A dealership mechanic finding a permanent fix for a design issue. That is less expensive than just replacing it with a OE part. That's unheard of and why David has always been my go to guy for Mopar!
Part #'s, torque specs, simple instruction and tools needed for the job.
Think im gonna change mine out just to keep it from failing at the worst possible time. Thanks again David!

Great repair! In addition, there is no need to cut the hoses. Just clip the plastic ring clamps with side cutters and they pop right off. There are holes on the ring clamps for this purpose.

    • @MotorCityMechanic

    • @pierotdavis1255
      @pierotdavis1255 2 роки тому

Sorry I have not gotten back to you but for one on my dodge charger there is a vacuum line that seems to rout from the drivers side of the engine going around to the front of the engine that is not connected. I notice that after I had new coils installed and tuned up. At times the check engine light comes on and when I step on the gas to speed up my car starts to stall. If I let up on the pedal it will come back into power if I slowly accelerate. When the check engine light is off you can accelerate without any issue.

I'm doing this exact upgrade on a 2.4 Dodge Dart with a plastic tee on the upper hose that keeps leaking and I don't want to constantly drain coolant and dig around in that cramped space just to keep replacing one piece of planned obsolescence. For anyone else sick of dealing with this on their 2.0 & 2.4 Darts, the piece I'm using is a SharkBite UC08414128 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1". I plan on doing this same upgrade to the two tees on the lower hose too when it inevitably starts giving me hassle but be warned, these brass tees are around $50 a piece. Buy once cry once certainly applies here.

Fine outcome. But I would advise everyone who watches these videos, Not to cut the hose, but the 1-1/4" abs clamps. This would ensure you the proper size hose. In other words, cut the black plastic clamps carefully thru the middle, (I used dremel tool w/ cutting blade) without cutting into the hose material. Also, Never use those "Screw-type" clamps, use original pressure-adjusting clamps. Mechanics would know, that all these heat channeling hoses expand, and the clamp needs to expand with them. That's why this design

Hey David, saw your video on the 2013 3.6L Chrysler 300. I have a 2013 RT Charger (Daytona, but still a 5.7L). I have a leak from my upper heater hose, and my immediate thought is I can fix my issue the same way.
How should I go about fixing it? I can't drive it to the dealership (it'll def. overheat) and the Firestone across the street is charging $500+. I'm sure this is an < $50 fix....
    Thanks for your help.

My problem was one of the “y” fitting, but this was the first video that had a good enough quality to show me MY problem (real similar). Unfortunately bleeding the line is kinda right where this project is above my comfort level. Thank you!

Will this work for 5.7 300c?

Great job! I'm curious if a Sharkbite tee would've worked? Just slip it on and forget it! Not sure if it would've worked with hose wall diameter...but something to think about!

I did similar to my 2008 TaC 4 years back from copper tee and pipes..Just added rings from compression fittings to each end and soldered them.Cost me little bit more than PEX tee but way less and more reliable than factory or aftermarket junk.Your idea is also good.Patent it and you going to be a millionaire very soon,Chrysler is going to help you with it:).

Wish it was that easy to make money when it comes to patents. Dorman Products has been following the posts on this repair and looks like they are now working on a metal version so there will hopefully be something out by the end of the year.

@@MotorCityMechanic For sure. It's going to be exactly same as you used, just with Dorman name on it.

Your videos are very educational. I have a Ram Promaster with the 3.6L V6. Can you tell me how the antifreeze works? Its been a while since I dealt with antifreeze. 1990s. What antifreeze do I use? use 100% or mix with water 50/50?. reservoir is low and need to top off.

Wait wait so you're telling me I don't need to buy a new part for $200 and instead just buy a T at lowes ?🤔Genius!. Do I need to drain the coolant before doing that though?

Hey quick question I have a 13 charger RT been looking at videos on replacing my lower radiator hose , on mine what happen was the hose rubbed against the alternator pully making a small hole in the hose, would it be a good idea instead of jacking the car up and spending extra time on it cut off the hose part that rubbed and place a straight brass fitting in between the spot and clamp it off on both sides or.... just bite the bullet and replace the whole hose? My car only has 42k miles on it ,, weekend driver Thanks

Great info, David. Thx! Not unique to Mopar. Did similar repair twice on a 94 Mustang GT I drove for 23 yrs and recently on my G35S. Used metal this time. My experience is they leak slow for a long time before full failure. Pressure testing reveals all.

Power steering pump is new but keeps going in and out on the chrysler 300, 2012 model. Is there any idea of what the problem could be ?
