- Every October in Britain, various exaggerations, half-truths and outright falsehoods are trotted out for popular consumption. It is time that some of these were exposed for what they are. The first we shall examine is the idea that in 1948 people from the West Indies were invited to come to Britain and help rebuild a country damaged by the Second World War. This myth, encouraged by the scandal of the ‘Windrush generation’ now has a strong grip upon the imagination of many people in Britain, although it is quite false.

We have long reached a stage where whatever an activist group would _like_ to be true, and sounds good to them, is then perpetuated as absolute fact.
Public funded academics deliberately being deceptive to the public just leads to the public becoming cynical and vulnerable to conspiracy theories. Which leads to those academics supporting censorship because it’s the only way that they can control those conspiracies because they know that the public no longer trust them and their narratives. All history gathers a lot of mythology in its course of time This feature windrush seemed overblown at the beginning I actually remember people of my mother's generation not being in full acceptance of these people .They as far as a kid could gather were sketchy. They were horrified at the British government for expelling Enoch. These people it seemed had more to them than met the eye was then ultimately assumed.This goes unresolved to the day now .They state this wasn't an opportunity adventure for the pasangers they affirm by word of mouth white man lazy we were sent for by the government. Because the assisted passages were paid for by the governments of those Dominions. The British government was hardly likely to prevent people from accepting these offers. After all, hadn't Britain just fought a war in defence of freedom?

Nursery times: you really need a proper history lesson rather than racist nonsense. Jamaica was part of the British Empire. It didn't get independence until the 1960s. Britain was the mother country, when slavery end in the 1800s the made these countries colonies. Do you now understand? You have black and Asian people in Britain because they were British subjects 🙄.

I agree that the Windrush myth is used to make white Britons seem like ungrateful racists, but it’s also formulated to portray white people as lesser, as a people incapable of building a functional civilisation without extensive black input. It’s designed to stoke black racial narcissism as well as resentment towards white people. Even more importantly, it’s intended to make us feel as we have no right to belonging in, or having ownership over, our nation and the consequence of this is that we neither stand up for ourselves our date to question the demographic situation.

I live in Madrid , Spain and am mercifully spared the horrors of Black History Month - here in Madrid one is made welcome and my English Language skills are respected and wanted - but I there is no attempt by the ex - patriates here to whinge and complain that Spain is not England or America etc Moreover , while I have the residency , certain rights etc I know that I am British and always will be - I am not Spanish. If those of African origin dislike Western Europe and white people they must return to a black majority country.

Hang on. I keep reading about the massive unemployment in the UK after WW2. Returning soldiers found themselves now unemployed due to loads of women having entered the workforce during the war.
So what exactly was the rationale behind importing all these blacks from the West Indies and elsewhere?
To add to this. The British government introduced schemes aimed at attracting unemployed ex soldiers to the colonies.
The "10 pound pom" being the most famous of all.
So why encourage Brits to move out to the colonies while they bring in thousands of blacks from the Caribbean?
Add to that number, all of the children who had been sent to the countryside for their safety, they grew up didnt they, they didnt stay children forever?

The labour shortage post 1945 encouraged the Labour govt to bring in the European Workers Programme which brought in about. 250,000 workers from different European countries.The people from this programme who stayed and the huge Irish emigration until the late 1950s have been airbrushed out of history

What labour shortage? We didn't need the war materiel any more. We had millions of women in factories. We had millions of men returning from fighting. We had hundreds of thousands of foreign soldiers and similar numbers of POWs. Then there was the Irish who left promptly when war was declared. There was no labour shortage.
On a side note when questioned about the Palestine situation Attlee declared "I have more than enough chosen people in the party".

This Myth has existed for quite some time --- as even I thought it was true.
Black History Month in the US is similar. They've been inventing new lies about the Tulsa race riots every year and they parade out a long list of black people who supposedly invented all sorts of import things. When you read about the actual race riots the propaganda becomes clear to see. And if you look up any of the "inventors" two things become apparent: those making up these lies don't know anything about technology or patents or prior art, and they don't fear being caught lying.

Mind you, I personally (as an indigenous Anglo/Scot 'Brit') prefer a West Indian ethnic influx, over an Islamic 'religious/political' one, any day. At least with those of West Indian descent we get decent music and food: with Islam all we get is 'entitlement' and the Sharia.
It would be quite nice to have an English History month - if they can squeeze it in between Pride Month, Black History Month, Women's History month etc etc.

very good to get the facts for a change, thank you, as a former east end boy from Plaistow, I was 8 years old when this went on, and i always thought that all those on that ship came to drive the buses, so in my old age thanks again for bringing the facts to daylight. I now live in the USA, but have visited Plaistow over the years, it was never a ritzy type of place, and my education from the local schools was appalling. but in the new world I flourished.
The Labour government in 1948 didn't even know they were coming until it was too late to turn the boat around.
And if we needed labour to rebuild the country that much, why were we shipping out British people to Australia (the 10 pound Poms as they were known).
And why didn't Germany, who suffered more damage than Britain, or Japan, who was Nuked, need loads of foreigners to rebuild?
Germany did need "loads of foreigners" to help rebuild the country after the war hence the large Turkish population they have today.
What I don't understand, why a whole month, and what have they brought to the table in a white, Christian country that has been for our benefit? all I daily witness is over sensitivity, and antagonism.

I always find it fascinating and somewhat bizarre the narative we are told abt windrush, so many questions the answers dont fit, firstly we are told they were here to rebuild this country - how comes they all went directly to London thats hardly rebuilding the whole country. Plus the fact of numbers, there were only around 500+ (correct me if wrong) thats not really gonna add to much to a suffered population. Secondly the notion they were invited, a job advert is not quite a government invitation is it. I guess the government pushed this narrative instead of just saying the truth that they were economoc migrants looking for a better life from impoverished carribean island.
Have you ever read The Lonely Londoners? The real reason they came here was for what they called "pieces of skin", white women, and this book written by a black man!

This is an interesting subject Simon. Being alive at the time and working on the Railways in the 1960's it was always my belief that at a time of full employment in the 1950's the people coming from West Indies were welcomed by employers to keep wages low. I witnessed how standards dropped from the mid 50's to the mid 60's.
Yes and the standards of the civil service since they started employing a load of thick blacks and asians just so successive governments can try to make themselves look good, have dropped considerably. Ever had a letter from a government department that wasn't from someone with an asian name? Nah, didn't think so!

I would be interested to know what non-argument would you use to deal with the great number of children from care homes who were forcibly removed to the colonies during the same period they were not-filtering West Indians by using an Australian-style points system. I won't make any point on the abuses these children suffered, but if you're interested, see the fact-based 2010 film, "Oranges and Sunshine" There was also the drama-doc, "The Leaving of Liverpool." Only well to do folk could get on the Windrush. The fare was £28 and you needed £5 to spend on board. Look at the pictures of their arrival in Tilbury, young men well dressed in £20 American suits. But they came here to work, spoke English and were Christians. The young men arriving daily on our beaches may have designer clothes and the latest smartphones but intend to give nothing to this country and would not tolerate being housed under Clapham Common!

My place started extra early, and wouldn't you know it, I had to cover a PSHE lesson on Black History last week. The powerpoint I had to present said all the myths (could we say 'lies'?) you mentioned, and this being delivered to impressionable young minds already subjected to massive propaganda. Of the 30 odd pupils though, only a few were white British.
Similar sentiments were proffered at The Nuremberg Trials but they were still rightly found guilty.
