Strong Shoulders 1 of 4 with Scapular Stabilization, Rotator Cuff and Deltoid Strength

  • Do you have shoulder popping, clicking, pain or just want to have great mechanics and strong shoulders? I was a chiropractor with torn glenohumeral ligaments and rotator cuff muscles as seen on an MRI. What I am giving you here are the exercises that helped me and have helped my patients with acute and chronic shoulder injuries. The exercises and stretches are focused on the rotator cuff muscles and the scapular (wing bone) stabilizers. Some of the muscles worked are the supraspinatus, teres minor, rhomboids, anterior deltoids, lateral deltoids, posterior deltoids, serratus anterior and inferior trapezius muscles to name a few.

    Be cautious by starting with light weights and slower repetitions. Do a video every other day or more frequently if able. You can also do the videos that don't involve using weights but will give you a safer workout. If these are too much for you, stop and give us a call. Also check out ESWT (extracorporeal shockwave therapy) as one of our treatment possibilities. With shockwave therapy, we can effectively break up scar tissue in places like the biceps tendon or the joint capsule. Angiogenesis (blood vessel proliferation) comes in and new collagen is formed. It's well researched and, with a practitioner that knows the nuances of the shoulder joint, is a very effective tool to use on the path back to strength and flexibility.

    This series does not have the views that the TMJ or ETD videos have but I can say that I am most proud of this series because I know how hopeless a shoulder injury can be. Without the right care, they can last for years upon years. With these videos, consistence, caution and a good healthcare provider there is hope for weak and damaged shoulders.

    I can't speak for results yet since I only did this one video so far, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for such an unfrustrating, fully guided video!! I am hyper mobile and my shoulder gives me issues and a lot of pain on and off. Usually I find videos with a lot of unhelpful talking and with exercises that are not advanced enough. These are simple and easily adjustable top my strength. Amazing. Can't wait to do the rest!!

    Another awesome video. Thank you Dr. Fields! I think the breathing and apnea ones are great but if you are most proud of the shoulder series, I'm all in. My elbow clicks with the bicep curl out so did that one with no weight, still clicking. Should I do the weight but stop right before it clicks (limiting the range of elbow extension) until maybe the scapula is moving more freely and fully. I don't have a shoulder injury. Thank you again for all the videos!

    I have had the painful left shoulder joint like right at the joint for years, while doing certain exercise i just lose control of my left shoulder in certain positions, really bad pinch, been doing these exercises in 4 videos for about 6 weeks, started with 2.5 lb weight , first 3 weeks were painful but kept on doing these exercises, 7th week now, my left shoulder joint is almost as strong as right. And i am easily lifting 7 lbs now. Now i have good control over left shoulder. Clicking sound from shoulder is almost gone. May be i had bad vein or one week muscle, these exercises work like miracle. Thank u Dr Adam. Just fantastic.

    • @rendroid15
      @rendroid15 3 роки тому

      Want to add, that control and doing it right is the key as mentioned by Dr Adam multiple times, amount of weight or reps dont matter. Control it, feel ur muscles lift the weights.

    I discovered this work on the 18th January, 2021. I had jinked my shoulder flying through a door backwards. This series of Shoulder Rehabilitation and strengthening is outstanding and most important it works, and builds muscles. It is remarkable by keeping the arch in your low back you really are strengthening the glutes and the whole posterior chain. I do this series 1 - 4 every week and the results are truly rewarding.

      @@dradamfields Thank you Dr Adam. Be assured I will make this part of my weekly workout routine. As you know ,I would really like you to do a follow along 15 - 20 minute workout, targeting the posterior chain mostly in a prone position. The posterior chain group of muscles is seldom spoken about, but so important for preventing back pain, and helping to maintain posture. I know you will make it happen very soon!

Dr says she’s not sure if I have a torn rotator cuff without an MRI and just have me anti inflammatory 5 months ago. I can’t afford MRI. Thinking about trying a chiropractor. Thank you doctor for these exercises and I found you at the right time. My husband got knocked off by a wave, lost his balance, and fell hard into the ocean. He was complaining of right shoulder pain and a few days later we found out that his supraspinatus tendon has a complete tear. Eventually, he was seen by a physio and he was free of pain after two weeks. After two months he got a full range of motion and there is no pain. We are not opting for surgery. Can he do all of these exercises (all 4 videos) to keep all his shoulder and back muscles and tendons strong? By the way, I loved all 4 videos and I am incorporating them into my strengthening regime as I have pain-free grinding and clicking annoying noises when moving my shoulders. Thanks a lot for organizing in a such way that we can slowly progress from easy to hard.

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  Рік тому

      Thanks for the appreciation!
      The more you pull your scapula down the less you should be clicking/grinding.
      With a full thickness tear, he should be fine doing the exercises. If it was partial thickness, he would be pulling on a torn tendon and that would give him a lot of pain. However, start very light with my no-weight shoulder videos and build up.

      @@dradamfields Hi Doc, thanks so much for the reply and fair enough! I dislocated my shoulder last September. I've had some PT and it's helped, but some movements are still uncomfortable (like really big arm circles or the "aquaman" movement in the video). Not sure if I tore my labrum or not (no MRI) but some positions still feel mildly unstable.
      I'm not a baseball guy but I'm hoping to get back to pull-ups and rock climbing! If you had any exercises that would be helpful for this other than the existing shoulder series (which looks very promising by the way!) maybe that could be your next video ;) Hope I can level up through the series and get that strength back along the way!

Let me emphasize, my shoulder is feeling the greatest since I got injured, also recovering from a dead butt syndrome (No knee o butt pain). Thank you very much

      So good, Daniel. You may want to foam roll on your subscapularis and teres minor muscles. Way to resurrect your butt : )

    Hey Dr. Fields, been a while! I like these a lot. Simple and to-the-point exercises, easy to remember, no weird stigmas, no fancy equipment needed. Don't have dumbbells? Grab a can of beans! Don't need to be an uptown a-hole to take care of your body, amirite?

      As you get stronger, the cracking should reduce. Be patient and keep up the exercises, May.

      If the impingement is gone, do these:

    Nice video! I felt soreness in between my shoulder blades after this video. Is that normal and does it mean I'm doing it properly? Also noticing less clicking doing those arm circles as I progress with these videos. At the end, I had some tension in my jaw, was very weird but I've had some TMJ symptoms lately. I wonder if a weak core is contributing to the jaw tension while doing these shoulder exercises? Any thoughts on this

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  2 роки тому

      Good results- make sure you pull your shoulders down toward your hips to not activate muscles that would interfere with your TMJ/upper cervical spine.

    Please if anyone can answer me, is it safe to arch the back this much? Will this hurt the lower back in the future? or does it protect it?

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  4 роки тому +1

      If you already have a facet joint problem. there is a possibility you can aggravate it. However, with your muscles engaged, you are waaaaay less likely to cause irritation of your lower back. So, when you arch your back, Rachelle, make sure to engage your abs at the same time.

    I enjoy these exercises because - I make some strange faces and he is like: SMILE! I start doing the exercises too fast and slopy and he is like: CONTROL THE WEIGHT. I lose my posture and he is like: KEEP THE CURVE! Almost like he can see me. He either has some super powers or has plenty of experience so he can predict the points when and where we will start losing it...
