I don’t mind this being a Din Djarin centric episode at all like some others do. I think the writers are trying to say with this episode that people shouldn’t see The Mandalorian and BoBF as two separate shows but as one big Mandalore saga.
I don’t know what others are saying, but I think it’s sad (and why I haven’t greatly enjoyed BoBF) that the best episode of Boba Fett’s show doesn’t even have Boba Fett in it.
I love how Mando said "Wizard" after finishing the podrace track in the N1 fighter. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are making me like things I didn't expect to.
Wizard was used very commonly by younglings, supposedly going as far back as the high republic. Interesting how the phrase stuck around in a non Jedi centric way.
@@williamhenderson1161 Except it's not, they likely wouldn't fit. Also he'd never be able to place a bounty in carbonite. As far as a bounty hunter ship goes, the N1 would be a terrible pick. Also no space for any of his gear really.
I like the theory that the Naboo Starfighter that Mando has is the same one Obi-Wan took from Naboo to Tatooine seeing as how the last planet he visited before the dustball was Naboo, makes sense he would have taken one. Also @20:06 that isn't a Rodian kid, it's a (presumably) human kid wearing a helmet and holding a mini X-Wing, as you can see from the hands and neck area under the helmet, which looks like the kid has hair (that Rodians do not)
1:35 it's called a training saber. Part of their training long before they make their own involves using training sabers. This means that once they are able to make their sabers they will be relatively proficient and not slice off their own skin like mando does. Training sabers are capable of combat but are low power, instead of high temp beams that burn through objects. It is more akin to a taser effect when hit, and in higher skill lvls could cause burns. Lightwhips are actually of similar power output (however have long and flexible 'ropelike' beams) I have a book somewhere that talks about all kinds of jedi based content not shared within the films. Even details on how force sight really works once you are well trained (it follows a order 66 survivor)
I'd like to add that car guys around the world related to his Galactic cops pullover saying "he just finished building it and was taking it for a quick test run and didn't have time to register it" Literally what everybody says after they get caught speeding in their project car the first time.
I'd also add that BD scanning and projecting the hologram is just like in Jedi Fallen Order when BD scans various objects or environments and pulls up 3D models of the map. So cool.
That flashback of the destruction of Mandalore was definitely a homage to the opening of Terminator 2. It was one of the best scenes I've seen in the Star Wars series.
The whole timeline changed at the end of rebels, when Ezra pulled Ahsoka out of combat with Vader, preventing her death. Because she is alive she is able to direct Mando to that planet with the force beacon. So Luke can come and save them. In The Mandalorian when Luke shows up imagine what would have happened without Luke. Every body dies and Grogu becomes a lab rat to make Snoke.
What if Snoke is Grogu? He is the force from within stollen from Grogu in a very dark way and Snokes body is deformed from the process. Which in turn ended up killing Grogu. There’s something to think about. Lol
@@shailonnoelle7175 - hopefully people like you will eventually shut up!!! The ST is not that bad, GTF over it already. Your obsession actually proves you're the problem, not the movies. Get a life
The episode does not depict a Dyson Sphere, it depicts a ring version of an O'Neil Cylinder, famously featured on Larry Niven's Ringworld. Also, the native inhabitants of Malastare are the Dug (aka Sebulba from Episode 1). The species mentioned in 2:22 is called Gran. The Gran colonized Malastare at some point.
Not only this, but where he says it's open ended to let sunlight filter through, that is completely incorrect as the ring we see is based on Ringworld which has blinders around the star to simulate a day/night cycle. But the day/night cycle here seems to be 45seconds long for some ridiculous reason.
Correct that it doesn't depict a Dyson Sphere, but it is one manifestation of his theory. It's one version of a Dyson Ring. Dyson's theory includes arrays, swarms, solid rings, arrayed spheres, full shell spheres, etc. The smaller constructs because he understood the scale of materials to construct a full spherical shell is basically impossible.
When Kanan was training Sabine in rebels he mentioned that the more you connect with the darksaber it becomes lighter. So maybe this is why he feels it heavy
Darksaber sounds like it's waiting for its true master, another Mandalorian with force-sensitivity. It sounds like a bit like the Sword in the Stone, if the Stone was a Jedi.
@@trevorlane I don’t think so, other people who aren’t force sensitive have wielded the dark saber with ease. At least I hope not, I love Din as a character and hope he’s around for the long haul. I also want to see much more of him with the dark saber since he did win it in combat, so by tradition it is his.
Sabine had trouble with it originally because Kanan also told her that she's fighting against the blade. She kept holding back. Once Sabine faced her fears & overcame them...then the darksaber bacame much easier to use. Din's fighting his fears or perhaps even more, his purpose in successfully getting the darksaber.
I so much love the scene in which Din Jarin delivers the bounty to his employers, that from the moment the bag comes on screen, till he walks out of the elevator. That the entire scene was filmed in 1 single shot! Showing of how powerful and versatile the Volume is. Havinf an animated background making it look like the elevator goes up and down. If you would look closely to the low lip at the beginning of the scene, is the same as the low lip in the bar/dancehall. and that de camera does not turn right before he steps in the elevator the first time (going up), loops around to show the bar that was behind the camera at the start of the scene. But when back down at the end of the scene Din walks into the same space that was the bar and passed the camera. Some really use of set, camera direction and the volume to animate an make it look like Din moves on two separate storeys.
15:19 The scene where Peli was pulled by the womp rat is directly similar to the opening scene in Jurassic Park, where Jophery was pulled by the Velociraptor. As part of the franchise, Bryce Dallas Howard continues to put Jurassic Park references into the Star Wars episodes she directed.
That "nitpicks and review" section was pretty good. Always good to listen to what Ryan thinks about the shows/movies he analyses! Hopefully we'll get more of these!
I personally wondered why they would have a centric Mando episode in a Season that is not his own. Not that I am complaining or anything, is just that I find it very odd. While I wouldn't change anything of the episode, I feel like they could have put in Boba's Perspective on what is happening with Mando. Maybe he argues with his members on bringing in Mando into the team as his muscle. Maybe he could be tracking/spying on Mando's movement by Holographic-shenanigans, and then we end the episode same way. That way it gives us intrigued on what was Mando was doing, which then can be explained with this episode as the first episode of Season 3, syncing both scenes at the same time. Kind of like, How Marvel fans are syncing in Kang's feeling of the multiverse being open, with Wanda's transformation as the scarlet witch, Venom being in the MCU, Spiderman breaking Stephen's Spell, etc. I don't know but that is just my personal opinion...
Re: the Darksaber training scene - It’s less a general count that she’s giving (1, 2, 3, 4) but rather she’s calling out the strikes or angles of attack she’s using, a la HEMA treatises, so that he knows how to parry certain attacks. Like, if I’m not mistaken, a #1 angle of attack is the sword blade going from upper right to lower left. Etc
When Peli first shows Mando the N-1 she says "I know she doesn't look like much" much like how Han Solo says, "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid." And when Mando plugs the hose in to charge, it makes a suction "thud" sound reminiscent to Vader's helmet being put on in Empire. 🤘🏻
My problem with the speeder gang is your exact problem with ‘too close to real life in Star Wars’ in England. The fact they are called the mods, have vespa style speeders with tons of mirrors and a couple of the gang even dress like mods. All we need is The Who playing to top it off. It’s way too on the nose but I guess US audiences wouldn’t notice it as much as UK ones do
Actually, I think it's a great nod to history and an effective story telling tool. It's also a bit of a "life imitating art imitating life" scenario. But you need to look at the deeper meaning behind things. The Mods vs Rockers clashes of 1964 are clearly the intended reference when we look at the SW Mods vs the Kintan Striders. This is reinforced by the bar scene where Boba kills the thugs & steals their "bikes" for the Tuskan Raiders to use against the Pyke Syndicate train. The "biker bar" is an established movie trope to establish a demographics' connection with motorcycles and thuggery. What may not be apparent though is that it also represents the "Old School" vs "New School" fandoms which have come to prominence. You have the "traditionalist" fans (Rockers) who are regimental in what is acceptable Star Wars content. They are vocal in calling out that which does not meet with their opinion of what constitutes "Star Wars" (e.g. sequel trilogy). They live & breathe Star Wars. And then you have the "Fashionista" fans (Mods). They've jumped on the Star Wars bandwagon because it is seen to be trendy. They're only interested in the "keep me entertained with a story" but pay no regard to the history or "lore" which went into originally creating it. The Rockers think the Mods are destroying music with their different "modern" sound. They don't accept scooters to be "real motorcycles". Rockers think Mods are "pretenders". This parallels a lot of what we are seeing in the clash of Star Wars the Star Wars fandom. Rockers thinking the new content created without regard to what happened in the past as being destructive and somehow the Mods are tarnishing that which is tantamount to their Rocker existence.
@@15uzu I fully understand that. You didn’t need to go into it. I just didn’t like how on the nose it is. It could’ve been way more subtle. You need to not assume everyone is dumb. It’s poor story telling at its finest. Carry on finding reason to like it though 👍
I think that the flashbacks work really well. It gives Boba's backstory from his point of view and then places you in the present creating a kind of anticipatory tension. I kept wanting to see what happened next in each time line. Switching to Din Djarin doesn't stop the flow of the story; it creates a second "thread." This is the technique Tolkien used in writing LOTR. It builds suspense and makes you eager to know what happened in the other thread and how they will meet to complete the story. Great story telling. Thanks for showing all the Easter eggs -- so many you can't catch them all.
I don't believe his stories necessary, they didn't tell it in the first trilogy. I'm more interested to see if Din Djarin holds on to the dark saber & if bo-katan tries something to get it from him.
While agree that the flashbacks are great, and there is a bit of a Godfather II vibe because they do reflect what’s happening in the present (eg Boba learns about survival as a tribe is necessary and then tries to use it in the present). But, I feel like a whole episode dedicated to Din wound up stopping the flow. It was almost like they knew that viewers would get bored after four shows and then realized they need to bring in Mando to keep the audience engaged. I would have liked to see them run the Mando storyline along side Boba’s. there seemed like 3-4 distinct chapters in the last episode (bounty hunting, working with the armorer, rebuilding the fighter, etc.) and you could run them in parallel. Just a thought.
This was easily the best episode of Mando or Boba yet! the ship they built at the end brought back memories of anakin flying it out of naboo. And then him flying it through the pod racing arena!!!!! Thank you so much for making something this good!!!!
The artificial ring is most likely based on the idea from Larry Niven's novel Ringworld. It's not a hole in the ring that creates the shadows but a series of evenly-placed panels that orbit a central sun, creating periods of night and day on the surface
"Glavis was a ring world that contained a city home to a variety of species. Orbiting mirrors provided day and night cycles for those living on the interior of the ring. During the New Republic Era, Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin visited the ring to locate The Tribe." As described in the Wookieepedia, Glavis is a direct reference to Larry Niven's RingWorld and it is not a open ring, but a closed one with mirrors in a inner orbit to simulate the day/night cycles.
Best episode of the season so far, hands down. The scene where he says "A little higher" also references the first Ironman where RDJ is building the MK2 and the "Dummy" robot can't hold the magnifying glass in the right place while RDJ is soldering the leg armor
I dont have any problem with Din being the star of the episode, despite the fact that the show is called The Book of Boba Fett it's a part of a larger story and I'm sure Boba will get time in other series the same way. I also love the show as a whole despite it not being what people would expect from Boba, I find it refreshing and an evolution for the character. Boba is getting older, wiser, he's taken a lot of hard hits and gotten the shit kicked out of him for years and did it all for other people. I don't think many people would want to be constantly putting their life on the line for people they don't know and don't like let alone doing it their whole life. Boba as a character deserves more and deserves to evolve, sure he talks more and tries to come to peaceful solutions when possible but he is still Boba Fett and he definitely can and will still flip the switch to beast mode when he has to, but you can't blame him for wanting something better. Yeah seeing him be nothing but sheer badass would be cool but it would get boring without some kind of growth. People will talk smack until he's leading his own small army from on top of a rancor and jumping off it to merc a bunch of mercenaries and assassins.
Agreed! To understand how Boba got to where he is now you had to have some sort of flashbacks or way to tell where he was after Return of the Jedi. Maybe it went on a bit too long at 4 episodes but it was necessary. I really don’t understand why people have been so down on it. I hope we see Boba regularly and hopefully he meets Omega!
For me, when mando is telling the bd droid to move higher and its not listening, it reminded me of iron man 1 with tonys droid DUMe. and because its jon favreau I don't think that's too far off
That Starfighter flight scene is also reminiscent of the same movie when Tony flew in his Mark II armor in that chrome finish, fly by with a kid in sight, and then later was intercepted by two pilots
Theory: We'll learn that Boba Fett really doesn't want to be a Crime Lord but it was the only thing he could think of doing and was being opportunistic. It's also why he's naive and bad at it. He'll join up with Mando to restore Mandalore to it's formal glory and he'll find his tribe again.
Fett will join the Mudhorn Clan. That's why we had to catch up on what Din's been doing. This is how Fett will get his tribe, not with the Crime Lords on Tatooine. (That doesn't mean he has to give up the position of crime boss, lol.) The Mudhorn Clan is the clan the Armorer declared Din and Grogu to be in the finale of S1. If Din does rule Mandalore, others will probably follow.
I don’t think we will see Grogu this season. There’s 2 episodes left, and Boba still has to complete his team and prepare for the fight. I feel this is a teaser for season 3 of Mandalorian.
I agree. Djin will probably return in the heat of the fight against the pikes wielding the darksaber properly. Mando season 3 kicking off with Grogo vissit. I hope so.
But Mando says he needs to see Grogu first before he helps Boba so Mando will see Grogu before he can fight for Boba. Maybe he'll do it off screen and we'll see the reunion in Season 3.
Maybe ge visted Grogu off screen and ep 6 is how boba found rest of his team. As much i like Luke, it would make 0 sense if he shows up and fights for Boba! I think also Luke and Grogu ate one Daggobah and will stay their and train in silence. In can happen the Mando go their too and Luke say him he can teach him use that Blade! But i think Mando is no one Episode off and come in Ep 7! I dont mind ep 5 was a mando episode mando season has also ep 5 who ahsoka 6 boba and 8 was the highlight luke return so i am okay we see what Mando is doing. And also people season 3 will maybe come in 2023 its okay we get one mando episode!
One thing I noticed about the N-1 was the glass bubble where the astromech droid would normally be. My first thought jumped to how freaking adorable it would be to see Grogu sitting in that little bubble as they cruise along, just loving the speed haha
R5-D4's motivator wasn't bad. It was retconned in the current canon that the droid FAKED a bad motivator by directing too much pressure under his dome's flap only to make sure R2-D2 (who told him about the dire situation the Galaxy is in) is picked up instead of him.
Also the “weight “ of the sword deals with a long-standing issue of why do Jedi swing a saber like it’s heavy when lasers are weightless? Seems to suggest the weapons have a force of their own and not being one with it makes them heavier
I liked it. I've had fun watching all the episodes. I couldn't build a LEGO N-1 fighter faster enough. Do you think he'll name it or just call it "his ship?"
Din Djarin tells The Armorer, "Loyalty and solidarity are the way." Interesting, since those are qualities that Boba Fett has already demonstrated as daimyo. I strongly believe Boba will be eventually led into the whole Mandalore storyline.
I think it's interesting that Din is literally Mandalore now, and the armorer immediately began questioning and reindoctrinating him. I see her becoming an antagonist.
So, when the armorer says, “sadly, they only exist in legends.” when talking about the Mythosaur, were they settling a debate about whether or not they are canon?
she literally says the name that Disney gave to the old canon it can't be more clear thant that maybe if she took off the helmet and blinked to the camera
I have to say, seeing the Naboo starship put the biggest grin on my face ever. I wasn't expecting that something like that would make me feel so nostalgic. Love them or hate them, the prequels were my childhood.
Both are correct. The Millenium Falcon is like having an old truck that can go 0 to 60 in 2 seconds and the N-1 is akin to getting a WW2 Jeep and customizing it for drag. Both should be shit.
Definitely the best episode of the series so far. I too felt weird at first watching it, but then remembered that both The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett are a continuous story written by Jon Favreau. So it does work in the greater world of Star Wars and if watched as one series.
BUT, without skin or limbs, are you so sure you wouldn't mistake a human carcass for an animal..? I read the scene as not wanting to distract with visceral detail. For the meat to be a part of the Set-Scape rather than a Porg on a Stick or a Salacius Crumb on a roasting spit.
The concept art at the end of the episode seemed to show Bantha heads, so I could see a slaughterhouse processing Bantha carcasses being very similar to RL ones that process cows.
1:05 The “cold” part of “I can bring you in warm, or I can bring you in cold” was always meant to imply dead in the original, he wasn’t threatening him with carbon freezing. 2:20 That species is a Gran, they just colonized Malastare. 2:27 The first appearance of an Ishi-Tib was in Jabba’s Palace in ROTJ 7:14 Well Sidious defeated Maul before that so by that logic the line of succession would be Sidious, then Vader, and then no one since Vader died shortly after
@@brookpederson738 Halos are orders of magnitude smaller. A ringworld is 2 AUs across with a star at its center. The panels that simulate night and day actually orbit the star much closer, like roughly the orbit of Mercury or so. Building a ringworld is estimated to consume all of the mass of the planets in a solar system. That's no space station.
also, the concept dyson sphere mentioned instead of ringworld is a concept of harnessing the power of the sun by encasing it in solar panels which freezes any celestial object in the solar system
Did anyone else notice the parallel with Boba, Din and the Rodians ? Boba and a Rodian are the prisoners of the Tuskens at the start of the season, and Din and the Rodein kid were both free-roaming. Just a cool thing I thought of when I watched.
He literally said, that he will leave before he's available for Boba. I expect his visit not to be in this show, but either being the first episode of Mandalorian S3 or it just being skipped. I expect Mando to be back a) in the last episode for the final fight b) at the end of the next episode or c) at the beginning of the next episode, with the "visit" being skipped off screen. The last one is the most unlikely.
@@MPH2210 I will scream for joy if in episode 7 Boba And fennec are the only survivors of the battle and they are about to be defeated when fennec looks up like Padme in episode 2 and its Mando and grogu coming to safe the day.
@@eliezerrodriguez5863 I would hate that because it would just further push how Boba is Mandos sidekick. I don’t need to see Mando constantly being better than Boba.
I'd love it if the "Mandalorian Armorer" ended up being Gar Saxon's old trusty majordomo ROOK KAST. If so, it would give me a really incredible payoff to know that both Ahsoka and Rook - enemies during the Clone Wars - BOTH had a hand in helping Mando on his current journey. [I could see her adoption of the "No Helmet Removal"-rule as part of her conversion to her new fanaticism.]
I know there's nostalgia with the ship that Mando ends up with but there are so many questions! In the Razor Quest he had a place to walk around, sleep, keep a stash of weapons and go to the bathroom. How in the world does he do any of that in the flying coffin? Hopefully throughout The Mandalorian season 3 he will get a ship worthy of his needs.
I thought the same things but unfortunately this will be written into the narrative and it will become the exact right tool for what he needs at some point. It did also look like there was a bubble in the back where the droid used to go, no doubt it will become a Grugo bubble.
I'm thinking they might use it as a weapon against the pikes and then he gets a razor crest. You don't introduce a weapon or element into the show and then don't use it again in the story. It's the Chekov's gun theory.
I actually like it when places look like real life places in our world, like the slaughter house, because it makes it almost relatable and like seeing something familiar in a world that’s not.
Another “wizard” Easter egg is that even though Kitster is the only one who says it in Phantom Menace, the action figures that came out that year came with chips that allowed them to say lines from the movie. One of the things that the Anakin figure said was “Wizard!” which makes me think that Jake Lloyd was filmed saying it for a scene that ended up being deleted.
Liked this episode very much. Not because it didn't feature Boba, but because if Boba's hiring 'muscle' he couldn't get a better ally than The Man himself. Plus, Man said he'd work "on the house" demonstrating his respect and friendship for Boba. Great guy to have in your corner and a great setup for the final "Warriors Come Out to Play" moment we're sure to see in the finale.
Yes, the younglings were using Training Sabers on the lowest power setting, which basically can block low power blaster bolts, and give you a lil zap, maybe a welt. It's like using wooden swords instead of real katanas in bushido or using foils instead of real rapiers in fencing.
@@kartridgekuro They do. And while training sabers are pretty weak, they can cause injury if turned up high enough. Since it's a blade of energy that can cut through anything, you don't want your kindergarten age jedi trainees accidentally chopping arms off when they spar.
This show is more or less "The Mandalorian season 2.5" as it was called a while back, and it really shows in this episode lol. But that's a good thing, that the Mando-verse is truly coming together, other characters getting their own little arcs in other's shows, it really feels like one big chapter book being pieced together.
1:29 I don’t believe that this was mentioned in any of the shows, but in a book that talks about all kinds of fun details of the Jedi tells that the sabers that younglings start their training with use a crystal and saber that make it less dangerous. Meaning that if it touched skin it would be a mild burn, like you get from touching a hot pan. Might leave a scar but nothing serious. I got this from the book, don’t yell at me if you don’t like it.
The next person Maul lost to after winning the Darksaber was Sheev Palpatine (best lightsaber fight ever). Maul was actually using the Darksaber in that fight, where he wasn’t when he was fighting Ahsoka. So maybe Sheev is the real owner of the Darksaber.
So, this is why rules are important. It matters whether the gifting breaks the line of wins and you have to go back or it just starts anew. In either case, this is just a response to Ryan’s comment about Ahsoka.
I know it can’t be gifted, that’s point. Does gifting break the chain such that you have to go back to the last legitimate win? Or does the chain start new at the next legitimate win?
Can't wait to see Luke, and grou ,but I have a feeling they might save that for mandalorian season 3 which isn't necessarily a bad thing since this is supposed to be boba's show. BOBF is definitely underated. The mods are kind of strange/ out of place, and that speeder chase scene was lackluster, but otherwise this has been some great star wars content imo.
The biggest problem has been that we haven't seen Boba do shit, other than kill the pirates with the Slave I. Mando slices a dude in half within the first ten minutes of this episode and Boba has had 4 episodes of basically doing nothing. As others have said, Mando was supposed to be Boba before Disney changed their mind and wanted Boba back. Can't have two Boba characters so all the sudden Boba is a good guy pacifist who takes his helmet off all the time and talks too much.
I think next episode will go back to boba. It'll just be an episode or two before Mando joins up. They'll probably start first episode of season 3 headed to see his lil buddy, since it doesn't have anything to do with boba
@@CClizzy oh you're right. I'm so used to seeing Disney+ shows having only 6 episodes I didn't even check if Boba has more and thanks to my friend Google, I discovered that there will be a 7th episode. So ep6 probably just Fennec and Fett and then the finale with Mando.
Also, the episode is directed by Bryce Dallas Howard who starred in Jurassic World and I thought the Wamp Rat attack was very similar to the opening of Jurassic Park, when the worker is dragged around a corner by a raptor and holds onto the edge of the cage to try and escape. I strongly believe that makes Easter egg number 98 lol
The detail is so cool. That part where Din is talking and asking the light to be shined reminded me of that scene where Grogu is working on the wires is S2.
I was really struck by Mando's transition from the razorcrest to a starfighter. If you think about it the starfighter is usually the ship showcased by the heroes of star wars and his transition into an N1 felt like he was beginning to take up the mantel of a hero in Star Wars. Maybe it also signifies Mandalorians taking up the mantel of the heroes that the Jedi used to fill in this new star wars EU.
My wife said the same thing. I was asking where he was going to put his bounty hauls. The Crest allowed him to go on multiple hunts and store his catches in carbonite as needed. It was a very practical ship. Now I am wondering where he's going to poo the more I think more about it.
@@deepzone31 I think they're setting him up for bigger things than being just a bounty hunter. With the dark saber and a new quest to the mandalorian home world, I think he's to become the new Mandalore. Or at least part of the re-settlement/conquest of Mandalore with Bo-katan
That added fart @2:12 made me crack up. 🤣 Also, pretty sure the "kyrogenic density combustion booster" Makes an appearance in the Mandolorian ep. 2 when Din finds Rogu's floating crib in the trash. Its in the background.
I really feel like Mando is having a midlife crisis. I mean he went from living in a cargo van to buying a muscle car, and this was right after he got kicked out of the 🏠 again after the van broke down. Definitely an impulse buy there, Din.
Two things about Grogus armor. 1. Chainmail would not stop an explosion 2. Kylo didn't destroy the temple, it was shown in the comics that he was just as surprised when it blew up
The armorer using numbers during the training may be a reference to parrying positions. In western fencing, parrying positions are marked with numbers 1-8, but are often taught in French.
I have enjoyed every episode of The Book of Boba Fett. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are excellent story tellers. I feel as if I am reading a book when I look at this series and The Mandalorian. I love watching the stories unfold. I love that they take their time. I love not knowing what happens next. Mr. Favreau and Mr. Filoni brought me back to Star Wars. They have truly saved the franchise.
Personally I think the flash backs are giving US the audience more information that we've been thinking about for a very long time plus it will fill in the storyline to a greater experience to the viewer.
Theory: This was originally the first episode of Mando season 3. Boba Fett series has 7 episodes total. This doesn’t follow any of the Disney+ series models of even number totals and mostly 6 episode runs. Lucasfilm realized before release the Boba Fett series wasn’t going to do well and so they added this into its lineup to give it a boost. All they had to add was the Fennec Shand cameo at the end to tie it in. Mando was already filming, so it was an easy pickup.
I loved seeing Mando again. But definitely made me want it to be season 3 of the Mandolorian. I'm interested to see how this first season of Boba Fett finishes up now Din is back.
I Agree that so far BoBF doesn't have a lot of momentum, and maybe it's not the direction everyone wanted to see Boba take, I just wish people could be satisfied that we're getting Star Wars content that actually feels respectful of what came before (unlike the Sequels which were a lot of flash and spectacle but not much substance. I liked watching them but I don't think they were good). We still have a couple episodes to go, so hopefully this is like the long slow climb on a rollercoaster before the epic drop that glues us to our seats. I think Mando refusing payment to help Boba is a sign of how much respect he earned when he and Fennec agreed to help rescue Grogu, even if it was just being a taxi/decoy service. Heck he probably doesn't even know Fett took over as a crime boss, he just hears a homie needs help and agrees because Boba did the same for him. I'm hoping this comradery continues through S3, and even possibly leads to a confrontation or at the very least tense standoff between Luke and Boba. Luke has Grogu, and in a roundabout way is responsible for Boba's change of situation and overall evolution. Who knows though, it's Star Wars made by people who love Star Wars, we'll get something cool even if it's not what we expected. All in all, Book of Boba Fett is a really good Season 2.5 of The Mandalorian.
I don't think the story itself is poor, but it's horribly structured. The pre and post Mandalorian narratives don't serve each other much, and really just interfere with each other. Like, in "The Mandalorian," Every little filler episode still progressed the main story. In this show, the flashbacks bring the main story to a halt, starts telling it's story, only to be halted by a return to the main story.
I'd nearly bet once its all said and done the structure will make sense and people will be singing its praises. Folks are just far to quick to judge on a story line that is obviously not wrapping up any time soon.
@@cjfrommt9903 the first season is wrapping up in 2 episodes, not necessarily the story line. Feels to me like they'll make a second, kinda like how everyone was whinging about the pacing in Bad Batch even though it was obviously just the beginning.

Bryce Dallas Howard was responsible for this episode.
So Wizard, Anni!

He really hit the nose.
Wizard was used very commonly by younglings, supposedly going as far back as the high republic. Interesting how the phrase stuck around in a non Jedi centric way.

Also @20:06 that isn't a Rodian kid, it's a (presumably) human kid wearing a helmet and holding a mini X-Wing, as you can see from the hands and neck area under the helmet, which looks like the kid has hair (that Rodians do not)

Maybe its shown clearer in the credits picture wich are nicely painted
It’s just the concept art, I think he said that because they changed him into a rodian
Lightwhips are actually of similar power output (however have long and flexible 'ropelike' beams)
I have a book somewhere that talks about all kinds of jedi based content not shared within the films. Even details on how force sight really works once you are well trained (it follows a order 66 survivor)

They never specified that the timeline had changed. It’s heavily implied that this is how it always played out.
To quote Judge Renslayer: "It was supposed to happen!"😀
Hopefully they use the world between worlds to fix that God awful trilogy
What if Snoke is Grogu? He is the force from within stollen from Grogu in a very dark way and Snokes body is deformed from the process. Which in turn ended up killing Grogu. There’s something to think about. Lol

I loVED this episode. Friends and i rewind and watch the naboo starfighter scene.
I’m loving how Ryan says “might’ve missed” and not insulting peoples intelligence saying “you did miss”

Etc
oh wow i remember those angle of attack numbers back when i was a kid in martial arts lol
This is how I learned lightsaber combat too.
Plus, they actually show the Rebels clip with Kanen saying "high...low," which confirms that.
Ho, ha, guard, turn, parry, dodge, spin, ha, thrust!
You are correct, most bladed martial arts use the similar angles.
When Din thanks the BD droid, it's almost an exact replication of Cal Kestis doing the same thing with BD-1 in Fallen Order.
I was thinking the exact same thing!
I had just resumed playing Fallen Order after a long break today.. So I was a little overly excited at seeing the BD droid!
When Peli first shows Mando the N-1 she says "I know she doesn't look like much" much like how Han Solo says, "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid."
And when Mando plugs the hose in to charge, it makes a suction "thud" sound reminiscent to Vader's helmet being put on in Empire. 🤘🏻
My problem with the speeder gang is your exact problem with ‘too close to real life in Star Wars’ in England. The fact they are called the mods, have vespa style speeders with tons of mirrors and a couple of the gang even dress like mods. All we need is The Who playing to top it off. It’s way too on the nose but I guess US audiences wouldn’t notice it as much as UK ones do
I saw it right away. "Quadraphenia"

Doctor Jimmy and Din Djarin

@@thegreatbamboozler4837 🤣 yep
(That doesn't mean he has to give up the position of crime boss, lol.)
The Mudhorn Clan is the clan the Armorer declared Din and Grogu to be in the finale of S1. If Din does rule Mandalore, others will probably follow.
The one detail I found interesting that before he disarms himself, he tells the droid that his weapons are part of his religion.

My first thought was there is where he'll put his catch for the day in.
R5-D4's motivator wasn't bad. It was retconned in the current canon that the droid FAKED a bad motivator by directing too much pressure under his dome's flap only to make sure R2-D2 (who told him about the dire situation the Galaxy is in) is picked up instead of him.
That was in the book "From a Certain Point of View'.
Also the “weight “ of the sword deals with a long-standing issue of why do Jedi swing a saber like it’s heavy when lasers are weightless? Seems to suggest the weapons have a force of their own and not being one with it makes them heavier

@@shawnneurohr6198 fair enough
I wanna know whos gonna train DinDjarin to use the dark saber? Could it be luke? or BF?
“I want to see the bebe” - Love the cuts in this one, Ryan, comedic gold.
My theory is that, by the end of Book of Boba, Fett will gift Din the Slave I.
@@GrizzyLatrizzy would make sense. Boba is staying on tattooine for the foreseeable future
I'm thinking they might use it as a weapon against the pikes and then he gets a razor crest. You don't introduce a weapon or element into the show and then don't use it again in the story. It's the Chekov's gun theory.
Maybe you’ll remember him making a comment about finding Razor Crest? That comment definitely took place.
One of the things that the Anakin figure said was “Wizard!” which makes me think that Jake Lloyd was filmed saying it for a scene that ended up being deleted.
holy shit thats awesome
Liked this episode very much. Not because it didn't feature Boba, but because if Boba's hiring 'muscle' he couldn't get a better ally than The Man himself. Plus, Man said he'd work "on the house" demonstrating his respect and friendship for Boba. Great guy to have in your corner and a great setup for the final "Warriors Come Out to Play" moment we're sure to see in the finale.
The Armorer is one hell of a character and I wouldn't mind at all having a TV-series with her, or movie, or at least a TV-Episode.
Yes, the younglings were using Training Sabers on the lowest power setting, which basically can block low power blaster bolts, and give you a lil zap, maybe a welt. It's like using wooden swords instead of real katanas in bushido or using foils instead of real rapiers in fencing.
TIL lightsabers have power level settings
Just say they have a piece of a Kyber crystal in them
@@kartridgekuro They do.
You’re right. They’re called training lightsabers or Youngling Lightsabers.
I think it is referenced in clone wars or rebels
This CHANGED TV cinematic Storytelling HISTORY.. UNDERRATED & unprecedented, and most ppl don't even know
This show hasn't built up Boba Fett the way people remember him. Ruthless, cunning, powerful
The next person Maul lost to after winning the Darksaber was Sheev Palpatine (best lightsaber fight ever). Maul was actually using the Darksaber in that fight, where he wasn’t when he was fighting Ahsoka. So maybe Sheev is the real owner of the Darksaber.
If you win it in a duel against someone who was gifted it or stole it, it becomes yours because you won it in combat last
So, this is why rules are important. It matters whether the gifting breaks the line of wins and you have to go back or it just starts anew.
In either case, this is just a response to Ryan’s comment about Ahsoka.
I came here to say the same thing! Good catch.
It’s a weapon of the force, that has to be won in battle not gifted!
I know it can’t be gifted, that’s point. Does gifting break the chain such that you have to go back to the last legitimate win? Or does the chain start new at the next legitimate win?
Even Tamara Morrison said he thinks Boba talks way too much and there isn’t enough fighting which I agree with
Can't wait to see Luke, and grou ,but I have a feeling they might save that for mandalorian season 3 which isn't necessarily a bad thing since this is supposed to be boba's show.
BOBF is definitely underated. The mods are kind of strange/ out of place, and that speeder chase scene was lackluster, but otherwise this has been some great star wars content imo.
Although he did tell fennec that he wanted to visited grogu first before working for boba. Maybe next episode we see grogu and luke.
They already set Him to visit Grogu. He said he needs to visit a little friend.
Good catch! I noticed that as well(the similarity) but did not make the connection. 🤣
Love how that astromech socket/slot has deffo been traded out in favour of a smaller cockpit for Grogu!! So excited to see them reunited
Exactly what I was thinking - that small canopy is meant for Grogu…
My wife said the same thing. I was asking where he was going to put his bounty hauls. The Crest allowed him to go on multiple hunts and store his catches in carbonite as needed. It was a very practical ship. Now I am wondering where he's going to poo the more I think more about it.
@@deepzone31 I think they're setting him up for bigger things than being just a bounty hunter. With the dark saber and a new quest to the mandalorian home world, I think he's to become the new Mandalore. Or at least part of the re-settlement/conquest of Mandalore with Bo-katan
There is lots of Naboo scrap on tattoine. When qui gin asked Watto for parts, he said that he had lots of it.
Sort of makes sense, if it’s on the way from Naboo to Coruscant.
Ryan definitely deserves a complimentary trip to the Galactic Starcruiser
That added fart @2:12 made me crack up. 🤣 Also, pretty sure the "kyrogenic density combustion booster" Makes an appearance in the Mandolorian ep. 2 when Din finds Rogu's floating crib in the trash. Its in the background.
I really feel like Mando is having a midlife crisis. I mean he went from living in a cargo van to buying a muscle car, and this was right after he got kicked out of the 🏠 again after the van broke down. Definitely an impulse buy there, Din.
14:56 you forgot to mention that the droid on the left is a droid from a deleted scene on A New Hope
Lil dude was also in the Clone wars
@gecko 1968 nice. I never noticed him outside the deleted scene
It was good to see Din Djarin after grogu leaving with luke, this is what we were expecting at least in the second episode of Boba.
I loved R5's motivator going out again in the background of this episode.
I LOVE that you knew about Skippy the Jedi Droid. Made my night
Man. If only the Star Trek writers had consistency like this.
Two things about Grogus armor.
1. Chainmail would not stop an explosion
2. Kylo didn't destroy the temple, it was shown in the comics that he was just as surprised when it blew up
Thank you 👏🏻
The armorer using numbers during the training may be a reference to parrying positions. In western fencing, parrying positions are marked with numbers 1-8, but are often taught in French.
Bayonet training is often done the same way.
That's how I was reading the scene. That's like a fight choreographer's easter egg.
I feel a major fan edit coming. I would love to see a chronological edit of The Book of Boba Fett.
I thought, before the ship was revealed, that it was the souless one, grievous ' ship. I was so excited
That's exactly what I thought it was going to be,
People were mad because this “episode” was about Din Djarin, but it’s a chapter out of a book.
You misspelled "glad".
Personally I think the flash backs are giving US the audience more information that we've been thinking about for a very long time plus it will fill in the storyline to a greater experience to the viewer.
Thought so too
Theory: This was originally the first episode of Mando season 3.
Yep. The Bryce Dallas Howard direction credit was a dead giveaway that this was a Mando episode gone rogue.
2:12 that edit had me question myself lol "is this really in the episode" got me good
I loved seeing Mando again.
It's wrapping up in 2 episodes...
@@cjfrommt9903 the first season is wrapping up in 2 episodes, not necessarily the story line. Feels to me like they'll make a second, kinda like how everyone was whinging about the pacing in Bad Batch even though it was obviously just the beginning. I could be wrong of course, but it's the general trend they've been going for and I'm all for it haha.
The ring space station also reminds me of a Halo ring from the Halo games
Thanks for the chapters for us nerds who know the backstory. I also noticed the liborator handgun. Fun little piece of history.
I love the idea of Amy Sedaris’ character dating a Jawa. Love and… totally grossed out by it. And possibly morbidly curious about it. Wished you had brought it up.
