🚨 Pocket 3 vs iPhone 16 PRO - NEW footage ua-cam.com/video/D8AT7uh200c/v-deo.html QUICK UPDATE: In the last months we have switched fully to D-LOG M and never looked back to Normal or HLG. Check out this video to see what we mean ua-cam.com/video/UHscc4OFwiE/v-deo.html
I've been shooting with DJI Pocket 3 since Nov 2023...awesome beast! Shot all of my videos in Tokyo and Malaysia only with D-Log M and it looks great when applied with a custom LUT. Great video by the way, Victor!👍
sorry for the late reply. You have such an amazing channel man, subscribed. Yeah, the pocket 3 is one of the coolest tools for these kind of things. Have you tried HLG? to me when the sun is out it just gets incredible footage. Closer to the end of this video you see the gorgeous DJI Pocket 3 HLG: ua-cam.com/video/D8AT7uh200c/v-deo.htmlsi=504dWtW_2xJL1m_b
@@VictorReviewsGarage No worries on the late reply 🙂 Wow! The HLG looks really good! Will try out HLG in near future. Thank you very much for sharing the video on the comparison with iPhone 16 Pro! Great video by the way😃👍👍
When filming in HLG, what LUT are you using? If you're using what DJI provided, that's intended for the D-LOG M mode, to convert to Rec709. From my usage, it seems like HLG provides the better overall results, when you color grade it correctly. The color space is much larger, which allows for more colors. Both D-LOG M and the Normal mode, although it's in 10-bit color, it's in the Rec709 color space.
hey hey, Question is in which one do you film? :D yes the dji lut is only used for color correction for D-Log M. I think I color graded a bit saturation but not much on top. Need to check if Normal is also 10bit. I did a test with the pocket 3 vs iPhone 16 Pro and the HLG is just gorgeous when light is great. @@sarcasticfpv hey man, sorry for late reply was traveling filming the next episode for the producers. I filmed this mostly in HLG ua-cam.com/video/AfWqvFlcIQE/v-deo.htmlsi=BIKXXkXTHrbBEWBI So for me HLG has been a bit of a challenge compared to D-Log M. But I generally just add saturation +30 and maybe a bit a bit of (+5) contrast depending on the lighting setup. I filmed the episode mostly in HLG and I am going back to D-log M probably even for sunny conditions. do you really need HLG?
Just a note about HLG. HLG is not designed for grading. The way HLG works is designed very specifically to be output to an HDR display without grading, and that's because of how the hybrid logarithmic transfer function and gamma curve works within it.
hey man thank you. here is the url, straight from dji: www.dji.com/downloads/softwares/osmo-pocket-3-dlog-to-rec709 You basically need a .cube for Pocket 3 D-log M to rec 709. This is just color correction but it is just great on its own.
Not sure if the link went through in my previous comment (Probably yt is not letting me post urls) so I will just leave this here again. To find it search on any search engine: dji pocket 3 d-log m to rec 709 . it has to be on the official dji download center.
@@VictorReviewsGaragehey thnx for replying but that is the lut right? I have that installed but in your video you show the lut and the official color grading. Am i missing something here?
Is the official DJI LUT is the same as color recovery option in DJI mimo app? there are plenty of options to color correct dlog m footage in the app itself, is it enough? Im new to color grading, can you please explain..
hey man, so I have not played around with the DJI app but from my knowledge the color recovery is exactly this. The basics of coloring is the following: You shoot flat with a lot of dynamic range, then you 1) color correct to get things to something that looks close to reality and then 2) you color GRADE which is adding the theme or vibe you want to the video. When you shoot with your iphone in HDR imagine the iphone makes decisions for you how the color correction looks so you have to just color grade on top.
hey, just finished the review for action 5 and saw that color recovery, yes I can confirm it feels like the same official LUT. Here is the Action 5 Pro vs GoPro 13 Black is out here if you are interested ua-cam.com/video/SsfZuYNxRGw/v-deo.htmlsi=QiHwB_ktWOwRdk0g
The sharpening in Normal mode is quite noticeable. A bit too harsh for my taste. On the other hand the Dlog looked a little too soft in these examples, but I like the colors better than Normal.
yup, agree. check this: ua-cam.com/video/UHscc4OFwiE/v-deo.htmlsi=-T-F2Q5WzlNzKB-V&t=388 at minute 8 another comparison for Normal and HLG just against the iphone and sony :) Also normal is always making it's decisions (sometimes dark sometimes a bit to sharp). I shot a big chunk of last year with HLG, but somehow I am not able to color grade it that well. D-log M became our go to because you can always make it sharper if you want.
yeah the pocket 3 still has almost everything the announced iPhone 16 has 4k120 with dlog m and HLG. so it remains to be seen. The iphone has always been a powerhouse.
Normal is decent but a bit too sharp. Here is THE SAME example but compared to 16 pro: ua-cam.com/video/D8AT7uh200c/v-deo.html You might like HLG more after watching it 🤣
Ahahahha absolutely, shot the footage around Jan. Beautiful snow there in Berlin. Stood on the edit for months (almost in this state you saw it) because i stopped posting for a year or so… And here we are :)…

I'm not sure what magic does the iphone do but in some cases it does look better. but as a rule, pocket 3 is the same in all cases. When i posted the footage on instagram a bit cropped and made it smaller. ppl chose the iphone. On the full screen you tend to side with the pocket 3
@@VictorReviewsGarage I have osmo pocket 3, but video footage from iphone is something else. All other phone manuf. can't touch it. Samsung with S24U is miles behind 15proMax video. And I have S24U. I also believe normal color, all auto, with reduced sharpness is pretty much on par with color graded D Log m. Regards
@@under90seconds- Image processing to make things look different than they are doesn't make it better. If you want a camera that shows what you see then pocket 3. If you want an artificial look then iphone. What looks good and feels good are two different things. It can't event do pics correctly without making skintones look more saturated.

iPHone. No physical gimbal. No amount of software algo can replace that. IMO.
I have IPhone 16 Pro Max, and it’s amazing. Nothing can equal a small gimbal, 1 inch sensor, and the low light of Pocket 3.
Normal looks alright to me.

It is better until you start shooting videos while walking in very low light condition.
