The mark of an "intelligent" mind. There are many who are educated and more lost because of it! Education does not carry with it objectivity or critical thinking...necessarily.=)

+GnarlyBroMr it means that the person with the "mark of an educated mind" is capable enough to play along with a concept or idea, respectfully, but also stick true to their beliefs and respect themselves as well

Anyone else going through a stage of finally waking up and realising life is being completely wasted by doing the same things everyday?
But why is it so terrifying to think of doing anything else but this?

    • @etmichel

There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing the same thing every day unless you say it is so. That is a trap, the one where we are led to believe that if only you have a certain thing, or act a certain way, then I will be happy and fulfilled, but it doesn't work that way. There is only the here and now, all are special and every moment is golden, live in this moment. Material circumstances only provide momentary satisfaction, true peace and happiness come only from within.
If you really think about it, it does not matter what you do, or don't do, there is really no right or wrong answer. There is only what happens to you and how you respond and feel about it. Perception is reality. For example: two individuals could have the exact same experience, one could feel nothing but love and joy, the other could see the same experience as a living hell filled with despair.
Life is illusion, it is impermanent and therefore ultimately meaningless, that is the basic lesson laid before all to see. It is all a matter choice, what do you choose?

+Northern Gardener the world is working hard on this, to lose their ability to recognize themselves, to observe themeselves, to questioning everything.
"Many people, however, refuse to accept this, making excuses for their unhappiness, for their feelings of disconnect and loneliness in the world, prodding on through their daily activities, never striving for self actualization."
And to run a life like this, that can only be bad for the whole world. for me, its a lack of information about how things really are.

You must redefine what the word god means in order to reach that conclusion, God is not simply defined as a conscious being with the ability to affect itself and it's environment, which is what we are. Remember this, when you change the definition of a word, the connotations of that word change as well, taking away the actual importance the word brings to the statement.

  • @MariaDiazskn
    @MariaDiazskn 8 років тому +816

If you awaken from this illusion and you understand that black implies white, self implies other, life implies death (or shall I say death implies life?), you can feel yourself - not as a stranger in the world, not as something here unprobational, not as something that has arrived here by fluke - but you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental.
I am not trying to sell you on this idea in the sense of converting you to it, I want you to play with it. I want you to think of its possibilities, I am not trying to prove it. I am just putting it forward as a possibility of life to think about. So then, let’s suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream you wanted to dream, and that you could for example have the power within one night to dream 75 years of time, or any length of time you wanted to have.
And you would, naturally, as you began on this adventure of dreams, you would fulfill all your wishes. You would have every kind of pleasure during your sleep. And after several nights of 75 years of total pleasure each you would say “Well that was pretty great”. But now let’s have a surprise, let’s have a dream which isn’t under control, where something is gonna happen to me that I don’t know what it's gonna be.
And you would dig that and would come out of that and you would say “Wow that was a close shave, wasn’t it?”. Then you would get more and more adventurous and you would make further- and further-out gambles what you would dream. And finally, you would dream where you are now. You would dream the dream of living the life that you are actually living today.
That would be within the infinite multiplicity of choices you would have. Of playing that you weren't god, because the whole nature of the godhead, according to this idea, is to play that he is not. So in this idea then, everybody is fundamentally the ultimate reality, not god in a politically kingly sense, but god in the sense of being the self, the deep-down basic whatever there is. And you are all that, only you are pretending you are not.

I think black, and life, do not require white, or death
Though death does by definition require life, (you can't die unless first alive) life does not require death, if this was true anything that is alive, at any point, including a creator, or eternal beings, must come to an end.

I see only peace and love in this comment section. I like to think of death as a soul returning from the distant shores of the universe and experiencing it in all its infinite glory. Whether we go back to the void, an afterlife, or another chance at life, I think there is eternal comfort in knowing that we at least got the chance to feel our own existence.
If you're reading this, I hope you find the solace, happiness, answers, or whatever it may be that you're looking for. Every time I look at the stars I will send good energy your way. RIP Alan Watts.

+Matthew Hansen I understand :) I had a moment of complete clarity the other night, which I'm sure grew from the seeds of great teachers like alan watts.
We're fractions of the conciousness that is the universe. Our purpose as human beings is to be a way for the universe to feel, explore and express itself. To live out countless dramas. Not just humans.
I honestly believe this is a dream or simulation of some kind. There is evidence to support the simulation theory.
If this reality is a simulation or a game, when you play a game, you're a player in a game, playing a game which was created by another player of the same game........which is a part of the game reality...
if we get to the stage where we create a simulation of the universe, we're getting fractalicious!!!!!

Preston Ray No worries, we all have "wasted" time doing things in confusion. But the great thing with life is that time does not matter. Time only matters for the "ego" which is a product of time, but for life/death time can't be wasted. See it like this; these 15 years was important so that you can know that you were something that you don't wanna be, in order to know what you wanna be. It's quite a beautiful thing that we humans can have the experience of "closed mindness", look what the world is now, the shallow society that talks about things like materialism, who is best/who is not, all wars about nothing, our search to be famous and so on. All our history is this "shallow-closed-mind", and I guess it has been a thrilling experience for the human race. But now it's time to wake up for it does not serve us anymore, we are destroying the planet and ourself at greater and greater rate. Whatever happens happens, life always finds a way :)

They are from your own thoughts, from the things that you already have inside your head, that is the real reason you accept them with pleasure and gratitude and happiness. You feel complete, because finally you understand that the beauty expressed by a genius has been living inside you for as long as you exist :)

When I was 17 (I'm 76), I wrote to two of my favorite authors, Robert Heinlein and Alan Watts. I received a form letter from Heinlein's wife informing me her husband was ill, and a handwritten response from Mr. Watts. I brought that letter from New York to Sausalito, California where Mr. Watts lived on a houseboat. I burned the letter to ashes in a non-attachment ritual on the pathway leading to his houseboat. I'm pretty sure I'd read just about everything Mr. Watts ever published by his death, which clearly indicates the depth of my admiration for the man and his ideas.

The average person works for 46 years. In most cases we go to work out of necessity, to eat, to have somewhere to sleep. Maybe even buy a place we could call our own for a finite time. Some days are a struggle, others we want to hold onto, relive. The days we remember most are the days where we triumph, the job interview that goes well, asking that stranger out for a drink. Other days are noise, background static to life itself.
For those who are feeling lost or alone, remember you aren't, for those who are trying to make something of themselves. Remember to slow down, you have nothing to prove. If you spend 1 hour a day, in 300 days you could write a book, or learn a completely new skill. Go take that long awaited holiday to somewhere you can't afford, to do something you have never done before. We lose ourselves in small problems, others problems that don't involve us and over time, that child in us who could dream of unbelievable things will be gone.
Dream big and do what you want with life. Remember that you are here in this exact moment, to be who you are. Nothing more, nothing less :)
