Thank you very much! Very detailed and well structured review, the best I've seen on UA-cam.
I can't decide between this model and the Artist Pro 16 with X3 stylus. I know you like the cable output on this tablet. But I'm looking at the most important metrics. I've never used a graphics screen before.
The Artist Pro 16's advantages I see are:
      1) sRGB-133%, Adobe RGB - 99%. But I don't know if the color reproduction and screen quality is better than the Artist 16 (2nd Gen) in practice
      2) There are wheels for control. Many people say that it is very convenient.
      3) There is a pen case for stylus.
But if Artist 16 (2nd Gen) is better in the most important metrics like drawing quality, color reproduction, stability, reliability etc., then I will choose it. Which model is better in your using experience? Please give me some advice.

@@Seriousadvert Drawing performance is going to be quite similar. Maybe the X3 pen is slightly better. As for the other features usefulness, it really comes down to personal preference.
I only use keyboard shortcuts so extra hotkeys or dials are not a selling point for me. This pen display has 92% AdobeRGB (measured) and I consider anything to be above 90% to be really good in terms of colour accuracy.
The pen case is not a selling point for me too.
I'm not really into all those extra features. For example, I find the UGEE U1600 to be a good pen display because it provides the bare minimum with just the screen and pen, and that's good enough for drawing. www.parkablogs.com/content/artist-review-ugee-u1600-pen-display
As for stability, reliability. I can't say much because I usually do not test these pen displays for long periods of time. You can check XPPen forum on Reddit.com to see if there are people complaining about them.

The hole in the corner, as far as I know, is for securing display models to fixed position in a store via a sturdy wire which you'd loop through, so people cant easily walk out of the store with it.

For me, the biggest difference between using a pen display vs a tablet is that, with the pen display, I have my art always on the computer.
With an iPad, I have to fuss with iCloud and multiple copies. (Which is why I gave them up.)

Thank you for the review. I've been watching your videos for years and they're always so detailed and helpful! I'm mainly eying this tablet cuz of the pink color (lol) but also cuz I'm on a budget. I'm kinda worried the line wobble would bother me but I'll just have to try it myself and see, when I can afford it
Edit: I got this tablet and I've been using it for the last few hours. I think they fixed the line wobble cuz I don't see it. There is shoe stringing tho so if I try to do fast strokes or flick, the ends don't taper nicely. It kinda just suddenly stops but there's still a thin line after for the "taper". (Mini edit for this part: I have been informed there is a taper setting in clip studio. Brush settings > correction > taper. I set mine around 40-50)
Another issue I had was the initial setup. I thought it was a tablet issue but it was an issue with clip studio, so if you use clip studio and the pen tracking doesn't work after you tried calibrating, go to File > Preferences > Tablet and make sure Tablet PC is selected!! Mine was set to Wintab and it was driving me insane trying to figure out what was wrong.

I've been waiting for this review ever since my hunt for a new pen display tablet has started! (Which was last week :P)
I've only ever used the small screen-less tablets like the Wacom bamboo but I've been drawing for 10+ years on it now, so I'd like to treat myself to an upgrade for my upcoming birthday, especially since Wacom isn't the only big producer now and I've heard many people saying that smaller brands have basically caught up now - kind of how AMD used to be worse than Intel but now is on the same level!
I find myself a little stuck with making a decision, however. I'm stuck choosing between the Huion Kamvas 16 (2021) and the XP-Pen Artist 16 (2nd Gen) - which of the two would you go for?
I have also started considering the Huion Kamvas 16 (2.5k) - would this one be more worth it compared to the other two options?
For me personally colours are important and also how it feels (which is a very subjective thing ofc!). I draw semi-professionally so making a decision has been really really hard for me as I'd like to make the right choice from the get go hahaha.
Absolutely love your reviews too! They're super well structured, easy to understand, good to follow and only talk about the important bits. And the best part is you're being honest and also highlighting cons! Thanks so much for these videos and your blog posts - they are incredibly helpful! :D

    • @teohontech7141

This XP-Pen is better than Huion Kamvas 16 as it has better colour support and image quality. The Huion matte drawing surface is has more texture and the anti-glare affects the image quality.
Between this XP-Pen vs Huion Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K), the Huion is better because the resolution is higher so everything will look sharper. But price is USD 599 vs XP-Pen $399.
In terms of value for money, I would say the XP-Pen is more worth the money simply because it's cheaper. But both XP-Pen and the Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K) are worth the money.

@@bongobongo3661 I ended up choosing the Huion 2.5k and I absolutely love it! It was in my budget, had better colour % and I preferred the design over the XP-Pen in the end. I've been working with it for a while and can say it's a really great feel and I'd recommend it if you have the budget! Only negative so far is that I find it hard to scale up but I'm not sure if I just didn't figure it out yet or if it's windows just not reducing the blurriness enough. (When I scale up windows on the tablet, some apps can get blurry and the one that gets blurry is unfortunately the art program I use the most :') )
That and I'd say the colour noise is fairly noticable when you work with whites - with all other colours I dont notice a thing and the colours are nice.)
I don't mind small icons though at all and I prefer things to look nice and crisp anyway!
Hope this answer helps, it took me weeks to decide and even when I bought the huion I wasn't sure I made the right choice, but I bought it with the mindset that if I don't like it, I can return it and buy option B instead. Luckily that worked out for me and I didn't need to return it. It's an amazing tablet!

    • @teohontech7141
      @teohontech7141  7 місяців тому

If you use the plastic nibs, scratches and fine marks through usage is kinda unavoidable. Otherwise you can get the felt nibs.
Screen protector replacement is not easy because to align perfectly and to make sure there are no air bubbles or dust is not easy. And those screen protectors will go through wear and tear usage too in the future.
Unless the scratch is deep to the extent that it actually affects the pen's movement, I don't think it's worth changing the screen protector.

It's baffling that XP Pen and Huion do not include the USB-C cable since they so heavily advertise that this thing is ultra portable because of that very function.
They're willing to not include it at the chance you're gullible enough to spend $63 for their official cables vs an Anker cable that goes for $14 for the same price?

UGEE is the parent company of XPPen, and many of their pen displays share the same driver. E.g. UGEE U1600 uses the same driver as the XPPen Artist 16 (2nd gen). UGEE has very similar drawing performance. UGEE is cheaper because they don't have shortcut buttons, and the display design is very simple. In terms of value for money, UGEE provides more value because it's cheaper. Right now I think it's less than US $250 for a 16-inch.

If you're talking about pen performance, the improvement is slightly better initial activation force and hence accuracy. But unless you have the new and old pen side by side to compare, it's difficult to tell the difference. Reason being drawing pen technology has matured many years ago. It's alright to buy the previous model if the price is good.

    • @teohontech7141

I don't like how the cable come out from the Innovator 16. The Artist 16 (2nd gen) has more sturdy cable connection.
Anyway, if you have limited budget, I recommend the UGEE U1600 pen display instead which is USD 159 now on Amazon after a $100 coupon. UGEE is the parent company of XPPen and that pen display is a no-frills pen display with good drawing performance and nice colours for the display. amzn.to/45s8Lb5

I don't understand why they changed the pen technology. The X3 pens are clearly worse than what they had before so I don't get it. Yeah the activation force is a little better, but the lines are worse. The original Artist 12 was better than the Artist 12 Pro and ESPECIALLY the 2nd gen version

It's best to get it from XP-Pen because the cable connector has to be small enough to go into the pen display. But the USB-C cable from XP-Pen is more expensive than other brands.
I've tried the Spigen USB-C cable and it fits, and is cheaper. But I'm not sure if there are different versions of Spigen USB-C cable that have larger connectors that cannot fit.
