I didn’t realize how hard it is to get into Cybersecurity. Having MBA or Master in Cybersecurity and 4 certifications don’t mean anything unless you have a wealth of experience. I just tapped out and going back to law enforcement.. Good luck everyone hopefully you have better success than me .

who did you dirty and didn’t tell you during your degree plan that every semester or college year you need an internship to build up the minimum 2 years of experience?

The NEW Google Cybersecurity Certificate was just released the other day. From what I hear, there’s hands-on projects in it. I’m finishing my Google IT Certification and then I’m gonna start the Cybersecurity one.
It would be awesome if you could give a review of it. 😊

Isn't the point of Certification for prospective employers to notice? While I agree that it doesn't necessarily translate to actual experience or "knowing" but it does promote that you are disciplined enough to commit to learning. I'm currently doing a government funded course where the content was collaborated with prospective employers that visit or query during the course (so I was told).
Anyway, we'll see how it goes but it the meantime, I'm using ChatGPT and Bard AI to learn and take notes from.

Nicole, I do like your ideas on building projects and getting hands on practice to actually learn information. But it seems like you went from one extreme: get all the certs, to the other extreme: only do projects. Have you considered a more mixed approach? I agree that if you have 2 candidates and one has a bunch of projects under their belt, the project person will probably be more knowledgeable. But there are two things to consider: 1. Jobs won't even let you pass the AI resume scan unless you check off at least some of the min cert/ bachelor's requirements. 2. Although an academic education in school or with a cert might not make you ready to deep dive into a subject, it gets you familiar with what the subject means. For example I work in an area adjacent to Active Directory right now. I didn't understand it at all, then I took the Google IT Support professional cert and that background knowledge gave me so much context, that now I'm much better at my job. What do you think?

Hi Nicole Enesse, I just finished watching your video. As a student with no prior experience in the field, I now have a clear idea of what skills and projects I need to focus on to gain knowledge and build my resume. I also appreciate you sharing your old resume, as it gave me insight on what should be highlighted on my own resume.
I am considering starting my own UA-cam channel to document my learning journey in cybersecurity, but in my native language. Do you think that's a good idea? Thank you for the informative video!

I think alot of us who are not college educated would like a perspective from someone who started from the ground up with no hands in experience. Good luck with your endeavors.

Does your department or dormer employer have a cybersecurity team or division? That could be a great way to get experience while working in a field you already know.

Okay yeah I agree that you learn the most by doing but how do you prove to a hiring manager or HR that you are qualified for the job without the pieces of paper? I feel like if you just claim that you know stuff in your resume you'd get ignored
