@@solamsdale9568 they are usually sold as babies because those are easier to ship and mass produce. However, you can grow a misshapen baby into a beautifully symmetrical adult. I would suggest turning you baby regularly to promote even growth. If any leaves are damaged or missing, they will most likely fall off, but new ones will grow. The bigger your pilea gets, the easier it will be to maintain symmetry. I hope that helps!
This plant is one of the easiest to care for. Mine is already growing new leaves from the center. I absolutely love it, you guys have to try it. I got mine at my local Trader Joe's store for $6.95 for a plant, it was only about 3.5 inches tall when I got it couple of weeks ago and it is growing fast. Don't forget to rotate it so it can grow evenly as he explains in the video.
1st time l’ve heard a plant being referred to as “him” & “guy” which is cool, l guess. Until till he removed Pilea’s BABIES! It’s a beautiful specimen, like the perfect Christmas tree!
thanx plant guy, i looked at several videos about propagation and NO ONE, I mean NO ONE explained NADA!! just showing or repeating them selves??! thank you!
Thanks! I was vaguely aware this plant could propagate but didn't know how to go about doing it. Mine has a couple of babies. I got one a couple of months ago and it is so happy and thriving with constant new growth, I think it's already outgrown the pot I put it in! So I will repot and propagate the little ones just like your vid. Thanks again!
Excellent video, very instructive, to the point and lots of important detail. Question: My pilea has five babies but the central gowing plant has completely died back... I unknowingly cut the stalk back to 3 inches, thinking it would bush out. Probably very wrong. Now I am thinking to split off all the five babies into separate plants. Do I need to root each of them as shown in the video? or can they just get separated and planted directly into soil in separate pots. What would be the best thing to do? Thanks.
Thank you for this video! I totally did this wrong, I just cut off one branch and put it in water and nothing happened, now I understand I have to propagate the entire baby
I put one of my main plant babies directly into the soil and it took off very nicely. Thriving so well I have many babies on that one. Never thought to put it in water until I saw this video!
Yes! In fact babies that big already have root systems...not need to cut them off like that! You just dig around and find the root that leads to mother and in the soil right on top you will find the babies tiny but fully formed roots ready for potting!
Hi Christian I am Ruby from Australia. Thank you for making your videos short and to the point with less chitchat, yet you are entertaining and sometimes funny, especially with some of your introductions. It helps that you speak fast. I find myself fast-forwarding if a video is too long. You break it down in segments as a separate video as well, even if it is the same plant. This helps too. God bless you and your new business / shop.
Absolutely GORGEOUS!! I just got this plant and I absolutely LOVE it!! I have to repot it because the roots are literally hanging out from under the pot!! I hope it grows as GORGEOUS as yours!!💖💖💖🥰
I resisted getting one of these because if you're familiar with gardening in FL, they look like dollar weeds! LOL But I saw a big one at the store the other day and I bought it. They are actually very cute and different. Finally subscribed to your channel after watching so many of your videos, you really love your plants!!!

My friend runs a local plant shop. She got a new supplier, who has some wishlist plants. I also bought a small Teardrop Plant for the same price. I bought a medium Goldfish for $5.98. She also gave me a 20%. SCORE! Yesterday I bought a 10" Brazil for $10.98. It was from my Home Depot. Another good score! Hope you have a good one, Gerry 😎
Got my first pilea today. I’ve been searching for one for awhile now. I’m so excited! I don’t think a diamond could have made me happier. 😀 Thank you for the vid. I’ll find you on IG. 🌱
My plant needs repotting and this info will be a great help. Thank you I will be starting some babies in water also. Previously I just gave them a small pot and they did well that way also

Hopefully, it can wait until Spring to be repotted into a bigger, nicer pot. Thanks for sharing! Have a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year. 🎅🎄❤
So if you have a mother plant that's gone a little haywire and the stem is collapsing, can you encourage the stem to produce higher up so that you can straighten the plant, or is it better to just stake it?
I left for six months for work and someone was taking "care" of my plants but now that I'm back most of them are dead or agonizing, including my pilea. She was so robust and perfectly round and now is just a long big stem with 5 leaves at the top. I was thinking of cutting that final top part of the stem and root it on water, but then I wondered what should I do with the remaining stem? can I propagate it on soil? (I've seen you can do that with some plants, like dumb canes). I can't find anything online since the traditional way of propagation is by repotting the babies or by a stem that already has leaves. SOS!! :(
Sofia I was wondering how you went with propagating the top part of the stem? I made the mistake of trying to transplant my pilea into a bigger pot and accidentally ripped off half of the root system, so all of my leaves eventually fell off too 😭😭 now it has finally started to recover after months and months, but only the top has new growth with a long bare stem like yours, please let me know how you went with cutting off the top part if you see this ☺️
this is a super late reply but you can actually put a piece of bare stem into soil, water it, and new baby pileas will pop out! Check out a video by Techplant here on youtube, he did an experiment doing this and it was a super successful method of propagation!

Hi Christian! Is there ever an instance that pilea plants don’t grow any babies? I’ve had my pilea for almost a year and it’s still one single stem, no pups 😕
I got 2 baby plants. Same size, age, everything. I had one facing East and it was growing so many babies. The other one was in another room facing north and it didn’t have any babies for like 2 years. As soon as I moved that one to the east facing window it started growing babies like crazy. The East window room is also slightly warmer than the other room so I’m not sure if it was a temperature or a light (maybe both) factor. Hope this helps ☺️
I have one that is growing really large with babies too. But can I just repot the babies in another smaller pot with soil to have a another plant somewhere else in the house??? Why is it necc' to stick them in water and wait for them another 3 weeks or so when I just want additional plants?
Great video! When during the water cycle is best to repot? My pilea is pretty dry and I don’t know if I should water before I repot? The leaves are also starting to yellow on bottom which is worrying me. Thank you for your advice!
Your pilea looks like one of those balls you throw at a wall and it suctions to the wall. It’s fabulous, he’s absolutely handsome! Also thank you for the video!
How do you ensure that the bottom leaves do not drop off? Do you have your planter sitting on a high elevated table or chair? I have the problem of the bottom leaves touching a table/etc. and then turning yellow and falling off....
My pilea is about half the height of yours, but has easily tripled in size in 6 months. Is there any tips on how to promote rhizomes? My plant only gave 1 in that timespan.
1:48. I let my plant get way too big and some of the babies were quite large. I am repotting the larger ones but the stem is not straight. How can I get them to now grow upwards?
Hello, I’m a new subscriber and I recently just got this pancake plant. Can you please list out the details of the soil? You mentioned 3 different things that you mixed together. Thank you.
My pilea seems very happy and healthy except the bottom leaves are beginning to fall off. She is probably a similar size to the plant in the video; I thought the leaf drop was natural as it got bigger, but apparently that doesn't have to happen (as evidenced by the lovely plant in this video!). Why are my bottom leaves drooping then dropping?
How long should the roots be after water propagation? I am wondering if I transferred my Pilea to the soil too quickly - in just 2 days the bottom 2 leaves started to have black spots and eventually became all black and fell off. I just moved it back to water and hope for the best
Thank you, that was a great video. I just found your channel and I have learned so much about my plants that I never knew. I just received a Pilea Peperomioides and it looks good but the soil is packed down and I think I will put new soil in. Thank you again.
Your chinese money plant looks amazing. I have one, but it's just getting taller. Not bended because of the weight of the leaves. It's over a year already, but no baby plant growing. What could be the problem?
May I ask how old you (mother) pilea is? I can't wait for mine to grow this big, it already has 2 teeny tiny babies growing 😍😍I'm so excited for all three of them to thrive
Would you add some coco coir in the potting mix? Yes or no and why? And what does it mean when the bottom leaves are droopy? My pileas leaves at the bottom touch the edge of the pot and at some point they break in that location and obviously die... I wonder what that means! Does anyone have advice on that?
I have a question for you since you were such a huge help with one of my other plants... I have a huge ficus that I bought and repotted it. Well the roots were so fine that I decided to leave most of the nursery soil around the roots and filled the rest of the pot with excellent well draining soil... well the well draining soil has completely dried out and the nursery soil around the roots are still damp and it’s been 2 weeks! What should I do? The leaves have brown spots on them now and falling off.
Woo beautiful i have two pilea but mine not grow well i don’t know why? Maybe the light ? What’s the condition exposition light for this plant exactly? And not sure humidity ambiance thancks
I just repotted 2 erithums, and one zz in potting mix and mushroom compost. Should I buy some orchid mix and cacti mix and repot them again? I’m stressing bro; I don’t want to lose anything to root rot.
I was wondering about a curving stem. Some places say to cut the top off but I don't want to do that. I see that the stem on yours is a bit curved too. Is that a problem? Should I stake it with something?
Priyanka Dey oh do you mean underwater? I don’t think that will work. If the roots is in water and the top is above water, like an aquaponics than I think it can work.

Mine is not doing so well. It keeps losing leaves. It has tons of babies & now I know what to do with those but I'm wondering should I cut the big one back & place in water or should I leave it with a huge stem?
What’s a good indication your pilea is ready to be repot? I just got mine a month ago but the roots are starting to grow in a circle around the bottom of the nursery pot.
I just got my first pilea and I’m nervous the soil was completely dry so I watered it but some of the leaves are still drooping does that mean anything? Also the light it gets it’s not too crazy it’s just a regular amount of house light and small bathroom window light any tips ? Or would that be good ?
How long before plant gets babies? I bought a 4 inch plant about 8 months ago. Had a rough start because the plant apparently had a fungus and caused all but 4 leaves to die off. Got the fungus under control. Now it is producing new leaves like crazy, has over 30-40 leaves now & looks great, but no babies.. :( also, I was able to save a half leaf and root it. it is doing ok, but have never had new growth, just the half leaf, but no signs of anything else. I feed plants, the have good color -good lighting and get rotated daily, but apparently I am missing something. Any suggestions? Thank you for the great videos you do.
That is the most beautifully structured Pilea I have ever seen, and I've seen thousands!
I’m having trouble getting them into a good shape, any tips??

What’s a good indication your pilea is ready to be repot? I just got mine a month ago but the roots are starting to grow in a circle around the bottom of the nursery pot.
Can you list the ingredients and proportions of the soil you mentioned? And why not cut off all the babies so you just have one main stalk? Thanks!
I just got my first pilea and I’m nervous the soil was completely dry so I watered it but some of the leaves are still drooping does that mean anything? Also the light it gets it’s not too crazy it’s just a regular amount of house light and small bathroom window light any tips ? Or would that be good ?
hi, this was a nice video. for the babies in water. what should the water level be and can i add anything to the water for nourishment?
healthy plant . lovely plant
just found this video. after you finish with the soil, did you give the peperomia water directly or just let the soil dry?
How long before plant gets babies? I bought a 4 inch plant about 8 months ago. Had a rough start because the plant apparently had a fungus and caused all but 4 leaves to die off. Got the fungus under control. Now it is producing new leaves like crazy, has over 30-40 leaves now & looks great, but no babies.. :(
also, I was able to save a half leaf and root it. it is doing ok, but have never had new growth, just the half leaf, but no signs of anything else. I feed plants, the have good color -good lighting and get rotated daily, but apparently I am missing something. Any suggestions?
Thank you for the great videos you do.
Propagation Station sounds like a hip nightclub 😅
O - M - G THIS PILEA. It is SO ROUND. Wow - truely stunning ♥
Does the soil on the pilea plant need to be moist or wet when u give it water?
