This man is a legend he is from my nearby town 30 minute drive from me and used to live down the road from me 10 minute drive an icon in the Irish books and l may say I am proud to be Irish 🍀🇮🇪

The lyrics were Written by Bobby Sands who died in kilbanum prison on a hunger strike. This was during Thatcher. Famous Canadian Gordon Lightfoot allowed Christy to use Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald melody for the song.
Edit it was Long Kesh prison or The Maze.

Just for your information Brian kilmanion prison not correct spelling he is correct with regards long Kesh for Bobby sands but the other prison was in Dublin that's where the Easter rising hero's where executed. Just for your information
