Seth at gofest you saw me and my little brother as you were walking out of the festival and heading for the shuttle. I want to say thank you. I’m sure you were very aggravated at how much you were stopped walking through but you still stopped for me. You might not see this but if you do thank you
Damn I love that message at the end... “we’re all here to have a good time. Don’t let your camera gear spoil the fun.” This is something I have to constantly remind myself of.
I can only get 1080p on this video and 360p on Phils :'( I usually watch in 4k for the bitrate (1080p screen), but streaming 1080p isn't a big deal, 360p is not watchable on 24" display though, especially on a video detailing cameras. Will have to wait it out until UA-cam gets stuff running again.
It's literally cheap and good.. that camera brand is recently popular in Asian countries.. it's like the poco phone F1 market... They aim for number less profit but gaining their brand on the market
Totally agree with your main conclusions. I have Hero 7 Black but still keep and often use my Hero 5 Session. I am not that interested in audio so my choices take no account of that. I also wish they would make an updated Session. In my opinion the problem with most MTB footage I see on line ( assuming it is with Hero 5 onwards) is that folk think 4k @30 fps is the way to go. For any POV footage a 4:3 format gives better results than 16:9 regardless of resolution, and for MTB...or indeed any action footage 4K is a complete waste of time. I almost exclusively use 1440 and always use 60 fps which produces far better results than 4k. I would only even think of using 4K for a tripod mounted job.
based on what you said and what i have researched i think im getting a gopro 4 black im new to the sport not sure if i will be enough ahahah so i want to keep expenses at min without cheaping out either i think that a gopro 4 with a vertical gimbal would be more than enough for me as for now! and yeah i was planning on getting 1080p at 60k still better than 4k at 30fps hahahaah
I have both the session and session 5. The 5 is much better in every way, and its stabilization does make some difference. Get a used one off ebay while you still can!
My favorite comment at the end "don't let worrying about camera equipment spoil your fun of riding your MTN Bike". As always, great info, well spoken, and fun to watch.
Hey Seth! Im the kid that saw you at the airport in Asheville! You have no idea how great it was to finally meet someone that I really look up to and I really trust! You truly made my day! But ya I lived in Cabot for a few years, owned a bike but never rode it, ashamed at that fact as now I am in love with riding! You have truly inspired me to ride alot more often! Much love from Colby 🙏❤️
Totally agree with your comments especially regarding Session - I have two of them a Session 4 and a Session 5 - one configuration that people who own a Session already is Session + FeiyuTech WG2 waterproof gimbal - good for mountain biking and of course water sports such as kitesurfing. I use it with my Session 5 and it's a little gem. As for the Session I put it in places that NO OTHER camera will go - the possibilities are endless.
I think I’ve seen Trail Features ride with the “ride ruiner 5000” 😆 You again analyzed the hell out of the cams and unfortunately I agreed with everything you said! I personally am of disappointed with the hero 7 black, but if you’re making more sophisticated videos like yourself, boost master, or GMBN then it fits the bill.
It's really cool to watch your inner film maker hit his stride. It's always been evident how much though you put into your videos, but now the flow is much more seamless. Keep up the great work!
I got a $29 action camera on amazon and it shoots 4K video at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps. It has a good design and has a waterproof case that fits GoPro mounts. It’s good but looks bad in low light and at night and has a mic that could be better, but it gets the job done.
Amazing channel, I just would like you to upload more. I know you have a busy schedule with going to the trails, getting the film, editing the film, then uploading, I just like your channel and want to see more content per week.
Good video! Great Points. I just picked up a pristine GoPro Hero 4. It came with carrying case, two batteries and dual charger, charger cord, the case with waterproof doors and more, the doors. We're not used and still in plastic. All for 100.00..on Fb marketplace. .not refurbished... But gently used by a family man who needed the money for Christmas. It's excellent. I just pulled my original Gopro Hero motorsports package out of the box. It was. Never used...and works. Gave it to my boy. Love my Hero 4.. And Gopro stock is down and articles say circling the drain. Market saturation and the availability to buy used for cheap is the way to go.
that's a lot of work, and has already been done, check out The loam ranger 's video, he got two videos on the subject, one is how to set up the camera to take good footage, and part two is editing, he use Davinci resolve, which I also use, it has a fast learning curve, only thing that can be annoying is setting up profiles for time line, this has to be done before editing. I first remove fisheye in GOPRo studio, then drop the converted clips Davinnci resolve edit , and then save it, and ad it compress it via gopro studio. cus Davinci resolve makes huge files, that cant be uploaded, or viewed. I hope this helps.
I always love your videos. And the music you chose is epic. I have yet to pull the trigger on a action camera but you have sure narrowed it down for me .. thanks
Once again I underestimate seth as I think, I dont record, this video might be a bit boring. But I watched it as I have watched every other video on this channel. And somehow, it was more enjoyable and fun than any other content I've seen lately. Nice job seth ily.
Okay but we all know the true Ride Ruiner is the SBH4000: Chest-Mounted Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Stabilizer Rig! Like if you know where that’s from!
i currently have the hero 2018 version and its great. i ride in copper harbor a lot where the trails are really rough and my footage is great with no gimbal. So this video helped and im going to buy the 7 black next year. thanks seth!!!
I just got a Refurbished Hero 6 Black from Amazon for $210, easily the best camera per dollar now (almost a year later). I recently got a 7 white and realized it was "trash" after messing with it for about 15 minutes, returned it and bought a Yi lite for $70 + $15 for a waterproof case and got even more recording options than the white, granted it is bulkier in the case and can only be reviewed on a computer because the camera playback and phone app suck, but it is half the price with the same image quality. The 7 white does have solid audio though, but as it's important to know what I'm doing, I find audio while dirtbiking isn't a necessary factor for me. I had bought a 7 black initially after the 7 White before I decided on a Yi lite and a Hero 6 Black because being able to get more angles on one run is so much better than having to try recreating something awesome for a second angle. All I lose out on is slower slo-motion that I barely use and stabilizing that is arguably only slightly better, as the 6 still has fantastic stabilizing For less money than a 7 black, I got two cameras; a camera that is about 5% worse than its next generation as it still has most of the same features, and a camera that is great for side shots and don't have to worry about destroying or losing because it is dirt cheap compared to other cameras As of now the cameras cost: 7 Black - $400 6 Black - $210 7 White - $180 Yi lite - $70(+$15) Yi 4k+ - $200-$300 6 Black AND Yi lite - $295 If you want a good camera that is at a very reasonable price point for this category of cameras get a refurbished Hero 6 Black, because not only does it far outperform 2/3 of the newest cameras in it's lineage, it's only $30 more than the cheapest Hero 7 cameras AND you can change the lens if it cracked (unlike the 7 White), which is a no-brainer if you ask me. Also not to mention these refurbished cameras are most likely returns from people who wanted an upgrade seeing as the Hero 5-7 lineup is nearly indestructible. Trust me this is my 2nd Hero 6 and it's not because I broke the first one. It's because I beat the ass out of the first one and love it so much I wanted a second indestructible camera I could give to other people that might be with me and I won't have to worry about it being destroyed
i ride with a go pro hero 4 session under my visor and i rate it. love how hidden it is and doesn't affect rider visibility . gives great POV and sound quality . my top pick.
Gareth H I have a tld d3 full face and attach it to the visor , the helmet body would be a good bet as well . Sometimes even the visor moves a little when riding when tightened . The body of the helmet doesn’t move unless you got a weak neck or a top large helmet
I have all of these GoPro cameras, and right now my setup is Hero 7 with a Sony Audio recorder in my pocket with a lav microphone mounted in my helmet. I'm shooting Motorcycle and ATV videos. I love the Session 5 except for the battery life. On the H7 I can just swap batteries and keep shooting footage.
Seth as a newbie Mtb you tuber I still like the Evo ss and the hero 4 black. Evo offer superior Customer support for anything that may go wrong with that gamble and the hero for black offers great video quality an excellent audio quality
Totally agree about the Session, best GoPro formfactor and battery life. I’m still rocking the first generation Session and it’s more reliable than my others in terms of battery life and set up and use is pure simplicity
Seths bike hack I've been watching your videos recently and I'm getting interested in MTB and I'm in love with the videos and hard work you put in you have done a lot since you had started UA-cam and also remember to never give up
That's good to hear. I managed to buy a Hero 5 session before they left the shelves. Shot some urban footage and may soon it together some edited video. Been waiting on where to get music and not get copyright struck in the future, just got epidemic sound. Now I have to weed through music. But I've been doing research before I do my flagship video along with live streams every day
Just bought the Hero7 Black for $229 to upgrade from my Hero3+ Silver. Getting back into biking and the 3+ Silver just was not cutting it at all. I'm excited!
I have a hero 5 session and it’s my favourite GoPro ever. It’s small, the video is awesome, the audio is good and the stabilisation is pretty good as far as I’ve tested and I’ve rode full on DH trails with it and it definitely worked great.
I’m using a hero 3 my brother gave me it takes video’s I’m happy. I’m not going to post any videos with it though the sound is terrible but the quality is pretty good I’ve been watching all your videos to see how to make the sound better but there is no hope with such an old camera. thanks for all the great videos .
I realy do love my 7. I was a penny pincher in the past and got cheaper cameras, but they overheated, shot really poor video, the cases made noise, or whatever. With GoPro I have had much higher quality video, the image stabilization makes it so much easier to record trais from a chin mount or even a chest with minimal urge to vomit when watching. It really is an amazing piece of tech. And the GoPro Plus $5 a month, gets you a free replacement in case of damage, plus Unlim storage. Cant beat it!
I totally agree. I love my Session 5, especially when mounted under the visor. It really shows steep downs better than the chest gimbal which tends to flatten things, plus it does have a little image stabilization. The Evo SS gimbal with Hero 4 on the chest is the best for smooth footage and great sound (BKXC). BCPOV does a great job filming with a chest gimbal and helmet cam, then editing them together.
I use an Akaso camera that was purchased for under $100, all the necessary attachments were even included, as a backup to my GoPro Hero 4. It even shoots 4K. Yes, I know I'm way behind the times! Turns out that the Akaso has amazing video quality, audio is not great but it is ok. The body of the camera doesn't feel as solid or durable as my Hero 4 but I haven't had any issues with it and I've taken some hefty spills while wearing it. Also, almost all of the Hero 4 accessories are compatible; unfortunately, not the batteries. For a newbie to action cameras and making videos, this is a great camera at a great price. With an alternate audio recording setup, this could be used to make great videos at any level.
Upvote for no reason other than Seth using the left lane for passing, as it's intended! Hey, I like the super smooth gimble video... but something not quite so good is still perfectly acceptable! Your footage from the GP7 was actually fantastic. As you outlined, it gives a good perspective to rider inputs!
I just got the akaso v50x for only $ 100, and if you are in good lighting (it doesn't do that well in bad lighting) and have the settings right, its about as good as a hero 7 white or silver, and much cheaper. I definitely recommend it
I’ve had a hero session since it came out, I’ve bikes a lot on and taken a few falls with it, I’ve also used it in lakes a lot. Through all of this there is not a scratch on it and the quality is great. I would definitely recommend it
Related to the 7 Black: Daily MTB Rider and McTrail Rider showed a great way of using it by strapping it to a full-face helmet's chin and the results are insanely smooth. Once I get a full-face helmet, I want to try that out with my not so great Polaroid Cube
Outstanding video Seth. It was videos like this that got me hooked. Such a great comparison with something for everyone. We don't all want the budget option
I love you mtb videos and how to build and repair mountain bicycles, thanks for teaching me the steps and jacks, that's why I subed to your channel and very soon I'm going to make videos of my bicycle repairs and other things so good luck riding out their and don't break a bone seth
Thank you! Loved this video. I film my daily commute with a GoPro Session 5. It is compact, reliable and dependable. So much so that I have over 3,000 + videos on my channel.
On our channel we use two GOPRO's, HERO 4 black coupled with a Feiyu tech WG gimbal, and a session, makes for cracking quality footage, nice and stable plus a second angle for a different point of view.
yes Seth, I would agree with the Hero5 session, I have 3 go pros 4/5 /6. 6 is too big, the 5 is nice to hide under the visor... just wanted swapable battery packs.
Another solution is mounting an iPhone 13 on a chest mount with a ulanzi wide angle lens. Sensor shift provides the best stabilization in a phone. Try that over your session 5
Amazing how good some of that footage was, looking back to 2018 when the Hero 7 was the flagship. It's now the Hero 10. I have a Hero 4 Silver as my only GoPro and still use it sometimes. I've got 6 extra batteries for it but it still goes through them quickly.
I have a hero 4 black. I have it chest mounted and it does its job well. I also have a hero 3+ mounted on the fork or seat and footage is just as great.
Seth I've been a Fan of you for a long time and I always loved every video you uploaded. Because of it gives me a motivation in mountain biking. And I arrived in the decision to make my own little channel of mine but still in process of being a beginner, it will be great help for me for any support for it, but yeah take care always Seth on your rides
GoPro needs to make a hero 7 session
RideAllegretto they probably will tbh
RideAllegretto amen
But first they have to make a Hero 6 Session.

Seriously considering moving to the Ride Ruiner 7000 edition, argh!!
BKXC a bit late, but the hero 8 really doesn’t need a gimbal. I have it and I love it.

Damn I love that message at the end... “we’re all here to have a good time. Don’t let your camera gear spoil the fun.” This is something I have to constantly remind myself of.
UA-cam is all about dat 360p today! 😂
360p today
720p here 😎
1440p here cuz I watch youtube on my samsung phone
The only tipe of 360 on UA-cam should be the trick not the video quality
I can only get 1080p on this video and 360p on Phils :'(
I usually watch in 4k for the bitrate (1080p screen), but streaming 1080p isn't a big deal, 360p is not watchable on 24" display though, especially on a video detailing cameras.
Will have to wait it out until UA-cam gets stuff running again.

Is UA-cam now running on the Gopro app? Between the outage last night and the crappy video processing today, I'm starting to wonder... 🤔
I didn't have one problem last night but i cant seem to get above 360p with 5 bars of wifi
I was wondering why UA-cam didn’t work last night
It worked for me last night that's how I got first view comment and like
I thought it was only me, I was like what is going on???
I have the Hero 4 Session and I’ve only made one biking video. You’ve inspired me to make more and I thank you for that!!
I have a GoPro session 5. I record everything and upload to UA-cam. 3000+ videos!
I have both the session and session 5. The 5 is much better in every way, and its stabilization does make some difference. Get a used one off ebay while you still can!
I have a hero 4 and a 5 session
I use a Hero 4 session and a head mount. Sometimes my friends use it on dirt tracks, and the footage looks good. The audio is great too.
I'm still using my Hero 5 session. Good choice for my rides.
i recommend upgrading to the hero 6. It has much better coloring and if you want buy a polarizer!
My favorite comment at the end "don't let worrying about camera equipment spoil your fun of riding your MTN Bike". As always, great info, well spoken, and fun to watch.
Ahhhhh if only Seth uploaded every day
If only
So true
Lol
If that happens then life will be compete

Been waiting on where to get music and not get copyright struck in the future, just got epidemic sound. Now I have to weed through music. But I've been doing research before I do my flagship video along with live streams every day
When are we gonna meet the wife who puts up with all of these “hacks”
thanks seth you are the one who got me into mtb in the first place you'v inspired me soooo much! SMEASH!!
I don’t need no stinken cameras!
Just bought the Hero7 Black for $229 to upgrade from my Hero3+ Silver. Getting back into biking and the 3+ Silver just was not cutting it at all. I'm excited!
a video i really want to see and its 360p :(
If you can't find any Hero 5 sessions search for the Runcam 3 or 3s as they are much cheaper and same quality!
Hi
I have a hero 5 session and it’s my favourite GoPro ever. It’s small, the video is awesome, the audio is good and the stabilisation is pretty good as far as I’ve tested and I’ve rode full on DH trails with it and it definitely worked great.
"I haven't seen any good mtb video from the yi 4k +" well test it Seth that's your job!!
I’m using a hero 3 my brother gave me it takes video’s I’m happy. I’m not going to post any videos with it though the sound is terrible but the quality is pretty good I’ve been watching all your videos to see how to make the sound better but there is no hope with such an old camera. thanks for all the great videos .
once again, awesome video... very helpful. You are the best out there in this UA-cam space, also great meeting you in Whistler!!
Agree session 5 is great. Very simple, no batteries to mess with, no cases, just push the button and go.
Excellent episode, Seth. Thanks for developing and posting it for us all to enjoy and learn from.
2021 and I still have my session and loves it.
Great video Seth. Been asking these questions so thanks for your input
Very instructive. Like you mentioned: we are all here to learn.
Greetings from the Galilee
I definitely recommend it
I have a hero4 session and I love it. So compact and reliable
Another thing that method has is that steep sections actually look steep on camera
I have two Hero5 Sessions and I have been completely happy with them. Together they are the same price as a Hero7 and they are easier to carry.
Awesome comparison!
Thank you! Loved this video. I film my daily commute with a GoPro Session 5. It is compact, reliable and dependable. So much so that I have over 3,000 + videos on my channel.
Good video. I like that you understand your viewers thoughts and struggles other than just on the bicycle related videos
Thought I was gonna have to wait until Thurs - thanks for the early present Seth!
That was excellent! Been missing your videos lately. I got a GOPRO 3+Silver four years ago and haven't used it yet.
I got my GoPro 7 black on pre-order for only $300. So really can’t imagine a bigger band for my buck. The thing is just awesome!!!
Seth I think you helped me with this video big time. I am so tech challenged. I may go 5 session for myself to get the hang of the ride footage.
Just got back from rockville and sat down to watch this, didn't expect clips from when you were there at 4:40 hahahaha
Appreciate the comparison and your thoughts for the best cameras at each price point. Definitely will help me picking me next gopro!
