My Dad bought my mother one of those and when it rained there would be water on the front passenger seat and they never did figure out how it was entering the car at the dealership. She kept a towel handy. Great car otherwise. I used to chauffeur actors in them back in the day when we also used Country Squire wagons to transport people, before we moved into Suburbans and Passenger Vans.
Had my '89 until it saved my daughter's life in 2000. She was hit from behind at about 45mph by a fully loaded van pulling a large trailer, everything the man from New York owned. Shoved her into a pick-up. She walked away with a sore back. Did bend the frame but saved her. Used to get 25mpg on the freeway. Didn't care about around town, just loved the car. Still miss it
Glad it saved you daughter life. My 98 saved my life in September 2021 it took me sometime to rebuilt. Honestly Im glad your family is safe it shows them Lincoln's are built like a tank.
I bought a 1996 Town Car a few weeks ago. Best $5900 I ever paid! Like this one, an old gentleman passed away. No one else wanted it. Rust free. I bought it at auction in Minden, Nebraska. Looks like it just came off the car carrier!
Those cars are smooth and feels its on rails. Solid, no computer sensor nonsense. Not this modern day non repairable throw away junk manufactures are pushing on us today.
@wnc817 I had one in Midnight Blue with a maroon Cartier interior and a 400 under the hood. It had all-disc brakes and was the smoothest, quietest car I've ever owned.
When I was little my grandmother had a white 88 towncar. I could immediately tell how different it was than the cars my parents drove, especially how the dash looked. One of the nicest rides I have ever been in.
Absolute best way to get one of these cars is from an old person who is getting rid of it. Gotta love Scotty. I have an '03 town car with 220k miles. Runs like a dream 👍
Last October (2020), I birthday-treated myself to a 2002 Lincoln Town, Signature Series, Tiara Edition, 72,000 miles, single owner. Five grand. ...and I've already had five grand worth of beautiful, non-GPS, non-Internet, no-nonsense cruising. (And I used to be a Cadillac guy!!)
This Lincoln is absolutely beautiful for its age. It was well taken of. It's an 88. The one I have is an 05. Its beautiful and I will never get rid of it. Good episode Scott.👍👍👍
99 grand marquis and 07 town car here, I work at a dealer service center and cannot believe how many parts go bad on modern cars/trucks even with low mileage. I think I'll stick with my panthers...
@@kskeel1124 Same but 99 Cartier with 253k and a 07 designer barely 100k. New Ford trucks rusting and they new. Ppl so mad. Saw a few videos. Not bad but all the normal shiny stuff is flash rusted like it was coated with water. Idk make em cheap sell them for 50k-90k And they don't last 10 years. Sad.
I have an 04 town car silver, 22” rims, love it to death, sadly my brakes failed and I had a small crash that gave it a fender bender… I fell in love with town cars now im lookin into a 1990-97
Scotty nobody is more genuine and down to earth than you man, absolutely love getting to watch your videos so often! I hope you and the family are doing well!
I love the entire panther line, each generation of panther cars. Even the old LTDs and Lincoln/Mercurys are easy to find common parts for. I’ve also seen a few in the junk yards with bad heads but the bodies were in decent condition for parts.
Yeah, I remember buying a Ford LTD 2, with a Ford 400 engine in it for $250 in Iowa back in 1998. It was the first time that I had moved out there and I was doing donuts in the snow with it. It was really cool car, especially for only $250.
i bought myself 2 years ago a 1975 ford ltd with 351m v8, i rebuild the engine last winter and yes the parts everything are easy to find and pretty cheap even here in the netherlands the smoothes and most comfortable car i have ever driven 150 horsen and 370 nm torque 3 speed fmx its a just slow and steady it makes my day everyime i drive it
I still have the '89 Town Car I bought in High School... all my friends laughed at me since I got a "grandpa car". Other than the rear window regulators going out, it's still running like new with 185k on the clock. Much better built than that Mopar garbage.
@@donnyo639 I used to have a 73 Dart Swinger with a 318. The car was kind of a mess but looked nice and the engine always started. Through that I learned that the reverberation / rumble at about 60 mph was normal! Lol. I have great respect for the 318, I had a very short career as a ramper and once used an old tug to push back a 737. It had an old 318 in it. I remember my Swinger with fondness, love that dash with the round dials.
@@donnyo639 biggest mistake Chrysler ever made was getting rid of LA motors the 318 and 360 were fine engines utterly reliable easy to work on and extremely durable. Oh and the 4.0L straight six out of the Jeeps, they have never been able to duplicate the simplicity, reliability or durability since...
I've said it before and I'll say it again- All Things Considered, the Ford Panther platform cars are quite possibly the greatest American cars ever made. Plenty of power for most people, plenty of room, comfortable as hell and reliable for hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of miles......
Got 99 Cartier and 07 designer. Agree 100%. Plastic intake sucks, other than that it's the best. I'd not take any new car of my choosing for free. Nope. Keep that junk. Rusts in weeks, all plastic mini motors and intake runners and vvt. Junk. These cars will go a half million at least with care. Quarter with no care at all. Best V8 engine. Still see cops, taxis all the time. No change in 12 yrs. Not broke don't fix. Still should make with updated body and another 100 HP and Tq. I can dream.
@@jasonchristopher2977 Amen man. My dad has worked for the largest transportation company in Orlando FL, Mears, for almost 30 years now. He saw so many limo town cars and crown vic taxis go for hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of miles with little more than regular maintenance and very frequent oil changes (not even synthetic, just conventional every 3k).
I broke into the Transportation business with that car back in the day. Put 400K on those cars before taking them out of service. Can't beat the value...clients loved them
My Father-in-law had two Town Cars. I used to do all of the basic and scheduled maintenance on them for him. They were so easy to jack up and work on. The best part was taking it for a test drive, like riding on a cloud! The trunks WERE enormous, he could fit his trash cans in them and take them to the town dump. I really miss him and those cars!
AMEN! I have a 04 Towncar and I got grief from friends but I'm a big guy and it's a great car. Main thing I had to change was the airbags in the rear and we put the spring replacement kit back and I'm back on the road now!
@@warriormanmaxx8991 well it wasn't anything ugly, they were ribbing me since I was in my early 40's and the previous owners left their carpenters CD in the car and about how many bodies I could carry in the trunk! Haha
My first car was an 1986 Lincoln towncar bought it in 2015 for $1800 lasted until end of 2018. Sold it to a mechanic and it’s still on the road :) loved her
I daily drive a 2004 Lincoln Town Car. It is an amazingly reliable, comfortable, smooth, quiet, classy machine that will virtually run forever! I only have 16,000 miles on the clock and will own & drive it as long as I'm able!
back in 2003, i traded in my old Wrangler at a dealership...he brought out a maroon 1990 Town Car with about 60k miles on it, had only ever had the alternator and battery changed, and it had brand new General tires. at first i was like WHAAAAT?? i'm 23, are you serious? he said "just give it a test drive." man, i slipped behind that wheel....sold. my wife called it the Cloud Car. you couldn't feel one bump or rough patch in the road. it only got about 18-19 mpg in the city, but it flew on the highway and did better mpg. $3800 out the door. best car i've ever owned. we took that thing on a road trip from Chicago, to Vegas, to San Diego and back...ran like a dream.
I owned one of these, one of the most pleasant to drive cars ever. It's essentially a reskinned LTD / Marquis, reliable and low cost Ford parts, strong full frame and no freak wheel drive.
My uncle has always had Town Cars for his limousine business they're great cars with a lot of room! Currently drives an 07 Town Car with over 600,000 miles on it maybe even 700,000 by it's going but still runs! Wish Lincoln still made them!
1989 Lincoln Towncar is my absolute favorite!! That's how my uncle taught me how to drive my mom's 1978 Cadillac Eldorado... line up the hood ornament with the white line along the road to stay in the center of my lane! LOL!!
@@markjanfrancisco5156 No, but I hit a stop sign cemented in concrete shaped barrel with the right rear quarter panel of my 2001 Sante Fe by driving forward and turning right too sharp and didn't even see the sign to my right rear. D'oh!
My uncle gave my dad is 1988 brown lincoln when he moved out if country and my dad eventually sold it when I turned 13. Now that im 22 and finally able to drive I look back and wish he never sold that beauty.
On the highway my late father's '94 Lincoln Town Car got 27 mph, day in and day out. If he hadn't smoked cigars in the car on a daily basis, I would've kept it. No way to get the smell out without complete carpet replacement and deep cleaning of everything else. What wonderful cars.
I bought a used car from a smoker & used my carpet cleaner machine on it & it turned them carpets brand new looking. My seats were fabric as well so I hit the seats with the cleaner & you couldn't smell anything.
Scotty!!! I literally just bought a Town Car, a 97' Cartier edition. Ivory Pearlscent and Ivory parchment interior, sunroof, heated seats and ridiculously clean for a 233k mile car. A absolute steal for just $2,000 with frigidly cold AC. I always wanted one (still looking for a BLk/Blk 95-97 Signature). Mine was owned by a 91 yo who kept her garaged and dealer maintained, he just put on brand new tires and all 4 window motors and new intake (the aluminum crossover "revised" intake instead of the trash they came with from the factory that always cracks). She's my Sunday car and I'll take her anywhere!!! In better shape than my 11' Crown Vic P7B Interceptor (same good ol Panther chassis) and better than all the new over engineered tablets on wheels out now.
I still drive a 2002 Crown Vic. My last car was a 1999 Mercury Marque. I hate front wheel drive. I just put shocks on my car too. Worth every penny I spent.
Too bad they don’t make cars like that anymore!! Pure comfort, comfort, comfort CRUISERS, everything else be damned! You can take a 1000 mile trip in one of those and still feel refreshed!! Now, you can’t go a few seconds without the mentally deficient MORONS saying the word “sporty” every fraction of a second (rollseyes). These so called automotive “journalists” destroyed the car industry, with the constant bashing of these super comfortable cruising machines!!
@@747-pilot Absolutely. People are so impressionable that they can be told what they like even when it doesn’t serve them as well as what they had to begin with.
@@LlyleHunter Exactly!! The question I ask is, how often do you drive in a sporty way on a winding mountain road? And how often are you are you stuck in traffic on a freeway, or driving on a pothole ridden city street? (hint: close to 99% of the time, and their jaw drops! - at least some of them, who have brains!).
My father had an 88.Bought it brand new.Put 140,000 miles when he gave it to me in 94.I kept it couple more years put on another 20,000 miles on her and was still running great when I sold it.Can't kill it.Never any major problems.Always reliable.
I have a 1989 Lincoln town car and I love the car body on frame you can’t beat it. Used from taxi cab to cop car to fleet. Such a well-built platform no wonder remained unchanged for 12 years
Whether if it's intentional or not, I really like how Scotty's been uploading more about the Ford Panthers and Police Interceptors lately since the 10th year anniversary of the discontinuation of them.
My first car was an 85 Lincoln/Mercury Grand Marquis with air ride and other bells and whistles. My father gave it to me when I was 16, the car was about 15 years old, I really miss it.
I mostly remember scorching my rear and hands on the leather interior in the middle of summer. My grandpa, who had previously flown B-17s, was the captain of a number of these landboats.
Had a couple old Lincoln Town Cars in my shop this week, belt, tensioner and idler on one, brakes & brake lines on the other. Both drove awesome, like riding your living room. Great old cars
My first car was a 97 town car cartier edition, that was my dream car but sadly it was a Massachusetts car. I added 6k miles over 2.5 years, I grew up in those updated gen 2 town cars and fell in love at an early age.
I had an 88 crown Victoria. I should have kept the engine, trans and rear. And found a new body for it. I had 500,000, miles on it in 2010. And everything in the interior and electric systems started to go all at once. Lol!!! My favorite car I ever owned. These cars today have hard suspensions. That old car just floated over bumps. Damn, I miss that car!!!
I had an 89' Crown Victoria loaded with every single option including wing vents and leather for 15 years and that thing was absolutely indestructible,, still had the original R12 air conditioning at a 180000 miles,,, sold it to a guy a few years ago years and he is still driving it but he did have to do AC work finally..
@@mikeguthrie5432 Yeah I loved that thing,,, I bought it from an estate in 2006 with 88000 grandma miles on it then added a 100000 miles in 12 years. I wish I still had it at 88000 and could do it all over again !! Quickly did a radiator and all hoses. It gave me ONE mechanical scare,,,, the transmission went goofy but it was just a plastic grommet for a cable,,, the Ford replacement was a $12 brass version of the grommet and that was all it took to fix it forever....
My 78 Grand Marquis made many memories! Grandpa called it a 4 body trunk... Great for drive-ins. We could take the whole neighborhood. @SavageScotty my hero
Reminds me of my '88 Mercury Grand Marquis. same platform, different brand name. It had the 5.0, the AOD, and 2.73/1 rear axle. Cruising. It would get 25mpg on the interstate, so long as I kept it up over 70-75 mph. I had it converted to the r134 AC gas and it worked okay, not as cold as the old r12.... I drove it from 93k up to 193k miles. It handled better with polyurethane sway bar bushings and end links, and rear air shocks, tires pumped to 38psi.
And there was nothing wrong with R-12, it's more effective and efficient than anything since, as you've noticed. DuPont's patent on R-12 was running out once and for all, and it was about to become cheaper than water. Guess who owns the patent on R-134a? See what's going on?
My aunt in Seattle had an 88 and it felt like riding a cloud. A beautiful car, and it could be fast. One side of my family was GM, the other half Ford. We never argued about which brand was better. It felt like a topic that was off limits. As long as the GM or Ford ran really good, the family was happy.
My family had a 93 Lincoln town car growing up I learned to drive in that car. It was a boat for sure but it was classic American luxury at its finest and preferred it to the later 2003 town car that replaced it. The new one while having more technology didn’t have the same luxurious Lincoln feel it reminded me more of a dressed up crown victoria than a classic Lincoln. Even today I still have a soft spot for that old Lincoln and as Scotty said the hood ornament makes it super easy to keep your road boat centered in your lane. Haha
Had an '81 Crown Victoria. It was SUPER!! Lasted for YEARS and I gave EVERYONE I knew who had trouble with their Japanese cars rides to and from the repair shops. Had trouble with the carburetor and rebuilt it with a kit. It floated over the road and was QUIET, unlike every frickin car today. Granted it wasn't a Lincoln, but it was still a big Ford and they were virtually the same. Nice car, Scotty.
I love that heavy door sound. The '79 Pontiac Catalina 4-door I paid $750 for a few months ago sounds just like that. When GM and Ford knew how to make a solid car.
When my wife first came to Canada in the mid 80’s from the Philippines, her dream car was a 91 Lincoln Town Car, which she owned for 20 years, she was the hit at her place of employment as the ole ladies wanted her to drive them to Bingo on a Saturday night. All 4 of them sat in the back seat giggling like little school girls.
My cousins dad passed away had one with 30/35,000 miles,my cousin still has it,no smoking in it,still takes it to the same Ford dealership to work on that his dad did.
im 18 n my first car is an 86 LTD, literally the most beautiful car i’ve ever been in, ppl always gawk over how comfortable and how nice it is when they’re in it too lol it jus makes me laugh n smile 😂 it doesn’t run the best because it’s been sitting for 8 years but it literally still started after 8 years after only replacing the alternator which just goes to show how resilient the thing is, it is a work in progress thought but i really hope to keep the car to old age only 58k miles on it 😁
I absolutely love these old things, whether it be an early model or a late model, they will always have a unique touch of class, just a shame we never got them here in Australia
My dad owned 4 Lincolns, one of which was the same color in this video. This car takes me back to my childhood and reminds me of my dear old dad who recently passed away.🥲
I'm in the same boat you are, we just laid my Dad to rest 3 weeks ago....my parents' 50th wedding anniversary would've been last Wed, and she is not handling his death well at all, she asked me to move in with her to take care of the house and vehicles and yard work, but I know it's because she doesn't want to be alone in this house...she cries every night, and I cannot begin to describe how utterly horrific you feel when you hear your Mom cry...I don't know how to help her....
I have an 89 grand marquis and I love it! Two things that weren’t mentioned. 1) if you live where it snows, this thing is ALWAYS sideways. RWD with all the weight in the front, and of course, your LSD in the back has too high a tolerance so the back wheels will just keep spinning the same speed. I’ve turned my wheels all the way to the left, and it turned right! 2) they don’t have a lot of power. Barely enough to get out of their own way. Heavy cars. It’s smooth, can get fast speeds but not much acceleration
I had a Limo company in San Diego. My all time favorite airport transfer vehicle was a 1990 Signature Series Town Car. Terrible on gas, but it sat an add'l 5 pax comfortably, and THAT 6 BODY TRUNK could handle cruise level luggage and more. I sold it to a buddy in Tijuana with 475,000miles. (1 engine overhaul and 2 transmissions). He refurbished it like new. Last I heard it passed 650,000k and is still looking gorgeous down in T.J.😁
With my old 1991 Ford F150 Lariat with the 5.0 EFI it took over 500,000 miles before the gaskets gave up in the timing chain cover and coolant started flowing out of it . Still going but I have to baby it . Engine never been out . That ole 5.0 Windsor is stout !
That style Lincoln was my third vehicle and I absolutely loved it to death. Somebody hit it in a parking lot and totaled it I was so mad I cried for like a week.
Here in The Great Industrial Northeast, we call cars like that "Winter Vehicles". Rear wheel drive and weight goes anywhere and if you end up in the ditch, it's no big deal.
I just bought an 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis and it's absolutely brilliant. A dream to work on and I've learned so much about cars in the last few weeks of owning this thing.
My son moved to the US in 2008 and married his girlfriend. His mother in law gave him her Town Car and when I went to see him I drove it. Well, different. The computer read 8 mpg! The suspension wallowed like mad , to me being British. He sold it to a Mexican when he could afford a newer car. Later the police called as the last owner had an accident and vanished. I agree with Scotty. This was California.
This video was awesome! I've owned many panther cars, Lincolns, Grand Marquis. I loved them! The gas mileage wasn't the best, but I always felt safe in them and I loved the cushy air ride. My last Town Car was an 88, immaculate condition with brown and champagne two-tone paint with dove Grey leather interior. Wonderful car and everything worked. Took it on many road trips. Got lots of stares and compliments. Transmission went so I sold it. God I wish I still had that car. I miss that ride.
about 8 years ago my buddy bought one of these while we were in high school. We all loved that sailboat, plenty of room to sprawl out and it had huge ashtrays which we used as phone holders lol.

How many miles are you on it now, because I also have one, I love it to death
I use to have a 99, had to sell it because i was let go from my job, but im now looking for another 98 to 02
I have a ‘98 w/ 416,000 miles on it. Drives like a champ 😍
Scotty nobody is more genuine and down to earth than you man, absolutely love getting to watch your videos so often! I hope you and the family are doing well!
I love the entire panther line, each generation of panther cars. Even the old LTDs and Lincoln/Mercurys are easy to find common parts for. I’ve also seen a few in the junk yards with bad heads but the bodies were in decent condition for parts.
same
Yeah, I remember buying a Ford LTD 2, with a Ford 400 engine in it for $250 in Iowa back in 1998. It was the first time that I had moved out there and I was doing donuts in the snow with it. It was really cool car, especially for only $250.
i bought myself 2 years ago a 1975 ford ltd with 351m v8, i rebuild the engine last winter and yes the parts everything are easy to find and pretty cheap even here in the netherlands
the smoothes and most comfortable car i have ever driven 150 horsen and 370 nm torque 3 speed fmx its a just slow and steady it makes my day everyime i drive it
I just picked up a new starter from mine I have a 2000 the old one froze in the winter somehow it was so weird and cold anyway it cost me $39.
The fact that Crown Vics were used for taxis and cop cars says a lot if they can handle the wear and tear of tasks like that.
I still have the '89 Town Car I bought in High School... all my friends laughed at me since I got a "grandpa car". Other than the rear window regulators going out, it's still running like new with 185k on the clock. Much better built than that Mopar garbage.
God bless you for speaking the truth despite your UA-cam name!
@@ijzerkoekie LoL, I'm more of a Duster 318 guy, but I can respect the FoMoCo Panthers.
@@ijzerkoekie The 318 is a legend and would easily outlast the car, which would usually rust away. My Cordoba starts still starts every time.
Engines may be reliable but nothing else is. The electrical accessories are a nightmare.
@@golden.lights.twinkle2329 A Ford might rattle more as it gets older, but it never quits!
@@golden.lights.twinkle2329 still depends which car but okay my guy
I had an 80 Lincoln 2 door 351 in it. when I was 18,I loved that car, rode like you were on a cloud. built tough. miss it so much. many memories in it
I believe the 351 still used a carburetor, yes?
I broke into the Transportation business with that car back in the day. Put 400K on those cars before taking them out of service. Can't beat the value...clients loved them
I'm looking for a 2007-2011 Town car now I'm seeing a few around with 60-70k miles
Ive owned several of these including the the ford Crown Victoria. Real car era
Had an 86 back in the day. One of the best cars I ever owned. Damn comfortable too!
AMEN! I have a 04 Towncar and I got grief from friends but I'm a big guy and it's a great car. Main thing I had to change was the airbags in the rear and we put the spring replacement kit back and I'm back on the road now!
re: "grief from friends" - those are not your "friends."
@@warriormanmaxx8991 well it wasn't anything ugly, they were ribbing me since I was in my early 40's and the previous owners left their carpenters CD in the car and about how many bodies I could carry in the trunk! Haha

Same my 2003 is converted to coil and still rides great we are traveling well.
I only have 16,000 miles on the clock and will own & drive it as long as I'm able!

back in 2003, i traded in my old Wrangler at a dealership...he brought out a maroon 1990 Town Car with about 60k miles on it, had only ever had the alternator and battery changed, and it had brand new General tires.
at first i was like WHAAAAT?? i'm 23, are you serious? he said "just give it a test drive."
man, i slipped behind that wheel....sold.
my wife called it the Cloud Car. you couldn't feel one bump or rough patch in the road. it only got about 18-19 mpg in the city, but it flew on the highway and did better mpg.
$3800 out the door.
best car i've ever owned.
we took that thing on a road trip from Chicago, to Vegas, to San Diego and back...ran like a dream.
As being a mechanic myself and started working on older cars such as the Lincoln it takes me back I love the way they made cars in that day
I owned one of these, one of the most pleasant to drive cars ever. It's essentially a reskinned LTD / Marquis, reliable and low cost Ford parts, strong full frame and no freak wheel drive.
Rear wheel drive as God intended.
My uncle has always had Town Cars for his limousine business they're great cars with a lot of room! Currently drives an 07 Town Car with over 600,000 miles on it maybe even 700,000 by it's going but still runs! Wish Lincoln still made them!
AN 06 AND AN 89 sit in a garage not to far down the road. THEY both are in garage kept shape.
1989 Lincoln Towncar is my absolute favorite!! That's how my uncle taught me how to drive my mom's 1978 Cadillac Eldorado... line up the hood ornament with the white line along the road to stay in the center of my lane! LOL!!
Hi did you ever park your Lincoln in between to other cars and then backing it out with out your front end hitting the car next to you?
@@markjanfrancisco5156 No, but I hit a stop sign cemented in concrete shaped barrel with the right rear quarter panel of my 2001 Sante Fe by driving forward and turning right too sharp and didn't even see the sign to my right rear. D'oh!
Bought my grandpa's 2001 for 2k years ago and it was the best car I ever owner amd 21 mpg city. I miss it. No better driving car.
My parents had a 1988 towncar it was like driving a sofa and super reliable.
My dad had a 1989 Cadillac which is basically the same thing. I sure loved that car. I have a 1998 caddie which is not working as I speak.
I still drive a 2002 Crown Vic. My last car was a 1999 Mercury Marque. I hate front wheel drive. I just put shocks on my car too. Worth every penny I spent.
"Geez, we can play basketball back here"
My reaction to a Lincoln Town car on a business trip a long time ago
Always like riding in them
I usually ponder about how many snitches fit in the trunk, given who bought them.

Whether if it's intentional or not, I really like how Scotty's been uploading more about the Ford Panthers and Police Interceptors lately since the 10th year anniversary of the discontinuation of them.
Sad day for all panther lovers indeed...
This past june I got a 2007 town car signature limited. The guy that sold it to me got in trade of concrete work for an old lady. Perfect shape.
My parents always had Town Cars !! They were the cream of the crop!!! Oh the late 70’s and 80’s!!
Had a couple old Lincoln Town Cars in my shop this week, belt, tensioner and idler on one, brakes & brake lines on the other. Both drove awesome, like riding your living room. Great old cars
We need mechanics like you to keep these baby's going.

Quickly did a radiator and all hoses.
It gave me ONE mechanical scare,,,, the transmission went goofy but it was just a plastic grommet for a cable,,, the Ford replacement was a $12 brass version of the grommet and that was all it took to fix it forever....

Hopefully the guy realizes what he has and takes good care of the Lincoln, what a cool car .
These old blocky cars may not be aerodynamic but they look BADASS.
My 78 Grand Marquis made many memories! Grandpa called it a 4 body trunk... Great for drive-ins. We could take the whole neighborhood.
@SavageScotty my hero
You sure grandpa wasn't part of the mafia?
Trying to buy an '88 right now. I absolutely love big old boats like these!
I've had 2 Grand Marquis, wish I had one now. As usual Lincoln had a 3" stretched wheelbase.
I sooooo miss that R12 refrigerant, made your vehicle feel like a meat locker
And there was nothing wrong with R-12, it's more effective and efficient than anything since, as you've noticed. DuPont's patent on R-12 was running out once and for all, and it was about to become cheaper than water. Guess who owns the patent on R-134a? See what's going on?

My aunt in Seattle had an 88 and it felt like riding a cloud. A beautiful car, and it could be fast. One side of my family was GM, the other half Ford. We never argued about which brand was better. It felt like a topic that was off limits. As long as the GM or Ford ran really good, the family was happy.

My dad worked in the stamping plant. He always drove a Lincoln Continental.

Lincoln Town Car always one of my favorites. Even the last ones built are great cars and getting rare. Just good solid transportation in style.
Those newer ones 2003 to 2011 were $50,000 plus new.

That man is driving a classic tank!! And I love it
What a steal for 2800 looks better then most modern cars
I have an 89 grand marquis and I love it! Two things that weren’t mentioned.
1) if you live where it snows, this thing is ALWAYS sideways. RWD with all the weight in the front, and of course, your LSD in the back has too high a tolerance so the back wheels will just keep spinning the same speed. I’ve turned my wheels all the way to the left, and it turned right!
2) they don’t have a lot of power. Barely enough to get out of their own way. Heavy cars. It’s smooth, can get fast speeds but not much acceleration
They are so fckin heavy and huge
Gotta love the old Box Panthers man they're the true American made cars built on the toughest Platform Ford has ever made.
Those Panther cars will run forever. They are built like TANKS
That V8 Sounds Very American! Love it.
Had an 89, and an 88. Loved them. Slid into a curb one winter. Kept driving like nothing happened.
Here in The Great Industrial Northeast, we call cars like that "Winter Vehicles".
Rear wheel drive and weight goes anywhere and if you end up in the ditch, it's no big deal.

What a gem! I'd take that over a new car any day.
I just bought an 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis and it's absolutely brilliant. A dream to work on and I've learned so much about cars in the last few weeks of owning this thing.
Back when this and other cars had real bumpers.very good chrome, lots of stainless steel and or aluminum plus glass headlights.
