I like that he addressed how each interaction we have with a new person creates a new avatar. I think this is a part of identity that most people don't really understand.

There's a lot of emotional depth in this talk, enjoyed it but wasn't prepared.
This is such an incredible innovation. I instantly thought of a dear friend whose husband passed away so unexpectedly. They had two very young children and the way my heart broke thinking of them growing up and not knowing him was just so much... this sort of thing would be such a treasure to people in similar circumstances.

I love the idea of capturing the sensory details. Photos and videos only capture so much. The smell of a loved one, the touch - those are the things that truly stay with us.
One of the things I wish i could capture is also tastes. If i could only "feel" again the smells and tastes of the meals my grandmother used to cook me when i was a kiddo coming back from school. Priceless

I think this is why it's so important to have a creative outlet while you're alive. IMO when we observe art we get a real sense of the person who created it. That's where their "thoughts and consciousness and unique personalities" are really on display.

I wonder how being able to access and relive memories would change the way we grieve and process loss. it's a heavy question.
The questions of consciousness are interesting. I think we are just threads of one collective consciousness. When we die our thread goes back to the source. It's not gone it's just not in a body for the time being. Maybe digitizing that would mess with things somehow
Personally I'm into this idea. I don't think there's enough re-examination of philosophy with modern context in mind
This would make for some really beautiful memorials but not sure how healthy it would be beyond that? If we go by the saying that grief is love you can't express, but you are expressing it with this digitized version of a loved one... well I don't know. I guess a lot of human behaviour is changing though so maybe this is just another one of those things.
Practical question: How feasible is all this? We're talking about preserving everything from DNA to scent. Sounds like a logistical nightmare.
Yeah I don't know about this one lol obviously death is a huge part of the human experience and I think societally speaking we already deal with it so, so poorly. People can become so consumed by their grief without understanding that they just need to find a new outlet for the love they have for that person and if there's some kind of digital version of that person I think it could make things a lot worse

I'm sorry but the opening of this "when you did are you truly dead?" lol yes. Yes you are. Living in someones memory or ever preserved digitally is not the same as living it's like a ghost run or an echo, the same every time.

Why are we even trying to preserve these things though? Experiences should be _experienced_ and then we move on to the next thing.
Wow there is a lot to unpack here. I think this kind of thinking comes from a pretty unhealthy relationship with death that our society just doesn't want to acknowledge. Death is a part of life. Knowing someone will die and your time is finite makes you cherish them so much more. Imagine if this becomes the "normal" thing in the future where you know you can still hear, see, smell your loved one even after they're gone.
Interesting talk, but let's be real. Once the body dies, that's it. No amount of digital tinkering can change that. Let's focus on making the most of the time we have now

True. Some memories should not be preserved, sometime people do mistakes. Cementing these mistakes for generating is not always a good thing , forgetting (data purge) is also something important as not all data should live forever
