Some great fish on the Barrow, my biggest Perch was 3lb 12 oz 3 year ago. Haven't got anything that big since but nice to know they are there. Great fishing

Hi Paul, there are some monsters in the barrow. I don't really target them that much to be honest. But lots of 20lb plus caught over the winter months. I love catching the jacks on the light gear they give a great account for themselves.. Appreciate the comment buddy. Tight lines 🎣🎣🎣

Another great little vid. What stretch is this? Access to decent waters is pretty poor out on the east coast. Thanks.

Thanks buddy. Its in carlow at the bestfield lough. Its a pretty decent stretch to be fair a little hit and miss something but normally find a few fish between there and the park in graiguecullen

Just looking on google maps there and the barrow walk looks well worth a drive down. Thanks!

I'm from Kildare now living in England..I learnt to fish in the monastetevin stretch some 30 yrs ago.. weight was between half and two and a half if u were lucky...how does it fish there nowadays...and how does the canal fish there as well...I often wonder reminiscing on my boyhood days...

Hi Tadhg, iv never fished the monastetevin strech of the barrow myself. But if its like the rest of it there is a good few nice size perch and pike in it. When I was a chap myself the fishing was a lot better but over the last few years the barrow is starting to make a great comeback. I may fish overt that way soon always wanted to give it a bash

Let me know how you do...my bet fish came from between the moor abbey bridges and the pass bridge...under the arches...also I am wondering how the black river is doing...used to be full of pike...also caught some big bream up these...which was fascinating

@@mikeoutdoors22 I recollect we as schoolboys untutored in the art of angling found the river hard fishing in winter months...apart from the IRS trout n pike. In the late autumn months the perch would firm super shoals and if we should chance upon them there would be huge catch's of often very large fish in a short space of time. Now perhaps in retrospect I would target the deeper slower moving parts during these months. The bog canal in monastetevin along with the rest of the local canal system, used to give good pike into low doubles sport during the shorter days and colder temps...Tight lines anyway...would be a trip down memory lane to see u fishing the old haunts...

Great video - think I met you a couple of months ago near Graiguenamanagh. Can I ask you about your set up - are you using mono or fluorocarbon? Do you use a trace? What size jig heads are you using? Sorry for all the questions, but its something I'd love to try.

Thanks Colin. No lad wasn't me iv not fished down that far in a few years but will be very soon all going well. I use 12lb flurocarbon as iv a lot of small pike in my area it helps from being bitten off all the time. I find when I use a wire trace I don't get as many perch. It really depends on the size of lure I'm using but normally between 2 and 5 gram jig heads for perch hopefully this helps buddy.
