I've been avoiding Insta'butt... till now.
Concrete Board, better than drywall for your build.
Your a diamond mate this sort of thing helps so many people esp those with not so much DIY skills .
Defo different direction for your videos but dont forget our lust for the survival bushcraft stuff
Regards from the UK 🇬🇧 😀
Everytime I watch your channel; I learn something new. Thanks. I renovated an old shed into my tiny home; still a work in progress lol!! But I'm happy with how it turned out; you definitely inspire me to improve!!
Man the way it turned out is outstanding. Love the videos corporal. Please keep up the great work. Jason from Florida
Finally went on a camping trip myself. I was unprepared, sleep deprived, and miserable. But i crave the mountains and the experience again. Ill be going back better prepared next time. Your videos motivate me
Good effort, keep going, and this time next year you’ll be a pro!! Nice one 👍🏻
Way to go bro. Take notes. Improve your style.
Every time you camp out you gain experience and you create a mental list of what you do and don't need plus what works and what doesn't.
Half the battle is just getting out there, but you’ll always feel better after a trip. Always worth it.
It is a learning process. Fun one, as long as you keep safe! I'm reminded that I had experienced people teach me when I was young and I'm grateful. Now we have the help of UA-cam. Just be aware that things can go wrong real fast and be prepared for it. That fact makes it better in my opinion. We come from a long line of people that did this with so much less.. 😁👍🏻
You crushed this build. I'm in construction, and I can tell you that you say you don't have much skill, but the pride you take in what you do puts you light years ahead of most professionals. Enjoy, and keep banging out the videos. Thank you!
I know you said this series has been lack luster on engagements and views but I have to say I absolutely loved this series and you have some quality craftsmanship. Just wanted to let you know some of us really enjoyed it.
That was very informative and the simple design makes me feel more confident that I (70 yr old lady) and my daughter can build this on wooded property I own. I have a home nearby and just want a secure place to camp. No more tent or car camping for me! This build is perfect for me.
Youre the only youtuber ive seen actually make a realistic connection between standard electrical wiring for homes and an off grid system. props bro i liked that alot
I was thinking the same thing. That was cool how he did that and it's simple.
Had high expectations when you started teasing the off grid cabin... and my God dude, you exceeded them all! Fantastic series, outstanding cabin, can't wait to see how you turn this into the Taj Mahal of the swamp sir!
And on behalf of all your loyal subscribers, THANK YOU...I know UA-cam doesn't look out for you like they should but you ALWAYS provide us with PHENOMENAL and consistent content. You are BY FAR the hardest working man on here.
Suggestion. Install the bottom of your catchment barrels higher than the sink. Water will then flow by gravity to the sink faucet. No electrical water pump needed.
After last week sounded like this one wasn’t gonna happen or was gonna be awhile. So glad you took the time to share with us. Totally awesome seeing the project from start to this point. Thanks for all you do. Always get a kick out of the 80s references/quotes too.
First and foremost... thank you for continuing to document this build. Alot of viewers like myself greatly appreciate your content!
Never in a million years did I expect to see an Atari pop up on this channel.... and I love it!
🙌
I am sorry that your views for this series tanked, but, in my opinion, this was outstanding A F! I love these kinds of builds, along with your other videos, The variety of creation that you show is excellent! The effort you put into all of this, I think, goes unnoticed by many, but is greatly appreciated by me. Keep up the good work, and thank you!
This was the best DIY of a cabin by one person I have ever seen. I knew you had skills but this takes the cake. I will never doubt you or your skills and abilities. I started watching the first episode but got board. Watch a little bit of the second, but watched all of this one and was quite impressed. When you put the window in I waited for a delayed joke when you said that's a win. I thought you would say dow as in window but it didn't come.
Semper Fi.
Earl, I don't know how the heck anyone can get "board" (bored) watching these tutorials. I binge watch Corporal's Corner more than The Walking Dead. LOL😆. Keep watching my friend, it's great stuff.
@@loganwolf2037 I thought something looked wrong about that word. My bad. Anyway, mad props to Shawn. I am always impressed by all the hard work he puts into building all types of shelters in the woods. This was just the next level up.
My wife and I have enjoyed your off grid cabin series together.
Thank you for this compilation.
I know you were hesitant to bother with a 4th video, given UA-cam's shenaniganery, but I really appreciate you showing the finished project. The hut looks great, and I hope you enjoy the fruits of your labor there for many years to come.
What did UA-cam do?
@@surfingonmars8979 It nerfed the reach of his previous few videos on the topic.
@@ThraceVega RB, I am not sure what “nerfed’ means in this setting. WHY on earth would these videos prove troublesome to ANYBODY????????
@@surfingonmars8979 Ah, sorry, 'nerfed' means to suppress, tune down, weaken, etc.
UA-cam, being a tool of the corporate hegemony, doesn't like people encouraging the public to be self sufficient or independent.
@@ThraceVega Thanks for the jargon update!
Just caught this for the first time, I will be watching it over and over.
Simplicity and freedom, awesome video and great choice in tools.
My 10 yr old son and I watched this last night while camping in our lean-to down by the creek.
I am so happy you shared the rest of the build with us. I was very down hearted when you spoke of not doing so last week. I hope you share any further updates you make. I really enjoyed watching you build this. Loved the old Atari games. 😹Thank you for sharing with us.
Now the secret is out. What Shawn doesn't show you is the Gameboy he takes on his solo overnights! Cabin turned out outstanding 😎
"Little to no skill" is a severe underestimate of what it took to build this cabin. None of the skills are particularly difficult to learn, but you definitely displayed a wide range of skills in this video.
Outstanding job Marine, Semper Fi
I'm glad you finished this out, I know these didn't perform to your usual numbers, but they are fun to watch. Plus the little cabin turned out well.
put your water collection barrels up on a platform to where the bottom of the barrels is slightly higher than your countertop put gutters on the building and run the downspouts to feed the barrels and then you will have a gravity flow into the building through your filter and then out through your faucet
Nice build! Love the tin siding and roof. This is exactly what I need to build on my property. I need a permanent/stationary solution so I don't have to keep packing in and out every time. Beautiful!
You might not have seen me, but as an old contractor, I was with you there, helping you inspirit. 🤠Get another window in there for a cross Breeze, then you can regulate your temperature better. Also, if possible get it insulated, that will help (all sides & top). You'll be surprised at the difference that makes! I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BUILD! 😎👍 Your meals looked pretty tasty as well, reminds me of hunting and camping etc.
"The ghost is incarcerated here in our custom made storage facility." Nice job Corporal. I dig that rug. Really ties the room together!
For a guy with little or no skills, you showed great construction skills. That's outstanding!!!
I'm impressed!!! I've watched too many of your videos, but this one and the ideas for the future are unbelievably fantastic!!! Congratulations, Corporal!!!
Just finished the video!! Watched it with my daughter and she’s like “okay” that’s what we’re for my summer break. OUTSTANDING AF. Hat’s off to you mister
Pretty cool cabin. There is something to be said for basic cabins. Make them too fancy and it just becomes another house to maintain.
That's what I am talking about! To have the comfort of home when you're out in it is a major bonus.
Thank you for the vids. Looking forward to more on this.
I'm impressed with the output of the portable power unit !! Yep, bring on the thunderbox... (outhouse). We're all here to see it through. 🇭🇲🐞
I rebuilt a small cabin about that size several years back. It sat up on a hill overlooking the creek, a hill that had never seen water on top of it. 2017 and Harvey hit. Flooded the cabin and flipped it over, filling it with water and eventually mold. My buddy who helped me rebuild it, helped to flip it back over. It was a total loss. We haven't really messed with it since. Now after having seen this, I may go tear it down and build something else down there to be able to have some fun with my little boy.
No lie... This is literally what I look forward to every Sunday! 💯
Salute Corporal 🦅🇺🇸
Sorry if this is a little long winded...
* First off, I'm glad to see you gave us another video on the build.
* Secondly, I've been in the building industry, both residential and commercial my whole working career. I've seen people who call themselves "Professionals" that would have made a total mess of something like this.
* Thirdly, being a non trades individual I think you did a pretty good job. Your also right on someone being able to do this with a little knowledge and common sense. The problem is that common sense isn't too common these days.
Thank you for your time and efforts with your channel!
My man, you just pulled out an entire flat-screen TV. This stuff is always cool!
Yes! A 30 minute video...just like the old days. Good work on the cabin.
Yes.... A 30 minutes+ video, I love these!!!
Don’t sell yourself short CPL this was very impressive. Congratulations on your awesome build.
Corporal getting ready for retirement, I see you with a banjo in a chair in that cabin in the middle of the swamp and shooting some passing deers.
Joke aside, even if I am younger than you, I will say I am proud of you that you left behind the military life into something more independent and creative, of course it is a part of you, but what you do now feels from your soul and thats great
This whole series. Watching you from prepping the ground to hanging the television, has been so bad ass. Cheers to many of good nights and days in the new
Off-Grid Cabin. Truly an inspiration watching all of this come together. Love your work and wish you nothing but success, health, and happiness.
I’ve been camping 8 days the last three weeks. Figuring out the hammock and having fun. Shawn, great video, and I appreciate the electrical plug wiring information.
I didn’t believe you when you said you had no to little skill. Your build says differently sir.
Every high school student should be required to learn to build something like this. Teaches you everything you need to know to provide basic long term shelter. Doesn’t have to be pretty but it’s very functional.
Just found your channel and enjoyed the content. Thanks for NOT talking all the way through, it's good to just watch things come together. I haven't seen an Atari game station in decades.... Thanks
I know the cabin build videos don't do well with "The powers that be", but thank you for keeping us updated. It's coming along very well.
Outstanding... and doing this in just ten days shows serious planning skills! Well done.
If you add a mattress on top of the plywood, drill some holes in the plywood base for ventilation to keep the mildew/mold at bay from any condensation build-up. Consider a 12V RV fridge for a low power consumption. i.e. Alpicool, Dometic, Iceco, etc. . Also, consider a USB rechargeable water dispenser for the sink. pumps from a 5 gallon water container.
I'm 54 and I've worked with corrugated steel most of my adult life. I've had to hand cut so many panels. Now I've got 3 nebblers. One on the roof one on the ground at the staging area, and a set in reserve for a backup.
I'll never go back to hand cutting. Those nibblers are nice and much more efficient.
Very highly anticipated video. Couldn’t wait to watch the end. Always remember, we support YOU-regardless of what your videos are about. It’s the little things like seeing what different meals you prepare and the mix of humor that make every video you post enjoyable…makes a lonely man and his dog feel like we’re watching a friend go on another exploration.🏞
You should film the “trimming out/finishing” day as well.
Semper Fi devil dog!
Thanks!
Really happy that you finished the build, it's been a great watch. keep us posted on it's progress again thank you for your hard work looking forward to seeing what you have installed for us next week. 👍
I would actually live in that full-time. Outstanding!
Loving this series. We have some property with a pond and this is exactly what I want to build. Thanks for the inspiration!
That’s amazing! Thank you for posting. Literally all the essentials. I cannot believe how fast you got that up. I’m impressed.
Hello dear, how are you doing?
Great series and great off grid cabin. The rib eye probably cost more than the build.
Glad to see there’s someone else in the world who loves fried SPAM! Great job on the cottage!
Thanks for doing this video in the end. Great video.
I would screen the porch in with netting type screen, so very hot summer nights be able to sleep out on the porch.
Sleeping porches were a must before electricity. I'm going to put mine on the east side of my off grid cabin.
I really enjoyed this latest series. Really got me thinking about how easy this would be to do.
That was by far the best episode of Corporal's corner yet! I'm so glad the Cpl. mentioned how much experience he had with wood working and craftsmanship, and electrical work. I was going to ask, how much of his knowledge comes from being in the military and how much comes from his experience outside of the military? Always enjoy watching your videos, and keep up the great work! 👍🏽
Super jealous of that gaming console. Kids these days have no clue what a real game is. Lol. Outstanding as always Corporal.
I didn't realize you were venturing into the interior decorating realm😄. I love it. For my little cabin I used some sheet metal from some old industrial HVAC plenum to make a hot tent stove. I got the basic plans from Far North Bushcrafters page. Thanks for doing this series.
Thank you for making this video. I really appreciate your efforts and high quality of your videos.
It's sad you sometimes think you are not enough, when you teach thousands of people something everyday.
There has not been a single video where I haven't learnt something.
Gave up on outhouse, trying compost toilet. No smell, working fine with wood shavings. Can use for fertilizer for trees and shrubs
All righty then! Glad you dropped this. I wanted to see it's "furtherance" and completion later. Rats love Romex. I'm glad you said you were going to box in the basement! I failed to mention in the past three drops that the new wood you used is gorgeous. Obviously not from HD! And not from the Left Coast. All of our good stuff is going to China! Excellent job! And I approve of this appraisal. How soon can we make reservations?
Thank you for posting this video so we could see the end result thus far. Really loved this build and so glad to see the bunks. Can't wait for you and your son to get to use the cabin. As someone who lost their dad early and is a dad, I can't stress the importance of spending every minute you can with your kid (or vice versa with your dad) . I know he would have loved your videos! Loved the Atari flex at the end!
Dude!!! This is awesome!!! Thanks for showing us this process start to finish! I really look forward to any updates you put out about this build (yes...sadly i know the interest isnt there for this, but those of us that are interested are hopeful!), or any vids you include this build in! Thank you for you time effort and patience with this process and I'm looking forward to the next vid or bucket-list build!
Good deal, soldier!!! You are inspiring me to live off grid!!! SURVIVALIST SKILLS ARE A NECESSITY IT APPEARS IN THESE UNCERTAIN TIMES!!!!
Too cool for school Shawn, really nice little home away from home; ya done good son, I'm impressed. Your channel is an inspiration to all, well, at least those smart enough to tune in. 👍
Very well done Corporal. Can’t wait to see how you incorporate the fort into future videos. Now that I get how UA-cams algorithm works. As always, I will be watching to the end.
I watched the earlier videos when they aired but it was fun to watch them again and tie them all together. For having "little to no skills" you've done an amazing job. I sincerely look forward to learning what you have planned for the future.
Sir, I love how you incorporate cooking lunch/dinner into the rhythm of your building day. When doing a task, I’m one to zone in until it is done. I often forget to check for break times. It’s about enjoying the simple pleasure and comfort of a warm meal. Thank you for the inspiration!
I loved watching it. You say little to no skills.i applaud your modesty.
Dude, what an awesome AF video series. I’m totally blown away with it. The eighties references had me grinning like Nicholson’s Joker. Outstanding work on the build.👍
You are a man of many talents. Impressed AF
These are the shelters we need for the homeless in my city!the Mayer needs to be watching this!!👍
Humanitarian causes do not belong in capitalism, nobody is cashing out from people that cant pay
Last time I was this early was for a Brigade run! Love the cabin!
Outstanding! I am impressed you accomplished this in just 10 days solo!
Another outstanding adventure Shawn, I really enjoyed this series.
Keep up the good work and just remember, it is only work if you are not enjoying what you do. 👍
this is one of my favourite small cabin build videos, very easy to follow and methodical, hope to build one this coming year , thanks for the upload Cpl.
I'm really glad you decided to make this video. Screw the algorithm, do what you wanna do. I'm happy to hear about future plans too. This is particularly inspiring to me at the moment cuz I'm trying to finish my own on grid place in the woods, my goal being to eventually make it off grid capable. Also pretty rad you can play your Atari in there lol ftw. Thanks as always brother Shawn. God bless
I was hoping you'd load this up, loved seeing the old school atari as well.... thanks for finishing this up for us UA-cam watchers and not ig....
Wow, congratulations on getting it functioning. Sorry your views were down. I did enjoy watching though.
Reminds me of my dad's cabin. He had a wood stove in it that he made out of a 55 gallon drum, with juicy juice number 10 cans riveted together as a chimney. Good memories spending time there.
Outstanding, Shawn! Every man needs a base of operations surrounded by nature. I’ve got to laugh at your video game choice. I’m with you… as soon as Nintendo jumped to the 2nd generation controller that took more than just my two thumbs to play, I lost interest and watched my kids pass me by! 😂 After your first night in the bunk with the fan, I’m curious if you are considering either a 2nd window or a screen door for cross circulation? Cheers! 👍👍👍 ~John
Thank you Corporal 👍 AWESOME AF 👊as always, appreciate you. Stay safe and take care my friend 🙏 🇺🇲👍
Very nicely done. My only worry would be a strong windstorm flipping it (happened to a similar setup my dad made when I was a kid), but hopefully siding on the bottom will reduce the chances of that. 👍
In my neck of the woods we’d screen in that little verandah out the front so you could sleep out there on those balmy nights. That place is awesome. Great work.
I don't know the humidity factor / levels in your area, but have you thought of mildew control etc for matresses and all that?Fantastic video man, i truly like seeing someone who has talent and know-how all across the board in life. You're a great educator! Thank you
I could write a comment big as a book but to put it in a nutshell: big respect, not only for building this cabin, but for sleeping in it during the rain (it would be way, way to loud for me ^^) and damn, this collection of old Atari games. it's just outstanding. If I haven't already subscribed I would do now for sure 😎
Congratulations on the cabin build, looks outstanding.
Haven't watched in a few months your video popped up literally after I'd been thinking about tiny homes today and I had to watch. Flawless execution per usual
I have watched all the episodes of this build. Interesting . Not all of it the way I would do it . However it all works and looks good.Functional, what more could you ask for
Good on you for buying a Japanese made tv and not some jank Chinese or Korean tv, smart choice. Excellent cabin and just proves that something nice can be made simply.
This video has inspired me to start building my own 🙂 thanks can't wait to enjoy my own classic video games in the middle of the woods with the pitter patter of the rain On The roof
Out of all the cabin build videos I’ve been watching I gotta say I’ve enjoyed yours the most. It “looks” simpler yet better than the others.
Awesome 👌loved watching everyone moment
And thank you for sharing 👌
Thank you so much for these informal videos, you make it look so simple. I love the cabin and in just 10 days you built it, that's awesome. I purchased the "Bush Craft 101" about 2 years ago, thanks. Please keep the videos coming. Thank you so much. Blessings.
I always get hungry when watching your videos.
