  • I am trying to make a vintage dress with one of Trashy Diva's most hard to find prints, Liquor Labels. In Part Two, I actually cut into the vintage tablecloths and make my vintage inspired dress.

    Thank you so much for watching! I had such a great time with this I am now looking for more tablecloths to turn into vintage dresses. Also, I have a whole playlist of my sewing adventures if you enjoyed this video: ua-cam.com/play/PLaG2bBTXx7U7pyiejUIlugJrXqjVsnpXg.html

    I know you live in Florida and this probably isn't a big concern, but maybe it is for your viewers in cold climates. Firxion pen marks DO NOT disappear permanently; they re-apper in the cold (like Northern winter cold). Sometimes they also bleach the fabric slightly (ask me how I know).

      Oh interesting and terrifying. Le sigh... it was too good to be true I guess.

      @nadiasews Рік тому +6

      I experienced this also, not a fan of the frixion pens anymore. The heat from the iron makes the mark disappear however, there is still a ghosted white line where the darker pigment was and depending on the fabric it is visible…ugh…

    I love watching you sew garments. I’ve had the same frustrations over the years and basically gave up. But you have totally motivated me to start up again. I finished an ldproject making g a dress about 10 years ago. Stopped because it was way too big. Unfortunately or fortunately I’ve gained weight since then and it fits yea! Went to Joanna yesterday and bought a bunch of patterns on sale $2.99 each and plan to start some new projects starting with a witch costume Simplicity S9632. Thanks for the inspiration. Wish me luck I’ll need it

    I buy fabric from thrift stores, too. Sometimes I buy bed sheets. I like flannel for nighties using a pullover V-neck pattern with no buttons or fasteners. Less work, less complicated, easy on, easy off. I arrange the pattern pieces along the edges of the sheets to avoid as much as possible the more worn areas. Usually, if I carefully inspect sheets before buying, I can find sheets which aren't hardly worn at all. Also look for stains. Depending on the size, sheets can be purchased in my area for about $5-10, maybe less if it's half price color tag day. Where else can you get fabric to make a nightie for $2.50? The leftover fabric pieces I sew together, add scraps sewn into padding, and make dog and kitty blankets for our local pet shelter. Very little waste, lots of satisfaction. Oh, and don't forget to check estate sales for fabric. A lot of little old ladies hoard fabric a long time and their heirs don't want it and sell it cheap. Thread too.

      Well done. That fabric is darling and the fit is great. It seems the table cloths were well worth the cost for the joy the dress is giving you.

    With your darts, when you get to the end, put a few more stitches in right on the very end of the dart (pointed end) it smoothes in the line of stitches and helps remove the pucker. If they are skirt darts try to iron them over a tailors ham to keep the rounded shape. Bodice darts tend to be straighter so iron them flat.

    I struggled with gathering and then trying to get the gathers just right, and being as lazy as they come, I discovered something that made gathering way easier and that is : elastic thread wound o to the bobbin. I use regular thread at the top with a fairly long stitch length and the elastic in the bobbin at the bobbin. One pass and it gathers perfectly. After you sew it in, you can easily pull out the elastic thread .

    I know you made this a year ago but I'm commenting. When I make a dart I put a pin in at the exact length and spot it is to finish. Of course I tuck the pin in the fabric edge so it doesn't slide out while I'm doing stuff, but when I'm sewing it is singly through and I can hold it to be sure of finishing the fold at that distance, removing only when I get there to finish at that point for the perfect dart.

    I take it was black head rum. Totally support you not wearing those logos and also giving a bit more of a spot for the jom crow museum. I used to be a music major and sure alot of original American music is problematic to modern values but ignoring where we were makes it more likely to happen again in all the worst ways. Bo jangles made way for all modern pop music and rock stars having perennial multi-city tours but doesn't mean that white people wearing cork is ok. It's not.
