    Of course these brushes are exactly the same as the outrageously expensive ones, thanks for putting this video up as it's been 'sticking in my craw' for a while now 😒 I have mentioned it on a few social media sites but some people believe BS, why do these craft sellers think we crafters have unlimited budgets? Thank goodness for people in the real world like you Mary xx

      Thank you so much for the comment, truly! I think sometimes we get caught up in the hype because someone we admire uses certain products but we still owe it to ourselves to search around. At least I know I owe it to my wallet! lol Thank you for your support! :)

      @@marypolancodesigns I'm addicted to the unethical AliExpress counterfeiters who override the extortionate prices & sky high shipping of the slap-dash U.S. companies. I ordered some dies ($5 max w/FREE SHIPPING) 2 weeks ago that TH introduced 1 week ago, that probably won't be available from U.S. resellers for months (or years, or EVER). These Amazon prices are comparable to AEs w/free shipping w/Prime.

      @@marypolancodesignsou are correct, but I don't admire anyone or their techniques so much that I would drop an extra $50 unnecessarily. I keep scanning You Tube for time and money saving tips ALL THE TIME. All I can say is good for you, this has been my method of blending for about 6 months now, and I love it. LoveArts I think the person who is about if line is the person making up facts like saying that stamps and dies are all made in the same factory when that is in fact a lie..and furthermore the industry you love will no longer exist if people like you have there way. Ali express steals artist designs and then illegally resells them to folks like you who justify theft..I myself as an artist have been a victim of them stealing my artwork and it blows my mind to see people okay with supporting this type of behavior.. I get all my products made in the U.S and so therefore could never sell it for the price these thieves buy it for..

      Firstly I don't understand the first few lines of your post, it doesn't make sense. Second, these brushes are made in china, even the ones being sold for 50 plus dollars by picket fence, this means they are marking them up over 45 dollars a set, that is just pure pure greed, i could understand them asking 10 or 15 dollars profit but come on now , as i said pure greed. Thirdly you are accusing me of theft? who the hell do you think you are? you don't know me, you don't know what i buy or where from, yet you have the audacity to single me out of this whole thread and accuse me of theft and tell me 'people like me are ruining the industry'? Can you back up that statement? No you cannot. Finally I don't give a rats behind where you buy your products, it's none of my business or concern.

    When I first saw that these brushes were selling for over $50 I was aghast! I have them for makeup and they are the same!!! They claim the cheap ones aren’t as good but they seem to work exactly the same as the expansive ones when I see them work in videos. Now I hadn’t thought to use them for ink but I bought all small oval ones, 10 of them, for less than half of what I’d pay for the expensive ones. So I’ll have one brush for each ROYGBIV plus brown, pink, grey/black and blue-greens. They also clean up very easily. I just wipe mine on a dry cloth then wipe them across a damp chamois. They dry in less than a minute. They shouldn’t degrade as fast as the blending foams do when using a stencil too! I don’t use the tiny ones I bought for makeup so I think they will come down to my craft room. I won’t dedicate a colour but just clean them well after every use. I’m sure your review will help a lot of people save $$. I do have a tip to get a smoother blend. After picking up the ink, I swirl the brush on a plastic surface. This seems to spread the ink more evenly over the bristles and with the surface being non-porous, I can go back to the ink on the plastic to pick up more so it’s not wasted. Eventually I go back to the ink pad but it works really well.

    I bought mine from Ali just like Carolyn and some others. Bought just a few "large" ones (5x3 cm) and found out that I can actually be good at blending, wow! I find it immensely helpful that you don't get a "first touch" blotch if you don't force it. Something which always happened with my foam tools, whichever one.
    Went back immediately to buy some more plus 3 of a smaller size for difficult areas in stenciling. The price for the large brush had gone up since my first order - supply and demand, I guess. And there's a shipping fee for shipping to Germany per lot at the store I bought from, but it decreases per lot as you buy more. So for 10 large brushes and 3 smaller ones I paid 16 something Euros incl. shipping. And I'm not burdened with all kinds of sizes I may never use. Such a happy crafter!
    These brushes clean really easily. They have to, I guess, as they are meant to be used on your sensitive skin.
    I read somewhere that it's more important to keep to one type of ink with one brush rather than with a color family. I'll only be using archival, distress oxide, and Versamagic. I'm doing dark/light on color for each type of ink right now. Nearly. My first order was for 5 brushes.
    And re. the piracy: I agree, I have seen a lot of stuff up there that is a copy in stamps, and I even bought one or two before realizing. Those were quite a bit smaller than the original, thus the details got smushed, and their stickiness is different (too strong to get them off the carrier sheet without warping that sheet really badly and later losing the stickiness never to be regained by cleaning).
    So what I'm saying is: I'd feel guilty buying some products there, but by no way all of them. These brushes show how a product is produced at a low price with no fancy packaging. OK, so the people selling these to us on our regional markets pay customs, whereas I don't ever go above the limit. But the markup simply isn't justified. It's not as if the expensive brushes had been manufactured in France or in California, right?

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  5 років тому

      Thank you so much for this comment, Stefanie! I really do appreciate it. I think something that is not talked about in the crafting world is that it is not all Ali Express that is bad, or Wish App, it is those companies within them that are selling stolen materials that need to be brought down. I have read that Ali Express is trying to stop them but I do not have all the details. I just think we need to be 100% informed before we denounce a source. Amazon sells dies for $2 on their site that I'm sure came from China, and we are not denouncing them as an industry. Again, we just need to be careful what we say before knowing all the details. At least that's how I feel about it. So to that note, I do appreciate you making the distinction here.

    Great review! I bought a set of similar make-up brushes from Amazon and a couple from the craft site (spent more on those than the whole set from Amazon), absolutely the SAME brushes! I put them side by side and you can't tell them apart. One video said the craft site brushes were "better" only because the bristles didn't fall out, but I have not had that problem with the Amazon set. Buyer informed before you buy.

      @lisastewart6373 5 років тому +2

      Yep. I bought a set of 2 of the brand name ones, and then found a set of 10 on Amazon for less than the set of 2. I did a side by side test of them, and found no difference in the look, feel or ink application. However, I did note that the brand name one seemed to hold on to residual ink more, making it more difficult to clean. I will continue to test, because maybe with extended use, the brand name ones will hold up better (I doubt it, because they look identical). I used Distress Inks (on Neenah 80#), which for me, are more difficult to get good blends with the usual blending tools, but with these brushes, the blend was very smooth, with less time and effort.

    • @Amywazwaz06
      @Amywazwaz06 5 років тому +2

      Lisa Stewart I think with these types of blending tools. The more ink gets on them the better they work. So that is why I decided to buy one for each color family. You can find the no name ones in AliExpress for about $1.39 each medium sized oval brush. That size seems to be great to me. Not too big not too small. I have a full set of ten different sizes but don’t find I need the tiny sized ones or really big ones for very much.

    I went on aliexpress and paid .98 cents for the medium sized brush. The 1 inch head, which doesn't sound big but they are and I absolutely love them. Their so velvety and give me great buildup. I have purchased more, 1 for each color of the rainbow. I got them especially for my regular distress so now I dont get harsh marks. I could use them with my oxides but honestly their so smooth they'll blend well with any tool. So I give it a thumbs up for me

    I got my set from amazon for $11.
    I find what is great about these is that you don’t even have to be in Bristol paper to get amazing results.
    Be careful with the Amount of pressure you put on these. My friend has had two handles break.
    I find the clean great to switch colors. But I went on AliExpress and bought 13 generic ones ( no name) from there so I have one for each color family. ($1.40 for each brush, the medium small egg sized one)
    I find the little ones are not so great. They have much more limited uses in my opinion. But I have found some neat things they can do. I still have my 10 pc set. And will sue it for some things. But love having one for each color family. I took a stick paper and inked each color on a oval sticker and put it on the top of the brush on the plastic. Then put glossy accents over the sticker to keep it on there longer and not rub away. Plus took s strip of the same sticker paper and inked it wrapped it around the handle of each brush. So the color is noted on top of it and the handle.

    I love comparison videos. I like to know where to spend my craft dollars, & when the big ticket items are worth the splurge. I’m not sure how you can recommend this product over the other if you don’t have both. The big difference in these is that the cheaper ones are made with hair fibers & will fray over time. The Picket Fence brushes are made with plastic fibers, less likely to fray.

    • @marypolancodesigns

      I'm so sorry, I didnt mean to give off the impression that I recommended them over the other ones, because you're right, that's not a fair comparison without both. In the video I meant more that these brushes ARE awesome and work really well and would be worth it to purchase. After the filming I did try both at a friends house and I would say now, that theres isnt enough of a difference in the result, although they may ne made with different materials. I think there is a lot of hype around new things and sometimes we need the reminder to go along with it that it's not all necessary so we don't feel like we are missing out on anything. I bought a ‘starter’ set of the craft brushes when they were deeply discounted for Black Friday. I love them!
    I was just about to order more so I could dedicate one set to oxides and one set to everything else when I saw your video. Woot! More brushes for less? Sign me up!
    As of Jan 27, 2019 the brushes in the first link are back in stock in Amazon.

      Thank you so much for all of this information! It is SO helpful for everyone. YES I bought all 3 that are listed in the video because I wanted more and because I wanted to make sure they were all the same quality and they are! YAY!

    I appreciate you taking the time and expense to do this video for us, Mary. I have read through all the comments, and see lots of crafters are shopping wisely and giving second thoughts to having to own every new product that gets overly promoted. I am wondering if anyone has tried these brushes to do stenciling? Do the superfine bristles hold up against the sometimes sharp edges of a stencil?

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  5 років тому

      Linda, thank you so much for the comment. Excellent question. I have a video coming to you this Saturday stenciling with them, so you can see first hand how they hold up. But in short....YES they are A-mazing with stencils. They do not get underneath and the coverage is magical. I wish I can give you a sneak peak but you'll see it in action soon. :)

    Love your videos, found you watching Koren (love her too). These brushes are great. I find them much easier than other blending tools as I have a heavy hand. I use a baby wipe to clean them then rub on a cloth to dry, clean like a dream.

    Thanks so much for your input. When I saw the price for these new brushes was $50, I was like wow that’s ridiculous!! But then I remembered that I had seen makeup brushes that were exactly the same at TJ Maxx for about $20 and wondered if they would work just as well! So thank you for your video! I’m making a trip to TJ tmrw, lol!!

      Mary Polanco I bought them and I love them!! They blend my distress inks like a dream and it’s also faster. I didn’t even have to use bristol smooth paper, just my regular Neenah solar white!! ❤️❤️

    Hello Mary. I bought a set for $12 on Amazon. LOVE them. I agree . I bet they work the same as the $50 dollar set too. Glad you agree. I too am not willing to find out for sure. I would rather buy more stamps! 😊 Thanks for the review.😉

    Mary, I don't know if you noticed, as you didn't mention it, but when you were blending with the Distress Oxide on bristol, the foam tool left the characteristic dark mark at the edge of the panel, while the brush didn't. The same with the regular Distress ink on Neenah. I am still on the fence as to these brushes, whether I will get them or not. I do have foam blending tools, which do work for me, but sometimes struggle to get a light coverage/dusting of color, especially on regular (not bristol or watercolor) paper/cardstock. I have a couple of different makeup brushes--I think they're really meant for powder???--but they just do not work for ink blending. Nice & soft, but way too much "give" for laying down any ink they might pick up. I just may pick up a set of these brushes, just for getting lighter coverage, especially as I can tend to be kind of heavy-handed with inking--at least if I don't work at being light-handed! LOL Thank you so much for this honest review. Take care, and have a wonderful day! :)

      Wow great point! Thanks for noticing and commenting about that! So I don't ever want to make it sound like people HAVE to have the next latest and greatest, it really is what works for YOU and you alone. I just really find that the price on these, AND the fact that you don't need too many (you can clean them really well with a microfiber cloth or baby wipe) was just too good to pass up for me. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and share your opinion. I truly appreciate it! :)

      I just ordered some similar brushes from Amazon because I tend to be heavy handed and would like to ink blend over stencils. I always manage to ruin the stencil if using a foam blending tool.

    I've been eyeing these Brushes on Amazon, wondering if their as good as the Craft ones that I've seen some crafters use recently. I don't have the $ to buy the Craft ones. I'm fairly New to inking, so I haven't invested in the foam ones yet. Thanks to your Review, I'm gonna get these makeup brushes instead. I'm so Glad I saw ur video on my UA-cam Page.😉🙂

    I bought a pack of 3 at Michaels and I really love them. I haven't checked Amazon, but I think I might because I need different sizes for different things. Like those small thin long brushes to ink on flower petals. I think it's pansies, but can't recall. Anyway, thanks for making this.

    Thanks so much for the video Mary. I'd been meaning to check out the "life changing" brushes and watching your review prompted me to do it. I'm from Australia, and the price of the Picket Fence brushes over here at craftonline.com.au is ... wait for it ... AU$90.99! And they were sold out, so people are buying them at that price. I bought a set on Amazon Australia for AU$16.59 + $7.99 Delivery. A huge difference. I think what Picket Fence has done is unconscionable, and I'm sure I won't be buying any of their products as a result. Unfortunately, as long as crafters keep supporting this behaviour - and I'm talking about over-priced stamps and dies as well from the big, well-known (and mostly US) companies - they'll continue to take advantage of their customers. I am constantly "shopping around" and usually find similar stamp and die sets at a cheaper price from lesser known companies. Thanks again for your review. xo

      Gail thank you so much for sharing this with us. I am so excited that you found a set for such a great deal! I don't think they thought this one all the way through because they seem to be the exact same prices and there are so many different "brands" out there. It just doesn't seem right to draw in customers in that way. But we as the consumer have a right not to buy into it and with this product we didn't so YAY! I do try and support where I can but even other items seem to be getting more expensive these days as well. Share any deals you find as i will!

    • @StampGaGa
      @StampGaGa 5 років тому

      I agree Mary - it's not right. If I had the time I would set up an online forum where everyone could share deals they've found, and projects made with "less expensive" supplies. I think there would be a groundswell of support for such a forum. It would support the companies who deserve our custom and increase competition within the industry. :)

    YESSS! Thank you Mary. Need to buy something to save money. Aw perfect! I have been on the lookout for a while and could not justify the price for the use they'd get here (only building my inks up yet). But with carpal tunnel syndrome, I can justify that along with the other reasons that they seem so marvellous. Thanks for the review. Much appreciated.
