Alan Watts; Does life need to be meaningful? Part 1

- Human emotions and psyche are very complex and abstract, especially when it comes to the underlying and the fundamental questions about the meaning of life and the nature of our existence. That complexity can not easily be expressed through words, as words are the construct of our rational intellect. Alan Watts' remarkable ability to add colour to his words has come convincingly close to explaining the unexplainable.

"Pronounces German with astounding accuracy" --Forgive my pronunciation...
hehehe Watts.
+Trevor Stott He was a visionary, he knew one day we will have keyboard warrior and trolls.
@@youssefrochdi1994 he predicted smart phones and social media too and zoom and FaceTime.
Glad I found this nugget! No mystical music in the background, just Alan Watt's brassy voice. Beautiful. I'm surprised there are so few comments, Alan is pretty viral on UA-cam
the truth requires no defence.
I simply love this man. And trust me the last highlighted comment was this only I didn't see that I saw that after myself writing the same thing. I'm happy many feels the same 😍
wow... unreal quality... nice work brother/sister
everyone has access to the truth. You don't have to wonder whether or not Alan Watts speaks it. That is irrelevant. Watts himself said once that if you were able to define the real, deep down you, you wouldn't be able to put it into words that anyone would really understand. Therefore, don't worry about whether or not Alan Watts has awoken to who he truly is, because he wouldn't even be able to tell you! Just worry about yourself!
Timothy Stratton word
" Words - signifying nothing other than themselves ." (Alan Watts) And now listen to the global chattering and the dominance of intonations and words and symbols.
We are neurotically LOST °
well said
good sound and watts are hard to find thanks a lot
the immediate purpose of life is - existence. the general purpose of life is happiness - Dalai Lama.
we feel safer in a herd, since the dawn of time. i love alan watts, but i wonder how much of his mystique is his face, wonderful voice, and educated confidence.
interesting question to end this part with..
"Without music, life would be a mistake!"
- Nietzsche
all of our psychological problems can be traced back into our cultural upbringing

It's up to you. For me, it does. But quite frankly, I dont care at all if you want yours to have meaning or not. It is.. what it is.
His tone seems very different in this video
"Everything except language knows the meaning of existence...." Australian poet Les Murray
It sounds cliche, but, the only true meaning for an individual is what they decide. Ultimately, happiness. We use religion to try and carve meaning and purpose into our lives, to make us believe that there is something more than just life and death. But alas no. Yet, don't take it negatively, take it as a gift. There is no greatr purpose, there is only you and there is only freedom. The freedom to do whatever you will with your life to make YOU happy.
Good question. I'd bet on Watts, who seemed to be more "in the world" than McKenna. McKenna would probably be stoned on mushrooms and would be easy to subdue. ;-)
That is a very good article. I love it. But it does not obtain the whole of all truth. Alan Watts has some great stuff to add that isn't in that article.
I guess he does that to people.. Get's us wondering, I mean :)
they would probably meet...sit in a beautiful garden somewhere and share a joint...why would two awesome people fight?
Please PM me if you find an answer to this question, and i'll do the same for you.
Maybe that's why people always get into religion because there instincts are to keep surviving, and to live in eternity with god would be fulfilling that instinct
Meaning..... purpose ? Who's asking ? but God's apparent shadow of God ? For THIS appears as but witnessing the Imagination of God AS "me" "you" and ALL-that-this-IS.
@IneffableLifestyle I don't think so O_o
@RikThunder33 everyone can speak german :)
What is the meaning of a brain? To create meaning out of nothing.
Both would win and both would lose being that they are the same being in different vessels...lol
Probally the same reason you hadn't refered to chemistry. there is way too much detail in the world and not enough time for breadth!!!
cool ...he could speak german : O
all things correlate in the sense of an "intelligent god", which is the sense. if there is an intelligent god, and man is as the beast, 666, then are we not the opposition of god? sin, with intention of pure design.
Eyes Vial : hey you - 666 is a translational error. Correct is 616.
He relies heavily on the concept of biological urges. Does biology dictate our urges? Why not physics? Or is there a reductionist fallacy at work?
1 yes
2 in a way it does but it's more abstract
3 yes but not really lol
liam predmore : LoL
Read the "Quran" with an open mind.. you will find the answer. Good video and great voice.
