I just got a GoPro Hero 4 for $42 on eBay with accessories, and I wanted to get a feel for the video quality. Thanks to this vid, I'm glad I made the purchase. Not only is the video crisp, but the audio without a lapel mic is great. (It's currently 2023 as I'm commenting.)
I just found one on Facebook Marketplace for $75 (didn't even try to talk the guy down) with 4 batteries (3 of them new) plus a host of other accessories. I mainly want to use it for bicycle and Vespa rides, so hope it's sufficient.

An old video I know, but I found your video whilst searching Budget Gopro... because I am a total novice when it comes to filming, I have a great opportunity to film footage from a UK Banger Racing track (Demolition Derby) for a whole season. I thought why not give it a go, an oval track one direction flow, I thought easy 4 gopros one looking down at each straight & another one on each corner. Catching the footage from these stationary points (so was thinking the stabilizing thing shouldn't be a problem?). I've researched about field mics & so am going to get a single recorder mounted in the centre of the track catching the surrounding audio. My question is by placing the Hero4 black in the waterproof cases can you still get wifi access, would this camera be up to the job? (Sorry to bombard you with all this, I've not found anyone who can help in the slightest). going to be filming in 1080, im aware im going to need to battery change every hour, the track meets last about 5-6hrs. (Lots of changes of spare batteries/ mem cards needed). Any advice appreciated.
It’s now 2022 Dec and us poor folks are still looking at 4 black vs 5 black vs Akaso 6 plus. I can pick up a used 4 black with tons of accessories including an external stereo mic and 3 batteries for $80 and I think he’ll take $70. I’m looking at $90-110 for a 5 black plus $47 for the adapter for a mic plus an external mic. Too much for my non budget at this time. Can you recommend an affordable but decent gimbal? Thanks.

I have lots of expensive cameras, and just got a Hero 4 Silver for free thinking it would be a piece of junk. Honestly the 4k is unusable on the Silver addition, but 2.7K looks good. Honestly, it's got the best audio I've ever heard from a GoPro. I think its good because it lacks weather sealing. I was able to get like 2 hours of continuous video with it which blew me away.
Go Pro Hero 4 was the last of the great Go Pros, before they became like Apple and greedy AF, and made everything terrible. My Hero 5 rustles, cracks and pops like NO tomorrow since they decided to make them all waterproof. I have no idea why, when most people don't use them for that.
I think it's well worth it today. To get audio that is close to the same quality from the Hero 6 you have to buy that silly overpriced audio adapter. I think this audio is even better than the Hero 7 as well. Thanks for another great video

Just bought one off eBay for $99.99 plus free shipping. I have 2 action camera's and they're dookie the audio is so low in my videos you can barely hear me talking in videos. Hopefully a GoPro won't be a let down. Be nice to do some videos fishing only thing that sucks is the wind might be really annoying in videos.
I have a 3black and 5 session. I'm thinking about getting a 4 black or the later blacks off offer up. The session is good, but I need a removal battery

I was coming from GoPro II and after 4 months fighting against the GP 4 problems and the very inefficient services I have it away. The image OK when the files were not corrupted :)
Nice review, but the Hero 4 cameras came out in Oct 2014. Thats when I got mine and I still use it to this day. I'll be picking up a Hero 7 mainly for the stabilization but will use my Hero 4 when I don't need it or want better audio.
i was looking at getting a go pro session for moto vlogs too but im liking this alot better because the mic on the session is ass and i need a good mic hoping i can find a refurbished one or something because im not tryna spend that much
I don't know how long u follow the GoPro products but before the Hero 5, GoPro cameras were Silver only! Black was the top version of image quality. I got the Hero 4 in Feb 2015 and mine is a Silver version which means, nothing to do with hardware color, less image features comparing to the black. Right Now, we have the Hero 8 which starts with the white version again like the Hero 3.

Can you give me your opinion on these 2 cameras? I have the canon t5 but there is no wifi, no autofocus, flip out screen or mic input. I don't know if I should stick to this camera or sell it and get the M100?? I need a new camera for what I do and I have a hard time making the videos I want!!! I really like the m100 but it’s missing a mic input if you are looking to make videos. You best bet would be to save up just a little more and get something like the SL2 👍
I am able to find them for sale between $50 - $100 that comes in the case with a battery and a mount. That's a great deal for 4k/30 capabilities. A lot of people are looking for $120-$150 for them, but they just aren't moving at those prices.
I still use my Hero 3+ - I bought a few replacement batteries, but there has been nothing to make me want to update until the image stabilisation on the Hero 7 black. I'm sure I'll get years more service from the 3!

I too bought a pair of hero4 silvers, thinking they were blacks. Id say though for that price its a good deal depending on what you intend to use them for. Im still very impressed even with them having half the performance, however 4k at 15fps is a joke, hehe. If your fine with 1080 they deliver great, still wishing I had gotten blacks though so I can shoot 1080 120fps for slow motion shots
2021 is approaching quickly. I'm still using a hero 4 silver and the lack of stabilization, and not having 60fps over 1080p really sets this camera back. The best this camera can do is 4k 15fps, which is unusable for everything. The other two resolutions are 2.7k 30fps wide or 1080p 60fps superview. I'm finding I'm always wanting more because I'm seeing more and more people pass me in image quality.

I picked up a 4 Black with every accessory known to GP off Ebay for...$99.00 SHIPPED!! Don't buy a knock off GP, even know the 4 is 5 years old it's CCD is still light years better than the knock offs that are brand new in 2019. The knock offs of 2019 are comparable to the Hero 2's CCD.
GoPro basically reset the clock on its cameras when it dropped the hero 5. Yes it gave us the full waterproof camera with no case and yes it gave us a taste at stabilized footage but it had nearly the same on board features as it's predecessors.
Ive got the whole ra ge of gopros all from the orig hero to the7( and thr two seasions ) watching this makes me want to charge up my hero 4 black and take it out
I don't own an action camera, and after messing around with my phone and getting a fisheye kit for Christmas that just wasn't focused, because, well, basically it's a lens on a lens, I was and had been interested in one for a while, and after digging and searching, many others including you rave about this camera, and I've seen why, and your comparison, actually influenced me to get one. And I got it for a HUGE bargain I'd say. When most people are watching UA-cam on their phone or Instagram, 2.7k @60fps or 1080p @120 is just amazing for the price! If I told you what I got for the price I got it on eBay, you wouldn't believe me, haha. I'm so excited to use it at the new skatepark addition later this year, and biking, blading, pushing my daughter around, thank you for making this detailed video!
I just got the Hero 5 Black for my next adventure in South East Asia. Couldn't get the Yi Lite 4K and other competitors! GoPro Hero 4/5 are still relevant in 2018. Good video!
What makes the GoPro Black cameras great is they are aliasing and moire free. It give the video more of a film look. If lighting is ideal the video can look better than DSLR

It doesn't have the same specs as the yi 4k+ but I think its image quality is pretty darn good for a 3 year old camera.

Yeah it would always need a gimbal but that image quality and audio quality made me think that a gimbal isn't the worst thing.

I have the black with the LCD addon and it's a great camera for video.

My Hero 4 only offers 4K at 24 or 25 fps not 30. Any idea why? I got mine yesterday for £45 so I’m pleased 😀 enough
