchased the Gopro Hero 7 Black and your video helped me start setting it up for Helicopter search and rescue videos. I used to use the contour roam but I've found it lagging behind in accessories, although it does mount to my helmet very well. Thanks for the video.

I’ve used GoPros to Vlog for a while. When they released the 7 I thought it would be an improvement in quality. But NO !! I took it back and splashed out on an 80d. Quality is awesome !!
100% agree! Just did our first vlog with the Hero 7 and ASTOUNDED by the quality. We shoot in flat and color grade in post--looks a lot better!

to get my dead cat out of frame i simply used a shock cord to strap the mic adapter to the front of the plastic mic mount. it raises the "nose" of the mic up just out of frame with no added weight or space for packing etc.
That was super fun! Just picked up a 7... Sometimes it can't figure out what to stabilize. Just used it on a how to and mixed results. Sound is, oh, a BILLION times better than the 5! Love your style!

IV got this for my cycling trips . One for improvement I was things of getting some led lights for night riders .
The gopro 7 is good for vlogging on motorcycle trips or like I am doing now, while I am working on my mechanical issues for my short bus. It's easy to carry with me as I crawl under the bus & under the hood.

On the back of your rode video micro where you screw on to tighten it there are lots of little grooves, these aren't actually for grip they're to push the cable into...
Adjust the tilt of the mic and push the cable into it and you can easily have the mic out of the way in your hero 7 shot
