      @@nicholascowan1731 Usually because the audio levels are off, or the music is intending to add emotion to something that does not need more emotion.
      With that said, when I listen to Watts I often open up another browser tab and put on some binaural audio (meditation type tones).
      I suggest trying that, it's peaceful.

    it still took courage to be the person he was, his ability to see what is real and to put it all together. he evolved what the ancients wrote and put it into terms that we could understand across the ocean of language, in a similar way einstein took newtons physics ideas and evolved them into general relativity. i guess i should iterate what i was referring to in a more specific way, but whatever way you want to look at it, stop looking at the glass as half empty

    Ananda Kentish Coomaraswamy was a Ceylonese Tamil philosopher and metaphysician, as well as a pioneering historian and philosopher of Indian art, particularly art history and symbolism, and an early interpreter of Indian culture to the West. In his travels, he came across a sage, who he described as living a: "Perpetually Uncalculated Life In the Present."

    The best I can do is act like a ship in a storm and control to a certain extent the aspects of movement. Or better example is like skydiving. When I'm falling I have the choice of cupping my hands and spinning in circles, dive down like an arrow, do somersaults, enjoying my experience of falling, BUT ultimately I am still in an uncontrollable fall.

  • @obeymydog42
    @obeymydog42 11 років тому

    Matt is right, but in case a few more words will help: your sense of being you, a separate entity, can only be felt by contrast with other beings or objects that you consider to be "not you" or "other". So just like an object can't have a top but no bottom, you can't have a separate self without something "other" for it to be separate from. Watts calls it polar thinking, to be able to see the connectedness of seemingly opposite aspects of the world (short can only exist relative to tall, etc.)

    if you walk in the emptiness, how can you feel walking? You need the existence of a way to feel you're walking. You cannot feel walking without the environment. So the walking, the way, and you, are all the same, and inseparable. If you walk without "here" and "there", there's no moving. If you exist without "no you's", there's not the feeling of "I", there's only a point and the empty. But as you and others are inseparable, actually there's neither you nor others. Obvious and paradoxical.

    To exist without a purpose is, in itself, suffering. I believe we all want to be free in its truest and fullest sense. I propose here that we are most free when we are free to fulfil the purpose we were intended for. A blender being used to prop open a window or door, in this sense, is not free because it was intended for mixing. The question is what purpose are people intended for?

    • @stephenalevesque2361

      It is true when someone identifies with non-permanent things like their profession or possessions and believe that "I am THIS..." (doctor, writer, football player, etc.) sets them up for an identity crisis the day they can no be THAT. I am proposing that there is an identity that cannot be lost or taken away. That identity is "a child of God through Christ Jesus" an Ultimate and Eternal identity that cannot be lost.

    TO laotzu4272; Thank you for your comments! Well you are correct if coming from the idea that identity =role, station or occupation in life. But I am referring to one's core identity from which our thoughts, words, actions and thoughts proceed. It supersedes all such labels or states. My understanding of identity is derived from the biblical understanding which uses a lot of imagery (light/darkness, sheep/goats, wheat/tares, saved/lost, etc.) in order to define 2 core identities a person can be, best summed up in John 1:12 "But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God." So if you have rec'd Jesus then you are a child of God, and THAT is your core identity which cannot be stripped from you and from this identity all else flows. It’s the only identity that really matters and carries eternal significance. :)
