Sir - When you said... "On my 60th Birthday", a rush of Hope and Inspiration came to me. I've always wanted to do what you and your wife have accomplished. I will begin in the coming year to hopefully make our dream a reality as well. Great job! Thank You and Bless you and family.
Великолепная работа!! Мне 40 лет и в этом году осенью мне предстоит такая же работа,но по строительству дома большего размера. Тоже из дерева,но в России. Надеюсь смогу построить также хорошо,как и вы!!!
One of many of my observations; I have noticed is that When I have seen Farmers build a Cabin, they all do it almost perfectly! I Loved this Video! At my age of 73. Seeing a 60 year old man build a Superb Cabin, is showing that at even in your older years, it can be done! Thank You!
My father my brother and I built 4 dugouts on our 500 + acres and we rent them out for three months out of the winter to out of state hunters. Each dugout has a wood stove and compost toilet and sleeps 4 people comfortably. It took years to kinda catch on but now I make 400 dollars a week per person. Four wheelers and side by sides are available for extra price. They are very nice and taken care of... I even lived in the first one we built for over 3 months.
You may not be a "professional builder by trade", but this is beyond professional quality sir. Excellent job and great video showing the whole process. An awesome little getaway on the homestead. Beautiful cabin.
Building a 10 X 16 off grid cabin my self. I am not a trained builder but I did get help from my friend who is. He kept me out of making big mistakes. I am 67 he is 73. Do not let age stop you. We go slower than we used to but that all part of the fun.
As an experienced -yet- aging general contractor, I gotta say, my elbow hurts watching you swing that hickory handle framing hammer. I’m impressed with hand nailing everything. And Larry Haun would be proud.
@@adamsauve yes. Carpenters use big hammers to drive bigger nails (like this video) small hammers to do finish work. modern tradesman don’t face nail much of anything anymore but it’s fun to watch someone do it the old way.
@@billmacmillan5373I was going to say the same thing. See a lot of people using impacts to drive screws, not so much nailing though. Was a nice change. Good to see old school.
When I think of what "Happily Ever Looks Like", I know living here could be included. I love this cabin and would it would make me so happy to own some woods with a little cabin.
Doing this had to not only be satisfying but therapeutic. This is what comes to mind as living life and enjoying the moment. This to me is gratifying. I so enjoy seeing this from a man my age.
Fantastic cabin and video. You did an amazing job all around. Your homestead is growing in leaps and bounds because you both work so hard. Thank you for showing that a dream can come true with determination. Blessings❤❤
You certainly have a great eye and talent for carpentry. Reminds me of the house my grandfather built unfortunately my carpentry skills are pretty modest but 2 of my sons inherited the carpentry gene luckily LOL.
Will be 65 in January and after rainy season, this will be my Spring and Summer❤ Different building in Hawaii but basically similar. No insularion or subfloor needed and open air all around. Love this!
You did an excellent job on this cabin. I love it! You inspire me. I am 62 and you give me inspiration. Thank you for that. I want to build a chicken coop. I like the hammer and nails. That is how we learn to build growing up. Lots of blessings to you and again thank you.
It looks fantastic! I've owned my land for 18 years and am just getting around to slowly putting a cabin on it. I'm 62 and your video is very inspiring. I'm still physically fit with some minor chronic health issues that don't get in the way. Thank you for sharing this.
keeps a body and mind YOUNG, to do this!! Nice hammerwork! Great attitude, too. 73-here, just finished self-building my 7th ECOhome. After the catamaran :-) Whewwwww...the dreams NEVER stop. May I suggest for anyone thinking of doing this, to FIRST plant some fruit trees. No reason to wait, right?! :-) Sempre avanti.... (now I offer FREE Plans for anyone willing to self-build, cause in 2024 there is NO other way) Say...that IS DF or SYP wood, right? Too-bad its NOT 2x6. BIG difference. Ahhhhh....this guys "young", he'll learn from this! haaaaaa
@@offgridchallenge and don't forget that boat to still build :-) Maybe an Escargot? Or an ECO6? A micro-canalboat is what I've next ahead. Are you wishing you'd built that 2nd floor? My designs always seem to be that!
Thank you for confirming what I been thinking about doing when I build my cabin next spring and That is putting the bubble foil down over the floor joist before the plywood. I've never seen it done before and was going to do it anyway! great build and video!
For our instance the bubble wrap was enough since we live in a mild climate. If you live in a cold climate however, full insulation would be advisable.
I'd love to see him do that plus add insulation and a plastic moisture barrier....😮 to the bottom side of the subfloor. Because of course you would cover the bottom of the cabin to keep the critters out!
@@offgridchallengeI’m building one very similar … 10x20 .. we built to 10x10 walls and covered them with plywood … painted it and then laid them down and tied them together and filled the floor with styrofoam recycled from another project .. then built the walls similar to yours …
Incredible attention to detail. Your work is just as good as anything I've seen on UA-cam. Mostly by yourself and with physical ailments. I envy your tenacity and attention to detail. Impressive!!! Motivates me to do more things like this. Thank you.
For an "Amateur" builder.. Bravo to you good Sir. The fact your hand nailing about everything, and most don't know to crown the joist and studs.. Well done!! I'm impressed!
I don’t know if this is the same everywhere but where I live in NW Ohio if you have a building that’s not on a foundation such as this you don’t have to pay property taxes on the building. I LOVE the owl painting!!!!! We had one just like that in our house when I was a kid.❤️
Beautiful to see husband and wife on a project especially in their later years. 55 and hoping to get my chance to build one (at least a shed) before its too late. Congratulations, Job well done.
Very Nicely done. I would like to add: I have seen many of these videos. Your idea of building the deck 1st? Perfect! Gives you working space & your lumber, tools aren't in the mud.
I salute you for this incredible achievement, especially at 60 (though 60 isn't old). It's quite an age difference from my 37 years. Many of us younger folks might shy away from such a project, feeling incompetent, but you're proving that anything is possible and that age is truly just a number.

Would love to see a video tour. Sounds so cool
This is awesome!
Where I live in Montana the money season is Memorial Day to Labour day
How do you build to insure no water gets in? Always wondered when I watch them being built how they divert water when it rains or snow melt😮
That is So Awesome 😂❤🎉

As someone who has never swung a hammer and only used hobby air tools, does hammer type matter?
