First single I bought from my part-time job at Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1970 at 16. The other was "Be sure it's true when you say I love you" Can't remember who sang that but why do they tug at my heart still?
Damn! I know I loved this song when I was just a kid, I'd forgotten how it affected my emotions then and still now at 69 it still makes me suck in air! Now in 2023! 🙂 This would be a good song for our aphetas . . . 🎵"I won't have you're loving . . . Oh! Baby no more" 🎵 I had the same emotional response from the Beatles, Oh Darling and 'She's so heavy!' As well, as Roy Orbison's: 'Only the lonely' . . . So, do any 'armchair analysists' want to tackle my 'Stuckness?!' SO brilliant and SO unlike anything else in its time! . . . Aussie proud! 🦘✨
The great shame of it all is that The Loved Ones couldn't break it in the USA or Britain, because back then, Australia counted for nothing. One of the most original bands of the 1960s... worldwide.
Have just discovered the Loved Ones wrote this, I always thought it was a cover of a blues song (like their great Blueberry Hill cover). Wow, what an incredible song. Great musicians and vocals are killer. Am going to listen to this all day with extra respect for this fantastic song.
The sound obviously suffers from the original video tape, so id recommend going to the original recording.. but, what a voice! From around the time as Stevie Marriott, and id suggest close to his very high standard..
The lead singer, Gerry Humphries died some years ago. I worked with the keyboard player Treva Richards for a while in a government department in the 70s. Not sure what happened to the other two. Absolutely under rated band, they were fabulous and I still own their Magic Box album.
That unique voice of Gerry Humphries...What a brilliant Band & music....❤️
Honestly it rates with the best bloody legendary singer
I only had a couple of records when I was young. The loved ones were played constantly. Nearly drove my mum nuts. Top volume .

It is a great song, sung brilliantly
Loved Ones remain one of the very best of Oz music, will forever love them and the voice of Jerry
Almost 60 years on and this still sounds great.
Heard this in the movie chopper. Never forgot it
Brilliant. At a time when most every thing else on the radio is completely forgettable
So talented, and what a voice! Despite it was 1960s wwwoooowww
I remember Gerry playing clarinet with the Red Onions Jazz Band . Great clarinets
