The most common age group with scoliosis is late-stage adults. However, children are one of the main age groups that present the onset of scoliosis.
Scoliosis in children is labeled under three main categories:
Infantile: These are cases diagnosed between 0 and 2 years of age.
Juvenile: These are children diagnosed between 2 and 12 years of age.
Adolescent: These cases involve patients diagnosed between 12 and 18.
The key to treating scoliosis patients is to address the curve while the child is still small. This approach works by preventing the condition from progressing as the child grows.
Adolescents need to reach adulthood with the smallest curve possible because the condition will progress slower once they become adults.
The traditional treatment approach of watching and waiting fails to consider these factors. Traditional orthopedic doctors recommend their patients come back after a specific amount of time to check how much the curve has progressed.
Another tool used in the traditional method is using scoliosis-specific braces. These braces are designed to squeeze the spine and slow down progression. The issue with this approach is that there are no exercises or tools designed to reduce the curve. The only solution doctors recommend to their patients is to go through surgery once they reach 40 degrees or more.
At Scoliosis Reduction Center, patients receive a tailored treatment plan focused on improving spine mobility and function, improving the patient's life experience and longevity.
This functional treatment plan includes, but is not limited to, scoliosis-specific chiropractic care, scoliosis-specific therapy, and rehabilitation. In addition, patients must do scoliosis-specific home exercises and isometrics.
Some patients may require a corrective-style brace called ScoliBrace. Combining this brace with the corrective exercises mentioned above will reduce the curve as much as possible.
Reaching out to a licensed professional with the right background for scoliosis is recommended. Once a diagnosis is official, it is important to address the misalignment as soon as possible to avoid surgical intervention.

Scoliosis in children is categorized in three ways: infantile, juvenile and adolescent. Dr. Nalda believes the biggest impact treatment can make is at a young age. Intervening with child scoliosis is important because growth immensely affects a curve’s progression. At the Scoliosis Reduction Center, we want to use the proper treatment so a patient is more likely to enter into the adult stage with the smallest curve possible. When a curve is reduced as a child, its progression will slow down as an adult. Dr. Nalda tends to see two types of patients in child cases. One is when their scoliosis diagnosis came before they reached the surgical threshold. Therefore, the goal is to keep their curve below that and work towards a reduction. The other type of patient is the one that followed the orthopedist's advice to watch and wait typically allowing their curve to progress. This requires more intense treatment to get the patient below the surgical threshold.

We understand traveling for treatment can be inconvenient. However, for patients who live too far to visit our Celebration, FL clinic regularly, we offer a specialized intensive care treatment plan. This program condenses the total treatment time but requires a much more intensive schedule while you are at our clinic. This concentrated approach is what allows us to effectively address the progressive nature of scoliosis. Once you complete this in-person treatment phase, you'll receive a personalized home exercise program to maintain the progress you make with us.

My daughter has what they said mild scoliosis. She is 5 years old and also has a syndrome called Desanto-Shinawi syndrome. I took her to orthopedics and they just said that because it’s related to her syndrome they are only going to watch it and will only get a brace if is grows. Which I also thought why not do it now and help prevent it from growing. We are located in NC.
While our clinic is located in Celebration, FL, Dr. Nalda helps patients from all around the world. If you’d like to schedule a consultation with him, we can absolutely do that over the phone.
