Hhhhactually Boba clearly had a white tunic underneath his armour in Return of the Jedi so he had to wear white without the armour after he escaped the Sarlacc, not necessarily to represent purity etc but to avoid continuity error.
Awesome recap. One thing I disagree with…. At the end of the episode the Tusken’s seem to be congratulating the youngling for taking down the 4-armed desert monster. If you watch closely, Boba is content letting him take credit. The Chieftain, on the other hand, sees right through the youngling’s story and quickly concludes there is no way he was able to strangle the monster. He realizes that Boba, in reality, must have killed it and quietly passes him the water. This then results in Boba being accepted by the TR’s and the rest is history.

One Easter egg that you missed was the importance of the Tusken’s Gaffi sticks. They are used to show the rank of the person among them. You see Bobba with no stick, the kid that actually has just a wooden stick through and up to the more complicated and ornamented chief’s stick.
True, not to mention he uses a similar Gaffi stick in Mando to the one he got beat down by the (assumingly female) Tusken Raider in this new episode of Book Of Fett. Huuurrr!! Huuuuurrrrrr!

Watched this with my dad who hasn't watched anything Star Wars since Return of Jedi. His first comment was, "Boba Fett is pretty resilient, he's been digesting in that pit since 1983." 🤣
@@ZenShroud1 how are you "pretty sure he'd dig it?" You literally know nothing about this person except that he doesn't care that much about star wars.
For those readers unaware, there is this idea of "fallen words". These are words whose meanings have either changed or were lost. One such word is "critic". Today, we see critics as giving their opinions on a work's value, but originally the job of the critic was to provide insight into the work. For example, the excellent job the writers at ScreenCrush do in providing insights into these shows and movies that actually improve the viewers perception of the original work. So there you go, a TLDR compliment. Great work guys.
People are complaining about boba not being ruthless when he literally can’t. Mans went through it in the sarlacc pit and was enslaved by sand people. He couldn’t fight those assassins that jumped him and fennec, so it’s very obvious that he needs time to heal
He was starving and probably nearly dying of thirst. Leaving him in no physical or even mental state to fight so it makes perfect sense. Also his body is probably still damaged and not as strong as it used to be.
he disintegrated those stormtroopers in the mandalorian and book of boba fett plays after those. to me it therefore felt a little bit odd that he was that "weak" it this episode. edit: or am i wrong about the timeline?
This is after the appearance in Mando yes. But completely different tactical situations… a bunch of hastily trained cannon fodder troopers vs these dudes that were way more competent and had ray shields. Shields that deflected the first blast boba tried so he didn’t use his other weapons because he didn’t wanna blow himself and fennec up. He was zapped by stun sticks over and over and over and still John Wayne’d his way through the fight. I don’t see that as weak at all.
Yeah I would agree that he's weak after coming out of the sarlacc pit, but being ruthless doesn't always require peak physical condition. He overpowered the Tusken kid that was guarding him and could have finished him.... but didn't. He could have "permanently silenced" the Rodian in his first escape attempt but didn't. He offered the Rodian help which didn't seem self serving but more like "honorable". He didn't punish the the guest who didn't bring a tribute and he spared the lives of the Gamorrean guards. Plenty of opportunities to be ruthless.
Also something to be noted is that the Krayt Dragon in the Mandalorian was actually a rare subspecies known as a Greater Krayt Dragon. These kinds of Krayt Dragons would basically swim in the sands as we see in The Mando Season 2. They were so rare that most Tusken Raiders went their whole lives without encountering one. They were also way larger than what we saw in the Mando because the majority of their body was usually kept within the sands. They had at least 10 legs allowing them to swim within the sands of Tatooine. With this being said, Jabba's Palace could still contain a regular Krayt Dragon as they were a lot smaller than their rarer cousins. They were still large creatures though, growing to sizes as large or larger than a full grown Rancor. Regular Krayt Dragons also looked more like actual dragons, minus the wings, and were lower to the ground like monstrous lizards. this type of Krayt was also way more common and lacked the ability to burrow in the sands instead making lairs within caves on Tatooine. I know I kind of went crazy on the lore there but I just wanted to throw this out there for anyone who wanted to know so there isn't any confusion. No hate towards the video or screencrush at all, I loved it! I always do! You make the best breakdown/easter egg videos out there!
I actually believe the Krayt Dragon in Mandalorian has not been confirmed as as a Greater Krayt Dragon. And instead is a different, so far unnamed sub-species. But i have not read into the Krayt dragons for a fair while now, so what i just said might be outdated.
@@lordnazar6382 I think it is generally believed to be Greater Krayt Dragon. Plus, it also resembles one, but if you are right and it isn’t, then it is definitely another subspecies very similar to the Greater Krayt. With that being said, it is definitely not a Canyon Krayt Dragon (the “regular” Krayt Dragon), because they are a lot smaller and look nothing like the Greater Krayt and/or the the one we see in the Mandalorian.
@@kadennewman9225 Oh, you're right about it not being a canyon Krayt Dragon. Too small, and too long of a neck for it. I do agree it looks very similliar to a Greater Krayt Dragon. I just ment to say that it has not been canonically anounced as such, as far as i'm aware. So for the time being it is considered its own sub-species
Idk, it sounds plausible but that's not what I got. My impression was that the kid was running with that things head basically saying "look what the human did!" That's why nobody cared that Boba was walking free of chains carrying the kid's stick.
@@MrLee-cy1pw thats what i got as well. Also the tusken kid could have been saying boba saved me. And thats why his dad was like, ok boba you can be free
@@MrLee-cy1pw I agree. He was making a gesture that someone choked the monster with the chain, and there's only one person that could've pulled that off.
Ryan, your “This is your mom” stinger will never get old, love to hear you place it in the most appropriate places. Thanks for pointing out all these awesome easter eggs and breakdown, they’re allways appreciated.
The monster in the desert is also a tribute to Ray Harryhausen. When it walks on four limbs, it throws it's shoulders and elbows back like so many of Harryhausen's creatures like the Cyclops and Troglodyte. It's face is very similar to the Ymir in "Twenty Million Miles to Earth".
They also kind of made it move in that Harryhausen GoMotion style. Which is cool because it's internally consistent to the Star Wars universe that some stuff just apparently moves that way.
@@noanyobiseniss7462 because it had four arms? Did you cry rip-off at the four armed character in Mortal Kombat. That was even closer. I've read all the Burrough Mars books (as well as his Tarzan, Pellucidar, and Carson on Venus books). Don't remember a Thark ever going into centaur mode.
A note on Moses: he wasn't sent to live among his own people, biblically he fled after accidentally killing an Egyptian guard who was beating a Hebrew slave. Pharoah's feelings on his ethnicity were never explored in the biblical text. I assumed the majority of Boba's scarring came from the acid in the Sarlacc's stomach itself coupled with double-sun exposure (especially since he never got to wash the stuff off), but the theory that burning his way out also cooked his armor is good! And painful. I don't want to comment just to point out "wrong" things (which are often subjective anyway), so thank you for making this video and helping us appreciate the show more. Happy New Year!
I agree that his scars were caused by the sarlacc stomach acid. You can even see its eaten through parts of him jumpsuit. Really doubtful it had anything to do with the flamethrower, but still a very interesting video. I'm not so familiar with the biblical texts to have a strong opinion there, but I did like the imagery parallels brought up between BoBF and The Ten Commandments. Seems like there are & will be more biblical tie-ins. Even the show's title alludes to that I'd think?
Heck yeah, although it's really a toss-up if the writers were alluding more to the scifi novel or the old testament. I liked that analysis. Either way they've definitely hit that Wild West/samurai film mashup feel dead center and I love it.
Totally agree with the scarring from the Sarlacc stomach acid. Even in the books it is mentioned that his skin is damaged from being partially digested.
@@sammykat2hb Maybe even some sword & sandal influence too with the beast effects! What this team seems to get is that it's not just the way things look that makes it Star Wars, it's the whole atmosphere & feelings the imagery evokes. By pulling from the same inspirations as the OT they avoid it just seeming like a copy and succeed in producing a natural extension of that world. Loving it too!
No purity symbol, the jumpsuit is pale green because that's the colour of Boba Fett's jumpsuit up until now. However, the Tusken tribe he is with wears black, and that's the colour of Fett's new jumpsuit, so that's a connection.
I felt like the four-armed desert monster was a little reminiscent of the kraken from 1981 version of "Clash of the Titans". Maybe it was just me, though.
Both were inspired by the Grandaddy of all Sci-Fi, a Thark from The Princess of Mars. This also indirectly links to the episode title from a book about Mars as well.
I got the feeling that the matron at the bar was in on the assassination attempt. It was smooth of her to put all the credits in his helmet, making sure he wouldn't be able to put it back on after he left. And lo and behold, as soon as they leave the building ...
Another great eater egg/ detail is that Matt berry is the second cast member from the IT crowd to voice a droid, with Richard ayoade as zero in the mandalorian
Omg, this series is going to kick ass!!! I popped so hard when Bobba escaped the Sarlacc pit. I'm hoping that, by the end of the final episode considering this is a "one and done" series, Bobba gets one hell of a send off. P.S. Thank goodness that the flashbacks are done the right way and pertinent to the story because SO MANY TIMES in shows and movies, they use flashbacks as fillers because the story can't stand on it's own.
Good stuff! One clarification on Moses: He wasn’t cast out by Pharaoh because he was Hebrew. He killed an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew (Exodus 2:12). He thought no one saw, but later when he was discouraging two Hebrews from fighting one of them said “Are you gonna kill me like you killed that Egyptian?” Moses feared that meant Pharaoh would find out what happened - and he did. He tried to kill Moses and he fled.
I presumed his clothing was bleached white from the chemicals the sarlacc uses to digest its victims for so long. I mean it goes along with the chemical burn scars all over Boba's body. Yikes, that kind of damage over time would explain why Boba was so weak on top of exposure sickness and dehydration; and still he kills that sand creature...BAMF Oof...was that a working skin?!
Some thing that you didn't mention was the music being played by Max Rebo's band was a more lounge like version of the Cantina Band music from A New Hope.
Stranger in a strange land is also an iron maiden song from the album somewhere in time. The song is about a man being frozen in time and being rediscovered. Just like Fett, after being "frozen" in the pit of the sarlacc, he was found again by tusken raiders.
The 4 armed creature at the end reminded me a lot of the Kraken at the end of the original Clash of the Titans. Not sure if it's a direct reference but there is definitely influences from that design. Robert Rodriguez is also a huge fan of Ray Harryhausen so it's probably more than a coincidence.
Love it so far. Almost no exposition! Really well done to show not tell. They very easily could have had him tell someone about his experiences instead. So glad they took the time to do it right.
0:38 Nice try, but Moses was not cast out when Pharoah discovered Moses' heritage. Moses fled Egypt for the land of Midian, because he killed an Egyptian who was beating another Hebrew.
Amazing opening episode, definitely has the feel of the mandalorian ,and the bad batch. The opening being silent really struck me as being just absolutely phenomenal.
Those assassin's that jumped Boba Fett appeared to be dressed similarly to Zam Wesell (color scheme and chest armor)... maybe a reach but she was tied to Jango Fett and the first thing I thought when I saw them was that they were all linked to some guild of assassins, but not necessarily Clawdites like Zam was.
This might be a stretch but they are dressed in mostly red and the Crimson Dawn theme plays at the end of Boba's new theme in the show so there could be link there. Edit: it's not quite at the end it's at around 1:50
The Tuscan's water drinking vessel looks like a spike less sea urchin, sea urchins are well enjoyed by Kiwis. I wonder if this was a little tribute to or better yet, a contribution from Temuera...🔥🔥🔥 episode.
I hope Dengar will appear in this series. I really like this character as much as bossk ,and boba. I think they make wonderful bounty hunter trio. Imagine them fighting during finale!!!.
Dengar, Bossk, and Cad Bane. That's all I want. Dengar and Bossk as council members of Boba's crime family, again, and rematch to the death with Cad Bane. Give us that showdown we never got.
@@Gesundheit2000 He is seen in one or two production stills on the barge interior set but you're right, I just went through the scene and he didn't make it into the final cut. So there's wiggle room there, I grant. :) In the process I spotted Bossk in there, though, I wonder what continuity issue THAT might have. Also, Bib Fortuna was on the barge, too, so they've already messed THAT up. ;)
In my head canon, he was drunk while celebrating with Jabba, which is why he was taken out so easily in RoTJ. Doesn't prove that, but I'm glad it doesn't disprove it either.
I think Fett was aware that Vader had a huge live bounty on Luke. When things started going sideways at the sail barge, Fett saw it as an opportunity to capture Luke--he jets over to the skiff and points his rifle at Luke point blank but doesn't fire (was hoping to intimidate him into a surrender). He then goes for a cable capture snare instead of the flame thrower or any number of other options at his disposal, and finally when Han shorted out his jetpack Fett was in the middle of very carefully attempting to line up a shot to disable Luke.
10:44 The Twi'lak Madame is played by Jennifer Beals the actress who played the role of a working class welder becoming a ballerina in the 1983 movie "Flashdance" She might play a major role in this series - in the tradition of old faded dancing stars coming back like Travolta in Pulp Fiction
The Nikto that were raiding the moisture farm aren’t necessarily Red Key Raiders, BoBF never says they’re RKR at any point whatsoever. They’re probably the Nikto speeder Gang we’ve seen in the trailers, not RKR. Their clothing doesn’t even match up.
I figured it was just a scene showing how chaotic things have gotten since Jabba died, with all the gangs on Tatooine grabbing what they can. I figured the show would be Boba consolidating his position on Tatooine by bringing all these criminal elements to heal. And keeping them from picking on poor old moisture farmers.
One error, Ryan: Malakili is the name of the Rancor keeper we see in Jedi, the one that cries over the death of his pet. Otherwise, great video as always.
Boba & Max Rebo surviving the Sarlacc Pit and destruction of Jabba's Sail Barge might be references to certain segments from the Robot Chicken Star Wars specials? The alien that Boba kills in the flashback reminded me of a combination of the Ymir (from 20 Million Miles to Earth), the Sleestak (from Land of the Lost) & a Centaur I'm wondering if Hondo Ohnaka (from Clone Wars & Rebels) or an older Omega (from Bad Batch) might appear in this new series?
The flash back / current events story telling is very reminiscent of how Arrow was told. I think we may get the whole season like this so we can both see where Boba is heading and where he has come from.
The invaders lookes more like the guys from the Cob Vanth episode to me... This whole episode gave me godfather/ Sinbad vibes from the stop motion puppet to the miniature sets to I think painting sets in the opening
90's for me but I'm right there with ya! This show is really a gift to long-time fans and I know it's disappointed some people that they're not following the old EU to the letter, but so far I feel like it's a perfectly good way of handling this story. May we continue to enjoy it all season & also enjoy all the other new Star Wars IP's coming in 2022!
Actually he might still have a krate dragon. The one we’ve seen was a special case as it was a great krate dragon. I have a feeling like krate dragons are going to be a lot like the Komodo dragon and it’s offshoots in real life. They come in all different shapes and sizes. Some being almost as big as you and others just as big as a cat.
I agree! The skeleton of a Krayt Dragon is seen by threepio in ANH when he finds the Jawas sandcrawler. That was nowhere near as big as the one in the Mandalorian
I'm surprised they didn't discuss the Easter egg of when boba Fett looked up at the night sky and you could see princess Leia lifting her arthritic hand and flying in space. Oh because that crap didn't happen. That first episode was so enjoyable to watch. I only wish that they had two episodes for us to watch opening night because it seemed like it was over in 5 minutes. All I can say about that first episode is bravo!!!
Yesss! Thank you for the Fett's Vette reference. During the "Tribute" scene I turned to my wife and said "Well Jabba's dead and he's still gotta finance his Vette"
One of the Tuskan's had the same staff that Boba had in the Mandalorian. I believe it was the one he fought at night. Perhaps he wins it in a future fight or it is gifted to him once he is accepted into the tribe.
Screencrush has quickly became my most watched youtube channel. Found you back when the Loki series came out and I had zero knowledge about Marvel. Big fan of this channel, its content, and effort!🖤
I especially liked that the Gamorians who we get to see kicking ass are implied to be the same ones Luke choked out in Return of the Jedi. Also Fennec Shand comments that Boba should’ve let these guy’s carry him. Which they ended up doing, but only after getting beat up and robbed very publicly. Ironically, the other bit of advice Fennec gave Boba was to get rid of these Gamorians. When they’re encircled by the dude’s with phase shields and can’t jump out this is visually similar to being trapped in the Sarlacc. Only Boba’s newfound code of ethics from the Tusken Raiders is the slimy mass of tentacles keeping him from flying out this time.
@@ioncewasmikey dunno if they actually name drop Jabba… but Fennec and the torture bot suggest they should just kill the Gamorreans… the implication being their loyalty isn’t worth much, having sworn it to both Bib Fortuna and his boss before him. Jabba was sound asleep when Luke arrived and died not long after. The two guards Luke choked were left unconscious in the hallway at this point and nearly every other Gamorrean we see in Return of the Jedi is either eaten by the rancor, blown up, or sliced to bits on a sand skiff. So I guess technically it’s just my own Ockham’s Razor, process of elimination head cannon that these two dudes specifically were left behind at the palace and spared Luke’s wrath 🤷🏼♂️
@@deadmaninc0101 Yeah, I posted and then I noticed a ton of folks already called. Oh well. I really like Ryan and ScreenCrush’s videos regardless. He just comes across as so nice and genuine. I don’t mean to nitpick at any rate.
Oh my god of that was a clone trooper can you imagine how eerie and cool it would have been for Boba to rip the helmet off and see his own face? Huge missed opportunity.
I think the 4 armed creature at the end of the episode was more a reference to Ray Harryhausen and his work in early cinema as it looks and even moves in a similar way to his.
I loved the tune played by the Max Rebo's band, which was the same tune from the cantina in New Hope but Rodriguezed, giving it more of Mexican guitar vibe. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a cameo by Rodriguez himself, who is a talented guitarist.
@@benschroeder4036 yeah, I know that, but still the way that tune was played makes me think. Just like the Malaguena Salerosa got Chingonised in Kilka Bill
I think that Mad Max and Clash of the Titans are also being referenced in this episode. The four armed beast is clearly an homage to Ray Harryhausen and the Kraken from Clash of the Titans.
It's not the same tentacle, or at least, it can't be said to be the same tentacle. Han shot it to free Lando and the sarlacc pulled it back; it wasn't destroyed to the point of non-use. The sarlacc is still alive as Luke flies away with his friends, up until Fett blows it up from the inside. More likely that tentacle just happened to land there as it spasmed about in its death throes. Calling it "tHat'S tHe TeNtAcLe tHaT GrAbBeD LaNdO!" is a *big* stretch.
I’m curious why they keep juxtaposing him with Darth Vader. I know they’re both burned, but I have a feeling they’re hinting at something more than that. Orphaned during AOTC, Trauma from Tuskens, burned alive and barely survived (including an iconic shot of their hand), the bacta tanks, taken in by a group and raised to be a warrior, their helmets make the same sealing sound when they’re put on, both of them have a castle on the planet their life changed forever, etc.
In the original Prequel scripts they were going to be brothers but George scrapped it because it felt too campy. I kinda like the idea of Boba and Vader's lives having gone in similar directions as an homage to that, but whereas Vader becomes less honorable, Boba becomes more honorable. Especially considering that Filoni really plays up the similarities between the Jedi/Sith and the Mandolorians. Boba really is like a Mando version of Vader. Some other similarities I see: They are both members of a warrior culture (Sith for Vader, Mandolorians for Boba) but aren't entirely respected as such by their peers because of their complicated background. One was born without a father, the other without a mother Both were taken off guard and humiliated by Han Solo, literally a normal guy who flies by the seat of his pants. Boba spent his adolescence wanting to kill Mace Windu. Vader succeeded. Vader's major turning point in the later part of his life was discovering his son. Maybe Boba will also have a child of some kind come into his life and serve as a motivation? From what we've seen of him he seems kinda fond of the ladies, so maybe he has a son or daughter running around out there we don't know about yet.
In the real world whenever someone falls there's always a dog around that will investigate and smell their face while they're in agony, but in Star Wars there's always a jawa ready to rob them blind. xD
I love this show already and Temuera Morisson playing Boba is a dream come true. But I can't stop thinking about how TM is all buff and muscular when the original Boba was slim like a needle
Since when was the Rancor named Malakili? It’s name was Pateesa. Malakili was the rancor keeper that cried when it died. If you need a new writer I will do it for just slightly more than what you pay your current guy but I will get the facts correct.
Heavy metal band Iron Maiden also did a song called 'stranger in a strange land' base on the novel you cite. I would love to see their zombie mascot Eddie turn up possibly in a Mos Eisley bar scene as an extra Easter egg.
"Stranger in a Strange Land" is also an Iron Maiden song, from their 1986 album; "Somewhere in Time." (So, I mean, if you _really_ need to way over-read into things lol I'd call that just about as, if not even more, appropriate.) I mean, it's not nearly as much of a stretch as Boba's white jumpsuit being some symbolic metaphor for his "purity," lol I'll admit, but still.... (I'm just sayin' ✌)
Given the FX heritage of Star Wars I'd be damned if that "Goro" sand monster wasn't meant to be an homage to the Ray Harryhausen designed Kraken from the 1981 Clash of the Titans
It seems to me the Tuskens are going to come to respect him over time as he proves his worth more and more, and even accept him into their tribe. The one Tusken that gave him water at the end knew it wasn't really the kid that took out that four-armed beast...
Easter eggs are usually little nods here and there placed in backgrounds, I think people get this confused with continuity , he have to place certain items in scenes so it flows from previous movies.
Great video. The monster that Boba strangles is a clear reference to Ray Harryhauen's Kraken from the 80's film Clash of the Titans in just about every way, except that the Kraken was aquatic.
I really thought the moisture farm was the same house as the Lars estate from the prequels and original trilogy. Surely it would’ve been cleaned up by then and changed hands, plus Luke mentions Anchorhead, meaning that it should be close to the area anyway. Same house shape and the distance between the power station and the house itself seems to be the same
This is probably a stupid question, but for the life of me, I'm stumped... Why did Boba need to be rushed back to the bacta tank at the end of Ep. 1? In the Mandalorian, he was absolutely bad-ass in that brawl when he bested countless Stormtroopers with his gaffi stick, then here he doesn't seem to be half as imposing as he did then, AND he seems weakened more than one would expect. I get that his old injuries are still in the process of healing, but they were even less healed in Mando's tale, yet Boba seemed more powerful. Am I missing something?
Just a correction on the Moses tie-in: the movie version had Moses forced out when he was discovered to be a Hebrew. Biblically, he fled from the Pharaoh after Moses murdered an Egyptian for abusing a fellow Hebrew.
Did anyone else think that the monster was going to rip that red Greedo guy from all 4 corners? It's too bad the guy only stomped on, it's not every day you see fights with a 4-armed creature haha
Slight correction: you said Moses was forced to live among his people after pharaoh found out he was a Hebrew. This is actually incorrect, Moses was raised by pharaoh's daughter but she sent for his Hebrew mother the moment she found him and he was weaned by his birth mother. It wasn't until Moses murdered an Egyptian that Moses fled Egypt and lived among the midianites, not his own people.
Kind of right about the Droid you called R-3X. Technically that would only refer to DJ R-3X in Oga's Cantina on Batuu. The droid is actually one of the RX-24 pilot droids from Star Tours (Captain Rex). It is great to see more RX droids in Star Wars media since I've always loved the design since I was a wee one.

@@snack711 true I was thinking that too but aside from beating some fodder stormtroopers he didn’t do much else in the show
This is after the appearance in Mando yes.
The Tusken boy was taking credit for killing the four-arm monster but the leader knew better and thanked Boba for what he did...

Finally!!! I was looking all over for this comment!! Nobody remembered
*The 4 armed monster reminds me of Ray Harryhausen's Stop-Motion creatures*
Yes! Reminding me so much of the Kraken from the original Clash of the Titans. I don’t think that was an accident.
Very Harryhauseny, it was beautiful.
Man you just solved a 20 year conundrum for me. I remember seeing TMMtE as a kid and thinking it was badass. Didn't know what that film was until now.
They also kind of made it move in that Harryhausen GoMotion style. Which is cool because it's internally consistent to the Star Wars universe that some stuff just apparently moves that way.
Its a complete rip off from John Carter Warlord of mars.
Read the book.
Yeah I thought it looked exactly like the Kraken from Clash of the Titans. Couldn’t be a coincidence.
If we gett to see live-action flash backs I hope they give us BoBa vs Cade Bane.
9:39 *I'm glad that I'm not the only one who recognized those Spots, I recognized them as soon as I saw their silly walking.*
When I saw them, I smiled.
That was my first thought too.
It obviously was a homage to the creatures created by Ray Harryhausen, and Clash of the Titans was his last film.
Both were inspired by the Grandaddy of all Sci-Fi, a Thark from The Princess of Mars. This also indirectly links to the episode title from a book about Mars as well.
Pretty sure the Tuscan kid was taking credit for killing Goro, and the chief, not being an idiot, hands Boba the gourd as a silent acknowledgement.
Exactly
I got the feeling that the matron at the bar was in on the assassination attempt. It was smooth of her to put all the credits in his helmet, making sure he wouldn't be able to put it back on after he left. And lo and behold, as soon as they leave the building ...
@jjstarrpod good point about the credits in the helmet!
Another great eater egg/ detail is that Matt berry is the second cast member from the IT crowd to voice a droid, with Richard ayoade as zero in the mandalorian
That was my first thought. I wanted Boba to say "I'm disabled"
I wanted 8D8 to say "f♡
Also, they looked nothing like the people in those movie clips lol
thanks for writing this, I wanted to write something similar but I didnt know how to write what I want to say
That's what happens when your Biblical knowledge comes from watching The 10 Commandments.
I presumed his clothing was bleached white from the chemicals the sarlacc uses to digest its victims for so long. I mean it goes along with the chemical burn scars all over Boba's body.
Yikes, that kind of damage over time would explain why Boba was so weak on top of exposure sickness and dehydration; and still he kills that sand creature...BAMF
Oof...was that a working skin?!
I believe the 4 armed, “Sand Creature”, is a direct homage to the, “Kraken”, sea monster from the 1981, “Clash of the Titans”.
Beat me to it. It's what I thought immediately
The best thing was they showed boba from where he was left in return of the jedi!
Yes! Only time I started a series and immediately knew what was happening! That was a bad a$$ way to start.
It’s one of the basics of good directing, always show don’t tell, Robert Rodriguez sure knows and loves his craft and it shows.
Yeah they had him get beat up by everything on tatooine and then get dragged around as a slave which just ruined everything i was hoping for
That's kinda been the method for all of the Dis+ shows (both Marvel and Star Wars) so far. Can't wait to see how this story turns out.
Hearing Matt Berry say “Bib Fortunaaaaa” made my day 👌🏼
0:38 Nice try, but Moses was not cast out when Pharoah discovered Moses' heritage. Moses fled Egypt for the land of Midian, because he killed an Egyptian who was beating another Hebrew.
The opening inside the Sarclacc Pit was AWESOME
Should note that the Krayt Dragon in Mandalorian was a Greater Krayt Dragon. Krayt Dragon's themselves are smaller.

Watch the Clone Wars episode "Bounty"
The guys that attacked Boba remind me of the ones in that.
Actually Fennec was dressed exactly like Zam Wessell.
This might be a stretch but they are dressed in mostly red and the Crimson Dawn theme plays at the end of Boba's new theme in the show so there could be link there.
Edit: it's not quite at the end it's at around 1:50
*assassins. No apostrophe unless you are showing possession. Just add "s" to pluralize in this case.

In the process I spotted Bossk in there, though, I wonder what continuity issue THAT might have.
And she looked great!!!
Malakilli is not the name of the Rancor. It is the name of the Rancor Keeper. The man who cares for him
Thanks for pointing that out! I did too because I hadn't come across your comment yet lol 😅
Also Stranger in a strange land is an Iron Maiden song from their Somewhere in Time album at 1986.
Boba & Max Rebo surviving the Sarlacc Pit and destruction of Jabba's Sail Barge might be references to certain segments from the Robot Chicken Star Wars specials?
The alien that Boba kills in the flashback reminded me of a combination of the Ymir (from 20 Million Miles to Earth), the Sleestak (from Land of the Lost) & a Centaur
I'm wondering if Hondo Ohnaka (from Clone Wars & Rebels) or an older Omega (from Bad Batch) might appear in this new series?
The flash back / current events story telling is very reminiscent of how Arrow was told. I think we may get the whole season like this so we can both see where Boba is heading and where he has come from.
Can’t wait to see how many more MC Chris references you drop throughout this series 😂

Ryan @6:10 in your video you’ll also see the Egyptian reference in the tents. They look just like the pyramids to the right side…. Missed that one!

*dudes. You don't use an apostrophe unless you are showing possession.
How was it implied that those were the same Gamorreans choked by Luke? I missed that.

The Boston Dynamic robots broke my brain a bit the first time I watched the episode!
the shields that the assassins are using are a nod to Master and Apprentice, in which the black guard use them against qui gonn and obi wan
That Fett's Vette line drop was perfect and you should be proud.
Some other similarities I see:
They are both members of a warrior culture (Sith for Vader, Mandolorians for Boba) but aren't entirely respected as such by their peers because of their complicated background.
One was born without a father, the other without a mother
Both were taken off guard and humiliated by Han Solo, literally a normal guy who flies by the seat of his pants.
@@BlokHeadAnim Honestly, if Boba and Vader were established as brothers in the prequels, i would've never bothered to watch them.
@@Smileyreal Oh yeah no, like same. It would have been way too much

You mentioned each episode having a flashback, hopefully one of those is when got the dent on his helmet during duel with Cad Bane
I love this show already and Temuera Morisson playing Boba is a dream come true. But I can't stop thinking about how TM is all buff and muscular when the original Boba was slim like a needle
I get why they chose Temuera but i think he is too short to be Bobba Fett. Bobba in my mind is more tall and lanky. Not short and stout.
He is barely taller than Fennic.
Malakili isn't the rancors name. That's his handler
The four armed creature at the end reminded me of one of the holochess (Dejarik) creatures from A New Hope.
I think Stranger in a Strange Land also refers to Boba being taken in by the Tusken Raiders (eventually) and being "raised" in their ways.
Love the noise from the helmet going on, same as the noise of Vader's. Sounds like a pressure seal.
Since when was the Rancor named Malakili? It’s name was Pateesa. Malakili was the rancor keeper that cried when it died. If you need a new writer I will do it for just slightly more than what you pay your current guy but I will get the facts correct.
Also, the Nikto dudes that were raiding the moisture farm weren't Red Key Raiders. They're that Nikto swoop gang we've seen in the trailers.
Heavy metal band Iron Maiden also did a song called 'stranger in a strange land' base on the novel you cite. I would love to see their zombie mascot Eddie turn up possibly in a Mos Eisley bar scene as an extra Easter egg.
"Stranger in a Strange Land" is also an Iron Maiden song, from their 1986 album; "Somewhere in Time." (So, I mean, if you _really_ need to way over-read into things lol I'd call that just about as, if not even more, appropriate.)
I mean, it's not nearly as much of a stretch as Boba's white jumpsuit being some symbolic metaphor for his "purity," lol I'll admit, but still....
(I'm just sayin' ✌)
Malakili was the Rancor keeper, the Rancor we see in ROTJ was named Pateesa
Given the FX heritage of Star Wars I'd be damned if that "Goro" sand monster wasn't meant to be an homage to the Ray Harryhausen designed Kraken from the 1981 Clash of the Titans
Loved this first episode, excited for new Star Wars
When boba returns in the mandalorian he is wearing black robes like the tuskens
It looks like a mix of the Kraken and Ymir from 20 Million Miles to Earth.
Both of which were Harryhausen creations. Good point.
This video has everything Doug, Matt Berry, TJ and Dave and shade at Middleditch and Schwartz! Best video ever!
The movie was better
Don't forget the subtle tribute to Ray Harryhausen during the fight with the desert centaur
Did anyone else think that the monster was going to rip that red Greedo guy from all 4 corners? It's too bad the guy only stomped on, it's not every day you see fights with a 4-armed creature haha
It's Disney. Probably not going to see that kind of gore. Lol
This is fast becoming my favorite pop culture channel
Slight correction: you said Moses was forced to live among his people after pharaoh found out he was a Hebrew. This is actually incorrect, Moses was raised by pharaoh's daughter but she sent for his Hebrew mother the moment she found him and he was weaned by his birth mother. It wasn't until Moses murdered an Egyptian that Moses fled Egypt and lived among the midianites, not his own people.
I like how you appear to be a Blockbuster employee with shelves of videos behind you. I like it all. well done.
Who else screamed at the hand out of the sand? Instantly thought of Patton Oswald 😅
Boba’s escape from the sarlaac pit mirrors exactly what Patton Oswalt lays out in his filibuster on Parks and Rec
