I have been camping out of the back of the truck since the 80’s. I camp when I go fishing. I have a topper with a bed rug inside my Tacoma with a six foot bed. Set up is simple, roll out the sleeping pad and bag and you are done. I live in Wyoming and sometimes a tent isn’t the best idea. The beautiful thing about living in the west is there is dispersed camping everywhere. I love camping next to a river, that is my happy place.
I used a truck tent for a while - light weight, somewhat hassle free setup and lots of room while camping. They are a good option especially if you plan on staying put for a few days, taking them down and back up gets old fast! I have since just migrated to a nice ground tent from Gazelle. See you around! Great video too btw.
I have a Ford Ranger and the exact same tent. I love it because it all fits neatly under my tonneau cover. I built a bed platform and a same wardrobe. I love that it is so quick to set up and take down. I was just in Southern Utah dodging thunderstorms. If I need to move, I drop the tent, fold the sides into the truckbed and pull the tonneau cover over it and take off. This way I can keep the bed platform and wardrobe in the truck all camping season. I'm ready to go at a moments notice. Love it.
I'm not sure how this channel tends to cover items just as I'm thinking about buying them. Thanks for the review. Chloe. And thank you for the excellent channel.
I’m on my 3rd taco with a snug top and will never have a truck without a topper. I can pull over anywhere and crawl in the back to sleep. I’ve slept in raging PNW storms, blizzards no problem. And have a front to back prinsu rack for most of my gear. The dawgs love it.
I have this exact tent, and its been great. I love the way you can set it up to be a super comfortable bedroom. We added the SUV tent to the equation as an annex as well. For comfort, it is 2nd to none. Its roomie, its relatively easy to set it all up, and it just looks cool too. Weve gotten a lot of compliments on our camp set-up. If youre gonna set up camp and stay in one spot for a few days, or if youre overlanding solo its not much of a hassle. But if youre overlanding with people that have RTTs, it can be anxiety inducing trying to break camp fast enough to not feel like youre the hold up. A couple tips on set-up to make it fit a little easier and give you a better fit. One, make sure the tailgate portion is on correctly before pulling the tent onto the bed. If you can, move the orange tie down straps about 2' to the side wall of the bed (close to that tie down you showed off), not at the tailgate. It helps with the overall positioning of the tent. The 2 black tie downs at the front work best if the one that goes back at an angle goes over top of the one that goes straight down. I dont know why it matrers, but it does. My tent is not an exact fit either, as it is made for a 6' tacoma bed and my Colorado long bed is 6'2". So i tend to settle for as close to a perfect set-up as i can get. That interior flap is not a 100% needed as long as the exterior one is put on right. We are likely switching to a RTT set-up for the faster set-up/takedown, but i will forever love this tent. And i highly recommend the suv/annex tent if you want a place to stand up to get changed, keep a toilet private or just have a space you can hang out in if the weather is crap.
The nice thing about camper shells is you can use the top with a rack to store even more equipment. Although for once in awhile the tents will do the trick. If it works for you that’s all that matters. Keep truckin Chloe! ❤
Love it! I’m also from SD, and my husband and I enjoy hitting up the roads along the 395 and exploring BLM. Will be following your adventures to explore some new spots.
I went to Monache Meadow last weekend. Nice thing about overland is less setup at night. Have FJ we just sleep inside. For Monache, you can drive to the Troy campground after work then drive the trail to Monache in the morning and sleep at the top or even drive back down the same day. Fun trail ! Not too challenging and pretty. Btw, my favorite part of your setup is the bottle opener…overlanding should be cheap.
Stumbled upon your video, I have a taco too and I have that exact bed tent, plus I have the extender that provides more space. I use my truck as a daily driver too, so this works perfectly
Thanks for the video & your perspective. Most of what you shared looms good. I am more of a wait & see and let the bugs get worked out kind of guy. Will pay attention to see what or when to upgrade.
I have this one as well.. the thing about it is that it's made for a fullsize pickup bed. That's why the sides sit way lower than they should. It does the thing though. I'll ditch it for an ikamper as soon as budget allows.
Great video! Can’t wait to visit more national parks with my minimal setup. Just bought a Fas-Top Traveller combo (tonneau cover and softopper) It is so easy and versatile for my daily driver. I can still use my truck to truck lol. I use the marbero power station and solar panel. I’m not able to go camping too much so did not need all the overland stuff I see on other Tacomas. I am working on a removable sleeping platform. I get made fun of sometimes because I have a sport 2WD but it gets me where I want. I love my truck. Keep up the great work!
IMHO, that is the perfect setup for camping "once in a while"! If you traveling for multiple weeks or if this was your home, something different may be in order. Definitely would be cool to have a comparison video with your rig and a dedicated overlander.
In 2022, I bought a Subaru Crosstrek and just upgraded to a 2024 Outback. Ive been looking for a reason to get out and do some car camping. As a fellow engineer, I share your passion for vehicle mods and cant wait to start upgrading mine! Keep up the great videos.
Thanks and nice to hear from another engineer! Congrats on your new Outback too--the size of those vehicles must be great for camping. Keep us updated on your adventures and mods!! 😊
@bryanmoser358 I love the Outback. I got the Touring XT, and it's super quick. I have a dog and she has the whole back seat to herself. I installed the OEM padded seat cover and it works great.
@@3Blades how big is your puppy? Mine is a 60lb pit mix. I'm thinking about that headroom for her when the seats are folded down and if it will be enough or not.
its a great truck bed tent, im 6ft. with a tacoma sr5. i sleep comfortably TIP: the orange cable gets hooked on the inside to those D Rings you installed, thus allowing the flaps to go inside the bed when you tighten them.
Not to be a downer but a gazelle tent works so much faster max 10 minutes to set up that’s with taking your time. Much more practical for affordable over landing. Have enjoyed your videos shout out to San Diego, live in PNW now but looks like I’ve seen some mission trails shots in the background on one of your videos absolutely one of my favorite hiking spots west Fortuna and Pyles peek my favorite areas.
One of those inflator/light/battery gizmos would be an awesome addition to your kit. I also have a Bluetooth speaker/fake led camp fire gizmo that is super cheesy yet amazing.
I have the same tent (No bed storage system). I'm about 6' and since the tent is secured over the open tailgate , me and my girlfriend had no problem sleeping between the wheel wells. I do like your bed storage system though 😎.
Crater Lake is an awesome park. I grew up in Honolulu and my mom grew up in Grants Pass (nearby) and so we’d visit Grandpa and go to Crater Lake. I saw snow in August there for first time as a little kid. Edited to correct for French auto fill.
Nice! Well done and explained. One suggestion I have is to have your first aid kit more accessible, on a molly panel behind a front seat. Overall, well planned.
I was going between attached to the truck camp build or standard tent on the ground. I ended up going tent on the ground. if I ever gotta go drive I can without taking Anything apart. I bought the famous 14k plus review 6 person sundome Coleman. We used it it rained even though weather app showed no rain. Tent held up pretty dang A+ not a single drip inside the tent. I highly recommend it. Other than the elk going on a hollering spree from 10pm -1am everything was fine. I legit was scared outa my mind .
I'm in the process with time to get billie bars and a rtt combo for a quick removal to keep the truck for truck things and easy/comfy camping trips. Low profile to help with wind resistance. Only reason I'm willing to spend the money is due to having back issues and a hip implant. If that wasn't the case a good ole ground tent would do. haha All being done on a first gen single cab 2.7 4x4 taco.
Nice job I love my Tacoma right now my friend and I we are working on a TRD trailer with a tent I live here in Bakersfield thank you for show in love for Bako once I finish it I will love for you to take it for a ride and give me your input much love and keep up the good work
Awesome vid! The “i don’t know how two adults would fit in here” had me cracking xD sorry! Jk no but very educational, i want to start camping in my tacoma but had zero clue on what I’m getting myself into!
Did you know that you can get a small mattress and lay it across the back seat .. I'm 6' 200 lbs and I fit .. although a bit scrunched. I like being in the vehicle if you can fit. I'm sleeping in the truck tomorrow night for one night just before I pick up my 4 Wheel Camper .. Swift model .. then I have a queen size bed! 🤠

if you shove the door way arch poles inside of the bed instead of outside makes zippering this tent up so much easier just a little hack i figured out tent is kinda poop but for basic camping its ok i just wanted more
Hi Chloe! I just wanted to ask what it is you do for work? Or I'd UA-cam your full time gig? Im currently trying to restore and put some love into my 1st gen (2003) tacoma. Thanks so much for all you do, it really helps!

@chloekuo, where do you strap the middle hooks? I have a similar tent (Napier) & wound up hooking on to the leaf springs. Napier’s website always show hooking to the bumper. Sounds fishy to me…
Random but how do you charge up your little generator/battery thing? I have the same one and used it once and have never figured out how to charge it back up
Q: how much weight do you think the tailgates of the 3rd gen Tacos can handle? Spread out and not localized, of course. I’m always worried after hearing some horror stories from 2nd gen owners.
I have a 2017 Tacoma 5ft bed. Do you happen to remember what size you ordered? I went to your link and it gave the 5ft bed model for almost $200, but then had a mid size option for like $89 and the dementia’s didn’t make any sense as it said 23 inches in length. I like the tent, just not sure what to order. If you can’t remember that’s totally ok. Any response would be appreciated very much.

My buddy Omar has the same tent setup, he's been very pleased with it!
I love how she keeps up grading her scold through time and she’s minimal 🤙
Wool blankets are clutch here in Canada, I take two for camping, one under my sleeping bag, and one over to keep the warmth if needed.
Your Tacoma is soo clean...❤
OMG!! Almost $7 for gas!!😮
"It gets the job done." You got it Chloe 👍. I use a ground tent ⛺. Packs down nice and small and it gets the job done 😁. ♥️🌮🐶🐾

The seat jackers make a world of a difference on long road trips.

WOW beautiful shot of Yosemite valley Chloe! I gotta get there one day soon 👍🏼
Let’s go camping with our pups and VLOG it! 😍💙🤘🏼🐶
YES!!!! Taco trucks and pups 🐶💙🌮
I just bought that tent for my 2023 Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss. Can't wait to use it in the Adirondacks

Great video Chloe- really enjoyed the gear review- looking for a budget truck tent for my Taco

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you.

Time for a Go Fast Camper! You would love it!
WOW didn’t know the bed was composite material. That seat mount with compressor ❤.
I was going between attached to the truck camp build or standard tent on the ground.
I ended up going tent on the ground.

Looks cold out there CK GBU And Family Always 🙏🙏❤ great video
How did you know I needed this video!
Hi Chloe! Great video! I like your camping set up. It definitely works for you. I’m going to look into the new d rings.
cool tent, turning the truck bed into a tent
Super nice set up work great and easy to put up and down God bless.
.saludos des de Arkansas
Great video! I hope we get to see some Yosemite footage.
I really enjoyed this video 🙌 It would be cool to see how an overland camping setup will compare to this

Hi! Chloe, taking that taco yoda, to a whole nother level, sweet
absolutely awesome, and a heart emoji for you, because I don't know where that button is
Try sleeping diagonally if you have the space. That's what I've found works best and I'm 5'9".
Great video. Thank you for all the information!!
Whoop Whoop!! Sweet setup!
Did you know that you can get a small mattress and lay it across the back seat .. I'm 6' 200 lbs and I fit .. although a bit scrunched. I like being in the vehicle if you can fit. I have almost the same setup when I go to the desert but I have a air mattress that fits the bed perfectly
Just bought myself a 2020 Trd off road , looking to slowly making some upgrades to go camping
I’d suggest anchoring that window breaker as loose stuff becomes projectiles in an accident.
look at the canvas cutter dominater 2.0 you put a sleeping bag in it. very comfy.
Nice work! Thanks for the video
Nice job and nice set up
Hey! You passed my hood! (Big Cuties cold storage structure)
You certainly have put a lot of time and effort into your truck.
I traded my 21 for a 23 TRD Off-Road, and now I am looking close at the 24 Trail Hunter. This would be a great setup for the Trail Hunter as it comes with pretty much everything else needed for “over landing”
What do you think of the 24 Tacoma line?
Trailhunter is supposed to be very difficult to buy for the foreseeable future.
@@induction7895 yea Trail Hunter and TRD PRO because of delayed delivery of the electric motors.
The turbo gens your making a mistake 2 turbos uses more and expensive gas and oil changes every 2,500 vs 5k or 7k or 10k
That Garmin would be great for up here in Northern BC. We have done it with offline google maps. Too bad my days of exploring the outdoors like that are over.
Hope you have some protection like a gun being out in the boonies 😮
Love your videos, thanks for the coupons !!!

I had this same exact tent for my f150, and it only lasted 4 trips before the wind ripped it.
I explored the option of a truck bed tent, but I live in the desert.
I get so much dust here in Nevada.
Most (almost all) my gear that go into my bed are in hard cases.
Even with a bed cover, dust seems to just get in.
Love these videos that show options. Thanks for always sharing these parts of our offroad lives 👍
The part that do not include insanely expensive gear and items.
Replace your tent light with a $30 HybridLight Puc Expandable Lantern. They put out 115 lm and work off solar; no batteries.
You could add “D” rings under your bed so you can have a dedicated place to tie down your tent or anything else you may need! 9:20
I have the same tent and also have a 2020 silver sky Tacoma. And in San Diego as well 😅
I like your truck, and I want to put mine like this, can you tell me what type of lift you used, size of tires and wheels, thanks.
I guess I'll be the only one towing a small rental camper.
I have a 200ah battery which recharges while my engine is running. I can power my 55l ARB fridge for days with this setup.
Have you camped near Texas? If so what are nice places you recommend? I really want to try camping next month
I knew I had seen your truck going through the 41 in Fresno.
I don't miss the gas price in Cali. =)
You can get led lights that plug into your jackery usb
The Deck system is nice, but i'm a DJ and loading and unloading with the extra height would be a bit hard
What was that gauge cluster deal on your passenger side?
28:15 ok you went over. I have an older version of the iOverlander.
Have upgraded your truck tent and if you did, do you like it better than the rightline.?
great video.
168k subs. Came along way already.
I have cons and pros about that tent (I own it) I wish it caben with a floor cover, wouldn’t recommend going camping in summer. Mosquitos or other insects will get inside the tent. I’d rate it a 7 from a 1-10.
@chloekuo, where do you strap the middle hooks? I have a similar tent (Napier) & wound up hooking on to the leaf springs. Napier’s website always show hooking to the bumper. Sounds fishy to me…
Damn u have a lot stuff girl lol but that’s cool very organized
Random but how do you charge up your little generator/battery thing? I have the same one and used it once and have never figured out how to charge it back up

good lord those gas prices are not scenic
Yeah, made it an expensive trip 😂
Where did you get that front bumper part that replaces the black plastic part??
Gazelle tent. Nuff said.
i like your wrist watch with compass. what brand ?
You can sleep diagonally in a 5 foot bed
