You basically cut in a new bed edge my guy ! The tool works flawless for its designed purpose which is "redefining" existing natural bed edging(before it grows back in)
Very odd idea to prefer dedicated (as Alton Brown calls them unitaskers) over multifunction tools.Especially for something that probably only gets used for a small part of the year. I guess if it works for you.
@@MichaelTheakston Thanks for the reply. You're the second to suggest the Echo over Stihl since I've been looking into this. My concern is, this concept looks very compelling but in ideal conditions of soft soil. It's very typical to encounter roots and compacted soil in commercial settings. How do you find the Echo handles this consideration?
I was gonna like your video anyway but I really had to when I seen that the number was at 666!!! We are thinking about getting this tool and the sweeper.
@@MichaelTheakston does preen really help? I put a weed fabric barrier under my mulch but those prickly weeds still managed to poke through and create some holes... And I was thinking of laying down preen on top of my mulch, then lay down preen and covering that over with some heavy duty or commercial grade fabric if such a thing even exist.
@@jesusvargas841 If you use weed fabric under mulch the mulch will never make it into the soil. You want it to eventually decompose and help the soil get all the nutrients from it. Try using news paper or better still cardboard under the mulch. As the cardboard decomposes the mulch will also decompose, and then you add more mulch. Eventually you will have enough mulch that weeds will not come up. Landscape fabric is for rock.
Thanks for the video...there are hardly any videos of this bed re-definer on the net. How deep of an edge can you cut in? Every spring, part of my clean-ups is re-defining existing edges....so I know this tool will work well on re-defining the existing edges vs. cutting in a new edge, but I just want to know how deep of an edge does it do? Thanks!
Looks like crap with that machine TBH. Seem like more work to clean up and rake in the dirt. I do it by hand, does not take that long and looks 100 times better.
Great video; I am going to have to go get one of those now. Anyway, you can get a commission on that sale? Also, where can I find your mulch video? I checked out the channel, but did not see anything on mulching. Thanks in advance for the link, and keep putting out great videos!
Not Happy with the one that I just bought. It does not even look half as good as it does with a shovel. I charge for professional results those edges are not even close to being professional.
I think this tool has potential but I think the blade on it is to short and narrow. Every video I have seen on UA-cam the user has the blade all the way down.
Sorry, but I was not that impressed! For the price, I want a 4-5" cut at a 60-degree angle and at least a 2-3" bottom valley. I want the dirt pulverized and broadcast into the bed. I don't mind a bit of throwback on the lawn, but I was seeing clods. I'll stick with my shovel for now.
So you go around with that thing ,then rake the shit back into the bed ,then shovel the excess away from the trough you made? Or do you use that waste of money, then have to shovel the excess ,then rake the shit out of the grass?. No thanks, i can do the job way faster and better looking with an ice chopper.
That is not the proper way you need a real spade cut it first pick up the grass not throw it in and Haul it it grass will grow back that useing just the redefiner like that is the sloppy way is called a redefiner for a reason to cut beds you need a real bed edger or a spade for a professional results you always get more money and more jobs doing it the proper way some jobs just take effort and time and you will have to charge you spend 25 minutes you get paid for 25 minutes instead of a couple hours.
I bought this attachment from watching this video ...answers exactly what I need
I appreciate the demo because it was so wet there. Wet is always a game changer and it didn't slow you down any, I sincerely appreciate that part.
Caleb Welte Thanks! I appreciate the comment
I tried to use this on my bed. Wife got mad because it shred the blanket and pillows.
Well, atleast you still have the couch, where you will likely be sleeping. 😂😂😂
Definitely take the pillows off first, that’s in the manual
I got the Stihl FS 131 with the bike handle. It's wonderful !!
But it doesn't make a nice edge... It just makes a line in the ground. You would still have to go around with a shovel to grade the inside....
Still saves you a lot of work
You basically cut in a new bed edge my guy ! The tool works flawless for its designed purpose which is "redefining" existing natural bed edging(before it grows back in)
So i can custom make a blade for my edger and boom a redefiner ✔️
I don't see it working on hard Georgia clay when it hasn't recently rained.

We actually use the echo2620 now and it doubles as an edger during the mowing season.

Echo seems to have more power and the blade design is by far the best with the cleanest edge results
So how does this piece work? What do you put in afterwards? Do you think this piece is profitable ?
The echo brd-2620 is a much better option, I have a video up on that redefiner.
Would you recommend the kombisytem for a homeowner or still go dedicate tools? I wanted an edger, weed eater and bed redefiner.
Combi system for homeowners as you won't use it as hard as a commercial company
@@MichaelTheakston thanks 🙏 for the fast 💨 response!
What about for lawn edging?
It comes with an edger blade that you can put on for edging driveways and sidewalks
All my tools are STIHL except my bed redefiner.ECHO has the win for this tool.
It will shoot the the dirt back in but it has to be dry dirt not wet or else it clumps and goes everywhere
Jack Trevino The echo one we have works better in wet dirt, the blade design is also different.
That has to be the softest dirt I have ever seen I have the garden bed definer and it is stupid hard because of how hard my soil is
It's very nice soil, also was raining earlier that day
@@MichaelTheakston I live in like the clay capital of the world and we only have about 1/2 topsoil and then it's solid brown clay
I just turn my trimmer vertical and it does a great job.
I was gonna like your video anyway but I really had to when I seen that the number was at 666!!! We are thinking about getting this tool and the sweeper.
Sounds like it needs more power
So did you lay landscape fabric after that, or did you remove some more soil from around the new edged area?
We removed grass and soil and the customer spread Preen and then we put mulch down.

Looks to me like a normal stick edger with a thick blade would do the same job.
The dealer told me its geared lower, the echo redefiner actually came with an edger blade though

Horizon Land Management Group It has a depth adjustment, we usually do a 3-4" edge. Thanks for the comment!
Perfect! Thats what we cut ours to also! Good to know...thanks for the prompt response!

We only run echo redefiners now
Can you put a regular edger blade in it and use it as an edger too?
Adi Satzinger Yes, it comes with an edger blade to swap out.
Purchase the Kombi edger attachment from Stihl. Use the supplied tool to remove the redefiner head and install the edger.
@@davidmartin7997 i dont think these are interchangeable. I have the edger, and you cant use the deeper kombi redefiner on it.
Don't lie bro. Those are your daily sunglasses.
Yeah I know
Are you wearing your Mom's jeans?
Any gravel in the dirt also gets shot out at a fair speed so be aware of who's going to be catching it.
Ferrinflame Thats very true!
I have the Stihl regular edger. Not seeing much of a difference
Regular edger spins way faster, this redefiner is geared lower to handle the claw
Nice video!

Doesn't look like good clean devils with a shovel

Joe Meow o
You seem a little short on horse power...
We use echos now, way more power and definite edge!
does not cut nearly deep enough
We only use echo now
The results look like crap to me!
Greg Valentine Yeah, we decided to buy 3 echo's instead of the stihl ones. They have a sharper edge.
Professional's use STIHL.
Um... That's a spade.
