tony tonyt Remember all the surgeries kept putting off from 2008-2010? Plus his bad knees hindered him all season yet he played all 82 games because he really wanted to repeat as champion. I’m not giving him and the Lakers a pass, but 2011 was his worst season in 7 years. Plus the Lakers were going through playoff fatigue and rumors were swirling about Phil possibly leaving (which he did) and Pau Gasol trade rumors. There was a lot going on that season.
Dirk was legit, but this NBA finals narrative will always be about how bad prime LeBron James was. Dirk avg 26pts 10rebs on 41% shooting for the finals, which is good no doubt, but I’ve seen a lot of players have better performances in the finals. Jason Terry was the guy who shocked me to be honest. Wade was a top5 player and Bosh was a top10 player who just avg 24 and 11 the season before. Prime LeBron lost to a team with one all star and a bunch of role players. Prime LeBron allowed JJ Barea to guard him sometimes and on the other end he was getting smoked defensively. The ultimate choke job in NBA history. It’s a shame Wades performance gets overlooked, but he was the best player on the court and did his best to carry the team, but when prime LeBron is being outplayed by Jason Terry night in and night out it’s going to be tough.
cyber6sapien nah they beat a Lebron that played soft cause it wasnt his team it was Wade’s, in 2013 he started playing like it was his team & we know what happend that year & the next year
After watching this, I finally realize how the Mavericks beat the Heat: pure strategy. It doesn't matter if ur team is the heavy favorite. If you don't use pure strategy against the underdogs to prove ur superiority like the Heat against the Mavericks, you lose. The Mavericks really did deserve to be the 2011 NBA champions
+Kwame Amparbeng i agree. the mavs looked hungry and dirk knew it was his last chance to win a championship, heck they didnt even have the best roster but they made it work. it was real pleasure to watch them
+Faith in Durant Actually they had a pretty deep roster, their 2nd leading scorer Caron Butler didn't play a single game in their postseason run and they still went all the way while not facing elimination in any series, very impressive.
I’ve always hated super teams. So to see the Mavs sweep the 3-peat touted Lakers and then beat the overhyped Heat in the Finals was amazing to witness. Way to go Dallas! Well deserved Championship.
that Game 6 fade away by Dirk in the 4thQ with Bosh literally all over his face was the most beautiful clutch NBA Finals shots I've ever seen! How in the world did that ball go in!!! Ranks up there with Jordan's game winner in 98, Dr. J's one-handed out-of-bounds around and under the goal layup, Robert Horry's 3 in Detroit in '05, Magic's sky-hook in Boston, Kyrie's 3 in golden State, Vinny's shot over Kersey in Portland, Vernon Maxwell's 3 in 94, Kobe's 3 in '04, and of course Ray Allen's 3 against San Antonio.
He was the worst thing to happen to LeBron. Turned him into a cry baby. Of course if the refs hadn't handed Wade a championship in 2006, maybe he would have stopped that shit.
My favorite quote from Coach Nick in the video, "Both Dwayne Wade and LeBron James took turns shrinking from the moment with plays not befitting their superstar status, perhaps forever severing their comparisons to Michael Jordan" So people please stop with the ridiculous Jordan and LeBron comparisons. Jordan always rose to the occasion in the finals while LeBron completely disappeared in the clutch at the worst time.
Gmac you just talked out of your ass and completely agreed with the dumbest quote of all time from Nick, who, is undeniably biased against LeBron/Wade.
Jay Smoothe It's not like what Coach Nick said was untrue. LeBron completely disappeared at the worst times in the 2011 finals. He had games where he didn't score in the 4th quarter. LeBron has gotten better over the years but disappearing at a critical time was inexcusable, which pretty much destroys any comparison to Jordan. Jordan, nor Bird or Magic never came up so short in the finals. Coach Nick's statement is accurate.
Gmac just because he froze up in one series doesnt completely invalidate LeBron's complete career. Therefore its absurd that Nick thinks 2011 means LeBron will never compare to Jordan.
Coach, throughout this breakdown, I felt like I was back being a 9 year old kid sitting in my bed listening to my Dad read a story to me. You told this Finals saga as a story and it was awesome! I can't wait for your coverage on the draft and the interviews with the players over the summer!
The Dallas Mavericks became the first team in NBA history since the institution of the 2-3-2 format to enter Game 3 tied 1-1, lose Game 3 and still win the Finals. The previous 11 times this has occurred, the Game 3 winner went on to win the series. The Dallas Mavs also made history from this... AWESOME!!!!
Dirk really reserved it. Wade is my fav player, James nr 2, but they didn't deserve it in 2011. But the loss was good, it was the reason why James improved his skills so much and won the championship next season. Also, his personality changed to the positive. It's just a little sad for Wade, he was the best player in the 2011 finals, it was a top 10 finals performance ever! Really, that's not a joke, look it up.
That was a team collapse. Also, LeBron is a much bigger superstar than Curry, Klay, and Draymond. LeBron is a top ten greatest players of all time to say the least, thus making this choke job one of the greatest superstar collapse in the NBA history.
very nice video! shows nearly all big moments in this series from several players. the turnover 3 made by stevenson...charge forced by chandler n of course dirks heroics. great work
I honestly think Dirk had the greatest individual playoff performance I've ever seen. He was just beyond clutch and nearly unstoppable on offense. Also I think this was one of the biggest upsets, if not the biggest in NBA history. Mavs were much older and less athletic.
What? He shot 41% from the field. If LeBron hadn't played the worst series of his career, Dwyane Wade would have won his 2nd Finals MVP (26.5 points per game on 54% shooting.) I love Dirk, but just look at the stats.
EthnHayabusa I don't think he meant statistically... just when it comes to making the right plays for the offense... its arguable... i wont say the greatest performance but its up there
I love this because people FORGET...🤣 Miami really thought they had this series..and I didn’t like when d Wade and LeBron were making fun of dirk when he had the flu..Macs won that game and obviously the SERIES..LEBRON CHOKED FROM GAME 3 on 🤣🤣🤣🤣 GOAT MY MF ASSSSSSSSSS 🙌🏾👌🏾🤓🖖🏾👋🏽🤫
The Heat had one of the lowest assist ratios in the league - close to 53% I believe. We can cut them a little slack because they don't have a post presence who can pass, but 53% is still way too low to win a title. The Mavs led the league in assist ratio. Those Bulls teams of the 90s all had assist ratios of at least 60%.
That may be true however you can't argue that Michael didn't help his team-mates because all the teams would key on Michael giving the rest of his team-mates open shots. And it could not really apply to Kobe as he has 5 rings almost directly from immense individual talent. But yes you could make a point as well.
@23jamesdixon Interesting point. I think dribbling the ball off your foot in the 4th quarter when you're down 10 w/ lots of time left is choking. But I see what you mean and appreciate the distinction you made. Stay tuned - we're interviewing an NBA player tomorrow and will have a great segment up soon afterwards.
This series is the perfect example of how far chemistry can take a team. I have never seen Dwyane Wade take so many bad shots in my life. He was absolutely determined to be the alpha or take the team down with him. And Lebron James with all his talent and skill had the potential to wreck the Dallas defense but he just handed the ball to Wade whenever he wanted it and watched him dribble the possessions away. 1 overaggressive superstar plus 1 choking superstar is a fail formula.
its been a great ride coach, thanks for your videos this season. I'm still down that Bulls didnt make it to face the Mavs - that would have been a classic.
Im interested what you think about the lakers and their new coach. Maybe you could include it in an all inclusive series of videos previewing the 11-12 season. Also you should do a series on basketball drills and exercises like the kind you do with your team, to help us viewers be better players mechanically. Keep up the good work coach!
@ISonbabball I'm not sure - I've got an interview with an NBA player tomorrow, and will be editing that piece ASAP. Let's see if I can get to it. Thanks! Coach Nick
No doubt MJ is the real GOAT. MJ made Pippen and Phil Jackson. He makes his teammates and coach better not like Lechoke He always blame his teammates and make excuses. Pippen is not a star until He came to the Bulls and coach Phil is just an asst coach that time, because of MJ coach Phil become a legend just like Pippen. #MJgoat23 #Lechoke23
great channel thanks for the season coach :) looking forward to the offseason. i hope maybe that you can do some draft vids? offseason trades thoughts for different teams etc.
Whats funny is he was also getting crushed in 2 out of the 3 he won. I dont think dudes ever been comfortable in the finals outside of the thunder series.
@nbafreakycrazy Glad you're happy. It was a great series. Don't miss all our recent posts - lots more coming up this week! A mini documentary w/ Reggie Jackson, OKC's first round pick, a guest breakdown w/ Laker coaching legend Bill Bertka, and a sit down interview with former UCLA asst and head coach Jim Harrick!
Dirk made one of the most legendary playoff performances of all-time. It was a real pleasure to watch

people always forget the mavs beat the heat. they always give the credit to the spurs.. show some love for dallas!
Not only that. The Mavs beat the healthiest version of the Big 3 during that dynasty.
healthiest..but not the best...2013 was their unstoppable run.
maybe its just because its the last year James played for the heat. Spurs made james change teams and it was memorable
cyber6sapien nah they beat a Lebron that played soft cause it wasnt his team it was Wade’s, in 2013 he started playing like it was his team & we know what happend that year & the next year

Lol you sound like a guy who has no idea what he's talking about.
I’ve always hated super teams. So to see the Mavs sweep the 3-peat touted Lakers and then beat the overhyped Heat in the Finals was amazing to witness. Way to go Dallas! Well deserved Championship.
I was soo happy when Dallas won, I am a big Dallas Mavericks fan and they deserved a title. I love LeBron but Dirk earned that win.
its not just dirk. rick carlisle is one of the best in the business

My happiest sports moment ever. Thanks 2011 Mavs and Dirk. Dallas FOREVER
Yes Dwayne Wade flopping when no one touches him is a familiar sight.
He was the worst thing to happen to LeBron. Turned him into a cry baby. Of course if the refs hadn't handed Wade a championship in 2006, maybe he would have stopped that shit.
Been a fan of Dirk and the Mavs ever since.
@Cassacify Thanks! What a great Finals - one of the best of all time!

That was a team collapse. Also, LeBron is a much bigger superstar than Curry, Klay, and Draymond. LeBron is a top ten greatest players of all time to say the least, thus making this choke job one of the greatest superstar collapse in the NBA history.

Objectively speaking LeBron's performance was much worse than Curry's, stardom aside.

Not gona lie, I literally shed a tear... Man, what a run. Hopefully this season can be a success.
@thizizheat4ever I wouldn't say it was boring at all - a consummate team overcoming individual stars that didn't play well together.
Why do i get goosebumps whenever i watch videos about the mavs 2011
always sharp with the detail, thorough but direct. came a long way
very nice video! shows nearly all big moments in this series from several players. the turnover 3 made by stevenson...charge forced by chandler n of course dirks heroics. great work

This was my favorite video yet. Great Job coach!!
actually bryant didnt hit a lot of clutch shots in the playoffs he actually MISSED a lot of shots in the playoffs Shaq DOMINATED in the 3 peat
Dirk has loyalty and the ring.
1:26 I never realized how badly the heat choked in game 2. Mavs went on a 20-5 to run in the last 6 minutes.
This championship feels so much more real and hard earned than last year's ones. Warriors simply have it handed to them with a super team like that...
I like how you recaped the whole series
one of the greatest nba finals

King Slam23 choker. LLLLLL-ebron
LOCKED DOWN BY JJ LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 8 FUCKING POINTS MY G WHO'S TALKING ABOUT THE WARRIORS OR CURRY AHAHAHA
its been a great ride coach, thanks for your videos this season.
I'm still down that Bulls didnt make it to face the Mavs - that would have been a classic.
You ever cried watching someone win it all? I did.
1 year anniversity. On lockout we lost a month. A 1 week in year schedule, and 2 hours if time was told. Happy 1 year champs!
some say LeBron choked. I say dirk just outshines when the lights got bright.

i loved this series
i was one of your first subscribers and man how this channel has expanded
dirk! the only reason i watch nba...
One of the best finals runs of the modern era
True that. How quickly people forget.
thanks coach nick your videos are awesome
I really enjoyed the video, as I am a MAvericks fan/ Nice job. Great video!!!!

That zone D was one of the best all time
was there a single NBA Fan outside of Miami even rooting for the Heat?
I Liked it when Dirk & JET Hugged at the end. They been through it. They deserved it
Dirk was an absolute monster in this series
Lebreakdown. No ref help... this is the true lebron
@ISonbabball I'm not sure - I've got an interview with an NBA player tomorrow, and will be editing that piece ASAP. Let's see if I can get to it.
Thanks!
Coach Nick
The Mavericks run that year was one of the greatest exampled of underdog success ever. The 2016 Finals were a bit crazier, but these came close.
i love you too coach nick !

@Duwert I don't think they will trade anybody, nor should they. They will be contending for several years, and it'll take a little time.
I wish the series was still going on...lol! It was a great Finals, and the highest rated Finals in 14 years!
This was an outcoaching period. Spo made several mistakes, with matchups, player rotations, and offensive scheme. he learned though.
Yeah Heat were outcoached for sure.
well Spo is a terrible coach. The only reason he's considered a "good" coach is because his team does all the work for him
You're a fool. Terrible coaches don't win two Finals.
coach you need to do one of these for all the finals
@inusek For sure - we're shooting tomorrow and it'll have a great topic. Stay tuned!
dirk - one da greatest eva
@bballbreakdown He really stepped his defense up.
Should make one video like this for every final
Yup I was mad at cubes for letting Tyson go but now we got a chance to sign many players with loads of cap space.
great channel thanks for the season coach :) looking forward to the offseason. i hope maybe that you can do some draft vids? offseason trades thoughts for different teams etc.
Dirk is the man
Looking forward to seeing the interviews hoping they will be as good and cliche-less as the one posted sometime ago.
The same way everybody else has. Just Play Lebron in the Finals.... how many times has LeFlopper been Crushed in the Finals? 6 Times?
Whats funny is he was also getting crushed in 2 out of the 3 he won. I dont think dudes ever been comfortable in the finals outside of the thunder series.
3-6 lmao and people say hes GOAT!? GTFO - dude doesn't know greatness.
He’s been the best player every time not his fault his team isn’t as talented as the warriors
@AndiOVai I can't believe it, but Jason Terry completely made me change my mind about him. He was fantastic in this year's playoffs.
Lebron owes wade a finals MVP
+Tyler Riley Wade made some horrendous plays late in games in that series too
Yeah, but with the way that Wade was playing, he would have been finals MVP if they beat the mavericks.
darthrevan6 and Wade came to play. I would be at ease with him making mistakes because he was trying to win.
+Tyler Riley blaming the loss on lebron...basketball is a team game
Wade already has one
@nbafreakycrazy Glad you're happy. It was a great series. Don't miss all our recent posts - lots more coming up this week!
