I’m comparing pretty much exactly these tablets to make an ask at work since I’ve been told there’s some extra funds at the end of this fiscal year. I want to get the best tablet for the money and one that will be comfortable for me to use without making a huge ask that may get turned down. This was very informative.
From my experience, Huion is probably the best overall given its price. However, if you're getting them for multiple employees, Huion has some pretty bad qc, and many people (myself included) have tablets where the coated etching is uneven, causing some areas to be etched and some to be completely smooth.
honestly, got the "cheaper" 16 X-Pen, which is not 4k, and, at least with my eyesight, is totally absolutely fine. I find the pen extra good!! Also have an ipad pro, WITH touch screen. Never used the short cuts much. Also, the displacement in my Xpen is unnoticeable. Had a Huion cheaper and smaller one, the pen was not ideal.
'I'm unsure why these companies are getting rid of express keys on their tablets' 'you can always buy the shortcut remote separately if you want' I think we might have found the reason boys pack it up.
Thanks for this. I tried all three and IMHO, In short, among the 4k options, Wacom is pricey, and Huion/Xpen have quality issues. #1 If you can afford it, the Wacom is the safest way to go. Best quality hardware w built in express keys and legs, best pen, best drivers. #2 Huion and Xp_pen 4k models feel like Ver 1.0. Decent quality, but with rough edges and questionable design choices. The Wacom really shines here as Ver 2.0++ A. Huion 16 4k rounded shell back shape does not work well with some stands. The fit of the shell to the screen is poor and comes apart too easy and can result it the screen warping. B. Xp_Pen 16 4k Pen is dated and performs poorly compared to the others, plus it has only 1 side barrel button. Hardware drivers may be questionable. #3 Huion later released a "2.5K" 16 model with much better hardware design (I tried that one too), lower priced w the same screen color as the top end 4k model. Over time the options have evolved a bit * Wacom 16 Pro 2021 can now be bought new on Ebay for ~ $800-$900 from time to time. If you need 4k and/or touch this is the best choice. * Huion 16 2.5K has much improved hardware. and is the most portable in the ~$500 price range. If you don't need touch or 4K this option is outstanding for value and portability. * Xp-Pen is showing off brand-new pen tech, so it might be good to wait to see how that works out?
Wacom has its issues as well. No tablet is perfect. Just because some brand comes from Japan doesn't always mean it is better quality. The same applies to USA.
Hey Brad hope you're good as always, I have a request: can you make a video about * how to start digital drawing and which things are needed to do it as a beginner in 2022* a brief long video about all the essentials needed for starting as a beginner digital artist. And a huge thank you for creating such valuable content for free! I have learned a lot from your videos.
I thought I will never need any touchscreens for art but drawing on a Galaxy Tab have spoiled me with them that I'll afraid if I ever upgrade to a display tablet my muscle memory will register every drawing on screen = touchscreen lol. Thanks so much for the review! I'm def more used to Huion products as of late so that's def my pick, hopefully they'll create a touch version for this tablet in the future!
@@koifishflavor Yeah I'm aware! As stated, its mostly bc I'm more used to Huion products. If in any cases touchscreens aren't a thing with future Huion tablets then I def might switch to Xp-pen ahaha
Yeah, I've found myself using my Galaxy S22 Ultra more than my Huion Pro 4k Plus. The touch screen really helps, but the smooth display makes it more difficult to do linework.
knowing the pens have wobble when drawing the lines "without the stabilization/smoothing" is cool and all. But I really want to see how the pen will do when using it in real life scenarios. because nobody will use these pens without the smoothing/stabilization. and most people I know even professional graphics artists, and illustrators is using the pen with the smoothing ON. most of them used "15 smoothing/stabilization" and the lowest I saw, Me included is using "7 smoothing/stabilization".
Granted I am not a pro (just a hobbyist) but I never use stabilization. Feels too digital to me, I want the little wobbles and imperfections from my hand to come through in what I draw. That said, I’m sure you’re correct that many artists do have some amount of stabilization on most or all of the time. To each their own!
Really helpful video. Thank you for posting it. I did not know about the touch gestures. I assumed they all had it and I'm so used to them on the iPad in Procreate. The Huion went from first choice to second choice as I'm not sure if I could use a display tablet without it...that cost difference though...
please make comparison between xp pen 15.6 pro and xp pen 16 2nd generation. The price almost the same and right now I'm really hard thinking and considering which to choose. I think a lot of people have the same mind with me about this...
Ever since I learned I could use software to map a 8bitdo controller to do any shortcuts I want, I've stopped using the built in shortcut buttons on my screen. Layout is easier to remember, and then I can bring the same exact shortcut device to every single computer I do art on and have it the same.
I know it ultimately comes down to personal preference.... BUT. I've decided to make the leap back into art after a long loonnng time away from creative endeavors after University art school. WHAT WOULD YOU DO in this $500 kind of range? Wacom, Hui, iPad or other? I've watched so many reviews but I'm just paralyzed by indecision.
same dude, I'm tossing up between all the options, but Huion definitely wins for now. Why? I'm just not sure I'll get back to creating seriously enough to pick up a Wacom and I'm also afraid I'll break the tablet if it's not firmly attached to the desk, and the Huion is unlike the x-pen I had at university
I loved Wacom, however they lost me as a customer over the years due to overpriced products, quirks in the drivers, and just design elements that were not as good as good as the alternatives. Would love to go back if they actually got competitive in both price and design.
oh i can add another one to the list. the site you go to to download the drivers from is locked (for me?), every time i try to go to it i get "404 forbidden"
@@neko_my_cat Probably something on your end. Sometimes that can be a browser issue, which can be fixed by clearing the cache or using an incognito mode in the browser. I had to get some Wacom drivers not that log ago for my Wacom Color Calibrator tool, and the web portal was still acting normal.
I know I always ask this... but... what about the screen itself? Do they have smooth glass, etched glass, plastic screen protectors (that will eventually become full of little scratches and ruin the sharpness and color perception)?
I got the normal 16 inch wacom and I neither notice the difference between 4k nor do I miss it. Imo it's a far more desirable resolution at larger sizes (20"+) where individual pixels on lower res screens are far more noticable. I genuinely cannot see the pixels in the 1080p version.
There's also accessories to consider. For instance, the Wacom Pro Pen Slim is lighter and more comfortable to use for me, which let me draw for longer. Not sure if there is similar option on the Huion/XP-pen side.
Isn't it strange how we all have such different tastes on stylus weight? I used to have a Dell Canvas and I loved th solid weighty stylus that came with it. Right now, I've spent 3 years getting used to the weight of my zbook stylus and even though it's highly rated (doesn't work on Cintiq screens) I'd swap in a heartbeat for a heavy Dell Canvas pen.
@@fablewalls yeah, it's all personal preference and maybe also the state of your hand. Having wrist problem myself, I tend to avoid heavier pen. The slimmer profile and lighter weight of Pro Pen Slim also makes it more similar to a regular pencil/pen feel. I could understand how some would prefer heftier pen, but having option is great. :)
I’m reeeaaaalllly debating wether to get xp pen Artist pro 16 or to get the huion kamvas pro 16 -___- I think I’m leaning more towards xp pen but I’ll keep doing more research before I decide
@@bigsmile9173 i went with the artist pro 16! Thought I honestly just wish I went with a normal tablet in the end lmao The pen display’s good! The only thing is that the pen is just slightly off from the cursor on the screen, but it’s barely noticeable. And the screen doesn’t get too bright, so it can be hard to look at when my surrounding is bright. Then my brother got a Samsung tablet about 6 months ago and I actually really like drawing on it 😭 even though I only used a free sketching app. So maybe sometime in the future I’ll switch when I have the money!
At some point I just want uncompromised performance for the tool I make a living with, so I’ll stick with wacom, but im starting to recommend huion/xp pen to hobbyists or beginners if they want to try a different brand
XP pen also has a remote as well. I noticed you mentioned Huion and Wacom but not XP pen. A few hundred dollar is like 500 to almost 600 dollars more is quite a bit more.
one reason why i think they removed the short cut keys on the wacom display tablets (that would personally affect me as a lefty) could be that the tablet has a stand and only is usable on one side unlike the intuos for example where you can simply flip the tablet over and have the keys on the righthand side. So if it came with the keys i couldnt even use them and would have my palm accidently pressing all the buttons... And as theres every 1/10 people lefthanded you are losing 10% customers that way who cant use your product
That's a good point. On a lot of these tablets you technically can flip them over and rotate the screen but often times the cords are then sticking out the bottom making it impossible to use on most stands.

I've thought about getting the Cintiq Pro 24 with touch, but man that price tag is rough. You say that touch on the Cintiq Pro 16 is good, but how good are we talking? iPad good? 😉

Of the budget friendly options, which would you say has the best initial activation force? I draw with a very light hand, so for me the big dealbreaker I've had with many tablets has been high initial activation force. I got a Huion tablet a few years ago, and everything about it was fine EXCEPT for the activation force. Strokes would start just a little bit late, and, most frustratingly, taps on UI buttons wouldn't register if I didn't put in a conscious effort to press hard enough. I had to switch it out for a cintiq, but now that's been showing it's age, so I'm looking for a solid 16-inch.

'I'm unsure why these companies are getting rid of express keys on their tablets'
'you can always buy the shortcut remote separately if you want'
I think we might have found the reason boys pack it up.
I got the wacom cintiq 16 and it is the best purchase ever!!
The Wacom really shines here as Ver 2.0++
Over time the options have evolved a bit
* Wacom 16 Pro 2021 can now be bought new on Ebay for ~ $800-$900 from time to time.

I have learned a lot from your videos.
a small no screen tablet or pen for a tablet or phone that supports pen pressure and a free drawing program like krita or medibang
He's made such a video. It leads on to his online courses. But you may have found it as this request is over a year old.
I've been using my s6 lite thinking about get the s9 ultra or a Wacom tablet I can't decide ahh
YES! The ultimate showdown! 🙌🏻
knowing the pens have wobble when drawing the lines "without the stabilization/smoothing" is cool and all.
Finally a new brad colbow video! I clicked as soon as I could
yes brad making my monday a bit better
I think this was one of your best videos ever. Even 1 year later.
Layout is easier to remember, and then I can bring the same exact shortcut device to every single computer I do art on and have it the same.
wait, where can i get one of these?
Great content! Got all my questions covered
@@deuswulf6193 it's been going on for years and I just checked it still doesn't work for me both on this pc and my old one
I know I always ask this... but... what about the screen itself? Do they have smooth glass, etched glass, plastic screen protectors (that will eventually become full of little scratches and ruin the sharpness and color perception)?
yes on the one i have
Etched glass on Wacom and Huion, replacable matte screen protector on XP-Pen
But it's not really different in practice
I got the normal 16 inch wacom and I neither notice the difference between 4k nor do I miss it. Imo it's a far more desirable resolution at larger sizes (20"+) where individual pixels on lower res screens are far more noticable. I genuinely cannot see the pixels in the 1080p version.
I've been watching graphic tablets reviews for 2 days and bam, wild video appears hahaha, nice timing 🤣
i just upgraded from a 2015 intuos small to a cintiq 16. a bit more expensive than the alternatives, but I love wacom's quality and reliability
Wacom brands are not perfect! They have their issues as well.
@@Artist1974CH Even more proof lol
I just bought Cintiq pro 16 (gen 1) few hours before this video being released xD I also didn't realize gen 2 got realeased.
I’m reeeaaaalllly debating wether to get xp pen Artist pro 16 or to get the huion kamvas pro 16 -___-
I think I’m leaning more towards xp pen but I’ll keep doing more research before I decide
A bit late to the party but I'm curious to which one you went with in the end?
@@bigsmile9173 i went with the artist pro 16! Thought I honestly just wish I went with a normal tablet in the end lmao
The pen display’s good!
Thank you this is all I need to know.
As always a great video!
one reason why i think they removed the short cut keys on the wacom display tablets (that would personally affect me as a lefty) could be that the tablet has a stand and only is usable on one side unlike the intuos for example where you can simply flip the tablet over and have the keys on the righthand side.
Huion has the best color display overall.
really like your content even do roughly 12% is relevant to me I really need any form of drawing tablet but I'm stuck with my low end android using ibis paint x and infinite painter its hard but I keep getting better which is good you helped a lot so thanks I hope to get a drawing tab or just a tab to finish some art projects this summer like this webtoon I developing the process slow but if I manage to finish chapter one I will send it to you
Buy used drawing tablets. You'll save a lot of money and still get a good tablet. It's what I did, bought a used huion kamvas pro16 for nearly 50% of the price for a new one.
It was barely used and had no scratches

Thanks Brad for the review! I have the XP-Pen Artist 24, and I find that it's biggest drawback is the drivers. Im on an M1 Mac mini, and several times an hour the pen disconnects or draws a random straight line across the canvas (Photoshop). I've thought about getting the Cintiq Pro 24 with touch, but man that price tag is rough. You say that touch on the Cintiq Pro 16 is good, but how good are we talking? iPad good? 😉
no and it will never be that good. Most of the users if you watch reviews always turn touch off, be it intous or cintiq
Couple of comments later from Cintiq owners say not as good as iPad. More hit and miss than solid experience.
I had problems with my 24pro and things that helped were changing OS (Mac) and using usb c rather than the several cables option. just in case that helps.
@@EdaliaDayCreative hi mean if using USBC the connection will be good ? Coz I looking for XP Pen display drawing tablet. But it seem quite alot issue for driver support for Mac M1 user
From what I’ve read all of the tablets have driver issues whether wacom xp pen and huion, though maybe less for wacom. I recently bought the xp pen 16 2nd gen for travelling and the driver didn’t work well for my M1 mac studio but the custumer support were next level. It took a while but they troubleshooted my problems and ended up making me a patched driver specifically to sort my problems out and now both of my tablets work fantastically
I love your art style
I started having problems with my XP pen 15.6 inch tablet so I'll probably be looking for some other options cause I love the size but it's just having weird issues and the size that was below it wasn't having as many issues as this one which is weird
Bad experience as well brad cowbell recommended but it was just bad
Do some painting web apps reviews, particularly would be nice to see Light Brush. It's a quite recent one, and has nice features.
This was so useful thank you!
I been using a Huion Kamvas 16 and upgrading
To be honest, should I upgrade to the Kamvas 16 pros?
Or just try a Wacom Cintiq 16 pro
Express keys are on both sides! Yay! So I am happy as a left handed artist!!!!!
Why did you choose the 4k version and tp version of xp and huion is that a fair comparison, why not just take the ones that only has pro in the name I wanna se those comparison to the wacom cintiq 16 pro. Maby you should change your titel its a bit missleading. But Great that you keep doping reviews its awesome!
My cintiq had had so many issues over the years, now it has a faulty main board, tempted to switch to Huion
I forgot I typed this, and now that my cintiq has died ($4000 gone) I think it's time I buy the Huion 😂 it's fate that I found this video and my old comment
I had to switch it out for a cintiq, but now that's been showing it's age, so I'm looking for a solid 16-inch.
you can adjust the pressure sensitivitiness in the driver. that helped with my huion rtm 500
My guy buys a cintiq but doesn't know pressure is adjustable through software. Imagine being this privileged.
Also, yes Im aware in replying to an year old comment. I don't care.
@@bereal8253 Yes you can change the force curve in Huion software, but the minimum activation force is not adjustable through software. It's a hardware limitation.
I was considering the xp pen innovator, will research into the artist 16 and huion camvas
Oh wow, seeing how much cheaper the Kamvas is, while having hotkey buttons, AND being pretty close on the colors, I think I know my next tablet to replace my old Gaumon pd1560. Thanks much ^^
I secretly wished for this earlier today. And well here it is by magic what.
So I had a quinceañera recently and got a lot of money, so I’m deciding to upgrade to a screen tablet! But I’ve been super torn about wether to get the xp pen artist pro 16 or to get the xp pen artist 22 2nd gen. I was leaning a bit more towards the xp pen 22 but now I think I might get the 16 instead.
This is just because I’m only 15, so I don’t think I need the huge screen anytime soon since I’m not a professional lol. And although I never used buttons on my screen less drawing tablet, idk if it will be the same for one with a screen. And if I do stick with my plan rn to go to college for visual illustration and I find that I need a better tablet, I’ll do another upgrade when that time comes.
Also, I can always return the artist pro 16 if I don’t like it ʅ(•~•)ʃ
I want that Cintiq 16!!!!!!!!!!! Or the Artist 12.
Ugh where the hell is xencelab with there pen display? I’ve been holding off on getting a Cintiq 22 for a year and a half to see what they bring but still no sign of it coming soon 😩
Also Brad do you think the Cintiq 22 will go on sale for a good price on Prime day tomorrow?
Aren’t they about as expensive as wacom anyway?
@@ragecandy I think they’re a little less expensive than Wacom but they offer the same quality for a better price. Their intros tablet equivalent comes with 2 stylus pens (the other being a slim version) and a hot key remote and that bundle is the same price for a medium intuos pro that comes with just the tablet.
So I’m really curious to see how they go about making a pen display I just hope it’s a 22 inch or bigger.
I just want a good tablet that will last me a long time, I had my cintiq for 7 years and I originally bought it secondhand.
anytime I move the tablet the screen cuts out, I've had this issue since I bought it but it's not been as bad as it has been recently. Do wacom products still do this? If so I'd rather buy from xp pen or huion

Brad! Which contributes to line wobble more? The pen or the screen?
The screen is where the pen gets registered. The pen itself doesn't have any influence on it other than maybe the nib.
