I think Elsie is right, just not right now... Eris isn't going to betray us before defeating the Witness but she is ABSOLUTELY being setup as a future threat after The Final Shape.
Eros will NEVER betray us. WE "THE GUARDIAN of Guardians" didn't exist in any of those other timelines. That's why everything has changed and enemies been slain. Because WE are the anomaly, WE are the reason we won't fail and WE arte the reason that Eris will succeed and not fall to temptation. Is and the Drifter, Mara and the Vanguard, we are all her anchor and give her purlose
Honestly after everything Eris has suffered, and scrutiny from characters in-game/the Destiny community they'd better not. Eris turning out to be the evil traitor everyone believed she was from the start would be a pretty shit character arc.
fucking agreed, if they have the gall to go that route with her after all these YEARS of setting up her redemption arc (from her fireteam death in the hellmouth) they will lose a lot of people me included
The biggest heroes and villains are made thru suffering. Whatever she becomes will be based on if that person has the right support. If she loses Drifter, she will drift into the darkness
You gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss gazes back. All it takes is one mistake for Eris to swear vengeance on us. Be a shame if something were to happen to Drifter.
The creepiest thing that happened to me this season, by far, was a cutscene/dialog with Eris in her transformation. Something caught my eyes and ears and I thought, "Is Eris grinning?!". Later, I was reading a new lore page and it was the lore at 17:35 about Elsie talking about Eris smiling. Chills went down my back when I realized I was right. I don't know how bungie does it. To portray a devilish smile behind a mask through only voice and animation.
Im hoping Eris finds utter grace after all this torment, transformation, and chaos. I hope to see a truly revived, relieved, and free Eris on par with the darkness she has endured.
The plot twist this season is obviously going to be that the "My Queen" Eris referred too when she says "the whispers have stopped" in the Taken King Cutscene after Oryx takes himself, was Savathun all along. Eris has always been a double agent under Savathun since her fireteam were slain by Crota's brood, Toland tried to warn us but the problem with speaking in riddles is they often sound like you're talking about someone else.
No the main topic but I get a good chuckle everytime I hear that recording of Savathun scolding Xivu, "What a vain child you are! Not everyone wants to be like YOU"
I’ve already been thinking what Elise basically said. This might not be the the dark timeline she came from verbatim, but, it’s almost becoming the butterfly effect of it. Different people have died, different powers have risen, traveler in different danger, but things still leading to Eris gaining a massive power somehow
I think a fun way to go with the writing on this is for Eris not to betray us, but for her to stay as a Hive God, declaring that we've always had a Hive ally... Her body just reflects that now.
My favorite part of this entire thing and the video was the excellent in game cutscene you you got the thumbnail from. I really enjoy watching all these etremely pivotal story beats being put in the game in a digestable format for everyone and not being hidden away in lore entries ❤❤❤
Its truly impressive when you think Eris could wield the full power of the hive, and by proxy the darkness whilst wielding an ahamkaras bone for wishing purposes so permanently equal to Savathun(when she made the one wish it was the biggest L we took aside from the Red War and she had full anonymity aside from a relatively weak Eris)even without any progress or training in the darkness magic, AND is a guardian so she could revive her ghost to give her abilities back alongside the light and go through the portal to confront the witness with her knowledge and experience. Talk about a nightmare matchup and that's not including how she prob took advantage of all of their trust got the jump on each of them where they were weak.
In shadow keep, the hive in the pit of heresy dungeon were convinced she was the catalyst of Oryx, Oryx incarnate. She is currently carrying out what Oryx wanted us to do. “Navigating” us towards the final shape. The first navigator never died, they were replaced
Even if I think it's silly when IRL players think Eris will become evil, I LOVE that this conflict exists in the story. When Crow was revealed to the characters, everything was way too casual. I like that characters have flaws and disagreements with Eris.
I've always wondered what happened to the witness in the dark future, if his goal the entire time is to use the traveler to rewrite existence why would he even allow eris to carry out her plan in the dark timeline? In the grand scheme, I know it doesn't really matter, but I would like to know nonetheless.
Beautiful video! There is a lot to think about. I'm now conflicted on how I feel about Eris. She is one of my favorite characters, and knowing that she could become corrupted is unnerving.
Eris becoming a conduit of darkness and enslaving Savathun is the beginning of the end for every timeline Elsie has jumped to. But she's already commented that things are so different in this timeline where we survive, I'm surprised she's not willing to bet it all on us by now. Like, in her dark timelines we didn't have Ahsa, we didn't have Rasputin's legacy, Savathun wasn't able to turn to the light, we didn't have the Veil, (we didn't have Mara's secret baby Ahamkhara that she still hasn't officially told us about,) we didn't have very much at all besides like... Stasis and a replica of Ghaul' light draining device.

Just some people noticed from Forsaken when we hunt down the corrupted Ahamkara eggs to destroy them all we learned what they looked like, and then in Season of the Lost you could find a corrupted Ahamkara egg undestroyed hidden in Mara's room. And like, we know how to un-corrupt Taken things now but there might be a reason she's leaving it corrupted.
@@TheWaitingFlame01 I got excited by this week's holoprojector dialogues because they just brought up how Mara explained Ahsa's powers by alikening them to Ahamkara, so Mara and Ahamkara are fresh on the minds of the writers.
I like the idea of Eris getting stuck in her new form, but not losing herself, and maybe finally letting go of the sword logic to try and firther herself from the hive god she's become.

It’s so weird because I thought over the past two years we’ve kind of learned that no species, subclass, or character is evil. It’s like Captain Kirk. Not everyone would say he’s a hero or always done the best thing for Starfleet, the Federation, or even humanity. The Exo Stranger could be considered evil for keeping us in the dark for 10 years or whatever.
It’s super interesting to see everyone be 50/50 on what’s going to happen with Eris. I personally don’t believe she’s going to die, but surely something happens with her. Some people are pointing out that she isn’t in the Final Shape trailer, but so isn’t like over half of our cast we know right now.
Hey Myelin could you talk about the lore entry where different characters (Drifter, Zavala, Mithrax) draw a card from the deck of whispers. I believe it was in Rites of Passage 3 Auspices. It seemed interesting as to what each card they drew meant if it meant anything of course.
It's just that; even if Eris was doing all of this for revenge, she's also sacrificed so much for the good of humanity. She helped us through our nightmares on the moon, and helped our friends do the same during season of the haunted. She's been nothing but put upon and yet gentle. Never once has she complained about her station. I hope that she gets a break soon and is allowed to let her relationships flourish after all this. If anyone deserves it, it's our dark vanguard.
I have questions: What is happening to Misraaks? First numbness in arm/wrist, then now spread through his chest. Is he having a health event? How many hearts do Elinski have? Will Drifter or Spider be Eido's new Daddy? Or did the Nezcafe have some sort of thing that Nezarec's (or the poison/curse from Savathûn from when she killed him) power/consciousness doing some sort of mutation? Corrupt the body and mind to darkness? Or take control of body?
The lore is hinting at her making a throne world. So maybe we have to put her down but she's not dead dead. For the time being. Post- final shape has stuff about the hive, maybe we "deal with" her in whatever way then.
Myelin I know you cover this lore 7 years ago but I think you really need to review it again it is the Alpha Lupi lore from D1 It has some of the foreshadowing coming true perhaps it can also give us hint about TFS finally or lore please 🥺

She starts to snap, but Drifter turns up, talks to her, says something moving and calling her Moondust (or her real/full name since they don't really use them) and she snaps out of it. When Xivu sees Eris is rejecting the position of her brother's throne, she flips. We then have a proper battle with Xivu with Eris and Ahsa running support in some way to help us take her out. After it's done, Elsie is relieved. They remember those who were lost. Especially Eris to her fireteam friends that died. They bring Imaru to resurrect Savathun.
As I've mentioned on byfs videos about eris I'll say on other videos I fully trust eris when she does something she does it with humanity in mind If there's anyone I trust to understake a risk it's eris plus in our timeline many things aren't like that 1. We didn't fail with stasis, the black heart 2. She has people who care about her 3.elsie and Ana have a healthy relationship
I understand why they're all fearful. There's even literally a precedent already set for this exact situation. But I can't say I'm not loving it. I've always wanted the option to be a dark guardian or something similar and this is the closest I'm gonna get. So I'm gonna enjoy this to the fullest and live vicariously through Eris for now I also hope she betrays us and does fall just because it would be way more interesting narratively than the classic "Things are looking bad" -> "oh wait everything's okay again because the season is over"
I haven’t heard this angle but this is all I think about when I listen to Lore videos… hear me out, what if we’re the bad guys on accident the whole time? Traveler Revived Nez, he’s a psycho so he wanted to give us a fade, we won which prevent Nez from helping the traveler. ( no more life = no more fear, meaning a weak Nezarec ) Our ghost granted witness access to the veil. Bungie announced the Vex will be the next big threat after this, theirs some futuristic Vex in this season’s seasonal modes. Whose to say, we lose in the final shape story, time travel and redo the fight with the witness? That’s Elsie’s thing, if she can why can’t we? Also, it’ll set up Vex and timeline threats, also the 9 would look at it as a taboo and we’d have real beef with Mara. She always hinted if we went against her she’ll destroy us.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Eris turns at some point. I've been wary of her ever since Taken King. When she touches Oryx's sword after his defeat in the campaign, the way she reacted and spoke seemed very questionable.
Destiny 2 Siblings are very important, I believe Elsie will turn herself Evil. That will be the Only way to Stop her Infinte Loop and also it will prevent anyone else to Turn Evil in this Timeline, she only has to realise that she has to become the necessary Evil before anyone else she knows becomes Evil
I believe Eris going dark side should not be counted as a betrayal, it wouldn't be through a place of wanting to betray but just nature running its course. That's why IMO, Elsie's concerns are justified. Now the million dollar question is "will this timeline Eris follow through her natural course of action or will she be stronger because we're here?"
I mean we guardians have ended 3 Hive gods, taken a hive worm and made it a weapon, and an Ahamkara. Not to mention billions of lower level hive, fallen, cabal and vex
Eris reveling in violence is supposed to make us worried for her? Guardians put the Hive to shame in our adherence to the sword logic. We can hardly wait for Xivu to get close enough for us to make her into a gun.
Hey myelin i have a question if oryx was close with the witness why didnt the pyramid ships come running after his death, surely the witness would have thought the traveler was begininng to heal after its hive champion was slain
Because he wasn’t close to the Witness. The hive pantheon didn’t even know they were ultimately swindled into the role they were and their gods weren’t gods at all. The Witness sent Rhulk to their planet to get the worm gods to offer them the deals or else. They learned about the Witness later after Oryx death. Before that, they thought the worm gods, traveler, and themselves were the ultimate powers that be.
Eris does not have unchecked power… we are the check. And a few hive gods have run afoul of that check and are now sitting in the vaults of guardians, waiting for a change in the meta.
I think we're gonna bring savathick back, kill Xivu. Then savathun will become a non entity (prison, death side swap or leave) And Eris will disappear taking the hive with her. At some point, post final shape, a new hive god will start making waves. Someone we recognise
With an episode named heresy I actually think a close character will betray us. So it wouldn't surprise me if it's eris or the Queen. It may be purposeful or accidental but that's what I see. That's just my own opinion though. I'm not majorly invested in the lore so I may be way off.

this is nothing new. The vanguard and company has always been weary of Eris, but were completely oblivious of Osiris when Savathun was controlling him. I think Eris will die at the hand of the Guardian, but only after she takes down Xivu Arath and chooses to not live in full Hive form.

Rahul should be the last person to warm anyone of evil things. He and Eververse are the most evil thing since the Hive were first born.

I also hope she betrays us and does fall just because it would be way more interesting narratively than the classic "Things are looking bad" -> "oh wait everything's okay again because the season is over"

Traveler Revived Nez, he’s a psycho so he wanted to give us a fade, we won which prevent Nez from helping the traveler. ( no more life = no more fear, meaning a weak Nezarec )

Whose to say, we lose in the final shape story, time travel and redo the fight with the witness?
That’s Elsie’s thing, if she can why can’t we? Also, it’ll set up Vex and timeline threats, also the 9 would look at it as a taboo and we’d have real beef with Mara. She always hinted if we went against her she’ll destroy us.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Eris turns at some point. I've been wary of her ever since Taken King. When she touches Oryx's sword after his defeat in the campaign, the way she reacted and spoke seemed very questionable.
Destiny 2 Siblings are very important, I believe Elsie will turn herself Evil. That will be the Only way to Stop her Infinte Loop and also it will prevent anyone else to Turn Evil in this Timeline, she only has to realise that she has to become the necessary Evil before anyone else she knows becomes Evil
I believe Eris going dark side should not be counted as a betrayal, it wouldn't be through a place of wanting to betray but just nature running its course. That's why IMO, Elsie's concerns are justified.
Now the million dollar question is "will this timeline Eris follow through her natural course of action or will she be stronger because we're here?"
I feel bad that no one really trust Eris, pushing people away even from fear can be a good way to make their condition worse. Also love the content :)

I mean we guardians have ended 3 Hive gods, taken a hive worm and made it a weapon, and an Ahamkara. Not to mention billions of lower level hive, fallen, cabal and vex
I really hope Eris could continue The Hive legacy and stays as another Hive God on their pantheon

Because he wasn’t close to the Witness. The hive pantheon didn’t even know they were ultimately swindled into the role they were and their gods weren’t gods at all. The Witness sent Rhulk to their planet to get the worm gods to offer them the deals or else. They learned about the Witness later after Oryx death. Before that, they thought the worm gods, traveler, and themselves were the ultimate powers that be.

Eris does not have unchecked power… we are the check. And a few hive gods have run afoul of that check and are now sitting in the vaults of guardians, waiting for a change in the meta.
She can’t really betray us because her power is based on vengeance she did this so she couldn’t betray us

With an episode named heresy I actually think a close character will betray us. So it wouldn't surprise me if it's eris or the Queen. It may be purposeful or accidental but that's what I see. That's just my own opinion though. I'm not majorly invested in the lore so I may be way off.

this is nothing new. The vanguard and company has always been weary of Eris, but were completely oblivious of Osiris when Savathun was controlling him. I think Eris will die at the hand of the Guardian, but only after she takes down Xivu Arath and chooses to not live in full Hive form.

If we really think about this, eris is just hulk and the final shape is endgame, everyone is scared of hulk but he still helps our humanity. Eris is humanitie’s personal hive god do obviously we’d be scared of her
