- How to Make a Mini Ramp! I built this 22 foot ramp (3' x 8' x 22') mini ramp half-pipe during the great Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020. More details below...
I following along with this guide at DIYSkate (I modified the flat section to be shorter):
diyskate.com/mini_03.html
Total cost: about $750 on the materials at Home Depot. Helpful note, if you are building your own, a cheaper coping pipe to buy is 2" EMT Tubing which is only $25 each 10ft at Home Depot.
Took about a week of building, and a few helpful hands!
I was a really good skater back in the 80's, but, put such childish things away since '89. Now that I'm 49, doing this project (well within my skillset and tool range) is my midlife crisis. "Showing off" your skills at the end is a real inspiration for me to start.
I've been watching a few 'how to build a mini ramp' videos and this one has got to be the best. The size looks perfect. Thanks for sharing your build.
Wow! Thanks for the kind words stranger :)
i know Im asking randomly but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any help you can offer me!
@Peyton Sonny i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process now.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Peyton Sonny It worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Cayden Lance happy to help :)
This is so awesome. I built my first quarter pipe two weeks ago and dream or building a miniramp like this at some point. Lumber prices are crazy right now and I'm trying to figure out if I have the space to build something like this but this video definitely inspires me. Good job mate!
Great video and great inspiration during these times!!!
Thanks!
This is so cool! I really want to build one
Awesome
OG skater from back on the day here.
Nice mini ramp. Looking to build one myself soon!
That looks sick dude keep up the work
Great video man. That's a beautiful ramp that will serve you for years to come. You should do a progress update and reply with a link to it in all the comments here!
literally everyones dream over quarentine
Awesome dude. Nice job!
looks amazing. wanna build it too.. especially loved the lil troll in the end on the board :D
yes awesome ramp, when you inevitably have to replace the masonite try out 1/4 plywood with spar urethane, it’s just better all round just it costs probably 1.5x as much
Looks great
Nice work
Great ramp and video! people don't get how long it really takes to screw on the whole surface
You're so right! Took about 20 hours of just driving screws and breaking bits :D
Good work better it's a blast.
I guess it's time to take down the basketball goal or one of these times you're going to smack right into it lol. Awesome miniramp!
Hey! Great job! It's my dream to have something like this :) It's a chance to get somewhere the exact dimensions of this ramp?
Hey man great vid. I’ve been looking at building this same ramp using the diyskate instructions. Is there anything you did or wish you had done differently from those particular build instructions? Thanks
Cool
nice bro
What is the brown material you used in the end
Hey , what size is the plywood used on the transitions?
Thank You
I am building my ramp I got 1/2 inch plywood but I can't bend to form the transition
Currently building one!
Yo! me too.
yo me too
Covid-19 miniramp gang!
Same here and btw how much did that cost to biuld mini ramp
Doubles as a ball return when shooting hoops
That baby Yoda is on fire!
quick question what type of sheets do u use
curious how the masonite has held up. Have you had to replace it with something like skatelite or gator skin? Would love an update, great build!
We’re you able to use one sheet of plywood for both sides of one quarter?
Great video! Now that its all done, do you wish you went a little wider with the ramp?... or do you find that ur dimensions work well? Curious because I'm thinking of building one for my daughter (who is just learning). Thanks!
Good question! I reduced the flatground portion to be just 6-feet across (instead of 8), I imagine you'd have an easier time if that were wider, yes. More time for your daughter to adjust her feet and balance before going up the other side. If you'd like also, I imagine the ramp would be less intimidating at 2-feet tall (rather than 3 which is in the video), but then you won't have as much room for skill-growth. :)
Omg she would love that!
With roof sheathing I know they say to separate it 1/8".
Do you have to do the same for a skate ramp?
Just thinking about expansion that's all
Hey man! Love the ramp! I’m trying to build one myself and I have a quick question. Where did you get the steel pipes for your coping?
It’s just a galvanized metal coping/pipe. Make sure it’s galvanized to prevent rusting and have a buttery slide. You can find them at Home Depot if you live in the us they sell them for cheaper. I recommend nothing bigger than 2 inches in width. I also recommend using skate lite, which is what he layered on top of the ramp. It’s a go to for the top layer of skate ramps.
Cool vid what wood did you use for the floor and how much would cost
Its called masonite follow the link above it has all the materials there.
Hey Lucas, I can't get the link to work? Do you know if it was updated or do you have the blueprints posted anywhere else?
Hey man, I'm about to follow the same plans. Just wondering, is that masonite you put down? If so, what's your plan to handle the rain? Could you leave out the masonite and skate on the plywood directly?
For anyone who cares, I've built this and skating on the plywood is absolutely fine
I'm with u buddy and damnit I do care!
@@robmcnamara8406 hey, 1 year later how'd it hold up? has the weather taken a toll on it?
@@robmcnamara8406 I’m also curious, did it hold up to the weather. And was was your final price of the whole build?
I'm watching your video from Brazil! Would there be another link available? What is in the description is not working
rad
How much did it cost with the skatelite
Do u have the blueprints for this?
Would you please post the materials list
My son wants to build this
But he will be contributing $$ towards the build and I told him to do the research which is why I’m asking you 😂🤣
I have done most all his builds while he watches
Not anymore LOL
Also I want to use plastic sheeting for the top layer and seal the joints so it will last through weather
Great video thanks
Would love to have the space for this.
what materal do you use
Wow
Did u guys pitch the ramp for water letoff
Quick question, was ur ramp shaky before u layered the plywood?
I had to add vertical 2x4 supports from the top-deck horizontal 2x4 to the bottom horizontal 2x4 (on the far sides of the ramp). Once these were on there, the ramp can't wiggle side to side nearly as easily :)
What did you use for the coping? i cant seem to find the correct dimensions on Home Depot's website?
I think it’s just a galvanised steel pipe
dis is sickk
I’m trying to build my own and I wanna know how much it costs and what you do when it rains? Great video!
Kristo B tarp
When it rains you should cover it with some thicc plastic, as you can see at 3:38. About the price it depends where you live, in Spain is about 1500-3000€ depending on the size
I am currently getting materials together for this exact build? What did u use for the top surface of the ramp and where did you find it?
I used 1/4" Tempered Hardboard bought from Home Depot. (Sometimes called Masonite)
I'll still keep a tarp over it though.
did the coping ever get dings or rust?
How big is the flat section? I was thinking of making mine 4 feet but everyone said it’s too small
I made mine 6 feet to save a little on lumber. Now, I'm wishing I had done the full 8 feet because its a little smoother to ride with more flat. I would recommend the full length if you have the space, if not, you'll love it either way!
quicck question. if the length is 22 inches whats the lenght of the middle part? 6 feet?
Exactly. 6 Feet Flat portion.
How much flat bottom did you guys put in that
I’m having a hard time finding the plans for this, can anyone help?
In retrospect would you have kept the flat length at 8 feet?
seems super long. Gunna have to really pump.
Sweet ramp man! What size radius did you cut?
I followed the link in the description to build an arc that's 3.5" from the bottom. I'm not sure the exact radius of that, been a while since I took trigonometry haha
7 foot. Always use 7ft
How much did this cost about
Huh. How do you ply basketball now? Does the ramp roll away on wheels?
im looking into building a mini ramp with my dad should i make it 10 feet wide or is 8 good
It’s going to be MUCH harder to build one 10’ because most wood comes in 8’. Particularly your plywood
PLEASE share the measurments :)
What is the top layer
What were you brushing on the plywood after you cut it?
That was a mixture of Alex Plus caulk and water - I used it to seal up the edges so that the plywood sides can't split on the ramp due to rain and sun exposure.
Lucas Erb thanks for the reply! I’ll be sure to use this trick when building my ramp!
Are you going to paint the plywood and what would that help with dealing?
@@whatsondurban6913 I didn't paint the top layer because I wanted it to feel smooth. I keep a tarp over it to protect against rain. The layer underneath and the sides of the ramp are painted with 2 coats of Spar Urethane. This keeps this fairly weather proof and prevents water seeping through all the layers of ply underneath !
Hi. Did you use the same transitions (measurements) as in the link. I’m about to do the same build but I don’t know if the 3’ minus the height of the flat section is a little to low. What do you think about the height? I will make it 8’ though instead of 6’
Where can I find the plans for this please?
What was baby yoda skating at the end
Ramp still around?
If a video said "how to ollie," but it was just a clip of someone doing an ollie, how would you feel?
How much did it cost
How much did this project cost
$750
looked rlly good. how much did the materials cost?
Total cost is ~$750 dollars. Everything was bought at Home Depot.
@@lucaserb2493 thx😁
Detail of materials plz
how much did this cost
$750
Too many videos showing build can someone give us examples of measurements , ie radius of the curve and how it should taper.
750 is way more doable than the 5000 Keen and OC want, oh man.
What was the last layer you put on over the plywood?
What’s the length and width?
3' x 8' x 22' - I added a description now which you can see.
@@lucaserb2493 Cool thanks, I'm building one right now with the same plans but making it 20ft long making the flat bottom 4ft.
Did you Masonite for top layer?
@@michaeltherion7459 I will be putting masonite soon. Have you used masonite on a skate ramp before? I'm wondering how I can water proof it.
What is the pipe called
Coping
why is baby yoda there at 4:37 XD lol
That’s the exact same size I’m getting my half pipe 😂
I can see this being expensive, if you dont have the money just take apart a wood palet or two get some scrap wood for the sides some pbc pipe for coping and spend like $25 on playwood make 2 quearter pipes and there you have it cheap!
Baby Yoda "The child
i wonder how cheap this was compared to today
I'm thinking about building one in my living room!?!? 49 recently divorced! WTF
Commentary instead of music would have been nice. Explaining measurements, materials, where you purchased the materials, etc... Didn't help me learn how to make one for myself....
You are not really showing us how, no dimensions or explanations🙁
All that and you can't rock to fakie? bruh
