My Amazon brushes came today! I ran into my craft room, pulled out some Bristol smooth and my dye inks, which I always had a hard time blending smoothly. These brushes worked like a dream! My blending was smooth at last. I love them!! Thank you for sharing this! :)

Thanks for the review. I haven’t jumped on the Picket Fence bandwagon because of the price- I’m in Hong Kong so adding shipping would make them even pricier. I got a cheap set at my local Miniso and love them. I also love the blending now- I didn’t get good results with the various sponges and daubers I tried so for me my cheapies are life changing too. For cleaning I just got a silicone brush cleaner but I found that washing by hand was fine too. I’m not a fan of companies taking what were everyday normal things - like shammies and make up brushes and charging higher prices just because crafters now find these things useful.

I think for the most part companies like picket fence are trying to be helpful by bringing a product such as this to our attention. I believe they are trying to make money for providing that service to us. I have a habit of looking for the best in everyone. It helps me stay positive. I am also not rich, so I need to make smarter choices to be able to have nice things for my hobby. I’m all for good business and supporting small business. But I also need to support my family while doing so. Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your opinion with me ♥️♥️♥️

I really enjoy watching you and Mary and very fresh and positive. I also enjoy the Picket Fence stamps and dies and also find them very inspirational. As for the "Life Changing" brushes, I have several reasons why I believe that claims made about these brushes in videos by other influencers are inaccurate. In order to avoid speculation, I reached out to Picket Fence Studio to ask for clarification/confirmation on the claims that were being made and have had no response. I believe the brushes being sold by Picket Fence are generic molded brushes being sourced and resold and were not something Picket Fence specifically designed for ink blending. How people spend their money is their choice, but when influencers make claims that are not substantiated and the company selling the product for a significant price difference than similar/exact products and does not/will not make a clarification that would explain this, I think it should be questioned. I said on Mary's video and I will say it again buyers be alert, we spend thousands of dollars on craft supplies and remember, influencers are business and like businesses, they get paid to sell product and therefore are responsible to make sure the claims they are making are true so you can make an informed honest decision on where and on what you spend your money.

    • @KorenWiskman
      @KorenWiskman  5 років тому +2

I’m shocked that they didn’t respond to you. They must be getting a lot of questions about them. Kudos to you for reaching out to them. I didn’t reach out. It’s clear that they are not designed specifically for ink blending. I don’t even know who has said that. I use affiliate links on ALL of my videos but that doesn’t change my opinion of things. I don’t make enough money from this business to sustain even myself, let alone a family. I would hate to be in a position like that. I’m lucky to be able to do what feels right to me. I keep my dental license up to date, just in case my husbands business ever falls flat 😊 Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your opinion with us. I truly appreciate everyone’s honest opinions ♥️

Of course they didn’t respond because they get the brushes from the same people amazon does and they mark it up I have both and they are exactly the same. People be smart. You don’t need the picket fence ones also don’t believe a word of this video that she thinks the amazon was were nothing special and like the picket fence. What a scam

Thanks for this great comparison. Here is a third option. Aliexpress will allow you to choose individual brush sizes rather than buying a full set. I just couldn’t justify the cost of the Picket Fence brushes which are $47 Australian. They work really well with distress oxides; I haven’t tried them with other inks yet but I like the quality and the price was less than $10.

Hi, Koren. I am ink-blending-challenged, so I purchased a set of the knock-off makeup brushes from Amazon ($7.99), and they work miraculously for me. I tend to place my index finger atop the head of the brush, and I find that way I have much better control. Yours truly has actually made some fantastic blends of sunrises / sunsets, clouds, water, background color, stencil designs, etc. I have even used the itty bitty brushes in my set to actually color in leaves, birds, and larger designs that I have stamped. I like usiing Gina K. Designs's Amalgam Ink (black) for most of my stamping, so that I can use any coloring medium I'd like. Those tiny brushes give some great effects! I'm not throwing out my Tim Holtz ink blenders because they may still come in handy, but I have not had good luck with them...for some reason. But these brushes are wonderful! Have a good day, and thanks for the comparison. I'm a big fan of Mary Palanco's videos, too!

I agree, I find it difficult to use the brushes with the oxides, and use my foam blending tool instead. I think it is the formulation of the ink. I bought 2 sets of the cheap brushes so far and have them labeled for different colors; like blues, teals, greens. My stencil blending is a lot cleaner since I did that. Thanks for the review!

I have 6 sets of the Amazon VIVII brushes, I love them! I have one for each color family but I do find myself cleaning them anyway. I really like using them with the Distress Oxides, especially on Bristol smooth paper. I am probably in the minority here, but after watching your video, decided to buy the Picket Fence brushes (found on Amazon for $39.99). There were two reasons why I chose them. 1) Ink-blending ability with dye inks 2) Less hand/wrist fatigue. I was also looking at the Ranger blending tools, but decided against those because of being a novice. I have used simple round sponges in the past, along with ink daubers, and always found the round sponges to have less chance of accidental circles, but my hand would fatigue easily. Thanks for your unbiased review.

I had a single makeup brush from my daughter like the Amazon one and tried it out. I liked it but I just had to try the Picket Fence brushes, I had a discount and I gave into the hype. It's my downfall. I think they are very similar but I love how you showed the dye inks blending better, I'll have to try that. I've only tried oxides so far. Lol, got some cheap ones from local Chinese shop and they work amazingly well with Memento dye based inks, which is what I have. As someone who makes Polymer stamps at home (I do video tutorials on that among other things) I can tell you that the stamp cleaner is most likely a degreasant (eg dish soap type base) maybe with some alcohol and perhaps some glycerine added. When the stamps are made the excess gel can be washed away with soapy water; alcohol will make them less sticky and glycerine may loosen oil based inks; Acetone will dissolve polymer - think gel nails - it is similar stuff.

It baffles me why Picket Fences would want blending brushes that look EXACTLY like makeup brushes. I still think that they buy better makeup brushes from China and then market them as the Life Changing Blending Brushes. More power to them I guess. Thanks for the side by side comparison Koren! Most users hold the brushes by the head, not the handle, so that may reduce hand fatigue. Thanks for this review! I was wondering if there was a difference since there was such a huge difference in the price. Bought mine from AliExpress over a year ago ( about $4.00 but with beautiful metallic handles with an all-over `ombre effect ) for the sole purpose of better blending a new type of foundation I fell in love with. (Yes... I fell in love with a bottle of makeup! Sad, isn't it?) Anyway, the brush worked so well it prompted me to try it with my inks since I LOVE everything about the whole blending process, except for how it makes my hand feel afterward! I found that I actually like the way these brushes handle the blend a bit better, plus my hand is not quite as fatigued after using them compared to my other brushes. I have since bought more sets and find that I use these bushes almost exclusively in my crafting. (-as well as for that foundation I told you about!) Love your videos AND your sense of humor - which, I realize, as you have pointed out in some of your comments, is not everyone's cup of tea - but I'm definitely a fan! Thanks again!

Wow! Thank you for sharing your opinion. It’s so interesting because I have some PF brushes + a different AZ set. I find much less hand fatigue since I don’t have to press hard at all. I do think the PF brushes give a better blend, but for those who can’t afford $$ brushes, the AZ will work fine.
I find I have good luck with both die & oxide inks, although it’s hard to get an intense coloring with these brushes. I can’t compare with Nuvo brushes, I don’t have them. I did find a much smoother blend with these rather than Clarity brushes. That’s interesting too.

I’ve been wondering if upgrading to the Picket Fence ones would be even better since I have found mine to be so helpful. Now I know I’ll stick with what I have and spend the money I saved on something else. Thanks again!!

Wally World for the win! I’m so glad you like them. That is what is most important. Thank you so much for watching ♥️

Great to hear that I am not missing much - I got the amazon ones as well... a bit more than $8 in Europe, plus I actually went for ones that were in the middle of the price bracket - there were some super cheap ones and some more expensive ones - but I am loving mine! The small ones are also cool for fixing some boo boos here and there - I recently had to ink blend around an already adhered image and with a standard blending foam I would have never been able to do it! Plus, they’re nice for making “blushed cheeks” on bigger images ;-)

I have used them for makeup and I tried different ones too. I didn’t see much of a difference. Now I know it is the same for stamps:) time to clean those old makeup brush and pack them with my crafts.

Hahaha, I have definitely grabbed makeup brushes to use on my crafts in the past. A girl's gotta do, what a girls gotta do! Maybe a little Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide could double as blush, lol. Thank you so much for watching.

I have bought a few different brands of these on amazon, the puffiness depends on the brand.. some are more or less dense so it’s a matter of shopping around the site. I also found that a lot of stores are carrying these brushes in the makeup aisle now!! I found two dog sizes at my $ general store by the company broadway.. the are more like the picket fence brushes density wise.. and instant instant gratification !! Haha 2 and 3$ each depending on size and u can take them home right away. I love them for both my oxides and inks, my hands always ache when I use the ranger ink brush... awesome review.. can’t believe you bought the picket fence brushes 😳

Girl.... I'm gonna do a lot of silly things to satisfy my curiosity. Buying brushes is probably the least of it, lol. I'll have to check Dollar General. I need to go there anyway for face wash : )

Boooo! What is the fun of having a UA-cam channel if you can't give your opinion. Isn't that what we are all here to do? I can't have an opinion if I've never experienced it, right? So, therefore the brushes must be bought, to get the experience needed to have an opinion.

Hey I agree with u, .. I’m slowly getting him to realize I need more than just a card kit every month. People will get bored .. hopefully he will realize that he needs to support my endeavors..

Thanks for your comparison! I have used the Amazon ones and love them. Now I know I'm not really missing anything for another $40 or more.

I wanted a side by side comparison and I'm the only one silly enough to buy both : ) Thanks for watching Dawn.

Enjoyed your video. I bought a two pack of PF brushes, but I found a large set of generic brushes at Stamp Expo for $20. I love them, so haven’t even tried PF yet...
