Best non Nintendo portable for sure. Does it beat the Gameboy or GBA? No way, those were revolutionary during their time. NDS was better imo, maybe the 3DS as it was just an upgraded NDS.
+Wade Schipprack I'm pretty sure no one you've commented on has said its better than Nintendo just their favorite also psp does better at recreating console games mobile then a shirt did and gameboy
+kraftwerk pop-muzik I love gamble played it all the time but I was just saying that the pop does a better job of bringing console quality gaming on the go

Field Commander is one of my favorites! Still have it, and bought it to play on my Vita as well. Really good game. Also used to play a lot of Midnight Club 3.
Hey Metal, love the video. But do you think next time you could show us the front and BACK of each game? That would be awesome man! Anyways, thanks for the vids man!
Gladiator Begins was an awesome hack-n-slash fighting game (but don't let that scare you away, its not really based on combos, but timing) based in Roman Lore, there are RPG elements, such as leveling up, getting new equipment and such. You play as a Gladiator trying to win his freedom, gaining the favor of several patrons and working your way up the ranks. There's a training mode that lets you try out new moves and such against the Doctore. There are tons of unlockable costumes, unlockable difficulties and game modes. The combat system is also very good, you have to knock off pieces of your opponents armor and then aim for their weak points. Its an awesome game that every PSP owner should have in their collection. If this wasn't enough to convince you (I hope it was, this game is great), then look at some gameplay of it and decide for yourself. Either way, have a great day!
I liked the way it was presented, different shots, picking some games up, panning over several games etc, for each different genre. Only thing I'd like to have seen was the back of the case for every game you talked about for more than 5 seconds.
"Lord of Arcana" is an AMAZING action RPG. They made a sequel for it in japan, and fans have begun translating it, its almost complete! When you compare the Vita library to this beast of a portables library, you realise how disappointing the Vita is. The PSP is my fave portable and even favourite system of all time!
It was a different time though too you have to remember, this was before everyone had games on their phones and handhelds were to go-to for mobile gaming. Now that everyone has a smartphone, real handheld gaming is struggling more than it did back in the DS-PSP era.
+Axsen _ I understand your point but that doesnt explain why the 3ds destroyed the vita in terms of sales and games library. The 3ds started off poor and now i think you can agree its considered a success regardless of smart phone gaming. Personaly i really dont understand the appeal of smart phone gaming except the convenience factor of always having it with you. Plus i prefer real tactile controls rather than tapping a screen.
Mortal Porcupine Oh yeah I'm not arguing with you that the Vita is better than the 3DS, a lot of that has to do with the 3DS basically being Nintendo's main console right now seeing as it's outsold the WiiU tremendously. In fact I'm pretty sure the Vita has outsold the WiiU, lol. Sony and Nintendo are basically on opposite fronts. Sony is investing heavily into their console and is on top in their field, while Nintendo is investing heavily into their handheld and is doing the best there. So many good releases frequently on the 3DS while the WiiU is constantly starved the same way the Vita is.
I love the Sony PSP. Ape Escape, Ridge Racer and so many more wonderful classic games. Also the PSP was more than just a gaming console It was a perfect music player for downloading music and having fun. Cool video. ^_^
Thank you so much Metal Jesus! You got me into psp collecting and your game picks have been great and on point. I'm not usually into portable systems, but I have been having a great time with the psp. Thank you again and you rock!
The PSP/PS Vita is such a beautiful handheld console! Even though it's older, I still say it's nicer than any other handheld out there. Can you please do a PSP & PS Vita Console focused video? Where you just showcase your consoles, talk about where you got them from, etc? There's a lot of video game room tours on YT, but not everyone is able to keep the audience engaged like your videos do. Your psp systems are really nice. Searched youtube for other PSP console collections but there's nothing good. I briefly saw yours during your 2022 video game room tour and wanted more! Lol. Thanks
In my opinion, Fantasy Golf Pangya is one of the most criminally underrated games on any system. I've played it four countless hours on my PSP, and now I'm doin' the same on my modded PSVita. The PC version is more online-oriented, but this portable version is loaded with modes, challenges, options, items... and the characters are much more charismatic and interesting than those boring avatars from Hot Shots Golf. It's also one of those rare arcade golf games that (thank God) put aside any pretense of realism and have fun with their fantasy setting (so you get windmill vanes as obstacles that rotate faster when the wind is strong, special shots that can travel extremely low and high to get to impossible places - sometimes with the chance of an Albatross - and so on).
TopDoge I honestly prefer it mostly for the PS2 remasters, PS3 and PS4 remote play, PS1 games, and the PSP backwards compatibility. I love my Vita and I play it everyday. I'd like to get a PSP someday though.
+DoomDash I agree. The vita suffered from wiiu syndrome. Great piece of equipment and capable of so much but unable to get the games because of bs excuses from developers.
really grateful that you go over the standouts, really helps find out which games to go after (aside from the obvious every other list mentions) THANKS!
Awesome collection. I have a little over 100 psp games myself. I'm a big handheld fan, and owning plenty of handhelds ranging from the gba to the ps vita, the psp still remains my favourite handheld because of its game library. It's like having a small ps2 in your hands! The only thing that bugs me with the psp is the unfortunate umd format though. I've had a lot of umd cases that got cracked, where the two ends of it became detached or the middle plastic part became loose, just a pain tbh... Also I like to keep my hanheld systems + games in a dedicated carrying bag, and umd is not a good fit for that at all. So I kind of wished Sony would have used cards from the start, as they did with the vita. I was filled with joy when they announced the vita would use cards, but many years later the system's dying a slow death, and its game library isn't nearly as impressive as the psp library was! Side note: I couldn't pick a favourite out of all the games psp has to offer, but as far as exclusive ones, I was really impressed with locoroco! Other honorable mentions are silent hill origins (the game that turned me into a big time SH fan and made me hunt ebay for SH2 - 4), GTA VC stories (vice city looked soooo good, the colors of the sunset looked more impressive than GTA VC on ipad imo). If I had to pick a favourite out of the game series you mentioned: -for socom, it would be Fireteam Bravo 3, although I really liked tactical strike as well! -for the Tomb Raider games: anniversary all the way! It has better camera controls (using L/R buttons) and runs way waaay smoother, plus has the added bonus features of developer commentary! -for the need for speed games I'd pick carbon (didn't see that one in your collection I think), but definitely one I prefer over the console version -for the mx vs atv games, I think you're right on the money with on the edge! Also check out MTX Mototrax from activision, a solid motocross game akin to the THPS games from back in the day! Cheers!
One of my childhood games man, I still remember getting creeped out by Tower Tooth. Seriously that thing scared the shit out of me when it popped up behind me
@@Scanvas3 yea, and at the second phase you had to grab a bunch on missiles that home in on their target, and then fire those missiles at tower tooth, then repeat this process until tower tooth is dead
The first wild arms on PS1 is an amazing game.. I rented it from the video store and liked it so much I "lost" it and paid them 42$ for it. :D ... I "found" it later and now I own it.
I had a psp 1000 as a kid. Got daxter, wipeout, and death jr. I LOVED those games. But of course the system and all of my games got lost over the years. I’m finally buying one tomorrow and I can’t wait to start collecting for it
Great video! I recently started collecting for the PSP. I seem to find PSP games everywhere in my area. Nows the time to get in while the games are cheap.
I'm doing the same, just got a psp the other day with a few games free, hopped onto my local buy and sell app and have 35 games coming in the post for 25€ glad I chose a good time to start collecting
Thanks for the video. About 6 years ago I won an online community event from Codemasters an a copy of DiRT 2 for PSP was a part of the prize. I can only now finally play it as I picked myself up a Limited Edition Gran Turismo PSP which was complete (sadly without the original retail packaging) but the seller had Need for Speed Shift and Gran Turismo Collector's Edition with an unused DLC code. Picked up a new battery, play'n'charge cable and component AV out cable so I can capture some gameplay. Thus begins my PSP collection.
Here is the thing about PSP Physical games. The UMDs are prone to scratch relatively easy thus games will not work most of the times. Some games tried to rectify this problem by installing the game data on the memory stick. While a lot of PSP games doesn't have this option to my knowledge.
+ち匚丹尺ㄚ 爪口れち匕モ尺 back in 2007 I bought GTA LC Stories new. It didn't take long before the game got scratched from the PSP lens. I've heard weird noises came from the system. After that I took the game out to find that a deep ring like scratches. The same has happened to the bundled game that came with my PSP 1004. After that I never bought a physical PSP game.
maybe you're just clumsy? XD hahaha , because my umds are fine so far, if there's something wrong with it, i save/clean it with a lens cleaning product, i actually saved one umd with that, the thing was so dirty when i bought it, that it was sad
if you're not a dumb child like ralph from the simpsons, who carelessly handles stuff like umds, cds, dvds etc you shouldn't get a scratch on either one.

Damn! I thought I was doing good with my 78 games. Time to ramp it up! :)
PSP is my 2nd favorite system of all time. If it had a 2nd analog stick it would hold up even better.
*Cough cough* PS Vita
+Coleman Straight PSVita was kinda a letdown after psp
TopDoge I honestly prefer it mostly for the PS2 remasters, PS3 and PS4 remote play, PS1 games, and the PSP backwards compatibility. I love my Vita and I play it everyday. I'd like to get a PSP someday though.
I have a Vita, it's a good piece of hardware but it just didn't have the games that PSP had.
And now I have to bust out my PSP for nostalgia. lol
If I had to pick a favourite out of the game series you mentioned:
-for socom, it would be Fireteam Bravo 3, although I really liked tactical strike as well!
-for the Tomb Raider games: anniversary all the way! It has better camera controls (using L/R buttons) and runs way waaay smoother, plus has the added bonus features of developer commentary!
-for the need for speed games I'd pick carbon (didn't see that one in your collection I think), but definitely one I prefer over the console version
-for the mx vs atv games, I think you're right on the money with on the edge! Also check out MTX Mototrax from activision, a solid motocross game akin to the THPS games from back in the day!
Cheers!
Yeah you picked dead or alive bolley ball because it looks "silly" ;) sure....................XD
Let's be honest: #BoobPhysics
The older you set your age the more they bounce
Disgaea is one of my favorite games of all time. Love the vid, MetalJesusRocks! Keep up the good work!
PSP! I wish i could develop a game for it! :D
Love the Opeth shirt man, my favourite band
It would be awesome if the next Retron would play PSP UMDs
THIS!!
I liked this video a lot def one of my favs hope you do more like this..
The one I love most that was first started on psp was twisted metal head on
One of my childhood games man, I still remember getting creeped out by Tower Tooth. Seriously that thing scared the shit out of me when it popped up behind me
@@Scanvas3 yea, and at the second phase you had to grab a bunch on missiles that home in on their target, and then fire those missiles at tower tooth, then repeat this process until tower tooth is dead
@@amadeustd3418 Yep, I mean, his weak spot is hard to hit if you don't have anything that is homing. Creepy and hard af
@@Scanvas3 yes indeed
Twisted metal was fun and the psp it was even better
awesome collection! you rock!
I’m finally buying one tomorrow and I can’t wait to start collecting for it
"These are the kind of games I usually play..." *shows Dead or Alive Paradise*
Great video! I recently started collecting for the PSP. I seem to find PSP games everywhere in my area. Nows the time to get in while the games are cheap.
metal Jesus I have over 2000 games 1000 my dad gave me when he was small he had a lot of games and 1000 from when I connected
Kudos for Metal Jesus referencing genres such as RPG without region acronym abbreviations.
Damn man you forgot Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky!
If I'm right, he had previously said that doesn't own that game.
Nice collection . I've got about 35 - 40 psp games 1/2 loose , picked most of them up for a $1 or $2 when they go on sale at a local game store . 🤗
I'm doing the same, just got a psp the other day with a few games free, hopped onto my local buy and sell app and have 35 games coming in the post for 25€ glad I chose a good time to start collecting
I am late but get capcom collection remixed
By prone to scratch I mean mostly when the game is played. Any sudden movement and your UMD will get the ever so amazing white ring of scratches.
+Abdullah Al-qurashi I have never had that problem with my UMD games...
XD hahaha
, because my umds are fine so far, if there's something wrong with it, i save/clean it with a lens cleaning product, i actually saved one umd with that, the thing was so dirty when i bought it, that it was sad
if you're not a dumb child like ralph from the simpsons, who carelessly handles stuff like umds, cds, dvds etc you shouldn't get a scratch on either one.
Love this channel. Much different than just plays and I honestly like it more
Is anybody's psp like kinda loud? I bought one used and have never owned one. Just curious.
Kai Burke i bought one for the first time. PSP2000 and when i play like lets say "The Con" it makes loud screech sounds like a rat or something idk.
Its the UMD drive thats loud as fuck
Just snagged 5 games off eBay. Can’t wait to go crazy on my psp. Haven’t played it in a couple years.
