I did something similar to my 12' aluminum. I made 3 separate pieces out of 1/2 inch ply with a spine and rounded ribs out of non pressure treated scrap wood. I covered it with cheap outdoor carpet. At that point all but the top of the back 2 bench seats and the area at the rear of the boat were uncovered. I used this setup for 3 years and it worked great and help up perfectly. The 3 pieces were light and easily removable. 1/2 inch was plenty sturdy
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost my account password. I love any tips you can give me.
@Baylor Danny Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
You should build a rear casting deck to cover where the gas tank and rear battery would go. I built one and gives you a nice bass boat with a front pitching deck and a rear casting deck with storage under both.
I'm 14. I spend about 80% of my summer up at the lake out on the water. At the moment I have a 14 foot aluminum boat from 1964 with 25 horse mariner. I'm getting a 16 foot within a few weeks. If I know for a fact that I'm going to get my money's worth out of it. Should I try something like this? I'm pretty hands on and quite good with simple construction and welding. It just comes down to if the benefits out weigh the cost.
Tyler, If I was you I would definitely add an automatic bilge pump and the extra decking. I would not install a live bait well due to it can also sink your boat and the amount of effort installing it is not worth the benefit. * I would also install at least two comfortable high back boat seats that rotate 360 degrees.
Very Nice! I didn't want to add a bunch of electronic stuff so I Used a solar powered mini pond fountain pump for mine, added a switch to break the Circuit and was good to go,for 10 bucks...
Great job I have a 14' princecraft I'm doing almost the same thing to when I'm done I'll post pics, I've already got casting deck and floor in back, carpeted and done
One of the best things about aluminium boats is their light weight. Decking makes them heavy. Affecting performance, fuel economy and handling when not on the water. For me, the negatives far outweigh any convenience / comfort the decking provides. I will not deck an aluminium boat ever again, I learned my lesson.
Spend the money and frame and deck with aluminum. All the wood, particularly this builds 3/4 ply is tongue bending weight to start, just plain crazy once it's become a big sponge.
I am just now starting on a john boat restoration myself. I was wondering if the height at which you make your decks on your Deep V john boat effects your balance on the boat? Thanks, Blake Beiting
This is about doing stuf with products for sale not doing a job for longevity. The job is done when it’s built, no vision of what goes on down the road for the owner. “Planned obsolescence” mentality imho
+Sean Lennon Hi Sean! We don't see why that would be an issue. A partial frame may still be necessary to support the deck, but keeping it at the same height of the seat should allow it all to work together.
ive thought about doing this to my 1975 mirrocraft.... the guy i bought it from used it for getting crab pots.... and he build bad quality decks with aluminum railing and pop rivets
Hi, Where can I get an aloominum boat? I have a aluminum boat but can't seem to find an aloominum boat. I have also had problems finding some suder to join my wires together. All I can find is solder. Will that work?
Don’t you hate it when they never answer your questions? I have videos on UA-cam too. I always answer any and all questions about my videos. It’s just rude not too reply.
Justin where in Ontario are you I need some help, figuring out the build I have in mind, do you have an e-mail or number you can send to communicate a bit easier with you.. We are in Ottawa.

@Baylor Danny It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much, you really help me out!
@Angelo Fernando you are welcome xD
I have a cool bilge pump.. It's a sour cream container.. If it's bad a bucket.

here an idea. put hinges on that last peice so you can fold up so you can use bottom as storage

I wonder if he kept the space under the new deck addition accessible so the open air will help ensure the deck will not rot from moisture.

Galvanized staples will rust especially in salt water right? make sure those babies are stainless!
Regular staples are fine, just paint them afterwards

Do you have any more footage on how you did the rest of the front of the boat? I have the same boat
Great job I have a 14' princecraft I'm doing almost the same thing to when I'm done I'll post pics, I've already got casting deck and floor in back, carpeted and done
Great video Justin , I'v used 14ft aluminum boats on the west coast salmon fishing . you had some great tips . Tight line's Gary
thanks it gave a lot of good tips for my ten foot Livingston but I'm in the market for a new bass boat that I can customize.
Hi Justin! awesome video! Im in Ontario as well...How much would you say the carpet and decking would cost? Thanks
good ideas here! will use framing ideas and deck for extending my Lund Pike 18-
Great video, i would like to know around how much was the cost for all this?

Who cares. Why did you feel the need to leave that?
I think it’s a pretty good video!
@@robertliles9582 some of us actually do care about his opinion and I think he makes a good point.
Great tips, where are located in Ontario?
Any concern about all the lumber taking up weight capacity? New aluminum boat owner here and I’d like to do something similar .

yes it does, the higher the center of gravity (platform) the less stable it will be
Nice build.. But I never use wood framing. I use Aluminum angel. It’s lighter and will never rot.

can you explain to me how you made the platform by the original seat and trolling motor on the bow
What all do I need to buy from bass pro shops to build live well?
use dimoned plating instead of plywood and carpet hold up alot nicer and in 5 years you dont have to rip it out
noah Baum diamond plate ! too heavy and alittle hot on the feet .. were you born feet first ?
Dan G lighter then plywood and just paint it or put carpet on it. it pricey though lol
noah Baum lieutenant dan do you know what it's like to have hot feet
Diamond plate is lovely to kneel on, and nearly as much fun as walking on sharp crushed stone.
Great job, gives me some great ideas...Thanks
Can I use an existing aluminum seat in the boat in place of the wooden framing for the deck?
+Sean Lennon Hi Sean! We don't see why that would be an issue. A partial frame may still be necessary to
support the deck, but keeping it at the same height of the seat should allow it
all to work together.
you could always have a retractable canopy above the boat
I would put a hinge on that deck for easy storage
only thing he never said is does the added weight effect the boat in the water??
Less bouncy in moderate seas at speed
What is the mobile mount for the fish finder? I couldn't understand what you were saying.
RAM Mount
How do you put a roof on one

What boat is that?
Hi, Where can I get an aloominum boat?
I have a aluminum boat but can't seem to find an aloominum boat.
I have also had problems finding some suder to join my wires together.
All I can find is solder. Will that work?
got a question, have you tried your boat in salwater? thanks mate
Don’t you hate it when they never answer your questions? I have videos on UA-cam too. I always answer any and all questions about my videos. It’s just rude not too reply.
Is it sturdy in the water
Tippy as all hell, no doubt!
how do you attach the frame to the boat without taking in water.
3shot mason omg really
bubble gum
What type/size hardware is best for the 2x2 framing?
Oaks or maple work good but the best is hard wood oak thats about 2in wide on all 4 sides and whatever lenghths you would like
Shane Christ what size screws or nails are ideal for joining the 2x2's?
Well if its a 2×2 into 2x2 id say 3 quarter inch to 3 and a half inch
Pressure treated 2x2 frame ?
WickedAnglerTv pressure treated wood corrodes aluiminum over time Google it
no you want pine or redwood from my understanding
Here's several ideas for building boats:
Allow plenty time.
Use ready made boat outlines.
(I read about these and more on Denelle boat builder site )
what kind of plywood ?
not pressure treated just seal regular osb, as it is stronger
russ foor paper
John Semar
Pressure treated rots aluminum so no go in a boat anyway.

Actually. Actually. Actually. Actually boat. Actually. Basically. Actually.
PWER DRIVE SUCK ! BUT nice boat
thats the biggest 20 horse ive ever seen
Piano hinge that deck for gear....
boy you are hyper...
That looks like hell.
Thank you. I thought it was my phone.
I would put a hinge on that deck for easy storage
Totes. Such wasted space unless he's planning on storing underneath, but a hinge is ideal.
