Watching them stick it to the Heat was one of the most epic runs in sports history... Instead of LeBron they had Shawn Marion. Instead of D-Wade they had Jason Terry and Stevenson. On paper, the Mavs appeared outmatched at basically every position (with the possible exception of their front court). But they played as a team, always, and every single player contributed by scoring a bucket or making a defensive play at a key moment in the game. The NBA Finals used the 2-3-2 format from 1985 to 2013. During that time, 12 series were tied 1-1 after two games. This was the only time during that span that the team that lost Game 3 went on to win the championship.
It’s 2024 and I will never forget this title run. It was my first year out of my parents home, in my first apartment and I had everyone of my good friends at each game through the finals. I will never forget it. MFFL
I saw the big comeback in game 2 live. Miami was celebrating the championship early, but Dallas said "it ain't over til it's over." Came back, and beat'em in Miami! That's where the series turned. Miami was totally shell shocked after that, and couldn't recover.
This is the series that took LeBron out of the GOAT conversation. Going to Miami in the first place really tarnished his legacy but this put the nail in the coffin.
This is still the best run I've seen a single player go on in a postseason in my life. Dirk played the entire playoffs like a man possessed. Big shot after big shot. Mavs really deserved that title.
That time when: 1. Players actually take those long two point Js 2. 100 points take a lot of work to reach and the team who score 100 points first usually end up winning the game
This series was the nail in the coffin ⚰ for LeBron for never being able to eclipse Michael Jordan. Never will. Kawhi got him in 2014 and played well enough in 2013. And Kawhi was still young.
Nah, Dirk never was alone that series. The Big Three were soundly defeated by a diverse cast of characters with the German General leading the charge. But that's what all the Mavericks players were: decent roleplayers. Who would you consider the 2nd star on the Mavs that season? Jason Terry? Jason Kidd? Tyson Chandler? Mind you, they did this WITHOUT one of their big scoring weapons in Caron Butler, who missed the playoffs entirely

Dirk is so underrated among all time greats. He’s top 15
No he’s not. This was a great finals run, but that 2007 playoff performance where Dirk was literally the worst guy out of the other 9 guys on the court cost him any chance of being top 15. You can’t be the first 1 seed to lose to an 8 seed, while being the worst guy on the court and be top 15.
@@thatnativeking1333 Lebron has had really bad performances in the playoffs as well. By your logic hes not top 15 lmao. Every player ever has had a really bad performance in the playoffs. its about how you take that loss and move forward that matters. Dirk took that loss and beat the superteam heat in 6 lmao. top 15 all time
@@thatnativeking1333 Yes he is. I saw every game Dirk played in. He wasn't just great in 2011, he didn't have a team around him. If Cuban was as good at team building as Dirk was on the court then Dirk would get the respect he deserves.
top 20
IMO one of the best NBA finals. A solo star with vets goes against a superteam and wins
Heat Spurs 2013 was better
@@MrEOM41 That was a great series for the Spurs.
Wade was the best player for miami in this series just like when they won in 2006
He would've been finals MVP like in 06 if Miami won the series
Tai Akin yes he would be
Facts. Prime Wade was a monster. Sad this was his last full season in his prime before his knees gave out.
To be fair.... Dirk should have won in '06
Hooper's Bloopers yeah too bad Tim Donaghy wasn’t there to award him with 97 free throws in the 2011 series
From 1990-1998, MJ never lost 3 games in a row. That's unheard of. That's nearly impossible to do. LeBron already lost 3 straight games in this series. The Frozen One. Scored 8 points in Game 4. 🤦🏻♂️

Jordan Eludes Defenders, and Three-Game Losing Streaks
And people keep saying that Le3-6 is the GOAT smh
This series still counts as a win for LeBron fans because according to their logic, he made the finals.

Wade would have been the Finals MVP in this series. Lebron prevented it from happening by averaging 17.8 ppg.

What a terrible excuse, lbj just not the goat, if he purposely don’t score and made his team loose just because of that issue, it will put him out of the list for NBA all time greats.

Most heart bumping finals ever....6 games all intense. Imagine Dirk, Tyson, Jj Barrea, Kidd, Carter man good all day they are in same Tim and all ex Allstars in same team agains giant MVP in their prime.
This series is where he lost the G.O.A.T. conversation, D Wade and Bosh in their primes and this series happens.
This title run is one of the most memorable. A true underdog story we all can relate. This is one of the chips that was earned and not given.

The GOAT of choking Leterd on full display for all the world to see !!
This series showed the world why LeBron can’t be mentioned in the same breath as Mike
Facts this is why Jordan is a level above Lebron
@GLENN CHEN yea the problem with that is,that was not Jordan at his prime This was Lebron at his prime and lost against clearly lesser competition, how can you sit there and say that getting destroyed by the mavs is the same as getting destroyed by the show time lakers with absolutely no one in your team, yea this argument doesn’t hold up water, simple fact is Jordan has never choked this hard in any finals not scoring more than 25 points in the entire series against Tyson chandler is definitely a level or two below Jordan.
Just like MJ colapsed multiple times vs Detroit and then vs Orlando in 1995
@@aalexisgabriell no MJ never colapsed. He played great. Find me a series MJ averaged 14 points per game. You wont ve able to. Once you make the finals that means you're good enough to win. The Heat were a better team and they lost. Those Piston teams were better they almost won 3 straight Finals if they didn't get screwed by the refs when they called a foul on Kareems last second shot.
@@alexgonzales6883 Agree most part of your argument, but I don't think Lebron is in his prime in 2011. His age is, but his skill is not.

Dirk's title in 2011 was worth more than any of LeBron's
Facts had them up get his 1st couldn't get job done
Watching them stick it to the Heat was one of the most epic runs in sports history... Instead of LeBron they had Shawn Marion. Instead of D-Wade they had Jason Terry and Stevenson. On paper, the Mavs appeared outmatched at basically every position (with the possible exception of their front court). But they played as a team, always, and every single player contributed by scoring a bucket or making a defensive play at a key moment in the game. In the end, the Mavs beat a better outfit because they complimented each other's strengths, shored up each other's weaknesses, and most importantly played with guts and tenacity every game!
Wade and Dirk were truly fenomenal
Skip taught me this was when
Chosen One = Frozen One
And it shows😂😂😂
Didn't Cuban clear this out for you all. The mavs defended him well. He should've been better but don't forget to give credit where its due.
Isaiah Mc Intosh stop. He could’ve at least gotten in double figures.
@@Isaiah_McIntosh Defended him well by puting JJ Bares on him 😂
@@Isaiah_McIntosh "Defended him well" Yeah, apparently having 6 inches over the guy guarding you puts you in a 6 game scoring drought. 6 for 6 huh? Jordan has been defended well a lot in his career, and never scored less than 20 points in his 35 finals appearances, while LeBron did that 3 times in this series alone. You couldn't stop that man Mike. LeBron seemed to play without a purpose in this series.

Nick Wright: "Michael Jordan lost to the Orlando Magic in 1995!"
MJ never lost as badly as LeBron and swept Orlando the next year.
Lost in 6 to Orlando but Bulls gave them everything. Plus Jordan had only returned like 20 games before the playoffs. Didn't have chemistry with Kukoc, Ron Harper, Steve Kerr, and other Bulls players that weren't there when he left.
MJ was playing baseball back then

Hi Recon Exactly no one brings up the following year sweep 🤣🤣🤣
Kobe got swept by this very same Mavs team the same year!
The whole 2011 Mavs roster locked up a prime LeBum on defense. An out of prime 39 year old Jordan on the Wizards torched them while they were in their prime on different teams.
MJ vs Kidd: 45 points on 16/32 FG, 43 points on 18/30 FG
MJ vs DeShawn Stevenson: 44 points on 17/33 FG

Just look at the stats dammit... Dirk scored all the significant points for the mavs and LeBron on the other hand could lay back and relax from time to time considering the fact that he had Dwade and bosh doing work for him. Pshhh GoAt lmao
Classic Series, better than 2022 Finals, easily !!
Agreed. I’m ngl the 2022 final was boring.
Mavericks in 2011 are similar to Spurs in 2014: full of veterans and much deeper than the Heat. Plus LeBron choked big time vs the Mavs...but Dirk Novitzki, Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Tyson Chandler, Shawn Marion, Caron Butler, Peja Stojakovic, Brandon Haywood, JJ Barea, Deshawn Stevenson that's a very tough and deep team full of big-time veterans
If Lebron plays just a bit better on 4th quarters Wade would've been a 2 time NBA Finals MVP
Very true, sad Lebron & Co. didn't show up to help D Wade
LeChoke, LeBrick, LeManager, is garbage who always needed top tier players (super teams) to win. He will always be KD’s son and Jordan’s (the goat) grandson.

The NBA Finals used the 2-3-2 format from 1985 to 2013. During that time, 12 series were tied 1-1 after two games. This was the only time during that span that the team that lost Game 3 went on to win the championship.

This is the series that took LeBron out of the GOAT conversation. Going to Miami in the first place really tarnished his legacy but this put the nail in the coffin.
"The chosen one became the frozen one"
This is still the best run I've seen a single player go on in a postseason in my life. Dirk played the entire playoffs like a man possessed. Big shot after big shot. Mavs really deserved that title.
Dirk a legend on and off the court.
How many people can actually say they changed the game? Dirk can say that but never would, not his style
*Dirk's free throw shooting was phenomenal*
D Wade was the only reason they even had a chance in this series.
That time when:
1. Players actually take those long two point Js
2. 100 points take a lot of work to reach and the team who score 100 points first usually end up winning the game
Dirk Nowitzki!!!! Mavs for the win!!! 2011 REVENGE COMPLETE!
This series was the nail in the coffin ⚰ for LeBron for never being able to eclipse Michael Jordan. Never will. Kawhi got him in 2014 and played well enough in 2013. And Kawhi was still young.
Why you gotta spam comments
Yea don't even mention the chips he did win. Talking to you, people would actually believe LeBron never won anything.
This is epic because Dirk was alone against Lebron and Wade but his team did a great job
He had Jason Kid and The Jet. I wouldn't say he was alone
Kinda disrespectful that there's no Barea clips.
