I'm going to go out on a limb here and state that Eddie Levert was the proudest person in that auditorium that evening.........with Smokey Robinson a close second. This was an absolutely CLASSIC rendition of Philly Soul & Motown's finest "Old-School" hits. I've never seen this video until now........it's made my "favorite" list.
This was from the 1992 NAACP Image Awards show. The Tempts, Tops, Dells, and O'Jays were inducted into the Image Hall of Fame that night with this tribute by Boyz II Men (who had won best new artist that night) & LeVert.
It's so sad. They were so young. I was working in Birmingham, Alabama when Gerald Levert passed. His relative (her last name is Levert as well) was my coworker. She looks just like them. We felt for her.😥😥
I was just thinking of this. You're absolutely right. Too much autotune not enough good ole fashioned singing. The old timers are so happy and having fun. Not today though.
They’re awesome!! Truly awesome!!! Old School!!💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾❤️❤️🥰🥰 I look at this daily. All of them are awesome!! Love the part when old school heads got the young ones too funny!! Gerald is singing love his moves!! RIP Gerald!! Gone but never ever forgotten. ❤❤😇🕊️🕊️🕊️
I think that Boyz II Men gave a showing of just how good they really were during this performance, individually and as a group. All together this was quite a wonderful and spectacular performance.
OMG THIS IS THE BEST TRIBUTE IVE EVERRRRR SEEN!!!!! I WAS SCREAMING THE WHOLE PERFORMANCE!!!! I DONT KNOW IF I WAS SCREAMING MORE FOR THE ELDERS JUMPING UP AND DANCING AND GIVING THEM SUPPORT OR LEVERT AND BIIM KILLING IT ON STAGE!!!!!!!!!! I NEVER KNEW LEVERT AND BIIM PERFORMED TOGETHER!!!! THEY WERE AMAAAAAZING TOGETHER!!!!
Some where in our culture at the beginning of 2000s, we stopped giving our ELDERS their flowers while they are still with us. Exodus 20:12 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. I know my generation was raised by the village. There are many others like mine. My only suggestion to you all is to give your ELDERS their flowers while they are still living. Once they are gone, its too late.
It just dawned on me that we may never see this caliber of performance again. We now have trash on award shows but hopefully we can always go to UA-cam to capture the wonderful memories such as this performance.
While in jail, Sean Levert was denied medication he was prescribed so he died from complications with that. Gerald Levert died from the complications of medication that was all prescribed to him.
this was a memorable tribute...I love the four tops...the dells the ojays and temptations.....llavert and Boyz 2 men did a marvellous job ...I give hats of to the 4 tops...temptations the dells the mighty ojays the 4 tops over the years I listened and grew up on everyone of these groups..omg...I understand why they call the ojays ....the mighty mighty ojays ....wow!!!!!👍👌.....keep on making music ...I'm 55 year old african American woman born in the early 60's and I'm happy and proud to say I grew up listening to these legends...I'm glad I can google my old time legend groups....I love you guys......
By far the greatest performance ever assembled by two great singing groups who didn't try to upstage each other but helped elevate one another to the next level!
Excellent, excellent, excellent! They really looked like they were having fun! I noticed the excitement of the audience especially when Gerald Levert sang!
We’re really cheated with the loss of Gerald! One of the most underrated singers in my opinion! I’m glad he was able to perform for his father. The O’Jays another underrated group!
Evelyn Brown Imagine being one of those singers with a Mini-Me😔Word is that Gerald was supposed to take over when the OJs retired and (I guess) be the piece of Eddie still out here💔💔
I have watched this excellent so many times and I'll never get tired. So sad , ALL the beautiful voices on the stage and some in the audience, , like Ms. NATALIE COLE, GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN REAL MUSIC, REAL VOICES AND REAL INSTRUMENTS. REAL TALENT. REST IN PEACE GUYS.
What a fabulous tribute to some of Motown's greatest acts. Boyz II Men and Levert did their predecessors proud - their harmonies were spot on. The "singing" apple didn't fall far from the tree in the Levert boys: they sound so much like their father, Eddie, who is an exceptional vocalist. Too sad that Eddie lost both his two sons at age 40 (Sean 39).
Definitely the best performance ever between these 2 fabulous groups! Rest n Paradise Gerald and Sean Levert. Miss these beautiful voiced! And Gerald's stage presence is unmatched 4 a young crooner! Just made the ladies melt every time! Me 2!!
Love love love this!!!!! This doesnt exist anymore! The length of 1-2 talents doing a tribute, the energy, the choreography, the stage layout, the talent EVERYTHING! This was a breath of fresh air to watch. Almost makes ne want to cry. Now the boys II men sit in the seats and watch their tributes. Oh my gosh man... Just nostalgicly beautiful.
That was the best tribute preformance I have ever seen in my life! I love the songs that they preformed they preformed them just as the orginal artist would have To see Eddie's reaction to his sons preforming was priceless This looks like they were preforming at the NAACP Image awards, where ever they were preforming they were great, and these young artist need to take note, that this is how you sing and dance at the sametime! I love both groups and may Sean and Gerald both Rest In Peace!
damn they don't make music like this anymore. I'm 29 and consider myself an 'old soul' when it comes to music. Bring back music that had meaning, expressed love and came from the soul. Great music like this became extinct a long time ago. RIP Teddy Bear and Eddie LeVert
we already have it miss "old soul"!! jill scott, anthony hamilton, goepele, joe, erykah badu, maxwell,D'angelo, tank, floetry, vivian green, ledisi, charlie wilson, jaheim, my main man..."Mr. R. You can tell they had so much fun putting this tribute performance together. Isn't it sad we don't have any male singing groups in this new generation? I'll keep playing the classics
I did some digging and I believe this is from the 24th Annual Image Awards in 1992. Love this! Today's performers need to pay attention because this is what we are lacking today.
I don’t watch awards shows anymore like I use to. They definitely don’t pay homage like this anymore. I’m so glad I grew up to this. Today’s artist wish they had someone singing from their catalog of hits. R.I.P. to all the legends they showed.
one damn good performance by all participants, i wish i were there to be a part of the energy in the building that night. i love both groups. God bless those that are still around to celebrate life and music. for all those that we have lost god keep them in his arms safe and sound. may their souls rest peacefully till he call us all! god bless all who read this also!

What I enjoyed about this is , they weren't the best Dancers but they did the damn thang, it also let you know that these boys are just some cold blooded bonified singers.
If you've never seen The Four Tops and The Temptations perform, this is about as good as its going to get. I LOVED IT... PRECIOUS MEMORIES... 1983 at the Front Row in CLEVELAND, OHIO❤❤❤❤
Omg, you can watch this forever! I love the way that paid tribute to our greats who came through and opened doors for the next generation of music artists. I loved so loved this.

So much talent on one stage!!! So many memories such an outstanding performance Bittersweet Yet i am full of joy to have had the pleasure to see and here real talent!!! Levert and his brother gone, and Natalie Cole, quite a few others in the audience are no longer with us.

Gerald did a great job singing his dad's songs. And Shawn was jamming
