  • My brothers 2005 VW Beetle 2.0L automatic - Was running great idling in driveway warming up one day and it stalled, crank no start - NO ECM COMMUNICATION - To make a long story short the ECM fried ... Everything checked out to the ECM with no communication ..
After checking all grounds and connections, relays and fuses we sent the ECM out for repair was told the chip on the board was good (no obvious burned/heat damage) the power supply on the board was good and powering up but the chip would not power up DOA.
No idea why the ECM fried, I do know Bentley shows a 10A fuse for the ECM and the prior owner had a 20A in the socket, possibly a voltage surge and the fuse being 20A allowed the EMC to take the voltage hit and fry rather than blowing the fuse.
Purchased an unlocked ECM plug and play works fine problem solved.

you replaced new ECM, no programming required? Just plug and play? or buy unlock ECM

Sorry for the slow reply, This is my brothers Beetle I do the work on it.
He sent the ECM out to an electronics place for testing/repair they concluded the chip was dead, it was getting power the board was powering up but the chip was dead on the board non-repairable.
They also sold ECM's since they had his they matched it up to a PLUG & PLAY IMMOBILIZER Delete/Unlocked ECM same numbers. my brother bought it I plugged it in started right up he is still driving this Beetle today.
Everything works as it should all power, alarm, ODB II, hook a VAGCOM up everything is as it should be, if I remember correctly he had to give them his VIN and they flashed the ECM with his VIN or something to make it plug and play to "his car"... I hope that helps

This was last fall, been nearly a year and no problems, Beetle is still running great.

This is my brothers car, he found a company online that only sold ECM's, they would re-flash/repair the old one if repairable at one price, then they also sold replacements if the original ECM was no good, the original turned out to be a dead chip on the board could not be repaired .. They had a replacement and he bought it. I can ask if he remembers the name of the company @@M0N0T0N0US

@@M0N0T0N0US So I talked to my brother he said he bought the ECU from - TheECUConnection ..
I guess they have a website and also an ebay shop, My brother is a computer tech/IT guy so I imagine he ask all the right questions, i remember him shopping around and taking his time before he bought an ECU and decided with this place was good.
I can say it was plug and play everything worked on the car as it should, all power , alarm , remote everything works fine, Has been a couple/few years still driving the car no issues so far.
I think he bought through their ebay shop for the "buyer protection what not" He said they programmed it to match his car their shop on ebay is - ecuconnection
He also said their web site is TheECUConnection(dot)com
      I hope that helps

I am not sure on a 2005 1.4, is it a Beetle or something EU JETTA, Golf, Polo, Fox ?
I am in the U.S., the 1.4 TSI "if I am correct" was not introduced here till 2015, JETTA/Golf/Beetles prior to 2015 petrol here are 2.0L / 1.8T / 2.5L at least any I have encountered. What is it I can see if maybe something in Bentley covers it
