Good vid , proper saab jig for the gearbox there are small inserts that fit in the selector forks to keep the ball and spring compressed, i worked for a saab main dealer in the 80s overhauled a few of them

Thanks! That’s cool, I’ve enjoyed overhauling that gearbox a lot, Saab engineers did good job designing it so it barely need specialized tools to do it (besides compressing the freewheel which is hell without proper contraption).

@@autka_me the bearings at the rear of the box and the pinion bearings failed if the car was used on very short runs . Ive got the tool for the freewheel somewhere 😂 many many moons since i used it .

@@thomascatford2627 makes sense, short runs must mean frequent gear changes and putting additional stress on those element. I’ve made freewheel tool from piston rings compressor, worked quite well. I’ve got replacement gearbox that I’ll be overhauling when time permits just to have spare.

Is the box still quiet? I read and experienced whine in 2nd gear is typical. Thanks enjoyed video. I'm overhauling mine as well. Im fabricating tools
