Fixed! Dodge Charger heater core hose T

- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- Dodge uses a plastic "tee" fitting on the hoses at the heater core. The "T" is prone to failure. In this video I show you how easy it is to replace with a metal T fitting that won't fail you.
tee fitting: amzn.to/2N0121I
heater hose: amzn.to/2MYrsAZ
hose coupling (if needed): amzn.to/3rTNy6q
hose cutter: amzn.to/3dfmBpI
another hose cutter: amzn.to/2Np6efo

This exact same thing happened to me! Coolant sprayed all over the engine but before that the temperature gauge was fine. I let the engine cool and put a pair of vice grips to pinch off the hose to the intake on the motor just to make it the last mile home. Temperature was fine the whole time. I read some people posting that their car was overheating. Obviously it will overheat if it spraying coolant but unless you can see it leaking from that T coupling I don't think that's the problem. Thanks for making the fantastic video WJ and especially posting links to the specific parts!
I was lucky, when it happened to me I was already parking, so it had a chance to cool. Then about a 5 mile drive home, cool and refill. Then 8 miles to my shop and repair! Mine never got too much hotter than the normal temp.
Thanks for the video.
A big plus for showing the location of the bleeder bolt.
Love the video everything worked just like u said. I didn’t have to cut hose, I used a hammer to break the plastic housing around T hose. Make sure all out of pipe before connecting.
Thank you for this video. I'm just gonna do some preventative maintenance and replace my tee before something happens
glad the video was helpful. Yes, this is one of the things worth doing even if yours isn't broken yet, because it's simply of matter of when, not if it's going to break
Right on Dub-Dandy,
You get an A+ for the thumbnail on this video.
-Charles.
You sir are the man. Thanks a million! I think I’m gonna do this job as a preemptive strike lol
Fine outcome. But I would advise everyone who watches these videos, Not to cut the hose, but the 1-1/4" abs clamps. This would ensure you the proper size hose. In other words, cut the black plastic clamps carefully thru the middle, (I used dremel tool w/ cutting blade) without cutting into the hose material, original hoses are most of the time a whole lot better than the after market types. Replace the Y-type with the aftermarket aluminum Y type. Do Not use the troublesome abs Y's, they will crack again. Also, Never use those "Screw-type" clamps, use original pressure-adjusting clamps. Mechanics would know, that all these heat channeling hoses expand, and the clamp needs to expand with them. That's why this design.
thanks for the tips
Thanks I didn't consider that the hoses need to expand!
I just did that after changing the timing set and driver's side motor mount. I got the part from autozone. Dorman did a good job using normal metal parts for the build. Since one was leaking, I changed them both. Now I'm wondering if I need to replace the heater core. The heat system is acting up. It may just be that interior sensor behind the mirror. I have to scan it and see if it lost cinnection with that part again. When sitting, idling, the car has heat. Driver's side is cooler than passenher's side. When driving, it cools down and blows cool air for defrost. Coolant is full, so not sure yet. I still have to do some troubleshooting.
good luck, hope you find it and it's something easy
Wrong coolant I won't ever put supertech anything in my hemi, zerex g05 coolant and pennzoil oil, valvoline Trans fluid like recommended but thanks for the helpful video these coolant hoses are a pain on this car definitely replacing all clamps with the screw clamp
I did this like 6 months ago and I felt like a genius they said $300 for the hoses made of plastic and rubber
mine still holding up great
just went to a shop and they wanted 850 for both hoses and 280 for the labor to change them
So you, and your family survive the Great Texas Ice Storm of 2021, having gone without electricity for 48 hours, and the first thing you do when the power comes back on is upload a UA-cam Video about your Dodge?
I can respect that. lol
-Chuck
uploaded before we lost power LOL Kind of ironic though that it's about a hose busting and spewing steam
What is the hose that’s right below the heater core hose that’s where my issue is I just don’t know the name of that hose.
@@smyleegrl001 I think it's the same sort of hose. Mine isn't broken [yet?] but I think it can be repaired the same way just eyeballing it
How did u take of the cowl and bottom pan? I can’t get to mine easily. Urs is open and viewable. Have hellcat.
You helped me find out what was wrong with mines appreciate you my guy mines did that same lil split right there
I didn't have to cut the hose, I just cut the factory clamps off with a small hacksaw. came off pretty easy
I'll keep that in mind for "next time." I am seeing these crazy plastic connectors more often
@WJ Handy Dad thanks for the video it saved me lots of money
Does the color of the hose matter I bought the red hose but matieral feels different and less flexible will that not be a problem?
That's a good question and unfortunately I don't know if there is a difference in the hose color. All I can say is mine is still holding up just fine.
What are the metal 2 hoses connected to the fire wall?
most likely you are talking about the heater core
Can I use a 1”x 1”x 3/8?
Will this work for my 2017 Dodge Charger
it should honestly work for any vehicle that has a cheap plastic "T" connection on radiator hoses
What bit did you use to open bleeder valve? Mine is somewhere between t40 and t45 torx bit but they don't. Are make anything between those two...?
I honestly don't remember what I used - I might have used an allen key
@@WJHandyDad Kudos for getting back to me like that. I caught another video and the guy has a 1/4" star tool. Mine are all metric. Gonna find out tomorrow though. Thanks again
Thanks a lot man 🔥🔥
Hi, what was the inner diameter of the red hose you used?
did it cause the car to turn off
no, I let it cool, drove home, let it cool, filled it up, drove to my shop. I watched the temperature gauge the whole time and never let it get higher than normal.
Do u think it’s ok just to change the plastic tee?
in my case it was the perfect fix. The plastic tee is what broke.
Ok it’s changed what do you suggest i do next if car is still overheating?
best to google "why is my car overheating" because it could be a lot of things like air in the cooling system or a stuck thermostat
And bleed the system I may need to do that as well
It’s a must and it’s so easy to do so
You can remove the fitting around that hose by crushing that plastic and not having to cut any hose. Because the plastic has become too brittle that's why it cracked and you can easily break it into pieces without cutting it
thank you for sharing that tip
Hi can I by the ( T ) only since my hoses are in good condition ?
yes
@@WJHandyDad thank you just ordered it last night . This will save me money thanks a lot
I saw someone (you or someone else?) post in the FB group that they were doing this today
you dont have to cut the hose you can cut those factory plastic clamps off with tin snips or like and the hose comes right off.
thank you for the tip
I used a hammer, worked great
So close i just need to get a longer heater hose in the back back to home depot
yeah, that was my situation... too difficult to try to re-use the existing hose
Just did mines grab a 3/4in 3/4in by 1/2in
Will 3/4 3/4 1/2 inch work
Yup! That’s what I used worked like a charm!
What bout a 3/8
Yes just done mine lowes don't carry the one in this video it sucks but the 3/4 3/4 1/2 inch worked out thanks too the last comment that stated it works
How is it holding up my guy?
100% perfectly so far
“ that’s what she said!!”
After I fixed this leak I found out my oil cooling pump was also leaking
that sucks. Sometimes we get lucky and a simple fix and our cars work flawlessly. Hope you are able to easily fix that
Mine was opposite. Oil cooler pump then coolant
@@devonkennedy4751 well my pump looked bad so it was probably already leaking and I didn’t notice it
Did this and my car over heats still.. maybe I need to add more coolant lol idk but it’s not leaking anymore thank god
I do have a video on filling it up with coolant
@@jl4093 problem fixed you were correct, system needed to be bled
Did the same thing new one cost 184.45 I was like nope 👎
yeah, no reason to spend that much money. I have a lot of "hacks" on this channel to save money fixing things. I fixed the cluster lighting for "free" in this video: ua-cam.com/video/4Jle5BEF5aE/v-deo.html
Thanks everything that I'm working on you dun done it you don't know how much it helps me and others keep these great videos coming ✊🦾🖤
