@@mandibiedermann2246 A few of the games you mentioned are especially obscure in North America because they were never released here (which is very ironic when it comes to Michigan Report From Hell).
Pretty much every game released on the PS2 in the west was definitely not in the hidden gems category.. PS2 was just too mainstream for that terminology.
Maybe not a hidden gem, just a not-as-talked about game. I personally think it has a more interesting story than the movie it's based on. One of the most entertaining beat-em-ups I've ever played.
Mission Impossible: Operation Surma is, I believe, a hidden gem on the console especially if you enjoy 3rd person espionage games. It’s a game that is most often easy to find and cheap.
A refreshing way to look at the PS2 library again. Thanks for putting in all the work for this! You’ve inspired me to build a collection for many consoles and handheld systems
This is why I loved the PS2 era, so many games to choose from, so many "middle shelf" games that are truly amazing. The new gens are all AAA games which is a shame.
I was born in 2002 and got my PS2 handed down to me in 2008. I think the fact that I was able to grow up with the PS2 in the era of 360 and PS3 speaks volumes of how awesome this console is.
That’s a nice PS2 collection my good sir! You are truly an asset to the gaming community! Thank you for doing these videos and letting your fellow gamers know about these awesome games! Rock on MJR! 🤟🏻
The PS2 is probably my favorite console due to its sheer variety. I haven't bought any games recently for it, but the last ones I got were Shadow Hearts 2/3 and Wild Arms 5/Alter Code F. I was fortunate to get a complete copy of Kuon for about 34 dollars right before it started to really jump in price, I also have a complete copy of Rule of Rose and Haunting Ground (but it's missing the booklet).
@@sharebear421 I believe one was about 70 and the other one was 65. Wild arms 5 was missing the case (it came with the bonus art book and the outer box). Alter Code F was missing the bonus dvd. This was back in January of 2020.
Need help, my ps2 will tell me that that there is no memory card in it. I bought another card thinking my original was damaged. Same thing. Help! Please. What can I do?
The PS2 is definitely one of my favorite consoles of all time, mainly due to its huge RPG library. MJR, I notice that you have Unlimited SaGa, but not Romancing SaGa. Plus, I recommend the Ar tonelico games as well as the PS2 Atelier games (including the Atelier Iris trilogy and the Mana Khemia duology).
I really loved finally fantasy 10, in fact I just started playing the hd remaster and 3 or so hours into it I am still loving it. The water graphics at that time really blew my mind.
If you dedicated your life to collecting video games, you’d have a huge collection too. I’ve known people like this… they spend a LOT of time looking for games. It’s not some casual thing. I would honestly guess that Jason spend, on average, 10-20 hours a week looking for games. Maybe not anymore considering how many he has at this point but at one time, he was hunting. You have to if you are trying to not use eBay or something. I should state I’m not judging. People should do what makes them happy. Personally, I’ve never loved the hunt like some people. I also don’t like to own games that I’ll never play (and I don’t count popping a game into my system to grab footage for 5 minutes “playing a game”). I treat video games like I do clothes. If I haven’t used it in at least 12 months, I ether ned to sell, donate, or deem it a significant item for it to take up space in my home. Then again, I try to be a minimalist when possible.
Some excellent picks here! I could have missed it here, but Mark Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure is one of my favourites on the PS2. The gameplay is super fun and the graffiti elements are pretty unique.
Duuuude. This was one hardcore trip down memory lane. I had almost every US released RPG on the system and have fond memories of many of them. Thanks for this!
One of my favorite PS2 games is Stuntman, from the creators of the Driver franchise. It's a really fun and challenging game where you do all kind of vehicle stunts for shows and movies.
Yes I remember this one it was very very fun I remember there was one in the 360 called stuntman ignition but I found the ps2 stuntman was very good very good memories
So glad I started collecting PS1 & 2 games over 10 years ago. I love the systems but a huge part of why I started collecting them was that there were plenty of great games for $10 or less, sometimes just a buck or 2 complete in case with cover art and manual. The PS2 gives you access to hundred of great games including tons of ps1 games. So many great RPGS, fighters, sh'mups, arcade collections and just plain weird games.
Extermination is such a great game, I’m glad to see it on here. I always tell people about it and pretty much nobody knows what the hell I’m talking about 😂
I don’t know how much time you have but I don’t think I’d be alone in saying I’d sit and listen/watch you talk about every single PS2 gave you have. No crazy post production, kind of like a sit and chill and talk sort of thing. Maybe an idea for MJR Extras?
I remember the first video I ever watched of you was top 10 ps2 games , it was around 7 years ago And from that I got motivated to collect video games - this channel is a home for collectors! 💥❤️
Man you have to buy I-Ninja and Peter Jackson's King Kong. Two of my favorite games for the PS2. The first one looks like Ratchet and Clank but more brutal kinda and the second one speaks for itself. You ll get scared by dinosaurs for sure in this game. Also, Turok Evolution should be a good addition to your collection.
Bought the sequel on ebay a while ago and ended up having both games complete in case black label. Currently started a new character and plan on taking them all the way through both games.
The ps2 will forever remain my favorite console. I have a lot of very fond memories playing Ps2 and I still believe that this was the best era of gaming. If I’m being at all honest I miss it and I struggle to play games today because I simply do not like online games like cod Warzone. Modern games are becoming less and less enjoyable to me.
It’s interesting how many people claim the PS2 to be their favorite console. Maybe I just didn’t branch out enough when I had the system but when mine broke, I didn’t even bother to buy a replacement system. I just sold my collection off. To be fair, my collection was mainly the obvious titles (think GTA, DMC, and a few odd balls). It’s one of those systems where the popular games have been out done for the most part but the deep cuts/hidden gems are hard to replace. That’s why i wouldn’t mind spinning up an emulator for the system one of these days as I have no interest in getting the original hardware to work on my modern TV (PS2 is notorious for it’s poor video output).
Get you another one and start getting some games back! 3 years ago I got an extreme desire to start playing the PS2 again, being born in 1995, it was basically my entire childhood. I bought a brand new, unopened factory sealed PS2 in 2020 for $450. So worth the price for a brand new one. I now have 18 games in my collection from my childhood, plus a couple I never played and man, its amazing. I literally play it all the time, more than my PC. Currently playing through Manhunt for the first time. My buddies have PS2s also and a couple times a year we get toether in my living room and all play together like old times.
RE FFX: I've often heard it said that FFX is one of the highlights in terms of the storytelling and a lot of people's favorites!! My personal favorite is FFXII though. I love the world and the aesthetic on that one 🥰
Tanks for anorher great video. Agree with you on SSX 3, one of my absolute favorites. Another favorite from the PS2 era is the first Splashdown game, seams to be missing in your video 😉
This vid makes me realise just HOW many PS2 games I played as a kid! Metal Arms, Dr. Muto, Freaky Flyers, Psi-Ops, Second Sight, Shinobi, the list goes ON! Great video!
An impressive collection to say the least . I still have a silver PS2 slim and I kept about 25 games for mine . God of War , SOCOM NAVY SEALS , and SSX TRICKY are my top 3🕹🎮👍
Heck I'll never make it to ps5 if there are still so many wonderful titles to play on ps2.Nice collection, Splashdown is so similar to Wawerace 64 but even more crazy, i love it.
The Yakuza games got their start on Ps2 and is probably what Streets of Rage would or should have been if it didn't loose its footing like it did. Amazing stories, great atmosphere and plays really nicely. Of course, today you would probably go for the Kiwami editions on whatever modern platform you like but the originals are special, and that isn't nostalgia talking. I discovered these games like 2015.
Thank you so much for creating these videos. It has been a pleasure watching your content for so many years! You always have a way of renewing my love of retro video games and inspiring me to collect and discover new games along the way!
I would love to have this console back. This console was and still is a beast. Plus, it's impossible to run out of games to play. A vast amount.. It dominated the video game market for so many years. To this day, no other console has surpassed it in sales.
I loved playing Persona 4 on the ps2 so much. Playing Primal, Mister Mosquito, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4, Sly Cooper, Bloodrayne, and Godhand are some of my fondest memories!
Could not of said it better than you did in the intro the the video, the PS2 is certainly one of my favorite consoles I have own over my lifetime, and has so many great games, no matter what genre of games you are into. This was just an amazing video, yet in it's awesomeness, pales in comparison to the collection you have amassed. Love all the content man, keep up all hard work.
Man me and my dad played the hell out of Champions of Norrath!!! Such a great game! So much fun. I remember being so excited when the sequel came out! I miss him so much
Psychonauts, Def Jam: Fight For NY, Ejay Clubworld, and Freekstyle are a few great "hidden gems" that are definitely worth picking up. You have a great collection and I have quite a few of the same ones, but will be looking for many of those titles now. I would also say that the PS2 is still my favorite console.
MJR, great list. What you said about the PS2 generation taking risks is correct. I think the gen after expanded this also (PS3/X360) but it's somewhat plateaued with PS4 onward.
My first console was an N64 but it wasn't until the PS2 that I could completely understand video games. So many memories on my PS2 and by far brings me the most nostalgia
Honestly by now the PS2 is so cheap and soft-moddable that I believe it's the best "retro console" option available over any raspberry pi project or official mini console out there. Between ps1 and 2 official releases (including all those amazing retro compilations) and emulators, any retro gamer on a budget can get access to pretty much all arcade and console games up to the early 00s for less than $50, with component output, on one of the best controllers ever made!
The ps2 is my all time favorite console. I’ve got a similar sized collection myself. My all time favorite ps2 game is Test Drive: Eve of Destruction. Such a fun racing game! I’d consider it a hidden gem for sure
One game I feel was missing from your most expensive list would be Steambot Chronicles; fantastic open world, steampunk (If the title didn't give that away), mech game. As of typing this comment the game is worth $164.04. I still go back to play it every now and again.
From what I've seen, FFX is well-liked and not near as divisive as VIII and XII. My personal opinion is that it's a great classic-style JRPG with excellent dungeons, bosses, and side content (Blitzball almost qualifies as its own game).
That's awesome how it helped get you into RPG's. Being an early PS2 game, I imagine that's the case with a lot of people. Even though I first played FFX on the Vita, I've seen a lot of gameplay for the original and it is a beautiful piece of art. What they accomplished in 2001 on a device less powerful than a GameCube is incredible. So yeah, I can see why FFX is your favorite game ever. It deserves the praise.
Great selection of games you picked out there. So many racers to choose from, my favourite being Outrun Coast 2 Coast with those glorious colours and classic arcade gameplay. For FPS games have you tried Darkwatch? I picked it up recently and was very impressed. Thanks for your videos.
I'm 38 and my first game console was the nintendo family computer that's the NES for you in the US, but the PS2 is my favorite console ever! This video brings back great memories! Thanks Jason.
This was an excellent look at a wonderful generation of gaming - so many great titles! I love the variety but moreover love how many times you mentioned playing many of them with Paul 🤟
PS2 had the best selection of high quality creative games. I don't think it will ever be matched. Anyone is pretty much set for life if they have a PlayStation 2 and most of or all the games for it.
Sucks that silent hill 3 is so expensive. I remember seeing it all around my local blockbuster when I was a kid. That series was popular when I was a kid, I figured it would be common. I'd really like to play it :/
Same, no idea what MJR is talking about saying it's not considered one of the better ones, the game has been re-released continuously for the last 20 years because of how loved it is...
Yeah I don't know what the hell he's talking about. FFX is sitting at a 90 total critic score and a 92 total audience score on Metacritic. I have personally never heard a bad word about FFX. Now, FFX-2 on the other hand...
My hidden gems (unreleased in the U.S.): Buccaneer Crusty Demons Polaroid Pete Taxi Rider (Untenshu wa Kimi da) *Flight combat sims:* Aces of War / Energy Airforce / Energy Airforce: aimStrike! / Iron Aces 2: Birds of Prey / Iron Eagle Max
From Software's Armored Core series has 7 entries on the PS2, and many of these are still very affordable. I paid around $5 for most of these a few years ago, but did shell out around $50 to complete my AC PS2 collection with Armored Core: Ninebreaker.
Can we take a moment to respect that my dude took out all of his Playstation games to talk about them? Massive effort - I can barely bend over to pick up the nachos on the floor from last night's gaming session
Holy cow, I forgot about the Evil Dead game. I played HOURS on that game as a kid. Havent thought about it in years, man you just took me on a trip. FYI I still play the PS2 literally all the time, besides a gaming PC, its the only console I have. I have over 70 games and still probably buy 2-3 new games a year for it. The best console of all times, a time period when we had just enough technology. We have too much now IMO.
God Hand is one of my favorite games of all time, and my most played game on PS2 by a mile. There's no other game like this in the history of games, it's just so unique.
Silent Hill 3 is not a hidden gem! it's one of KONAMI's hits do you forgot Silent Hill HD collection? I know it's terrible version, but it was with Silent Hill 2 not SH4 or SH origins it was SH3 I don't know why everyone prefer SH2 maybe because it was a huge renaissance in that time.
Just picked up my third PS2 the other day. Some guy was selling it with two controllers and 5 PS magazine demo disc for $30. Greatest system of all time. I hope you have all the silent hill games for it. There was 5 games released on the PS2

It's insane how well some ps2 games hold up today. I've been playing Gran Turismo 4 and it's my first racing sim. Every time I turn it on it blows my mind that I'm playing a ps2 game.
I'm fairly confident that I have over 5 thousand hours in Gran Turismo 3 + 4. Me and my brother used to do all the endurance races and take turns while on holiday, the PS2 was our saving grace from an otherwise incredibly boring month of pretending to enjoy beach-going. We were only allowed to pack 5 games and GT3 and 4 were always there, for several years. Plus how could you ever not praise a console that had two of the best games ever made, literally, in Snake Eater and RE4. Great video! My collection is nowhere near as impressive but I'll get there.
I absolutely love that you had a mention of the getaway series, back when i was younger i wasnt allowed to play the gta titles due to the media saying how violent and brutal they can be but somehow i managed to have these to enjoy. great story and i loved how you played different story lines leading up to certain endings.
I'm typing this 5 minutes into the video. I have an obscure game I used to love on the ps2, Ring Of Red. A turn based tactic game mech kind of like Front Mission but the actual battles would shift into real time. That game would have me shouting with frustration and joy when I won, great memories of that game.

I didn't get the true experience from the game because of one stinking cable (my fault).
I will tell you some obscure PS2 games exm: Without Warning, Stolen, Brocken Sword, Headhunter, Peter Jackson King Kong, RTX Red Rock, Enthusia, Rumble Roses, Alone in the Dark, Obscure 1&2, Siren and Forbbiden Siren, Gregory Horror Show, Ghost Rider, Van Helsing, Fahrenheit, Michigan Report from Hell, Shadow of Rome, Shellshock NAM 67, Urban Chaos, Rise to Honor, Warhammer 400000, Made Man, Sword of Etheria, Comandos Strike Force, Rogue OPS, Red Ninja
@@mandibiedermann2246 A few of the games you mentioned are especially obscure in North America because they were never released here (which is very ironic when it comes to Michigan Report From Hell).
Downhill domination is the single most underrated game I’ve ever played. I’m glad you showed it at the end. Game legitimately deserves a remake.
I don't know if this would be considered a "hidden gem", the THE WARRIORS is a pretty fun game as well, especially because of the movie licence.
That was a sleeper I agree. Just love beating up gangs in their own territory hahaha good times!
Yep , awesome game , 2005 , one of the best ps2 games !!
Bro the physical copy is so hard to find on ps2 thank god I have it
Mission Impossible: Operation Surma is, I believe, a hidden gem on the console especially if you enjoy 3rd person espionage games. It’s a game that is most often easy to find and cheap.
Thanks for the tip. Taking your advice. Just picked it up.
I agree with you on SSX 3. Definitely a top ps2 game for me, pure fun and enjoyment.
SSX3 was still one of the more expensive games to buy, even when used! At least at my GameStop.
I’ll admit it’s amazing!!! I was always a Tricky fan because my boy Eddie but SSX3 was lit
...hidden gems...yup 😂
Yeah I have all 5 ssx games
I was born in 2002 and got my PS2 handed down to me in 2008. I think the fact that I was able to grow up with the PS2 in the era of 360 and PS3 speaks volumes of how awesome this console is.
what games did u play on the ps2
@@3kawispretty much what was released onto the Wii during that time, but without the gimmicky motion controls and nunchuck combo
Too bad sonys a sack of shit company
I wanted to say thank you so much Metal for getting me into collecting for this console over eight years ago. Such great memories!
Thank you so much Metal?
@@dandiaz19934 Metal like Metal Jesus lol.
@@themajor8101 no one calls him that lmao
Whoa how much did you pay for the wild arms games?
@@sharebear421 I believe one was about 70 and the other one was 65. Wild arms 5 was missing the case (it came with the bonus art book and the outer box). Alter Code F was missing the bonus dvd. This was back in January of 2020.
Rule of rose is crazy expensive. Would love to play it. Don't want to spend a grand though. Hold onto it.
Need help, my ps2 will tell me that that there is no memory card in it. I bought another card thinking my original was damaged. Same thing. Help! Please. What can I do?
@@Straightjacket154 buy another PS2 or a backwards compatible PS3, problem solved
My PS2 collection has been growing recently...and now, so has my list grown bigger once again with these frickin' awesome recommendations...🤘🏼💯✔️
I really loved finally fantasy 10, in fact I just started playing the hd remaster and 3 or so hours into it I am still loving it. The water graphics at that time really blew my mind.
You're truly living the dream, man. Words cannot describe how envious I am seeing your collection.
Yes I remember this one it was very very fun I remember there was one in the 360 called stuntman ignition but I found the ps2 stuntman was very good very good memories
up the jetty in a tuk tuk. lol there were some hard parts for sure.
The thing I appreciate about metal Jesus is that he plays his games and is just not collecting for the sake of it... there's some real luv here!
I remember the first video I ever watched of you was top 10 ps2 games , it was around 7 years ago
And from that I got motivated to collect video games - this channel is a home for collectors!
Peter Jackson KG is a great game, and the graphics are pretty good
This has given me so many things to add to the list for when I start collecting. Very excited.
Champions of Norrath is so good. Wish I still had it in my collection, absolute greatness there!
Yeah! FFXII and FFX are both great
Tanks for anorher great video. Agree with you on SSX 3, one of my absolute favorites. Another favorite from the PS2 era is the first Splashdown game, seams to be missing in your video 😉
Timesplitters 2 was THE game we played in our online clean room at EA Tiburon. Amazing game!
To this day, no other console has surpassed it in sales.
just buy it again not that expensive
I loved playing Persona 4 on the ps2 so much. Playing Primal, Mister Mosquito, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4, Sly Cooper, Bloodrayne, and Godhand are some of my fondest memories!
FINALLY!!!! i've so been hoping for a ps2 collection video :D !
This one took a while to get all the footage today…and even then I could have did twice as much! 😂
This is wild man you’ve got one of the worlds greatest collections
I've have been waiting for this collection video from you, great collection!
I miss him so much
Sorry for your loss
Psychonauts, Def Jam: Fight For NY, Ejay Clubworld, and Freekstyle are a few great "hidden gems" that are definitely worth picking up. You have a great collection and I have quite a few of the same ones, but will be looking for many of those titles now. I would also say that the PS2 is still my favorite console.
MJR you are an absolute hidden gem. Thank you for all the great content!
Wild arms xf, 5, xenosaga 3 I’m super jelly of your rpg collection! They’re all so expensive now
MJR, great list. What you said about the PS2 generation taking risks is correct. I think the gen after expanded this also (PS3/X360) but it's somewhat plateaued with PS4 onward.
Couldn't agree more. Ps2 is the pinnacle of innovation.
I agree, the PS3 did innovate as well. Ps4/5 era, didnt impress me much
My first console was an N64 but it wasn't until the PS2 that I could completely understand video games.
The Suffering and Painkiller are two of my PS2 faves!
The ps2 is my all time favorite console. I’ve got a similar sized collection myself. My all time favorite ps2 game is Test Drive: Eve of Destruction. Such a fun racing game! I’d consider it a hidden gem for sure
Test Drive Unlimited is also a nice game.
@@axogreen876 I ♥️ Vita!
Great selection of games you picked out there. So many racers to choose from, my favourite being Outrun Coast 2 Coast with those glorious colours and classic arcade gameplay. For FPS games have you tried Darkwatch? I picked it up recently and was very impressed. Thanks for your videos.
FFX is my favourite of the series! Great characters, story and gameplay.
Yea I could never understand the hate it got/gets
I'm 38 and my first game console was the nintendo family computer that's the NES for you in the US, but the PS2 is my favorite console ever! This video brings back great memories! Thanks Jason.
This was an excellent look at a wonderful generation of gaming - so many great titles!
I love the variety but moreover love how many times you mentioned playing many of them with Paul 🤟
PS2 had the best selection of high quality creative games. I don't think it will ever be matched. Anyone is pretty much set for life if they have a PlayStation 2 and most of or all the games for it.
The PS2 is my favorite console ever! Insane collection :)
I just got a ps2 recently (it’s actually my first Sony console I’ve ever owned) and I can’t wait to check out these cool games you’ve mentioned
The best console of all time imo.
THIS 👆
Yes💯
100% agreed
Sucks that silent hill 3 is so expensive. I remember seeing it all around my local blockbuster when I was a kid. That series was popular when I was a kid, I figured it would be common. I'd really like to play it :/
FFX is my favorite as time has passed, I started with 7, loved 8, was not a fan of 9 but X brought me all the way back!
My hidden gems (unreleased in the U.S.):
Buccaneer
Crusty Demons
Polaroid Pete
Taxi Rider (Untenshu wa Kimi da)
*Flight combat sims:* Aces of War / Energy Airforce / Energy Airforce: aimStrike! / Iron Aces 2: Birds of Prey / Iron Eagle Max
Onimusha Dawn of Dreams is one of the best rpg ever and easily best Onimusha game yet has never been release outside PS2 wow
Yes is very good, but even Onimusha 3 is a great game
@@mandibiedermann2246 ikr but you can ONLY PLAY DOD on PS2 the trilogy is on steam i think and a remaster was release for ps4
From Software's Armored Core series has 7 entries on the PS2, and many of these are still very affordable. I paid around $5 for most of these a few years ago, but did shell out around $50 to complete my AC PS2 collection with Armored Core: Ninebreaker.
You should check out echo night beyond. Underrated horror title published by Age Tech
He is showing the Game right at the start.
OMG Metal Arms: Glitch in the sytem!!! I have been trying to find the name of that game for over 10 years, MetalJesus a legend as always!!!!!!!!!
Die Hard: Vendetta is a hidden gem.
Great FPS, very funny too.
Very underrated game, played the hell out of that back in 2004 ? I think it was . A lot of fun !!
7:46 I absolutely love these 3 games, such sleepers!
Let’s appreciate how good looking and smooth the games were considering PS2 only had like a 300 MHz CPU and 32 MB Ram.
@zxbryc
I meant in comparison to today’s computers, obviously.
Can we take a moment to respect that my dude took out all of his Playstation games to talk about them? Massive effort - I can barely bend over to pick up the nachos on the floor from last night's gaming session
What I loved most about this gen was it was the last gen without dlc. I feel like dlc ruining gaming to a degree.
Does anybody else think Bruce Campbell would have made a great Sully for the Uncharted movie?
Playstation 2 killed the game in the game industry! I still have mine and still play it💋❤❤
Such A great system! SSX 3 snowboarding & SSX tricky was the best times ever!
Ps2 is hands down the best way to experience those gta games especially vice city and San Andreas, every port has seriously sucked.
Plus you get the full soundtrack
King's Field 4 is one of the best gaming experiences i've ever had in my life. The atmosphere was unique to me.
Same here, awesome game.
Also known as King’s Field: The Ancient City, the spiritual predecessor to the Dark Souls series. From From!
I love the NTSC PS2 spine... PAL games' spine are just white with the game title on them
This channel is nostalgic for me. Last video i watched was 5 or 6 years ago
I would of been 12 when I last watched your content im now 17 close to 18. Wow. I need to watch what I missed
