    Full conversation with Magnus Carlsen: ua-cam.com/video/0ZO28NtkwwQ/v-deo.html
    Quick note from Lex: The camera on Magnus died 20 minutes in. Most folks still just listen to audio-only version, but here on UA-cam we did our best to still make it interesting to watch & listen by adding image overlays. I mess things up sometimes, like in this case, and it hits me hard when I do. I'm sorry for this. I'm always working hard to improve. I hope you understand. Thank you for your patience and support along the way. I love you all.

      @@yusouph2002 pressure doesn't mean much if you're not able to find the winning line or breaking through your opponents defence after putting pressure,
      Ding was able to defend really well and take the opportunities,
      18 games in a row is a good sample size to prove you can dominate your opponent,
      For me the match proved them extremely leveled, in my opinion magnus' comment on this interview is exactly what happened on the match, it could literally have gone either way... (No clear dominance of Ding over Ian or Ian over Ding)

      @@micahclawrence I apologize for the length, but answering your question is gonna take some writing.
      though it’s wild speculation on my part what your motivations are, your reply certainly gives off the same vibe as your comment. Or rather the way you chose to phrase both. Your reply for starters. You ask what sinister motivations you have, but I never said they where sinister. Just wrong, i.e. bad. So it’s strange that you phrase it back as if I accused you of having malicious intent. Also the sarcastic tone of your reply, as if you couldn’t have bad reasons for doing/thinking anything, is curious. This could of course be because you’re defensive, but it could also be because you’re a narcissistic person. The sort of person who thinks he’s superior to others, and feels that upholding any pretense that he’s not is tiresome. Who thinks all humility must be false, and that we should do away with it… see what I’m getting at? No? Well like I said, it’s just wild speculation. I wouldn’t stake my life on it or anything.
      The one thing I will say for certain though, is that if the people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing had a catch phrase, it would be “facts are facts”.

    To have an understanding of another player’s calculation depth is impressive because it means you have learned by playing them or by studying their games that they miss certain moves that require a certain depth of calculation to make sense. I’m not sure this pattern would be easily discernible to weaker players.

    • @williamshake7559
      @williamshake7559 Рік тому

      This is because he has out calculated Nepo often in deeper lines to win an edge in their games against each other. Whereas Ding has kept pace with him through the complexity. His understanding of others' calculations is really measured in terms of a comparison with his own. Ding probably has a good idea on Magnus's and Nepo's calculation depth as well. It is why Ding never shied away from bringing Nepo into complexity during their match. Remember game 6, with Ding's mating net that no super GM could understand even with Stockfish 15. Remember game 12, where Ding threw Nepo off course into a blunder with his Queen move.

    It deserves mention, RE the 2016 WCh with Karjack : Magnus "won" by the score of 6-6. And that was one win for Karjakin, one win for Magnus and ten draws. [He "won" according the fashionable newer 21st century style rules, in that after the match was over, they proceeded to a "rapid tiebreak." However *rapid* chess is a different discipline -- it even has a separate world championship, as does (thirdly) blitz chess. So then, after 12 games to have "beaten" your opponent six to six ... well [cough] sort of. It's interesting to hear how Magnus tells this story, as if he actually remembers it that way!.]

    wow this is actually something I kind of half thought about before but I have a way better understanding of it after listening to Carlsen's comments, its what I was getting at just free thinking but could never come to the conclusion of. But to go off topic a bit, small sample size matches are kind of necessary because nobody wants to view a 100 game match. On the other hand, like the video explains small sample sizes do not do a good job of making sure the better player wins as often as they should. So what's the fix is my question? Do we just need to create a better game? Is small sample size not being a great indication of ability really a flaw?
