    great video. make sure you do a strip strike when striking a fish because if you dont most of the time you will miss them also make sure you have your line under your finger and the rod handle because you have better line control :)

      @@ethanrush4562 you're exactly right mate, when he's peeling line normally he does it correctly with the line sitting under his reel hand finger. But for some reason when he strikes he lets the line come out from under his finger meaning he's just striking into the slack line. That's why he missed the first pike like 4 times.

    Great to see you use a flyrod! You can also use a line basket, so the line stays untangled and gives a smoother cast. awesome vid mate. Cheers from holland.

    Nice vid. When fishing top waters wait for the fish to turn and take it down before you set the hook, should increase your hookup rate. Have fun

    As mentioned, a strip set is the way to go...fly lines are far more elastic. It's hard to reprogramme from coarse fishing with braid. Fly fishing is an awesome way to catch fish, especially done barbless,its full on ! For a guy who obviously cares about fish welfare I can't get my head around your use of trebles on lures...how about a film and thoughts on singles v trebles, barbed v barbless,and the pros and cons of each. I'm not evangelising, you're obviously a thoughtful person and I would like to hear your take on it all.

    Awesome video and an awesome job with your first fish on the fly! Superb perch! The bonus chub was really nice as well!Such a shame about the rod (I’ve done exactly the same). I couldn’t believe you fished on with it 😂😂 turned it into a tactical fly rod 🤣👌🏻
    P.s fly fishing is totally addictive...!! I’m sure you’re hooked already, such an awesome first session! Well done and always, tight lines!!

    Nice perch, mate I missed a 2lb+ perch Sunday morning.... an Jack snaffled my Lure 1ft in front of the perch. Round 2 managed to cast over a small willow branch and vertically jig for it..... the perch eventually took it, but the strike didn’t set the hook due to the resistance from the branch!!!!!
    Got vid of it all on my channel (broadcast Sunday evening)

    hi bud great video i've recently started fly fishing for perch and pike as well after saltwater fly fishing for years. a couple of tips, learn to strip strike its a very effective way of doing it especially when sight fishing. also when there is lots of trees behind you you can do whats called a roll cast which doesnt require a back cast, theres plenty of videos on youtubem very easy to do when you have a river pulling your line downstream to load the rod.

    • @The_ginger_fisherman
      @The_ginger_fisherman  5 років тому

      Thanks buddy i'll take a look. Ive been telling myself to strip strike since the first fish that took it, but as soon as that fish hits the fly my brain tells my arm to launch itself in the air haha. Im sure i'll get used to it

    When you get slightly larger fish on, use the reel. Reel in all the loose fly line and fight it from there. You will lose let's fish as you can be in control of it constantly. Good tip

    Seeing those was your first couple of sessions dont think you did too bad especially with a big fly. Now try for carp on the surface so much harder than using a controller but much more satisfying.

      I'll have to start filming in 3D. And ive caught 1 trout in my 12 years of fishing this river at 3lb10oz. Unfortunetly the water quality isnt good enough for a population of trout. My river is a D rating which is pretty poor

    Dude why are you letting go of the line when setting the hook? You are setting yourself up for failure every time. You would be more successful if you kept that line in your rod hand and when the fish strikes, strip set the hook.

  • @nickleach563
