I was in the chorus for this performance and was one of the only people to meet Jeremy Jordan at the after party. This show and that night will be engrained in my mind until the day I die, this show holds a special place in my heart.
One of my favourite things about this musical is how I consistently feel both disturbed and inspired by ‘Red Hills of Home’. It’s similar to the Hitler Youth song ‘Tomorrow Belongs to Me’ from Cabaret. There is an incredible power in a rousing tune. For good and ill.
I'm watching this for the first time and I'm speechless at this opening. Some of the most beautiful, gorgeous, rousing music I've ever heard, and all of it celebrating slavery and the South. Deeply, deeply conflicting. It's genius, really.
Knowing what happens, the way he says “IS SOMEBODY DEAD?” Hurts my soul. And I love sad musicals. On just my first watch, this is quickly becoming a favorite.
I'm always in two minds when I watch that number. Because the melody and vocals are so catchy and jazzy that you want to enjoy it. If you really think about it, the only thing that changes this song from sensual to creepy is the element of consent. If he sang this song to someone who is a partner and someone who wants to be with him, then it's kind of sexy. But because we know the objects of his affections are not adults and not consenting, THAT is what makes it sinister. Like when horror movies play nursery rhymes and children songs that normally are a source of joy and innocence, but because it's in a horror movie the tune becomes almost frightening. Then there's the added contextual layer that while the performance is painting one picture, the situation is polar opposite. The girls sing like victims while Jeremy sings like a villain. When in actuality, the girls are the villains and Jeremy is the victim in this number. Bone-chilling from so many angles.
an incredible performance of a story that has (sadly) never lost its relevance. I'm glad the show has been revived on broadway now too -- we need to keep telling stories like this until there isn't a need to anymore.
I feel the same about Spring Awakening. The original playbook (Frülings Erwachen) was written between 1890-1891 and is still heavily relevant today. It's sad, things like this don't change with the times.

I firmly believe it was wayyyyyy ahead of its time. This show debuted *23* years ago, under a popular Democratic president, with great strides being made in tv/film diversity at the time. We hadn't even had 9/11 happen yet. America was still in *massively* deep denial about the ways racism and anti-semitism were still thriving in our country, and absolutely did NOT want to confront that in the ways Parade does so frankly and effectively. We're only just now, in 2021, catching up to even talking about what the show unapologetically depicted. If there was a revival today, now that BLM and police brutality and racist legal systems are finally at the forefront of our conversations, I think it would sweep the Tonys and absolutely catch fire.
@@Gaywatch I agree completely that this was ahead of its time, I watched it for the first time in 2020 and couldn't believe my eyes that this show was so obscure. Chills everywhere
Parade is not a story of racism, so I'm not sure what it has to do with anything... If we're being completely honest here, no one really cares about the Jews (except for occasionally lumping them in with all the other stuff) and that's fine because we can clearly handle ourselves (with the help of God) and don't need people who have no idea what they are talking to "stand up for us." That's the way it's always been, and that's the way it will always be.
Jeremy Jordan knows just how to rip our hearts out in the best way. He portrays Leo so well as a man full of anxiety whose straight-lacedness might come off clipped to those that don't know him. I love Jeremy in everything he's in but his portrayal of Leo Frank has a special place in my heart 😭🤌🏼
I have so many thoughts about this musical now and I have no idea how many comments I might end up putting but the part at the end, 1:57:40, is so amazing. Leo in the beginning was so upset at how cruel the prison was to him, but at the end he's grown and reassures Lucille about it. That's just a random thing I like.
This is my favorite cast on this production to keep coming back to, so this clean single cut and subtitles are IMMENSELY appreciated, thank you so much! Also even with so many of my theatre faves in one room, this is the performance that put Joshua Henry on my radar; his part may be smaller but god every time he walks out, he just sets the stage on FIRE T_T
I love this pairing and I think they sound beautiful! I struggle with this and the current (Ben Platt) revival because it's cast SO young for the role, particularly, of Leo. I know these men make acting their life profession but at some point, they have to relate their performing/expressive choices to something real in their lives... and I don't see it in either man. Brent Carver was 10-15 years older than Jordan/Platt and I think that is what makes his performance indelible and a gold standard for the role.He knew what he was singing about and, somehow, it was real for him. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but it's one area where they don't tick the boxes - but nearly everywhere else, it is perfection!
It’s really great to hear you talk about Brent. He’s so often overlooked in favour of Ben and Jeremy. He was fifteen years older than Leo, played him very quiet and gentle, used his native Canadian accent yet you still totally believed the character. A truly gifted actor who doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.
To each their own but Ben and Micaela are very similar in age to Lucille and Leo’s age when it happened, as was Jeremy in this performance. But it is very refreshing to hear a different perspective after all the talk about casting having to be accurate to age because I do agree with you for the most part
Rewatching this musical like the ending will change this time... I swear I'm just one big ball of tension from the moment the police officer rings the doorbell
WOW I just finished watching this and it was literally insane. I got so emotional over Leo and Lucille's relationship and how the whole town just turned against Leo. The writer of this musical was genius.
Sad that it can be that easily but those Anti-semite folks are out there right along with the racists and xenophobes. They completely railroaded him, and he never really got justice but this musical definitely keeps his spirit alive
This is based on a true story. Lucille Frank is one of my distant relatives - I grew up hearing this story and didn’t learn about the musical until a few years ago.
Alfred Uhry, the writer of "Driving Miss Daisy" one of the best writers of small bits of southern anti-semitism. It won Tonys, this work but among old southern Jews, Leo Frank's name and cause still cause fear.
I've just watched this musical for the first time and the ending really broke my heart. I just couldn't believe that they really killed an innocent man, I kept thinking that thered be a moment where he'd be saved, but no. It's so powerful because it shows such an ugly truth.
Thank you for putting this together! I've spent what 15 years with this show in my ears (mostly Lara Pulver and Bertie Carvel version) but I still can't help but cry at the end. Also, I didn't know Jason was also a conductor. A man of many talents!
I was in the chorus of the show! I'm way at the back so you really can't see me, but I literally started sobbing during the finale. There's no way of capturing the power of 300 voices on video. Truly one of the most amazing nights of my life.
10:40 how can I call this home 57:20 1:09:20 it’s hard to speak my heart 1:36:20 it’s not over yet 1:56:35-2:00:00 scene 2:00:12 all the wasted time 2:10:12 Sh’ma

Thank you for the effort you put into editing, and captioning, and uploading this spectacular musical!!!🙏 Does anyone happen to know the full cast of this performance? They're all so phenomenal!!!
Jeremy Jordan and Laura Benanti starred as Leo and Lucille, with Ramin Karimloo as Tom, Joshua Henry as Jim, Andy Mientus as Britt, Emerson Steele as Mary, Katie Rose Clarke as Mrs. Phagan, John Ellison Conlee as Hugh, Davis Gaines as Judge Roan/Old Soldier and Alan Campbell as Governor Slaton.
Additional overlapping lyrics at 42:12: "On top of all o' that Right there where you just sat I saw him eat a cat! I know it, yes! I seen it, yes! etc" "He followed me last week He liked my dress, that freak From Velda Jane's boutique I know it, yes! I seen it, yes! etc"
Thank you so, so much for putting this together! As a non-native English speaker with sensory processing issues, subtitles are so helpful. I'm interested in translating this production to Vietnamese. Would you be willing to send me the subtitles file? Looking forward to hearing from you!
When the show transferred to the Donmar Warehouse in London, some changes were made which sort of stuck around for later future productions. They also swapped out "People of Atlanta" for the new song, "Hammer of Justice" (personally speaking, while I'm fine with most of the changes, I like "People of Atlanta" a lot better 🤷♀)
@@itamarolmert3549 Wrong. Most Jewish historical revisionists want you to believe it was Jim Conley but the publicly available court records and notes from investigators show otherwise.
Whoever captioned this was absolutely wrong about the use of the n-word. The actors say "niggra," and is written that way in the script as well. Captioning it with the n-word with an "er" at the end is inaccurate to the script. Source: I've played Minola McKnight and I still own the full script.
There have been several professional productions. I'm sure some have opted for the "er" and some haven't. I know there were several dialogue changes made for the London production.
@@LifeOutsideTheBubble Enlighten me then. I work in the industry and Parade is an industry favorite. I've never been made aware of any controversy surrounding the name.

Alfred Uhry, the writer of "Driving Miss Daisy" one of the best writers of small bits of southern anti-semitism. It won Tonys, this work but among old southern Jews, Leo Frank's name and cause still cause fear.
@@tntbandit5 anti-semites ARE racists, plain and simple.
I've just watched this musical for the first time and the ending really broke my heart. I just couldn't believe that they really killed an innocent man, I kept thinking that thered be a moment where he'd be saved, but no. It's so powerful because it shows such an ugly truth.
Christ on a cracker, when the orchestra cuts out at 7:10 and everyone sings "home", I can't even begin to explain the emotion it invokes.
literallt the best ever performance of come up to my office holy shit his voice is so so so strong and clear and amazing
Thank you for putting this together! I've spent what 15 years with this show in my ears (mostly Lara Pulver and Bertie Carvel version) but I still can't help but cry at the end. Also, I didn't know Jason was also a conductor. A man of many talents!
Most underrated musical ever ❤️
Jeremy with his glasses looks so much like the real Leo Frank
Jason's very last cut off just ....... FLOORED me!!!!!!!! I MEAN............
omg imagine being there in person for 6:12
Also at 2:14:07
I was in the chorus of the show! I'm way at the back so you really can't see me, but I literally started sobbing during the finale. There's no way of capturing the power of 300 voices on video. Truly one of the most amazing nights of my life.
I was super lucky to attend this performance on my trip from Australia :) Once in a lifetime performance!
This brought back memories from watching it years ago at Lincoln Center
SPEECHLESS! Absolutely speechless!!!

Thank you! This whole show, but especially this song gives me such complicated feelings. It's such a good song and Joshua Henry does AMAZING, but the topic is so tragic.
Ooooo this higher key for All the Wasted Time is interesting
Thank you for this. Wow. What a cast.
It’s the half-assed sweeping for me. 😂 love JH
Josh Henry’s feel the rain fall is just ridiculous. What a voice.
The funeral is my favorite song!
Joshua henry should play every role ever
100% for the sake of the nation!
@@williamfancher200 Thank you immensely!!!
I always have a big cry starting at 26:23. And then really lose it when the mother falls on her knees.
Whoever played jim was fantastic
No, it’s fine. I wanted to cry.
This makes my heart hurt

Please exist any chance for upload the archive subtitle, I ask to translate them into my language with the respective credit.
Just finished this and I am so depressed and traumatized
Additional overlapping lyrics at 42:12:
"On top of all o' that
Right there where you just sat
I saw him eat a cat!
I know it, yes! I seen it, yes! etc"
"He followed me last week
He liked my dress, that freak
From Velda Jane's boutique
I know it, yes! I seen it, yes! etc"
01:36:22 there will never be a better rendition than this one.
Oooo that’s original Broadway and Los Angeles Joe Gillis (Sunset Blvd) Alan Campbell as Governor Slaton! Love that
Thank you for this !
Why can’t I get this song out of my head? 54:30
Joshua Henry stopped the damn show... TWICE ❤
Do my eyes decieve me, or is that truly Ramin Karimloo I see?😆
i had to google the cast for this concert, bc i, too, was doubting myself if i'm really seeing ramin karimloo here. 😂
your eyes dont decieve you! i saw it and wondered the same thing
the funny part is that he is playing one of the most racist characters in the whole show and he himself is a poc
Though I'm a big fan, he was messy here.
Living on a farm is my dream !!!
DID HE NOT DO IT????? IM SO CONFUSED BUT THAT WAS AMAZING
No one's mentioning Ramin just casually *in the ensemble*
Thank you so, so much for putting this together! As a non-native English speaker with sensory processing issues, subtitles are so helpful.
I'm interested in translating this production to Vietnamese. Would you be willing to send me the subtitles file? Looking forward to hearing from you!
please!
Picnic in the country
Who is the older soldier in the opening??! Wow!
why is everyone on book?
It was a concert performance instead of a full musical, so they had less preparation and used their books to keep track.

Do you actually think you have 3 videos hidden ? As in I can’t entertain myself
It's almost as if Leo has split personality. Like Norman Bates from Pshyco
Who sang the young soldier in the opening here?
Charlie Franklin! The best Young Soldier in my opinion.
Who plays ms Phagan? I neeed to know!
Katie Rose Clarke
Does anyone know why the dialogue is different from the original broadway production at points?
When the show transferred to the Donmar Warehouse in London, some changes were made which sort of stuck around for later future productions. They also swapped out "People of Atlanta" for the new song, "Hammer of Justice" (personally speaking, while I'm fine with most of the changes, I like "People of Atlanta" a lot better 🤷♀)

The musical implies it was Jim, but in real life we don't know for sure.
@@lancer2997 ah okay ^^ thank you so much :3
most historians think it was Jim Conley
Frankie
@@itamarolmert3549 Wrong. Most Jewish historical revisionists want you to believe it was Jim Conley but the publicly available court records and notes from investigators show otherwise.
do my eyes deceive me or is that Ramin Karimloo
He's ramin karimloo

Whoever captioned this was absolutely wrong about the use of the n-word. The actors say "niggra," and is written that way in the script as well. Captioning it with the n-word with an "er" at the end is inaccurate to the script. Source: I've played Minola McKnight and I still own the full script.
There have been several professional productions. I'm sure some have opted for the "er" and some haven't. I know there were several dialogue changes made for the London production.
If only they had named it anything but parade.
I think it's pretty apt. And there's 3 parades in the show.
@@marspowr I think you're misunderstanding the historical problem the title has made for the show.
@@LifeOutsideTheBubble Enlighten me then. I work in the industry and Parade is an industry favorite. I've never been made aware of any controversy surrounding the name.
@@marspowr It created an expectation among unsuspecting audience members that it was light fare.
@@LifeOutsideTheBubble Oh, I don’t see any issue with that. Especially nowadays when a brief plot synopsis is just a google away.
After seeing this I looked that case up, it doesn't make sense, knowing the time frame, knowing the attitude of someone wealthy, I would bet he did it. I know they blamed a black guy but nope don't believe at that time frame a black man would do that..
1:08:19 is nobody gonna talk about this part?!
