Although it worked in the scene, aka, he derailed the train, personally I'd have done it a bit differently. I'd have backed the tank up to the right side tunnel portal concrete, and left the tank on an angle. As the train hits it not only would it derail it, it would throw it off hard to the left. Slightly unrealistic that the tank would fall into thirds like it did in the shot when the whole base of the unit is cast and welded fabrication (it's a movie I get it) but with that solid of a base frame that locomotive would be like a pool ball bouncing to the left and peeling the rest of the train with it. This would have meant that instead of the train stopping inline on the tracks, it would have likely been accordianed into the tunnel thus making helicopter escape impossible. I know it's a movie, but I always thought about that scene.
@@victortan3627 and yet those moronic gender idiots and feminists would still be those days all over this and claiming that she is abused, raped and assaulted and that Bond is a pig... Shame on what happened to our society.
The only issue I had with this scene was Ourumov's death. I just recently rewatched the movie after a long time, and not only did he feel underutilized, but I somehow missed his death until I was at the climax and wondering "Wait. Where's Ourumov?"
Yeah, that's always been my major bugbear with the film. Ourumov should have been killed by Trevelyan or Xenia rather than simply gunned down by Bond. They wasted a really good character arc in Ourumov realising that Trevelyan, being a Lienz Cossack, is liable to double-cross him and sabotaging part of Trevelyan's operation at a crucial moment, only to be executed on the spot for his betrayal. Would be interesting to see an "evil Commie" archetype be given a bit more depth and complexity, pulling a heel-face turn at the last minute only to die as a result.
It's likely intentional. Ourumov had political motivations and preferred power over money (hence the "next iron man of Russia" monikor) which was what he was promised as part of his participation in the crime syndicate. Russia at the time of film's release still had a popular Communist Party that - in 1995 - was polling ahead of incumbent Yeltsin's candidature for the presidency. Ourumov might have been a deliberate parallel for any political desire for the return of an autocratic Soviet system and therefore the potential return of the Cold War. But this film shows Ourumov and his political motiviations to have been nothing more than a tool to be used by Trevelyan, and you can see that fellow ex-Soviet Onatopp doesn't care what happens to him either. (Next election was a year later in 1996, Yeltsin's polling put him as low as 5th but tl;dr his campaign tactics were changed and he beat the Communist Party candidate by a couple of million votes.)
I see both sides of the argument. On the one hand, our focus is supposed to have shifted away from him to Trevelyan at this point. But on the other hand, we'd had Ourumov as a villain since before the theme song played and to have him just get shot without even seeing him fall down (much less his body) is kind of underwhelming. I feel like they could've had their pie and eaten it too by adding like a 20 second shot of him wounded and trying in vain to get off the train before it blew up or something. I felt the same way when Bane was killed in "Dark Knight Rises."
I saw a poster for it, massive poster that took up a whole wall, it looked so good. But I was there with my aunt to see another film, a stupid comedy about a beluga whale. Fuck sake

Ian Fleming is a genius!!!!!!
Back in 98, I played the game first, I later watched Tomorrow Never Dies, and then a few months later, I watched GoldenEye the movie. I then started watching the classic bond films.
Brosnan's performance in this film is great, and is actually a good lesson for any Bond actor. While Craig, Dalton and Lazenby had their moments of emotion, much of the time with the character it's better to try and be as understated as possible. Compare this to The World is Not Enough where the direction and Brosnan's acting requires him to be much more dramatic (the scene where he confronts Elektra and says "he knew about my shoulder, he knew where to hurt me" in the oddest, most soap opera-esque way possible is a good example) and you can see the difference.
I always say, Craig's character started with Brosnan. A ruthless maniac that just doesn't let go of his target like some bloodhound, a man who's extremely destructive, he also portrays a ton of western ego now that Soviets were down and the ''greatest enemy'' is subdued and all. But it was 90's and most Bond movies of this era were just cheesy. With Daniel Craig, they relied more on cinematography, made Bond movies artistically better, and explored Bond himself more
Brosnan had two great films Goldeneye and the World is not Enough. Craig is a terrible bond too gulliable, everyone plays him. Trevelyan with the exception of GoldFinger is the best Bond Villain
The bit where James kills Ourumov and makes that daring escape from the train with Natalya before the bomb explodes is always my favourite scene from the film. I learnt more about that scene after playing the Video Game version on the Nintendo 64 where you kill Ourumov and use the Watch Laser to cut the hole to escape from the carriage of that Missile Train. When I see James use the Watch Laser to cut that hole on that carriage they're in I'm like "Ah Yes, I remember doing this in the Video Game version, Cool!"

Its not like they have any other options but to stay at speed and ram the tank. JB would otherwise just keep shooting the tank-gun until the train is stuck.
Considering that the Train is sporting a 5 ton sharp nose made of solid iron traveling at 35 - 40 mph, ramming a Tank is not so very bad as long as you are not inside it. Watch a Diesel Locomotive hauling 100 plus loaded freight cars, and you get the idea of the power and build necessary to achieve such a feat.
@@TheLordexilius That being said though, Bond would have been better off shooting the rails in front of the train and then moving out of the way. That way he gets to keep the tank and he de-rails the train.
@@Extra-dg7uv I was going to say that as well, a shot at the rail would do way more than getting hit by 350 ton of train at 50 mph... The lead unit is some kind of EMD switcher, probably a 1500 HP unit, 125 ton, each car is another 65-85 ton being passenger cars, then figure something for armor plating... Yeah, i'd definitely take the track before i'd put 50 ton of tank at a 7 to 1 weight disadvantage...

He ran (it's call moving fast to safety)
Better question. How did Bond get that tank there before the train?
I just realized how fast Bond really is no wonder he has famous speedruns
was the late trevor byfield the driver ? if it was byfeild we was in the bill and other programs
Xenia really liked the idea of derailing
Pure masochist.
2:34 that line is so.......
Funny how a Class 20 has a a K5H on it. I know it’s just a stock sound effect though.
Someone knows their locomotives.
1:51 the train now looks like it's been controlled by the Ghost Rider.
always love train horn!..1:37
Yeah ramming a tank's a great idea!
@@carminemurphy1275 don’t those usually have like 3 or more literally backing them up?
1:26 She finds pleasure in everything.
Shes like Morticia Adams
@@JonNoto No, Morticia Adams looks more classy and wise.
@@shubhamverma2632 Truth be told I'd have done either one back in their prime...
Famke played the hell out of her role
6:32 that was an explosive cigar !
Soviet craftsmanship right there, tank blows into pieces from a train hit 😂
the armored train is also soviet craftmanship...
2:01 Halo fans whenever 343 Industries breathes.
Yessss🤌🏼
tank beat train!
Xenia is really dangerous. She looks almost excited about the fact that she could meet Bond again. I wonder how things would go if they were on the same side. Maybe she will be keen on playing with Bond again and again
Goldeneye taught me everything I know about hacking. Which is you can spike people, as long as they don't spike you first
The most favorite opening scene i like
1:26 - "He's going to deeeerail usss" - that Russian accent by Famke
