    If I remember correctly, in the U.S. those Lincolns regularly got over 25 m.p.g. on the highway. I had the opportunity to get my father’s ‘94 Towncar when he died, but he had smoked cigars in it for years, and I don’t smoke. The odor was overpowering, so I let it go. Wish I had replaced the carpets, deodorized it, etc. and kept it.

      Anonymous98 I’ve never got that good out of my 4.6 Town Car’s but both mine had tired engines too. I had a ‘92 Vic years ago with low miles still & it did a lot better. Actually there are a few ways to deal with smoke odour, an ozone generator is the most effective but can damage rubber components on the car plus you’d need to pay someone with an ozone generator to do it. A good cleaning, then let it dry nice with the windows down, air it out for as long as you can (air exchange is key to breaking down the smoke). You can normally really cut it down with those two steps & then to completely get rid of it to your nose, you go find a scented candle you like & let it burn in the car till it replaces the remaining smell of smoke. Since smoke particles are heated they are very small in size & thus penetrate very deeply into porous surfaces, the smoke particles from the candle with work in the same way effectively replacing the smell of smoke. If you’re wondering how I know that, I actually owned a carpet cleaning company for awhile & became an IICRC certified Master Textile cleaner, involved in that is a certification in odour control which involved a 2 day in class course. I did a video a while back on killing car odours.

      Matt's Garage Wish I had known known some of your tips when I was considering it, but my wife was adamantly against it at that time, about 19 years ago. I’ve had a Grand Marquis, purchased new with air suspension and the same basic motor, but dramatically worse mileage than his ‘94 Lincoln . Later I bought a cousin’s lightly-used Crown Victoria, steel grey and wonderful to drive, but again, the mileage and ride quality never matched the ‘94 Lincoln. Never got a ticket in the Vic. A few years ago a small fender-bender set off all the air bags in the Crown Vic and the insurance company totaled it. Wish I had your type of Lincoln in good shape. I’d drive it forever.

      Anonymous98 They are actually easy to find in good shape (my ‘91 was actually like new cosmetically, just a little tired), but I’ve seen low mile ones for sale too. I plan to finish the engine swap on my ‘94 & then do paint & body on it as well, it will be my nice Town Car. Then I have my little Versailles as well I will be restoring the body on but it will never see daily use due to it’s rarity.

    Hi Matt! Nice review. I just picked up a '93 White w/ Blue Leather Interior. Rides smooth and quiet. Lots of class the Lincoln has. True head turner. I like your detailed reviews. Good luck! Cheers!

    The designers/engineers at Lincoln argued about this car throughout the 1980s and when it was known as a model of the Continental.
    I met the daughter of one of the engineers in a pool room in Michigan.... who told me story after story. What went on to get this car as its own flagship is absolutely fascinating.
    It was all inspired by the thought of taking the class and flamboyance of a limousine and reducing it to a family-driver while keeping the class and flamboyance. Can it be done? A few people said yes, most people said no..... but those "No-people" are what drove the main designer to get it done.

      Yeah I recall reading that they spent an abnormally high amount on designing and developing these cars.

    This was the last year for that chrome trim package. After this they went to cheap plastic fake chrome, which peels and fades eventually. This is also the last year for drum brakes in the rear.
    You should put another $800 into the body for and even 2k and then hold onto it because they're rising in value as fewer are left.

    • @CarswithNash
      @CarswithNash  3 роки тому

      Yeah the chrome on this one is actually polished stainless, I originally bought this car so I could swap all that onto my '94 but it ran so nice I fixed it up instead. The body is actually beyond repair realistically but it makes a great driver, my friend has it now and has added a bunch more miles to it, still running perfect! I still see a lot of these cars for sale very cheap and in decent enough shape but most have high miles.

    There’s someone near me selling a 90. I want it for $800 the guy went down to $1100. The car also has the exhaust leak, sounds like 3 window regulators are bad and it has rot by the rear wheel well and door.

      Keep in mind it is 31 years old… Sounds like a couple weekend projects and you’d have yourself a nice classic driver. These cars really do stand up well to time and that could still be a reliable car for you.

      boofighter I have a couple action camera’s, the main one is an Akaso Brave 4 which I filmed most of this with, sadly I had the lense angle set wrong for some of these clips so it distorted some things, I actually reshot this whole video because of it but then in editing I still picked some of the original clips as I liked what I said better... I have more plans for equipment upgrades down the road but actually I’m happy with this particular camera & plan to get another soon.
