@jfender8023 Los Angeles Negros are a great band but Carlos didn't rip them off. Bands don't own chord progressions. If anything Santana borrowed the intro note of Corazon Espinado from Eric Claptons Layla.

And his name sounds cool 😎. If his name was Bill Hackleberry, I sure the band name would have likely been different. Maybe not, if they drew Santana out of a hat, the name is so cool, it might have been picked any way.

Beautiful song! Thank you for playing it! Another great instrumental song by Santana is Samba Pa Ti. It's a classic among Santana fans. A great choice for female Friday could be "game of love" featuring Michelle Branch on vocals with Carlos Santana on guitar. Thanks again for bringing back a great memory in music.
In the early 70's Carlos and John MacLaughlin made an album together as part of the Mahavishnu Orchestra (73') called "Love,Devotion and Surrender"...the inspiration for this album came from the teachings of yogi Sri Chinmoy...as you can see this spiritual influence is very deeply ingrained into Carlos
I am so impressed that this song was recommended and that these two listened to it. Europa (Earth's Cry, Heaven's Smile) is, in my opinion, the only perfect song ever written. Not a note out of place. No moments of self-indulgence. No stray notes artificially added as a means to get to another note. This song is absolutely perfect. Obviously, my favorite song of all time. Saw Santana play it a couple of years ago when he came to my town. I jumped from my seat and screamed when those first immediately identifiable notes transported me out of my body as I floated on the music. And I was sober. Yeah. It was that good.
Glad you all FINALLY got into the REAL contributions of Carlos Santana. People GET STUCK on the first 3 albums that were latin hard rock, commercially successful. But he changed, had A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING and his most beautiful works were from that point on. They were his awesome compilations on CARAVANSERI, BORBOLETTA, and WELCOME for starters. Europa is a taste of that.
Spent nearly two weeks learning to play this in a band about 12 years ago. As many times as I had to rewind and replay it to learn it, it STILL doesn’t get old. Carlos’ style and phrasing are completely insane - thank you for losing that bet!
Every time I hear this, I'm filled with such a sense of longing that it's almost painful. I have loved this exceptional guitarist, songwriter, and composer since I saw his performance at Woodstock 69. That was completely new territory, for a young man from New Hampshire, and I will never forget it If you want to hear some more, check out his music with Gato Barbieri, a sax player from Argentina. He played with Carlos in several live performances, and Carlos guests on a few of Gato's albums... Caliente and Tropico come to mind. Songs like Europa, Latin Lady, She is Michelle, Poinciana... Just beautiful. I urge you to check out this great Latin Jazz maestro, you won't be disappointed, I promise.
Take a listen of Moonflower, a double-album with a wonderful, eclectic selection of all the amazing music this band makes. Santana is a totally unique -- totally different than anyone else, and yet totally universal. Carlos is a treasure.
This song was the debut/wedding slow dance song of the mid 70s...love this song...I'm glad you finally got to it I've been requesting you play it since you started your channel Another simular song I've been requesting is Colour My World by Chicago...you will mot be disappointed
Superb! The late Gato Barbieri covered this pretty effectively but both Carlos and Gato collaborate on Santan's Latin Lady. One of the best "duets" I've ever heard. I knew it was special when I first heard in on Gato's 1989 "Tropico" album. Definitely worth a listen.
@@revo1336 are you sure? I have both albums and I don’t see Latin Lady on Caliente. Europa is on that album but he’s solo. Santana is with him on that cut on Tropico.
I absolutely LOVE this song. It's such a beautiful song. It reminds me of all the people, quinceañeras, and dances from my old neighborhood. I was in the old barrio a few years ago and it hasn't changed much. I saw shadows of myself in the kids there today. Listening to this brings me to tears from nostalgia.
As a guitarist of over 55 years this is one of my favorite pieces of music. So much soul a passion. I've loved it from the first time I heard and it on my Santana Playlist.

I was so happy when I saw this pop up! I haven’t heard this song in so long, but I am so happy to rediscover it. Another one (with lots of drums) is “All I Ever Wanted (was to be with you)”. I PROMISE you will love it 🙂
Carlos Santana is the worlds best guitarist today . Both Mexico and the USA should be proud of this iconic legend and what he has bought to music . And he collaborates with so many fine artists . 3 of my favourite duets of his is Smooth with Rob Thomas . Put your lights on with Everlast ( a song he wrote while in Hospital ) and Just feel better with Steven Tyler
I love Carlos Santana. I hadn’t realized that he performed the song, Europa, here. I first heard it on saxophone, by Gato Barbieri. Wow. I would encourage everyone to listen to that version as well! It changed my life… 😉💖
As a teenager in the late 70's I would put my headphones (back in those days some little rinky dinks lol) Lay in bed with my cassette recorder and play this song fall asleep and I loved it! Thanks for the reaction, the post and bringing back some great memories! As always stay safe and much love.
Guys! I am so glad you finally played this one! Now, you should find the cover version of Europa by a cat named “Gato” Barbieri. He’s a sax player, passed now, that did an amazing version of his friend Carlos’ song.
What an awesome way to wind down from my work day! So ethereal and beautiful Carlos is one of a kind. He and Joe Bonamassa are the best at emoting through their guitars.
I love Santana.......I love his Guitar playing, his playing is orgasmic. You feel the music all over your body. He's brilliant, he's a Master of his Craft.🌹❤️💋🎶🎶🎶🥃
What can be said? Carlos Santana is another level. From his acid induced legendary Woodstock performance to his collaboration with the world’s finest, Miles Davis and Eric Clapton to name a few, we are fortunate to live in a time with Carlos. He survived many tragedies and lost famous peers along the way only to re-emerge and revive the music industry. Santana evolved over time in various genres from jazz to classic rock, blues and guitar instrumentals. No matter what sound, Santana offers a relaxing voyage, a romantic mood or some dancing . It’s all there.
Santana played at the Greek Theater in LA a number of years back, maybe 15 years ago. As it was in my younger days, I didn’t have money for shows always, so at times we would hike into the hills behind the amphitheater, and this is how I saw Santana … (also Al Green and 1/2 a Radiohead show). At one point in the show during a song break, blue lights shot out from the stage and into the hills where we were. We were not the only ones up there, but the lights shown directly on a friend and I, and Carlos himself saluted with a dedication, “This one is for the people in the hills!” I can’t remember what song it was he played then, but I do remember he finished with a killer cover of John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme”.
I've been a fan of Santana since I first saw the documentary film of "Woodstock" in 1970 when I was 12-years-old. I didn't discover this masterpiece (and it is a masterpiece) until I heard it on AOR radio in 1976. Thank you, J&A for focusing the work on one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Beyond his staggering ability with the guitar I have had the good fortune to meet him a couple times. One of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Everybody's Everything is another great one I would love hear your reaction to.
Man how can anyone not love this. Santana is one of my favorite guitarists. A personal favorite of mine is the extraordinary Samba Pa Ti. (And ... if you ever get the chance, try listening to Jose Feliciano sing the words to Samba Pa Ti...that too is excellent.)
Thank you 😃. My favorite song from my favorite guitarist. Such emotion. Santana plays his guitar like a woman's voice. You can recognize his playing upon the first note.
Oh please give the orignal stuff a rest. They know the commercially popular stuff. Finally they are listening to the more EVOLVED SANTANA. (NO MORE OY COMO VA.- overdone). Who hasn't heard of Samba Pa ti? I grew up w/Carlos in SF and he became so much more than those early latin rock songs.
My younger brother went to record store and asked the owner’s advice for a LP as surprise birthday gift for me. The owner knew some of my expanded tastes back then, so, Santana’s new Europa LP was a great choice. Still on my shelf.
Saw him live in the mid 80’s and in 1988 his song ‘You Are My River’ off the album Festival, was our wedding song. There’s a reason he was called Devadip. He is a master. ❤️✌🏼. Love you guys for doing what you do. Semper Fi
I love all of Carlos' guitar ballads. FLAME SKY and SONG OF THE WIND have always reached me intellectually. But EUROPA enthralled me emotionally. It was sweet, rhythmic, and passionate. Following the jazzy period of CARAVANSERAI, LOVE DEVOTION & SURRENDER, and WELCOME, the album AMIGOS reminded us of Santana's early Latin blues, roots. And from AMIGOS, the guitar ballad EUROPA combined all of Carlos' best features!
I deff has words ! 😝He ripped it off LOL Few in the anglo market are aware. His version is cleaned up and musically better IMO vs Chilean pop band Los Ángeles Negros
I had the great fortune of seeing Santana live on multiple occasions. I saw them open for the Grateful Dead and also on solo tours. I was once on the lawn at Merriweather Post, while they were playing Oye Como Va during an epic thunderstorm. The harder it rained, the harder they played. The entire lawn area turned into a massive mud pit and everyone was sliding down the hill like a giant slip-n-slide. Amazing show! Great memories!
He set out as a teen to marry the rock that he heard on radio and the local music he heard every day. He truly gives equal prominence to both styles and creates something brand now.
I have the 20 seconds beginning at 2:30 saved as a ring tone specifically for one of my friends. I've always loved this whole composition. The natural progression to hear a very smooth and mellow Santana now calls for "Flor De Luna".....this, as well as "Europa" appeared on the album Moonflower (hence Flor de luna). At the time I was not familiar with Santana. I bought the album solely because I liked the album cover. It turned out the contents of the LP exceeded the beauty of the cover art.
Actually, the full title of the song is "Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile)". Which might just be the best subtitle of any song, ever. And also: GREAT PICK! Jay, you should lose bets more often! jk Finally, Please give Joe Satriani a try. He's been doing guitar-led instrumentals for the better part of his four-decade career. He's one of the GOATs as far as guitarists go. Try "Flying In a Blue Dream", "Time", "One Big Rush" or "Surfing With the Alien" to see what I mean.
Santana puro tijuas.he can make you step out of this world for amonent. Moon Flower , Bella ,canela, the healer light ,love, and life and many, many more beautiful songs, you got to play more E Palate another one
Boz Scaggs has a sweet, tender love ballad called "You Can Have Me Anytime" and right in the middle of it is a beautiful Carlos Santana guitar solo. It comes out of nowhere, and it doesn't belong there, but he pulls it off. It's worth hearing.
Maybe I'm going out on a limb. I have the full set of CD's of Robert Johnson. It is so old. Keith Richards had a huge picture of him in his living room. Eric Clapton for a while would not talk to someone if they did not like Mr. Johnson. I'd like to hear your reaction. I play guitar and Blues is my favorite. I hear Chuck Berry and hear Robert Johnson speeded up and using 2 strings. I think it would be a challenge. We are so used to technology but raw talent is at the heart of everything. I was born a couple of blocks away from where Carlos used to live in Tijuana. My older brother went to elementary with his older sister. When Santana goes, his legacy will be second to none in my view. There are many good guitarists, but they excel in what is already there. Santana creates a style and makes it his own and excels in it.
@@gthekid08 I'm not that much of a music aficionado so I haven't seen all their videos thanks for setting the record straight but still... instrumentals are RARE for any reaction channel

One of my favorites tunes by Santana and I believe this cut is from the "Moonflower Album" which was excellent but he did do this song on "Sacred Fire" album as well and took it up a notch because it was live.
Have seen them at least 4 times! Such a gifted way to make his guitar sing. His most successful instrumental has to be "Samba Pa Ti"... try the live version from Montreux 2011... pretty awesome! Or if you like wicked percussions, try "Jingo" from the same concert! Enjoy!🪘🎸
1970s Carlos Santana is my favorite guitarist by far. His guitar solos reach into your chest, grab your soul and make it cry. His entire 1970s output was him at his peak. Further down in the comments someone mentioned the vastly unheralded song Brightest Star from the Zebop album. Do yourself a big favor and listen to that. It's an extraordinarily emotional song in which Carlos and the vocalist Alex Ligertwood bring tears to your eyes.

0:44 Amber, I know how much you love horns so you’ve got to hear Europa played by the late sax player Gato Barbieri from Argentina. It’s unbelievable.
I was going to suggest that too!
Couldn't agree more!

That’s great that others are familiar with Gato (Cat) Barbieri. I wish I could figure out how to add a link to these comments. Thanks for the replies and thumbs up everybody 😊

The actual name of this song is Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile)
Glad you all FINALLY got into the REAL contributions of Carlos Santana. People GET STUCK on the first 3 albums that were latin hard rock, commercially successful. But he changed, had A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING and his most beautiful works were from that point on. They were his awesome compilations on CARAVANSERI, BORBOLETTA, and WELCOME for starters. Europa is a taste of that.
Absolutely, many instrumental riches in the albums you mentioned; I like the very relaxing "Song of the Wind" on the Caravanserai album

@@DavidRolph Song of the Wind is about as good as it gets . And let's not forget Michael Shrieve's incredible drumming on this track.
Amigos and Festival had some great guitar work too. Less spiritual but more funky.
That was completely new territory, for a young man from New Hampshire, and I will never forget it
If you want to hear some more, check out his music with Gato Barbieri, a sax player from Argentina.
It’s about time!!! Now check out Samba Pa Ti and Sueños
ONE OF THE VERY BEST!
Take a listen of Moonflower, a double-album with a wonderful, eclectic selection of all the amazing music this band makes. Santana is a totally unique -- totally different than anyone else, and yet totally universal. Carlos is a treasure.
Carlos played this at Bill Grahams furneal in San Francisco 1991. It just brings quiet tears every time l hear it.
This song was the debut/wedding slow dance song of the mid 70s...love this song...I'm glad you finally got to it I've been requesting you play it since you started your channel
Another simular song I've been requesting is Colour My World by Chicago...you will mot be disappointed
Superb! The late Gato Barbieri covered this pretty effectively but both Carlos and Gato collaborate on Santan's Latin Lady. One of the best "duets" I've ever heard. I knew it was special when I first heard in on Gato's 1989 "Tropico" album. Definitely worth a listen.
Gato’s was off of “Caliente”
@@revo1336 are you sure? I have both albums and I don’t see Latin Lady on Caliente. Europa is on that album but he’s solo. Santana is with him on that cut on Tropico.
Meant Europa, not Latin Lady
@@revo1336 glad to talk to another Gato fan!
If this doesn’t give you chills……. you always know it’s Carlos from the first note.
As a guitarist of over 55 years this is one of my favorite pieces of music. So much soul a passion. I've loved it from the first time I heard and it on my Santana Playlist.
This was the best reaction to this most beautiful song Europa.. (My favorite song)

Santana live at the Filmore 1968 is great !!! He also plays with Clapton in the 70's .
This is why we call Carlos a "Tone Freak". All the sounds he makes with that guitar! He is the King of Tone!👍👏
We were not the only ones up there, but the lights shown directly on a friend and I, and Carlos himself saluted with a dedication, “This one is for the people in the hills!”
I can’t remember what song it was he played then, but I do remember he finished with a killer cover of John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme”.
What an absolutely spectacular guitarist Carlos Santana is. The band is equally incredible. Fantastic reaction guys 😎👍
Thank you both for my 3 smiles today
This and "Samba Pa Ti" are my ATF Santana songs. Listen to these two great songs with the late great Gato Barbieri on sax accompanying Santana.
Beyond his staggering ability with the guitar I have had the good fortune to meet him a couple times. One of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Everybody's Everything is another great one I would love hear your reaction to.
I could listen to this song on a repeating loop!! The music just enters the soul!!
Back in the 70’s I had one song recorded on a cassette and would play rewind for hours. Europa
100%
Man how can anyone not love this. Santana is one of my favorite guitarists. A personal favorite of mine is the extraordinary Samba Pa Ti. (And ... if you ever get the chance, try listening to Jose Feliciano sing the words to Samba Pa Ti...that too is excellent.)
Love this instrumental
Thank you 😃. My favorite song from my favorite guitarist. Such emotion. Santana plays his guitar like a woman's voice. You can recognize his playing upon the first note.
Jay & Amber, You'll love Santana's "Everybody's Everything", "Oye Como Va" and "Samba Pa Ti"!!!!
Yes those classics
I second Oye Como Va.
Yes! Samba Pa TI!
Any song from their "Moonflower" album is pure listening joy!
This song needs no words for sure. Santana is such a smooth, scintillating and diverse guitar player or I should say artist. He is amazingly creative.
Great memories!
sounds amaaa-zing!
@@kathybwell amazing fun, but the mud got everywhere. Very worth it. 😂
Saw Santana three times, rained each time! Awesome shows with good friends.
The chills just listening ... It makes your heart and soul cry and smile at the same time.
He set out as a teen to marry the rock that he heard on radio and the local music he heard every day. He truly gives equal prominence to both styles and creates something brand now.

Now you made me cry! LOL
This is music you can feel. This song can mean anything it can be happy or sad but it is amazing.. CAN YOU FEEL IT..
Boz Scaggs has a sweet, tender love ballad called "You Can Have Me Anytime" and right in the middle of it is a beautiful Carlos Santana guitar solo. It comes out of nowhere, and it doesn't belong there, but he pulls it off. It's worth hearing.
Carlos does his singing with his guitar.

Carlos absolutely killed it in this track, if you get a chance, check out Gato Barbieri's version of "Europa", he slays it with the sax. Great reaction Jay & Amber.

Santana is one of the greatest, and they do have such a distinctive sound that you know exactly who it is when a song you've never even heard comes on.
