I bought my 14 plate citigo yesterday morning and spent all day driving it on A roads and in city traffic and I must say I wasn't expecting much from this car but man was I wrong! This little car is amazingly nippy and gets to 70mph much quicker than I expected and certainly much faster than my 20y.o. Micra. I bought the 1.0 MPI SE 5dr model and it really is a lovely car to be in even my partner loves it and she's not that impressed by cars. On that I will say please don't be put off by the Skoda badge, this is seriously a car you should be looking at if you want a small practical car that will do everything exceedingly well!!!!
It's wonderful the interior space than all Skoda's have! Octavia, Superb, Scala, Rapid, Spaceback, Scout, Yeti, Roomster, Fabia, and even Citigo! Not mentioning Kamig, Karog, and Kodiag, and like VW Group, got a very good engine consume
When I serviced my skoda, I saw the citigo on display at the showroom. I asked them if the stripes are from the factory, and why do they look so worn. They said it's because of the sun and the heat from the engine. Not a hater, just pointing it out.
Quite simply the BEST city car available. No question. Shame it has now been discontinued. However, the next model up - the Fabia - is also an absolute Superstar.
I love my Citigo. Can carry 4 people comfortably and I can fit 2 suitcases in the boot. Full tank does about 380 miles and costs £35 roughly to fill. Only annoying thing is the parcel shelf which doesn't appear to come off!
I hope Skoda have sorted out the Water Spray Tubes that have 'Pop on Tulip Connections in them as they tended to disconnect and leave a Wet Carpet area especially in the Rear Foot well. Repeatedly trying to force the Rear water spray to work after Cold Weather will cause the Tulip Connectors to 'Pop Off'. ( Briskoda.co.uk ).
drove for a week rented Up! and it's truly great to buzz around city (Belgrade) Love the 12V engine, handling and comfort... dislike heavy door that require manly force to close, co0driver window can only be lowered from his door, noise isolation from the back of the car... on a rainy day it's almost like it's opened at back, behind rear seat! But fun little car, so City Go being re-branded Up can only be better thanks to more affordable price!
To people saying they copied VW, well no because all three cars of VW Auto Group ( VW Up! , Skoda Citigo , and Seat Mii ) share mostly of their components except for some bodywork. :-)
There are people who prefer the Up to the Citigo simply because the Up offers more "luxury". In my opinion, the Citigo offers much more for the same price. I almost bought the Up! White Edition for over €13.000 but I decided to check in on the Citigo first. Now I have the most luxuruous Citigo with parking sensors, panoramic roof, armrest etc. for even less money than the Up! configuration. Now that what I call bang for your buck!
I don't get why people have to promote one car over another,as it's possible to have many good cars in any sector. That's definitely true in the city car sector. I'm a driving instructor and have had a Citigo for three months now and I think it's a cracker,it's easy to drive, well built with alloys, air con all for 7500 Pounds! The Yaris,Panda and Hyundai are all excellent cars too,but for me,the Citigo just edges. It just seems more solid and better built than the rest.
Head to head the Smart cdi passion and Skoda ASG both with options(!) in many different aspects almost tie on my scale. I love the Smart idea but they are unable to throw in anything to mach 3 years of Skoda's guarantee cost. What i could save on cdi's consumption would spend on service anyway. Silly now when Smart getting 'old' / outdated they just letting a me walking away. Looks like Smart losing me as potential costumer on this thing and want me to wait a few months for a Skoda ASG.
Nice review and an interesting little car that I'd never considered before. I don't mind the bonnet stripe, it's looks tapered towards the front so that it's not overtly a racing stripe. That said, I don't much go for the black wheels - a bit 'robocop' for my liking.
it differs from country to country. Also because somewhere greenline saves you tax, somewhere dont etc. But pretty much CitiGo and Mii are the same price lower than Up.
Are these alloys and stripe custom or it can be ordered with the car? This is the first time I see these on any picture or video or review of a CityGo. Btw, the exposed metal is actually a nice touch, reminds me of my Mk1 Golf. Better than squeaky and cheep plastic, that's for sure.
they have done the same with the Aygo/107/C1 which are all the same car as well; I think that they are trying to highlight the differences. Such as where the up! has the polished shiny dash, the Citigo may have the de rigeur grey dash. And he didn't demonstrate the citisafe system in the up! (if that car had it)

True. But imagine a situation, where You're distracted for a second, what happens of course, and a child suddenly runs before Your car. Autobrake systems are designed especially for that kind of situations
Great car to drive, I almost bought one, but I didn't trust the gearbox on it, it made wierd sounds even on a practically new citigo. I bought a Kia Picanto instead. The citigo was the better driving car, but the Picanto is reliable.
The test car has a manual transmission right? If so, then did the engine stall when you did the garbage bin demo? Or the car has some sort of anti-stall device.
Mat, why is it written Skoda, not Škoda? There is no Š in english or in the keyboard you use? Not being picky, just that it really is Škoda Auto, i mean what if we write Volksvagen from here on as well....not Volkswagen?
I wouldn't call it girly tbh, check out the Monte Carlo version (especially 2018 model) looks amazing. It's really steady on the Motorway and long distance journey, you won't be overtaking people but you will have a nice confrontable ride. You will save alot of money on fuel, repairs and insurance. Honestly I would recommend to anyone, it's massively underrated by everyday drivers and deserves alot more credit!
hey matt, im looking at getting a citigo elegance, is the 75ps worth the extra over the 60ps, i mainly drive on b and a roads very little on the motorway though. thanks =)
"under the correct conditions the system works perfectly" that is the engineering way of saying dont test it because if you crush it we will claim the conditions were not correct and you have to pay for it
I know Skoda's owned by the VW group, and it's even supposed to be a poor cousin (which in my opinion it's not), but personally I do prefer Skoda over VW models. The Superb, for example, is a marvel! Cheaper in price, but never in quality. Great cars!
Superdsheppard The engine in the Skoda Citigo, the SEAT Mii and the VW UP! is exactly the same engine, and it is made by VolksWagen. In fact, all three cars are made in the same factory in Slovakia (for the european market) or Brazil (for the american markets). Favorit was and still is a very good car. It is easy to maintain, cheap to run and roomier than both the Fabia, Fabia II or, in the back seat area, that the Octavia/Golf. And btw search for videos of Old Top Gear here at YT, where you can see the results of JD Power Survey from 1996 and I think 97 or 98. In 1996, the Favorit came 13th, in the other year I mentioned favorit came 15th and Felicia 4th!!
I'm 6ft 5 and this car is surprisingly spacious in the driver's seat
You’re 6ft 5 do you fight a little platypus 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Came here to see Mat's early videos from Carbuyer and have to say very crisp and humorous as always 😁😁
Funnily enough my mechanic has an Octavia that has done half a million miles. I think that's testament to their reliability.
Onto our second Citigo now. Couldn’t be happier... excellent car

Ingenious! Get the Skoda Press office to do the technical bit of the review for you! Love it Mat!
The Citigo is lovely, practical, big (even though it is small), economical. I have a Yaris and I would definately get one of these to replace it.
that red verision in here is sooo much prettier than the green one appearing everywhere in commercials in my country. Great review, just as always ;]
Brilliant little car, had one from you and never missed a beat
Now you just need a review of the Seat Mii!
vw up - skoda citigo- seat mii
Are the same thing- you decide the brand.. i like most the mii by the way
Nice little car. Can take 4 adults, manage a little shopping, is economical and quite practical too with the seats down.
I like this one more than the up! and the Mii, though they're practically the same
Cheaper to buy used as well. That Skoda badge :)
I like the skoda badge it brings happiness in my already happy life 👍👍👍🥂🥂
@@MotorTorq_ZA Pity.

It's good to see that for the important reviews they use Mat, not some women.
When I serviced my skoda, I saw the citigo on display at the showroom.

I it’s been discounted for a reason but Volkswagen will not say why worst car I have ever had and driven
Mat...this is what you do best. Another great review. I would leave the R8s to someone else. Something about you in a helmet just doesn't mesh.
I love my Citigo. Can carry 4 people comfortably and I can fit 2 suitcases in the boot. Full tank does about 380 miles and costs £35 roughly to fill. Only annoying thing is the parcel shelf which doesn't appear to come off!
parcel shelf does come off.
+alan carter found this out recently lol when I thought it had broken
Kira Anastasia does it have bluetooth?
loving each and every review from you guys @ carbuyer
Well done Mat Watson, great work as always.
Nice little car, for me it's either this one or the VW up! in white
I pick mine up tomorrow...the five door version :)
2 reviews in 1 day? WOOO!
That's much nicer than the up and the mii. Would rather have. Sportier
It's not standard equipment, but you can have it as an optional extra in all countries.
I hope Skoda have sorted out the Water Spray Tubes that have 'Pop on Tulip Connections in them as they tended to disconnect and leave a Wet Carpet area especially in the Rear Foot well. That is a nice car
I appreciate that
I like both Mr. Watson and Miss Jackson
Yup it comes in a 5 door version as well
To people saying they copied VW, well no because all three cars of VW Auto Group ( VW Up! , Skoda Citigo , and Seat Mii ) share mostly of their components except for some bodywork. :-)
I was at a Skoda dealership and there was a green Citigo in there :D
Another great review from Matt.
Matt you shaking up the show format again? :P
I’d take this over the VW for the lack of gloss interior. That’s a total migraine trigger on the up!
Next will be SEAT Mii? Right?
Thanks for this review helps my decision.
I would rather have the Mii, I love Seat!!!
lovely car, gonna buy one
i think there is one more reason to buy this car instead of vw up except the price...it looks five times better :)
There are people who prefer the Up to the Citigo simply because the Up offers more "luxury". In my opinion, the Citigo offers much more for the same price. I almost bought the Up! Why does no other car have that Citysafe feature? Did it end up not working in the long run?
I don't get why people have to promote one car over another,as it's possible to have many good cars in any sector. That's definitely true in the city car sector. Are you going to Review The Seat Mii?
I preference skoda over vw
that safety feature is interesting
I like the skoda

...And Autobrake helps the car in getting 5-stars in EuroNCAP tests.
The Citroen C1 review was a re-upload, I already saw it yesterday

Btw, the exposed metal is actually a nice touch, reminds me of my Mk1 Golf. Better than squeaky and cheep plastic, that's for sure.
You can get the Up with a matt dash. I have one.
Nice review

"Okay, bye, I'll be trying it!"
Right, so let's test it!
DiSASTer!
Everybody agrees with MAT!!! wow , congrats Matt...No dislikes:)
The test car has a manual transmission right? If so, then did the engine stall when you did the garbage bin demo? Or the car has some sort of anti-stall device.
honestly id take this one over the UP
I really do like this car! Great review :)
you finally made a review for Citigo!!! thank you!!!
yeah i never liked micro cars either. The suspension is just not dimensioned for high speeds.
I think the up looks better though.
Mat, why is it written Skoda, not Škoda? There is no Š in english or in the keyboard you use?
Not being picky, just that it really is Škoda Auto, i mean what if we write Volksvagen from here on as well....not Volkswagen?
Any good on motorways? Cant decide if it's a bit too girly..thoughts??
I wouldn't call it girly tbh, check out the Monte Carlo version (especially 2018 model) looks amazing. It's really steady on the Motorway and long distance journey, you won't be overtaking people but you will have a nice confrontable ride.

Totally agree.
Out with Matt and back with rebecca wearing something tight!
Which is the cheapest: Citigo, Mii or Up?
It's actually an interesting and impressive car.
Too bad the steering wheel can't be adjusted.
"please work! please work!!"
Wow 8 years ago.
hey matt, im looking at getting a citigo elegance, is the 75ps worth the extra over the 60ps, i mainly drive on b and a roads very little on the motorway though. thanks =)
One US gallon is 0.83 of British gallon. So just multiply the MPG by 0.83 - that gives you 50 US MPG...
cool car, i like it. i even think it looks pretty cool!!
"under the correct conditions the system works perfectly" that is the engineering way of saying dont test it because if you crush it we will claim the conditions were not correct and you have to pay for it
Since it's a manual, will it stall the car if the system detect a collision and stop the car?
Probably, but how is that even a concern
Does anybody know if the stripe comes as extra? I didn't see the option on their web page
Is there a different way of calculating MPGs in the UK? Theres no way that gets 60+ American MPG.
Is Navigon on standar equipment of the car in every country? In greece for example.
@Gruhak BluesRock you have to ask the dealer for it :)
I know Skoda's owned by the VW group, and it's even supposed to be a poor cousin (which in my opinion it's not), but personally I do prefer Skoda over VW models. The Superb, for example, is a marvel! Cheaper in price, but never in quality. Great cars!
Nice, is it and the VW Up in insurance group 1???
yes!
Props for using the word "sycophantic".
Seat has it too.
Where does the 1.0 petrol engine come from??? Is it the same in the VW Up and the SEAT Mii??? Who makes it???
Superdsheppard
The engine in the Skoda Citigo, the SEAT Mii and the VW UP! is exactly the same engine, and it is made by VolksWagen.

The article is quite long, but well written.
cool thanks
Quite welcome. :)
I think i want this when i pass my test does the city thing work on automatic
I hear the auto gear box is terrible, but they may have fixed that.
how much is it?
Slovenia loves it to :)
i also think both Mii and Citigo actually ended up to look better than Up.
Because the Citigo/Up/Mi costs half the price of Audi A1. (£7500 versus £14000)
Why do I think he left that bin out?
Coz its just been emptied by the bin men maybe
The Skoda Citigo looks better than the VW UP

agreed
Would rather have the Up! Nicer on the outside and inside
depends on trim
